LORAC PRO Metal Palette
LORAC PRO Metal Palette

LORAC PRO Metal Palette ($28.00 for 0.144 oz.) includes eight eyeshadows with all but one being very shimmery (Onyx is more of a satin). If you’re a big fan of shimmer, frost, or metallic finishes, you may enjoy this. The quality is there, and none of the shades were difficult to use, even on bare skin. They’re soft, pigmented, blendable, and long-wearing; they are less powdery compared to some of LORAC’s eyeshadows but seem in line with their more shimmery/metallic shades (like Unzipped and Unzipped Gold). The only downside is that all of the shades are dupable, so you may have several similar shades already in your stash.

For pricing, the LORAC PRO palette retails for $42 and contains 0.32 oz. worth of eyeshadow (but also comes with a travel-sized eye primer, so it’s not as easily compared). Ignoring the primer, the eyeshadows cost $131.25/oz. in the full PRO palette, and this palette is $194.44/oz. The eyeshadows appear to be the same physical size as the ones in the full 16-shade PRO Palettes, even though these are 0.018 oz. each and the PRO palette lists each shade as 0.02 oz.

Quartz is a brightened, white gold with warm, buttery yellow undertones and a metallic sheen. The texture was soft, dense, and buttery, but it’s a shade that could easily thicken on the lid so use less than you think you need, as it is very pigmented and stretches quite a bit. The color wore well for eight and a half hours on me before creasing. Too Faced Snowflakes (LE, $16.00) is darker. MAC Nylon (P, $16.00) is less shimmery, darker. LORAC Opal (LE, ) is less shimmery. Rose Gold is a medium, muted copper with hints of rose and brown and a metallic sheen. It had great color payoff with a really soft, smooth consistency that was easily blended on the skin. The eyeshadow lasted for almost nine hours before fading. MAC Tan (P, $21.00) is more shimmery, cooler. bareMinerals Tan Lines (LE, ) is darker. LORAC Unbelievable (P, ) is less shimmery, darker. LORAC Unattainable (P, ) is less shimmery, darker. Sleek MakeUP Scheherazade’s Tale (LE, $9.99) is more shimmery, lighter. Make Up For Ever I538 Pearly Gray Beige (P, $21.00) is less shimmery. It had intense pigmentation that applied beautifully to the skin with really smooth, even coverage that wore well for eight and a half hours before creasing slightly. Sleek MakeUP Lust in LA (LE, $9.99) is more shimmery. Urban Decay Deeper (LE, $18.00) is darker, warmer. MAC Silver Dawn (P, $20.00) is cooler. bareMinerals Embellish (LE, ) is less shimmery, darker. Onyx is a medium-dark black with neutral undertones and a matte finish paired with subtle, silver sparkle. The sparkle doesn’t bind well with the underlying color, so it looks and functions primarily as a matte black eyeshadow. It had good pigmentation with a soft, silky texture that was a little powdery but blended well on the skin. It wore well for eight hours on me. Kat Von D Oddfellow (LE, ) is less shimmery. LORAC Indigo (LE, ) is less shimmery. LORAC Caviar (LE, ) is less shimmery. Kat Von D Black Star (LE, ) is less shimmery, darker. ColourPop Raven (LE, $5.00) is darker. Gilded is a light-medium, yellow gold with a metallic sheen. It had good color coverage with a soft, blendable consistency that was a smidgen powdery. The eyeshadow was easy to work with and blended nicely on the skin, and the color started to show signs of creasing after eight and a half hours of wear. Inglot #403 (P, $6.00) is less shimmery, brighter. Chanel Blazing Gold (LE, $29.50) is less shimmery, darker. bareMinerals Remix (LE, ) is less shimmery, darker. Amber is a medium, copper with warm, orange undertones and a metallic sheen. It was intensely pigmented with a soft, creamy texture that adhered well to the skin and blended out with ease. Wow, all of these colors are gorgeous, especially Clover and Cobalt! I do wish they had added in a matte brown so this palette is more one-and-done but still, it’s a nice palette. Glad to hear the formula isn’t as powdery as other Lorac shadows.

Celia Avatar

I’ve been really enjoying mine so far. Glad your experience with it was positive too! The colors wear and blend so well on bare lids. And Quartz really does STRETCH! You need only the tiniest little bit to use as an inner corner highlight. Lovely shade. Graphite and Clove work together beautifully. It’s a dream for travel.

Celia Avatar

When it first came, I did two quick looks with just my fingers. Cobalt+Quartz and then Clove+Graphite+a little Gilded. Even just hastily patted on, everything went on perfectly and blended wonderfully. So easy to use! And Cobalt has mixed really nicely with all my other Cobalts so far. While Onyx’s glitter didn’t stick around for me either, it was kind of nice since the mostly-matte look you get from it balances out the palette a little bit for ease of use. I was surprised how easy it was to create a full look from such a small, shimmery palette. Zero effort necessary. So far I think it’s actually my favorite texture Lorac has ever come out with including Pro 1 and 2. Definitely less powdery.

Quality seems very nice, as I’ve come to expect from LORAC. Amber and Rose Gold are stunners. Part of me likes the idea of the two being separated into two palettes based on finish and part of me just wishes that all the shadows were just in the same palette. Marketing. 🙂

I actually don’t like frost or shimmery finishes, but I can work with mettalic. Besides, I love LORAC’s Pro palettes (the ones NOT made in China), so I’ve ordered this from Ulta. I can’t wait to get the Matte palette that, I think, is a companion to this one.

Swathi Narumanchi Avatar

Hi Christine,

Is the packaging sturdy enough for travel or popping into a handbag ?

Thanks for the review, they do look very gorgeous ! 🙂

Nancy T Avatar

Well I’ll be, I think I really like this one! Not sure how many shades in ere crossover to Visart Nude Paris palette, because I don’t parlais vous francais?!? So I cannot put Visart’s shadow names with their proper palette, LoL!

Nicole Avatar

Yeah, I haven’t got to,play with mine yet. So happy it looks like a good pick. Mine was missing the primer though and one of the shadows was slightly dinged. Not too bad . That goes back to Ulta’ s poor shipping. But, I guess we had no choice on this one sadly. Nice eye look Christine.:)

Lotus Avatar

I’m glad this turned out great! I own way too many from Lorac, singles and palettes,, Paula Dorf, Cargo, Ardency Inn, Marc Jacobs Beauty, Guerlain, MAC, NARS, UD, Chanel, Dior, Aucoin, Longo, Stila, Mally, Hard Candy, Lancome, Estée Lauder, and onward to ever possibly need these dupes! So I was good and said no. I’ll purchase highly unique things that I don’t have and could use or I try to use what I have now… Find 10, find 10 more.. Thanks, Christine! 😛 (You broke my hoarding!) 😀

Genevieve Avatar

This is the best autumn palette that I have seen in a long while. Thank goodness it has excellent quality and I love the range of autumnal colours. I am seriously tempted with this one – every colour (apart from the black matte) is fabulous and I would use it in my winter looks. Paired with some marsala coloured lipstick – it would be fabulous.
Your eye look is stunning Christine and these colours really suit you too. This palette is on my wish list.

Bonnie Avatar

Omg YAY!!! I ordered this from Ulta a few days ago on a whim before your review (a rare thing for me) and I literally was holding my breath until I saw your score for it! Soooo happy and relieved that I’ll be getting a quality palette in the mail! This is my first Lorac palette, though I’ve been tempted by the other pro palettes, I never bought. So I’m excited! Thanks Christine!

Jules Avatar

The colors are definitely pretty & good for adding in with a Naked Basics. I wish there was a purple or burgundy instead of the gilded or amber…bump one of them. 🙂

Karen Avatar

Love the gorgeous colors and finish, but I need lighter colors for my deep set, hooded eyes. Any suggestions for a cool tone palette with more neutral shades? I save the color for the lips. Christine, based upon your reviews Colour Pop and Nars are fast becoming my BFFs.

LaDoshis Avatar

I would REALLY LOVE a small palette with clover, graphite, rose gold and quartz. I’m going to try to search my stash for dupes…

Sarina Avatar

This looks like a really nice palette. I love the look of the green. How does Lorac compare to mac eyeshadows? I’ve really been stuck on Mac and also Bobbi Brown for everyday wear for a while now. I’m intrigued to see if these live up to the likes of Mac. I keep seeing that the texture is buttery would you say that it is comparable to the Marc Jacobs eye textures? I love those and I kind of suspect that perhaps Lorac may combine my love of Mac and the texture of MJ … here’s hoping. The price point is great too!
