Kat Von D Metal Crush Eyeshadows Reviews, Photos, Swatches (Part 1)
Kat Von D Electric Warrior Metal Crush Eyeshadow
FORMULA SUMMARY | Kat Von D Metal Crush Eyeshadow ($21.00 for 0.10 oz.) is supposed to have “maximum pigment and extreme wear” with a “creamy and lustrous” finish available in eleven shades (though only ten are online at the moment). The texture of the majority of the shades is very soft, dense, thick, and creamy; they feel more like a hybrid of cream and powder than your typical powder. All ten shades were quite pigmented when pressed into the skin with a flat or firm brush (MAC 242), and while almost all of the shades applied well with your regular eyeshadow brush (like MAC’s 239), one shade didn’t work as well (Black No. 1) as it was more sparkly and didn’t bind together as well. The formula was long-wearing on me with wear ranging from eight to nine hours. I found the texture comparable to Make Up For Ever Diamond/Metallic finish eyeshadows, though these are larger (0.10 oz. vs. 0.08 oz.)
Kat Von D Electric Warrior Metal Crush Eyeshadow ($21.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “pearlescent citron green.” It’s a bold, brightened chartreuse green with warm, yellow undertones and a frosted, slightly metallic, sheen. The texture was soft, smooth, creamy, and blendable on the skin while having great adhesion on bare lids with wear that came in at eight and a half hours. NARS Rated R #1 (P, $24.00) is less shimmery, darker. CoverGirl Lime Light (310) (LE, $4.99) is lighter. MAC Chartreuse Bouquet (LE, $21.00) is less shimmery, darker. Kat Von D Birdcage (LE, ) is less shimmery, darker, more muted. NARS Tropical Princess #1 (LE, $24.00) is lighter. ColourPop Sour (P, $5.00) is less shimmery, lighter. ColourPop Mermaid Kiss (P, $5.00) is less shimmery, darker, cooler. MAC Green Clean #2 (LE, ) is less shimmery, lighter, more muted. Make Up For Ever ME338 Acidic Green (P, $21.00) is brighter, cooler. Make Up For Ever I340 Lime Green (P, $21.00) is less shimmery, lighter, warmer. Giorgio Armani #17 (P, $32.00) is darker, cooler. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Kat Von D Paranoid Metal Crush Eyeshadow ($21.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “pearlescent cobalt.” It’s a brightened, medium blue with a frosted sheen. It was intensely pigmented with a creamy, smooth consistency that blended beautifully on the skin without sheering out. This shade wore well for eight and a half hours before creasing slightly. MAC Freshwater (P, $16.00) is less shimmery, darker, more muted. MAC Blue Calm (P, $16.00) is darker. Urban Decay Peace (P, $18.00) is lighter. Sephora Collection Surfin’ USA (14) (P, $13.00) is warmer. Sleek MakeUP Sunset #6 (P, $9.99) is less shimmery, lighter. CoverGirl Sapphire Flare (315) (LE, $4.99) is darker. Make Up For Ever ME216 Electric Blue (P, $21.00) is darker, more muted. Make Up For Ever ME232 Turquoise Blue (P, $21.00) is less shimmery, warmer. Make Up For Ever S214 Ultramarine Blue (P, $21.00) is less shimmery, darker. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Kat Von D Iggy Metal Crush Eyeshadow ($21.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “pearlescent mermaid green.” It’s a lightly brightened, medium-dark emerald green with cool undertones and a pearly sheen. The texture was slightly firmer, though smooth, but it seemed denser overall. It applied better with a firmer, synthetic brush than my go-to eyeshadow brush, though the difference was slight (you can definitely use a domed eyeshadow brush with it). This shade wore well for nine and a half hours and didn’t stain the lid (which I was surprised to find!). Milani Green Safari (P, $6.49) is darker, warmer. Sephora Collection Picnic in the Park (07) (P, $13.00) is warmer. NARS Misfit #2 (P, $24.00) is less shimmery, darker. Make Up For Ever #52 (LE, $23.00) is more shimmery. Sugarpill Midori (P, $12.00) is less shimmery, darker, less pigmented, warmer. Make Up For Ever ME304 Emerald (P, $21.00) is less shimmery, darker, warmer. Buxom Pre-nup (P, $12.00) is lighter, more muted, cooler. Disney by Sephora Fins (LE, ) is warmer. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Kat Von D Black No. 1 Metal Crush Eyeshadow ($21.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as an “iridescent gunmetal.” It’s a muted, medium-dark charcoal gray with cool undertones and larger silver sparkle. This shade was a little “chunky” in a way, as the sparkle gave it a noticeable layer of texture and seemed prone to crumbling during application, rather than binding together–even with used with a flat and firm brush. With a tacky base, I think it would work better, or possibly with a damp brush (not sure if these can be used wet, though). MAC Knight Divine (P, $16.00) is darker. NARS Bad Behaviour (LE, $24.00) is less shimmery. bareMinerals Abracadabra (LE, ) is less shimmery, lighter. MAC Bao Bao’s Jewels #5 (LE, ) is less shimmery. Marc Jacobs Beauty The Enigma #2 (P, ) is less shimmery. theBalm Surf’s Up (LE, $16.00) is less shimmery. Stila Black Diamond (P, ) is less shimmery, darker. NARS Jardin Perdu (Left) (LE, $24.00) is lighter. MAC Say It Isn’t So (LE, $21.00) is more shimmery, lighter. NYX Smoke & Mirrors (P, $6.00) is darker. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Kat Von D Static Age Metal Crush Eyeshadow ($21.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “metallic silver.” It’s a bright, light silver with a metallic sheen. It had good color payoff with a soft, creamy, and blendable texture that wore for eight and a half hours on me. Le Metier de Beaute Platinum (P, $30.00) is less shimmery. Urban Decay Crystal (LE, $18.00) is less shimmery. MAC Guise (LE, $21.00) is darker. Marc Jacobs Beauty The Starlet #6 (P, ) is lighter. Sleek MakeUP Pretty in Paris (LE, $9.99) is lighter, brighter. MAC A Party of Pastels #1 (P, $21.00) is lighter. Dior Trompe L’Oeil (011) (LE, $31.00) is lighter, warmer. MAC A Waft of Grey #2 (P, $21.00) is lighter. Make Up For Ever ME202 Iceberg Blue (P, $21.00) is lighter. MAC Just Breathe #1 (LE, $21.00) is darker, more muted. Kat Von D Moonshine (LE, ) is warmer. Urban Decay Shellshock (LE, $18.00) is darker. Milani Bella Silver (20) (P, $4.49) is less shimmery, darker. Giorgio Armani Silver Chafer (35) (LE, $33.00) is darker. Too Faced Jailbird (LE, $16.00) is less shimmery, darker. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

These are beautiful! How easily do you think they could be depotted? I hate eyeshadow singles – I always forget to reach for them. I would be much more inclined to buy if I could stick them in a z-palette!
I’m really not sure! I haven’t depotted in years.
These definitely give Make Up For Ever a run for their money because the size it close to theirs, but I also prefer to slip single into a palettes.
I even did that for all my Sugarpill eyeshadows converted them to a single Z palette.
Electric Warrior looks like a must have! I’m really digging that color
It’s a bright one!
Wow, now those are some impressive ratings (on all but one)! And I love the parrot inspired eye look that you created with them. The shades are gorgeous, though sadly too bright for me.
There are some neutrals in the line-up!
I let out an audible GASP at the sight of Electric Warrior. WOW! Iggy isn’t as vibrant as I would have expected, but Static Age is the silver shadow I’ve been dreaming of since I was a little girl.
Do you think you’ll snag Static Age?
Yes, I can’t wait!
She’s killing me with these Iggy Pop and Misfits product names… and you recommended all the ones that I wanted to try :/
Awwww!
I’m definitely picking me up some of these. I’m a little disappointed with Black No. 1 as it was the one I wanted most, but I’m really happy to see how well these shadows perform in general. Thanks for the review as always, Christine! x
No problem, Kimmy!
I love how the only one I was very excited to see gets the worst rating! I know how to pick them!
lol!
I don’t wear any type of metallic or shimmery shadows, but these look absolutely wonderful. Even the one that was kind of a dud seems fairly nice. I was worried about these because I remember last time KVD released a new permanent product in this large of a color selection, the studded kiss lipsticks, it was a less than stellar experience. I’m sure metallic shadow lovers will be rejoicing!
It’s workable – it’s almost a different texture compared to the other shades in a way!
Oh, wow. Iggy looks way more interesting to me than I thought it would from the pan alone.
Iggy is my fave! But I am a sucker for emerald greens!
I knew this would be an amazing eye look as soon as I saw the colors!
Thank you, Tammy!
Oh wow, Electric Warrior is lovely! I usually hate bright eye shadows but I feel VERY tempted. I’m curious about the other shades though, as they’re a bit more neutral. Need to get your handy reviews before making my order :D.
Soon! 🙂
Really beautiful! Glad most of them performed exceptionally! 🙂
Me toooo!
Love the mermaid look you did! So glad these got great reviews. I like Electric Warrior (possible buy), too bad about Black No 1, but it’s dupe-able
Thanks so much, Katherine!
Ooooh I actually like Electric Warrior more than Iggy. So thankful for these swatches! <3
No problem, Indya!
Very beautiful shades. But I am so thrilled to see some really wonderful dupes for Iggy, Paranoid and Electric Warrior amongst MUFE and ColourPop!
Phew ;D
Oh, these colors are so exciting. They’re so beautiful. I love the artistry in using these shadows on yourself!
The colors are fun! I’m so happy they turned out to perform well!
Ooooooooo! Gimme. That’s all I have to say, lol.
Haha! ;D
Gosh, these are amazing!
They are!
oohh too bad Black No 1 got a weak review.
Definitely adding Iggy to my Sephora order tomorrow though!
I loved Iggy!
Such pretty colours, and Temptalia recommended!!! Oh this is going to be tough to resist! What to do?
These are $25 in Canada 🙁
Definitely could have made them smaller + cheaper. I always wonder what is the motivation of the larger pan – is it a technological/manufacturing thing? Is it aesthetic? Is it paying more?
I agree! Cut the size and price in half and they would all be mine!!! 😉
Wow, amazing eye look! Gorgeous! Electric Warrior is… *unable to finish typing comment because now on Sephora site*
Haha! 😉
Thank you, Sheb!
I think these are gorgeous, but I have dupes for ones I really like.
Phew! Money saved!
The look you put together is GORGEOUS!
Thanks, Rachel!
These shadows are making me want to move out of my comfort zone and try something I’ve never tried before, which is a very high compliment in my book! I’m glad these are doing well because they swatched beautifully in store. Can’t wait to see the rest.
Wow! That is quite the feat 🙂
I’m not a huge fan of KVD products, but these look lovely! Especially Iggy and Static Age; I might have to purchase these during the 4x Point event at Sephora. 🙂
They really are quite nice!
Paranoid and Iggy are gorgeous. I already own NARS Misift, though, so I’m wondering if that’s enough emerald green in my life…
No such thing as enough emerald green, LOL. 😉
A glorious range of colours that are rating well – thank goodness for that! Love the blue, emerald green and silver grey. Once again – your eye look is stunning Christine.
Thank you as always, Genevieve!
You’re rainbow eye looks are my FAVORITE OF ALL TIME!! This one is reminiscent of the two colourpop ones you did earlier this year. I LOOOOVE *heart eyes* it makes me compulsively buy all the shadows you use to create them! 😀
Aww, thanks a lot Bonnie!
It’s so nice to see Kat Von D do something well again.
haha! Very true.
Yyyyyes! I am so glad to see these ratings! Lately I’ve been holding my breath each time I click a MAC review, lol, there are just so many misses these days…
I was so, so happy they worked out!
These are really gorgeous!!
Agreed!
Thanks for the in-depth review, as always! The way you describe the texture reminds me of the Makeup Geek foiled shadows (I’ve never tried the MUFE shadows you mentioned). How would you say they compare to MUG?
Between these, the Colour Pop super shock shadows and several others I’ve seen on the market, it really seems like creamy-powdery hybrid shadows are the new big thing!
They are somewhat similar, but they aren’t as firm as MUG – they are softer and easier to use to me!
Gorgeous eye look, Iggy is to die for! I would love if she put all/some of these in a palette like Urban Decay did with their since-discontinued deluxe formula years back. This collection reminds me of those but look so much better! 🙂
Thank you, Emilie!
That would be really cool!
I have died and gone to eye shadow heaven.
KVD Metal Crush Eye shadows are- just beautiful.
Haha!
If I mixed Thrash and Freak from the UD electric palette, would it be close to Electric Warrior?
I think it’ll end up a bit darker/more muted! Thrash is closer in color, so maybe mixing with a shimmery gold and adding a touch of Freak to darken it?
