Illamasqua Hype Eyeshadow

Illamasqua Hype Eyeshadow ($20.00 for 0.07 oz.) is described as a “matte bright yellow.” This is a vibrant, bright sunshine yellow–it has a lot of warmth. There’s a slightly goldenrod tone to it. It’s not as warm or as dark as MAC Goldenrod, but it is nearly identical to Inglot #323.  Other shades of yellow I think of are either more neutral or cool-toned or else have a lot of shimmer.

I’m determined to do a look featuring several of the new Illamasqua shades, because they’re beginning to be used together.  I’ve just been testing one or two at a time, because it’s faster, but they make my heart flutter when I see them next to each other.  Hype has good color payoff and feels very soft and smooth–but it has a slightly drier texture compared to the other shades recently launched.  Not so dry that it becomes difficult to use, because it still has a lot of color richness and blends well on the lid, but the texture is a little different from the others.  It wore just over seven hours with slight fading around the edges but no creasing.  I think it just barely stained my lids when worn without a base.

Oh wow! I don’t really wear matte eyeshadows, save neutral mattes, nor do I wear yellows – but I’m still so impressed by these Illamasqua shades! They look so smooth!
This may just be me noticing a little thing 😛 But Christine, under each post it says “# comment” rather than comments!

This yellow shade is too tricky to look alright when used in makeup, but still really pretty!
MAC Yellow Chrome is absolutely similar

I *really* want to try Illamasqua shadows now! Although I can’t see myself picking up any of the colors you’ve reviewed, the quality on all of them seems very consistent. Do you know if the darker/deeper shades are on par with these brighter ones?

hahahah..I scrolled down quickly to see the look with this Illamasqua colour..  The colour is gorgeous, but it completely scares the heck out of me.  I’ve become so much more adventurous with colour play since I started reading your Blog, Christine, but I haven’t reached this level yet.

I’m not sure if you own any Sugarpill shadows but is this similar/identical to Sugarpill’s Buttercupcake? bc that’s what I have. it would be good to know thanks 🙂

I love, love, love bright, intense, hyper-pigmented colours. Alas, I don’t think I could ever pull this off. With my olive/yellow skin tones, I’d probably look like I’d succumbed to malaria. More importantly, I don’t trust my skills in applying this as a light highlighting touch with other, more contrasting shades. But gosh, it could be so pretty with a dark, shimmering navy and some rich blues.
