Laura Mercier Standing Ovation Cheek Palette Review & Swatches
Standing Ovation
($55.00 for 0.63 oz.) is a new, limited edition trio of blushes for the holiday season. It included three shades that are from the permanent range (it looks like only the brand carries all shades). Two of the three blushes were more pigmented, which was out of sync with the formula’s description of building up from a “sheer, hint of color,” so those who prefer pigmentation may find this is still a worthwhile contender for consideration.

Peach
Peach is a medium, pinky-coral base with strong, peachy-gold shimmer that gave it a luminous finish. It had semi-opaque, buildable coverage, which was more pigmented than marketed. The texture was soft, more pliable without being powdery, so it was easy to pick up with a brush and was blendable on bare skin. It lasted well for eight hours before fading visibly.

Formula Overview
$30.00/0.2 oz. - $150.00 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to have "sheer, buildable" coverage that "blends seamlessly with skin" that lasts for "10 hours." I purchased two shades--one shimmer, one matte--to see how they performed before considering purchasing more of the range. The texture of both shades was rather thin with a firmer consistency that wasn't as blendable as I would have expected, though it had the sheer coverage that was described. It was buildable from sheer to mostly opaque coverage, though the shimmer shade I tried was easier to build up. They lasted around eight hours on me, which was solid wear, but it was shy of the 10-hour claim.

Rose
Rose is a muted, dusty pink with moderate, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had medium, buildable color coverage and was the closest to how the formula was marketed (“sheer hint” and buildable). I noticed that it was a bit more firmly-pressed and felt thinner as a result the first two uses, but the third use was much softer and easier to apply evenly. It wore well for eight hours before fading noticeably.

Grapefruit
Grapefruit is a rich, reddish-coral with subtle, warm undertones and warmer, fine, golden micro-shimmer that gave it more of a satiny sheen when applied and buffed out on my skin. The texture was slightly firmer and thinner initially, but it softened up a bit and was easier to pick up on a brush, though a little went a very long way! It was intensely pigmented and was best applied with a fluffier brush and light hand to gently diffuse the color onto cheeks.
The “issue” is the formula is supposed to be buildable from a “diffused, sheer hint of color,” and it’s not at all sheer or buildable–you have to be very careful just to get more medium coverage out of it. For as bright and as pigmented as it was, it was fairly blendable, though. It stayed on nicely for nine hours before fading a bit.

Love Peach! I will probably pick it up separately ?
Peach looks like a better version of Nars orgasm blush almost.
Looks like the blushes have improved in texture (despite overshooting their described opacity) since I gave the two existing shades broken hearts of disapproval!
These are all so pretty but I don’t think I am buying blush so long as I am wearing a mask when I go out.
Wow! Grapefruit has hella pigmentation! Good thing I always set my foundation before going in with my powder cheek products, so I could conceivably use this shade without issue. I’ll probably wait for this trio to go on sale. All 3 shades would see plenty of usage from me.
This looks very nice, though I shudder to think what the price in $NZD will be 😐
I love the grosgrain ribbon imprint and the fact that there are 3 different finishes across the 3 different shades – I imagine it would layer well 🙂
The price will be the same in Australia CeeBee – absolutely over the top horrendous!
Yep, you know it.
I checked and the full size Blush Infusions (which are 6g – though Mecca doesn’t bother to state this, annoyingly) are $48AUD and $53NZD respectively. I think in the US, they are $30, so I’d expect this to be around the $80 – $90 mark, if we ever get it… but maybe I’ll be pleasantly surprised?!?!? 😉
Can confirm Grapefruit is definitely also available as a single, at least in Australasia 🙂
thank you for the review christine! I was interested in this palette (and am glad it fared better than the previous laura mercier face palette) but none of the swatches are jumping out to me. Probably going to pass on this one
Peach is everything! Gorgeous! And the other two are fine as well.
These are lovely shades, but I really only like the Peach shade for myself.
I like these colors very much but am concerned I may not be able to use a light enough hand in application.
Many of my blushes are nearing past prime.
FYI, I bought Grapefruit as a solo a year or so ago.
Hi
I just want to know is the palette blush and the original blush line are the same formula.
I believe so!
Thank you! I will order one.
