Look - Red Lips with Chanel Dragon

I did this look last night before we went out for my (early) birthday dinner at my favorite restaurant! I knew I wanted to take Chanel’s Dragon out for a night on the town, so it was all about the lips for this look πŸ˜‰

I hope your Saturday has been wonderful so far! I’m feeling a bit under the weather, so I’ve been laying down for most of mine, but I figured I should at least get up and post this for you all!

You will need the following…

  • Eyes: Soft Ochre paint pot (neutral beige base), Retrospeck eyeshadow (dirty champagne), Wedge eyeshadow (cool-toned medium brown), Swiss Chocolate eyeshadow (reddish brown), Blanc Type eyeshadow (whitish neutral), Feline kohl power (black liner), Plushlash mascara (black)
  • Cheeks: Enough Said blush (bronzy)
  • Lips: Chanel Dragon Rouge Allure Laque (red)
  • Brushes: 266 (firm, angled brush), 226 (fluffy crease brush), 219 (pointed crease brush), 214 (smudge brush), 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 129 (dense blush brush)
  • Substitutes: Feline = Smolder; Enough Said = bronzer

Directions: Define brows using a coordinating powder shadow applied with the 266 brush. Apply Soft Ochre paint pot all over the lid as the base with the 249. With the 239, apply Retrospeck eyeshadow on the lower lid. Darken crease with Wedge eyeshadow using the 226, then deepen with Swiss Chocolate eyeshadow with the 219. Sweep Blanc Type eyeshadow underneath the brow bone to highlight. Finish with Fline kohl power on lower lash line, and apply Plushlash mascara on lashes. Sweep apples of cheeks with Enough Said blush using the 129. Apply Chanel Rouge Allure laquie to lips for color and shine.

After six hours of wear, including a delicious dinner and lots of water-drinking, the color HOLDS on like nobody’s business! The biggest difference is just the glossiness and some of the shimmer have gone away, but the color itself is still very vibrant, so wearable, and STILL no bleeding.

WOW! I love that lipstick color. And I am trying to learn how to create a soft eye like that so this post is just in time for me. Monday I am going to try out a dark lip and a light eye so thanks!

Thanks, Margarett! πŸ™‚ I just went nuts and bought a palette of MAC neutrals with lots of mattes – works really well for those softer eyes!

Absolutely gorgeous, I love this look! Perfect for the holidays coming up in a couple months as well! The lip color is to die for. I remember seeing your previous post about the lip look and thought it was really nice, but put together with the eye its stunning! Must get my hands on this lippie! Whats the base like though? It looks like a true red, so no yellow?

Thanks, Wilcoa!

If I had to say anything about the undertone/base, I’d say it leans warmer, maybe yellow/orange, but it’s SO hard to tell because it shows up quite neutral. I definitely think it’s not blue-based, though. It wears like a true red on me!

Christine, I have to admit, although a bit too bright for my personal taste (im more fond of wine-red lipsticks) this Chanel Dragon is really, really pretty !!! i guess its on my wish-list now !!!

That look is beautiful. I was on the fence with having so many reds but, Im not anymore. Off to nordstrom.com to order it in Dragon. Thank you for posting the whole look. Its terrific on you!

This is beautiful! Although when is this coming out? If it already has my Chanel counter is lame and doesnt have it… πŸ™ The woman there didnt even know what the Jade nailpolish was.

Wow, you look gorgeous! At first, I thought that Dragon would be too bright, but now I can see that its actually pretty wearable. The soft eye looks great with the lips, and it seems that the Lustre Retrospeck doesnt look too bad. Did you experience any fallout?

Happy Birthday, Christine, and I hope you feel better soon!

Christine, I was just curious as to how you take such amazing pictures of your makeup.
I was hoping you could maybe do a post on the type of lighting and camera you use, everything like that.
Whenever I try to take quality pictures of my makeup they just come out dark and not as vibrant as my makeup is in the mirror.
And I love you in red lips.

I just use whatever lighting is around – seriously, nothing special! πŸ™‚ I use a Nikon D90 DSLR, which pretty much makes taking photos a breeze.

I know, it’s INCREDIBLE. I kept asking my boyfriend, “Is it still on??” and he got annoyed. He’s like, “YES, it’s still there!”

Happy birthday, dear Christine!
Okay, now I need Retrospeck–and, if I ever become rich, Dragon…
It seems like Retrospeck is a bit similar to a color I adore, Femme Fi. Am I crazy?? ha ha ha

Thanks, Helena! πŸ˜‰ It has more of a glitter finish (since it’s lustre) and a darker bronze/gold tinge to it. Kind of similar, but not quite!

you pull off red lips really really well!! i wish i could do the same πŸ™ but they always tend to bleed on me even if i wore lip liner beneath. sigh.

I wish I could wear red lips like you….you look stunning! One of my first thoughts where….has she lost some weight? You look thinner than normal in these photos…… Not that I think you need to!

Had another dream about this lipstick last night. This time I was looking at it at a grocery store. lol And it came with a nail polish and more colors. lol

I can’t wait to get phoenix in the mail! I have too many reds and am trying to build my pink collection.

I told my mum to look at the first post on Chanel Dragon and the moment she laid eyes on the colour, her eyes became like saucers! It’s a show – stoppah!

Happy Birthday!!

WOW i really love this look because of the neutral eye and the bold, red lips. I’ve always wanted to try red lips but not sure if it’s the thing for me. I’m still amazed at how perfect you make red lipstick go on! The lines around your mouth are so crisp! Whats your secret??

Love this color on you! Since this is long wear do you think its kiss proof? πŸ˜‰ I am taking my bf out for his bday dinner and want to wear this, but dont want it smudging on him or all over my glass. What do you think?

You look incredibly beautiful!! I totally love the look!! Question: What was your foundation routine? What foundation did you use for this look and Im curious about the shade?? Thanks so much!!

Christine, this red lip looks absolutely fantastic on you! I’ve been looking for a good red but so far have been stumped–the color ends up looking pinkish/cherry instead of a true red. I’m hoping that my search ends here! πŸ™‚ Did you really not use any sort of lipliner or a lip primer to keep it from bleeding and just put it straight onto your lips???
