Kat Von D Adora Painted Love Lipstick Review, Photos, Swatches

Kat von D Adora Lipstick

Go Metallic Red with Kat Von D

Kat Von D Adora Painted Love Lipstick ($18.00 for 0.11 oz.) is new-for-fall, and it looks like it’s already sold out online. I just received this from Sephora as part of their holiday offerings, so I was quite surprised to find it missing in action online! It looks like this may be a shade you’ll have to pick up from your local Sephora–if they still have it. It is a stunning shade of bright metallic red. It is an absolutely stunning shade of holiday red; it’s got a metallic-chrome shine that makes the color glow under light.

The shade itself is rich and opaque, needing just one layer for full color coverage. On me, it seems barely blue-based, but generally, I think this would be a very flattering shade on both cooler and warmer skin tones. When I wore it, I got five hours of wear, and it didn’t dry out my lips. Since it has some matte in its finish, it can accentuate dryness if you have cracked or peeling lips.

I’m between nw15 and nw20, and it pulls slightly orange on me for some reason. With a cool red lipliner underneath, it’s less orange.

I want to try MUFE #21, as that is a shimmery red. Christine, do you happen to have that one in your stash? I would love to see how they compare 😉

I bought one when I saw it in my local Sephora back in October. I wish I’d bought two as the store is sold out – I love wearing this shade and your pics capture the color better than any other on-line swatches I’ve seen! I hope the KVD line brings this in as permanent.

This was actually a special when Sephora was doing their special red lipstick promotion. The webpage for it doesn’t even exist anymore and I was notified by Sephora over a month ago that it was discontinued and they will not stock it again.

Are there any notable dupes?

This lipstick hasn’t been available for a while now. I learned the hard way of not being sure so I put off buying it until it was too late.

I ordered it from Sephora quite a while ago. At first it was okay, then after about only 2 days it seemed to be too bright for me, so I returned it, 🙁

This lipstick has been sold out online and at my local stores since October. I wanted it, but found out about it too late, and I haven’t been able to track one down. It’s a shame that they released it in such limited quanties. It’s such a pretty color, perfect for Christmas. 🙁

Same here! I haven’t been able to find this lipstick in stores or online for months! I knew it was limited edition so I figured I was just too late but hopefully it’ll be rereleased for the holidays…

OMG I’ve been trying to get my hands on this since it came out (and sold out right away in Montreal as they only got a few tubes of it in their Adora display when the coll. came out).

I follow Kat Von D on twitter and she announced that Sephora will make the Adora collection permanent since it was so popular so that might be why they sent it to you in their holiday package. I am just waiting for it to become available again online and in stores with all the other lipstick shades she has! It’s stunning and a MUST have for me!!!

Sephora hurry up and restock!!!! As of this week my Sephora store here hasn’t received new stocks of it. So I’m still waiting. I need this in my stocking this year!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this shade and get mad compliments whenever I wear it. I swatched it in store one day but they were sold out. I looked online at Sephora and it said discontinued. The following week or so, I popped in to admire the tester and found it! I was delighted and have been loving it ever since. I highly recommend it, though its a tad drying.

Gorgeous! Looks a lot like the original Gash l/s by UD (the one Gwen Stefani used to wear) until they dc’d it. Since the version of Gash is nothing like the original I’m excited to try this for a suitable dupe!

I don’t know if anyone will read to the bottom to see this comment…..

I was in one of the Sephora stores near me yesterday, and they still had 6 of these in stock. I was right, it is very orange on me (NW15, very pigmented lips), so I passed on it. I do love the metallic shine to it, so I was bummed about the orange-iness.

But if someone is really looking for this, it might be worth it to call around, especially to stores that might get a little less traffic.

I managed to buy one in a Massachusetts Sephora store on 4 December so there are a few around still…it wasn’t on display but the sales assistant found it in the drawer below the Kat Von D stand.
