Quick Review: L’Oreal HIP Violet Volt Chrome Eyeliner

L’Oreal HiP Violet Volt Chrome Eyeliner ($9.79 for 0.04 oz.) is a dark violet purple, almost a jewel-tone purple, with a slight metallic sheen. I am so silly–I thought this was the missing shade from my original Chrome Eyeliner review, but no… I actually reviewed this already. Better photos and larger swatch of it, though!

These Chrome Eyeliners are ultra soft when you touch them, and the feel reminds me of an even softer version of Urban Decay’s 24/7 Liners, which I absolutely adore. These are so soft that I’d actually say it’s one of the minor issues with working with these – if you apply these with too much pressure (as is easy to do when swatching, ha!), the product may break a bit. I’m not sure if L’Oreal has a good sharpener for these, but they worked well with my Urban Decay one (which, coincidentally, works best on my 24/7 Liners, too).

The color pigmentation is amazing — very true to color and bright and bold. There’s no sheer color here. They apply easily because they’re so soft and smooth, and they just glide onto the lash line with no fuss. I will say the first time I applied these on my lower lash line and lower waterline, my eyes teared up and watered a fair amount. The liner stayed pretty well in place on the lower lash line and faded after an hour so of watery eyes on the waterline (to be expected).

Welcome to Swatch-all-idays! To start 2011 off on the right foot (or post, as it may be!), Temptalia is going through a backlog of products we have photographed, swatched, and often tested but in a slightly different manner. Quick reviews may be partially incomplete, such as a blush may only be swatched on the arm rather than shown on the face. It is our hope that what we are able to provide is still helpful!

There so many good cheap alternatives to UD 24/7 Liners and MUFE Aqua Eyes coming out.

Avon Made one which I have to check the name of later but I got it in Khaki.
Prestige Cosmetics Waterproof Eyeliner and Total Intensity™ Eyeliner Long Lasting Intense Color are excat dupes and I love them.
Even GOSH’s slightly cheaper Velvet Touch liners are excellent and come in a wide shade range then the ones I listed above.

These are AMAZING! Pigmentation, texture, lasting power! I bought one in every color. And though they’re on the more expensive side for a drugstore brand, they’re totally worth it. The ONE downside I found with these is they’re hard to sharpen because the black casing around the product is sort of smooth and “slippery”, meaning it’s difficult to get the blade of my sharpener to grab onto it. Maybe L’Oreal makes a sharpener especially for these but I’ve never seen one.

Hi Annie,

As stated in the post, these are *quick reviews* and are by no means a change in format. I do not, however, show myself wearing eyeliner – as it would be just too much stress on the sensitive eye area to be conducive to do doing those kinds of swatches, so this post is actually no different than previous reviews…

Is this similar to UD’s 27/7 liner in BINGE? I know this is supposed to be a violet color but it looks kinda blue and the color I see is similar to BINGE. My computer screen may be the problem?

looks gorgeous!
but i’m confused — you pointed out application problems (so soft it’s easy to break, an issue you noted) but gave the product 5/5 on ease of use… which is a high rating you rarely hand out! at least from what i’ve noticed reading tons of your reviews.
but then, 8/10 on value even though it’s under $10.

?

Value is not about how cheap it is – it is whether the price and the amount you get is in line with similar brands — I am not comparing L’Oreal HIP to Chanel.

It glides on very, very easily and delivers tons of pigmentation when you do it – that’s why it’s easy to use. Being easy to break is more of a product or packaging concern.

I just got this eyeliner from a little christmas exchange and i got this and i was so excited i put on my waterline and tightline and my vision went complety foggy,it was scary, i asked my dad about it and he said i was alleric to it and my eyes were devloping this fog, so now i have to throw it away 🙁

I have stopped using my UD 24/7 liners in favor of these! The black is the blackest black eyeliner I have ever used and is the only eyeliner that stays on my water line.

OMG I’m glad you have a review for this exact product!

I read your other review about the Chrome eyeliners in general, and I was so attracted to this color.

Now I really want to get it after seeing your swatches. 😀

Thanks ^^
