Lancome The New Black Eyeshadow

Lancome The New Black Eyeshadow ($18.00 for 0.042 oz.) is described as a “metallic shimmered black.” It’s part of Lancome’s permanent range of Color Design Eyeshadows (which is their individual range). Color Design Eyeshadows have varying finishes, but all of them are supposed to deliver “long-lasting, pigment-packed color [that] stays true for daylong wear.”

It’s a rich, dark black with blue undertones and silver micro-glitter. I did a quick wash of this color on the lid (without primer), and it wore for eight hours before subtly creasing. Over a primer, it wears for twelve hours without any issues.  The texture is smooth, and the color payoff is really true-to-pan–it’s a dark black, and it doesn’t drag or go on patchily, as some blacks do. The glitter is embedded in the powder itself well, but there are the occasional pieces that fall out.

This shade reminded me of Chanel Mirifique, though The New Black has a stronger blue-base. I imagine it’s also similar to MAC Black Tied but more pigmented.

What’s your favorite shimmery black eyeshadow?

Wow! This is everything I wanted Black Tied to be. So pretty. But Christine, do you ever sleep?? Isn’t it 3:30 on the West Coast? Or do you set it on auto post? Either way, you have some true dedication to us, so thanks!

This looks like an nice eyeshadow. I would however love if there was a really really matte black eyeshadow. Anyone that I have tried always ends up looking more like dark grey. It a nice colour though! Would do a great smokey eye.

Wow, this is pretty! I’ve been wanting Mirifique but I might get this since it’s cheaper. I’ll have to go play with the new Chanel shadows to see if I like the texture better I guess. Great review!

They’re also slightly thinner so they look shorter in the palettes – I fit them into my MAC palettes but I just jam them in. It works totally fine… Just don’t expect to get them back out again! Haha 🙂

It looks lovely, and if it was made by a different company I’d be all over it. However, Lancome still test on animals so I won’t buy their products.

Lara Avatar

I completly agree. Thank you for pointing this out, because I didn’t realise that Lancome tested on animals, but I looked up peta and they still do, and so I will be sticking to my mac because they do not test on animals.

Laura Avatar

There are many brands who don’t test on animals and yet still manage to produce quality products. I just cant believe some companies still think it’s acceptable! There are no excuses really.

Agreed. We are in the year 2011, not the 1900’s, I’m sure there is other ways to test prducts rather than subjecting innocent animals to the cruel testing. I love animals way too much to buy anything that is totally cruel towards them.
I will never buy lancome, lóreal or shiesiedo. I will be buying Mac and will never stop! I think Im now even more of a Mac-o-holic than before lol.
Cheers, Lara

how would you say it compares with UD’s oil slick??

i love the pigmentation, but the swatch seems similar to oil slick. is the only difference the glitter vs. shimmer [this vs oil slick, respectively]?

Ooooh, pretty! I think I have a couple of GWP Lancome quads with this colour. I really need to remember to “shop” my own stash now and then! 🙂
