Illamasqua Glamore Lipstick
Illamasqua Glamore Lipstick ($26.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a new formula that’s supposed to be “colour intense,” “long lasting,” hydrating, and have a “satin finish.” It seems like Illamasqua created a formula in response to some customers finding their original formula too drying or stiff to use. In my experience, some shades are drying and stiff, others are lightly creamy and apply evenly (though not particularly hydrating). This new formula is definitely creamier and has a lot more slip, so the resulting finish is more luminous. It takes about an hour and a half for the shine to fade and become more satin-like. I had no issues getting rich, opaque color payoff with any of the three new shades, and they glided on evenly and smoothly. I didn’t find them hydrating; they were more “not drying” than anything else, but these wear quite awhile, so it’ll depend on how long your lips can go without any real boost in moisture. I didn’t notice any scent, but I could detect a little waxiness from the base ingredients.
Luster is described as a “candy pink.” It’s a brightened, light-medium, blue-based pink with a luminous sheen. It had rich, opaque color coverage and wore well for six and a half hours. Maybelline Pink Pop (P, $7.49) is more muted, less blue-based. MAC Pink Nouveau (P, $16.00) is slightly more muted. MAC Naughty Saute (LE, $16.00) is very similar. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Narcissus (P, $18.00) is slightly more muted. See comparison swatches.
Glissade is described as a “bold pink.” It’s a vibrant, medium-dark fuchsia pink with cool, blue undertones and a soft, luminous sheen. It had rich pigmentation, and it applied evenly. This shade wore well for over eight hours and leaves a stain behind. Estee Lauder Dominant (P, $30.00) is very similar. MAC Feeling Amorous? (LE, $20.00) is more muted, sheerer. Charlotte Tilbury Velvet Underground (P) is less glossy. Givenchy Fuchsia Irresistible (205) (P, $36.00) is slightly darker. MAC Girl About Town (P, $16.00) is more matte. Buxom Exhibitionist (P, $21.00) is lighter. See comparison swatches.
Soaked is described as a “vibrant orange.” It’s a bright, medium-dark orange with strong, red undertones and a luminous shine. It had intense, opaque color payoff, and the color went on very smoothly. This shade lasted for almost seven hours on me. Though all the shades are fairly dupable, this orange is something we’ve seen across brands, and these are all extremely similar: Giorgio Armani #300 (P, $32.00), Urban Decay Bang (P, $22.00), Maybelline Electric Orange (P, $7.49), MAC Booyah (LE, $18.00), MAC Fashion Nomad (LE, $16.00), and MAC Morange (P, $16.00) See comparison swatches.

Thanks for the swatches and review. I LOVE the colors and I’ve adored the products I’ve tried from Illamasqua so far. I just I wish I were daring enough to wear such vivid shades!
No problem, Eva! 🙂
These are all so bright and pretty, but Luster is my fave!
They’re all so vivid!
I love that shirt Christine!
Thanks 😀
Will you be reviewing the Illamasqua Fatale quad? I LOVE the look you created with it. The orange lipstick matched really nicely.
Hopefully!
I really like all the shades but they seem pretty dupable. I already have a dupe for each of these on my wish list. Do you think luster would be a better formula than mac pink nouveau for dry lips? I don’t think it would be worth getting both shades, they seem pretty similar.
Not really – I didn’t find any of these hydrating.
These look gorgeous! My favorite is glissade!
Yay!
I really like Glissade.. wavering back and forth about whether or not to try new formula.. the other formula gives me serious desert lips. In any event, had to mention, I think your eyes look so beautiful in these photos. You have me lemming the eyeshadow quad.
Decided to go with the Estee Lauder dupe.. have really wanted to try the new EL formula since your post and the reviews sound promising. And no, I didn’t stop at one shade..(cough)…
Good call 🙂 What other shades did you get?
Desirable, Dominant, Infamous, Defiant Coral, Potent. 😀
All great picks 🙂
The original formula is usually more “not hydrating” on me than severely drying, which is kind of what I had here. They feel nicer/more emollient initially but dry down early on. I would probably skip!
Ugh I really like how Glissade looks, but since Girl About Town isn’t the right fuschia for me, I’m not sure if I can pull of this one… 🙁
It might not be your best bet, because they’re very similar!
Glissade is gorgeous! I have a weakness for fuchsias, pinky reds, and reds so I know I don’t need Glissade. But am I going to buy it anyway? Probably.
Let me know how you like the new formula!
@Lisa, I heard THAT!
I have a ridiculous number of reds, bright pinks/fuchsias, and pinky reds, but I’m still drooling so heavily over Glissade that I’m risking shorting out my keyb- ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZT! 🙂
Beautiful! I heard that Sephora is going to stop selling Illamasqua though– someone on MUA mentioned it. I’m worried where I will get my Illa fix now!
So far, though I’ve asked, Illamasqua keeps assuring me that Sephora will continue to sell the brand. The press release for this particular collection still included Sephora as a place to purchase. Bloomingdale’s carries it now, though.
I look ghastly in orange, so I can at least ignore Soaked.
Glissade is calling my name, though; I’m trying to convince myself that I do NOT want to buy it, because I already own shades like MAC Girl About Town, Stila Intriguing, Bobbi Brown Rose Blossom, Illamasqua Atomic, MAC Hollywood Nights, and MAC Show Orchid.
Will I hate myself forever if I pass up Glissade?
I don’t think any of these are must-haves – they’re all really dupable!
Those look lovely!
Which was your fave?
I love glissade and Luster! Soaked is also nice, but oranges don’t look so good on me
Aww!
I’m pleased that Glissade is so awesome, because I might just have to try and add it to my collection of ballet-related makeup products! 😀
🙂 Oh, you would have loved MAC’s Danse collection!
Urgh…I buy Illamasqua lipstick for the unique colors (Underworld, Atomic…), so I wish that they would just change their main formula to make it less ridiculously dry! Why introduce a more moisturizing formula where the colors are essentially just duplicates of Maybelline, and do nothing to improve the signature unique colors that make Illamasqua so special? Makes no sense to me.
My guess is they’ll see how Glamore does, and if it’s something that takes off, they’ll add more colors. It’s also possible that a more emollient formula may make certain colors apply less evenly (though I’ve had that same issue with some of the less traditional colors in their current formula).
Wow these are bright! I’ve never tried the brand but am now intrigued. The formula looks amazing (and these look amazing on you). Any thoughts or recommendations for someone much lighter?
I agree with the comments that the eye shadow quad is great on your eyes.
These are the only shades in the formula thus far, but I’m a big fan of pinks like Luster and Glissade on even the fairest of skin tones!
I can see that…and I am suddenly into fuchsia…hm….
But I saw another comment above about the new Estee Lauder formula instead and might go that route instead (too). I’m intrigued by those as well and there are more color choices….
Glissade is so pretty! Although I think it looks rather warm (on you, at least), although not as warm as, say, OCC Queen Lip Tar.
It’s definitely not a super, super blue-based pink!
Is Illamasqua Soaked Glamore similar to Milani Mandarina lipstick?
I’m not sure if the color changed with the relaunch, but if it’s the same as the original version, Soaked is a little darker.
glissade is so pretty!
It is!
I hope they come out with some “out of the ordinary” colors in this finish! I would love to try a super creamy royal blue or lavender 😀
Hopefully if the formula is popular, they will!
I must buy Glissade and Soaked at some point.
Enjoy!
I want Luster so badly.
It would be pretty on you!
Though not unique, I think Glissade is really pretty! And I just have to say that I really love the eye look you did here 🙂
Thank you, Kath!
Thought these would be really drying but they look so glossy :o. Soaked is my favourite 🙂
They’re definitely more comfortable to wear than the original formula!
soaked! come to momma
It will be lovely on you!
I love them all, but I might go with Girl About Town or Dominant as I don’t have to order them. Sephora here doesn’t have Illamasqua 🙁
They usually have a good deal when you buy two lipsticks at the online store though, and the EL line hasn’t launced here, yet.
Oh, how to decide…
Removing self from keyboard to stare into (almost) empty wallet 🙂
All the shades looked beautiful on you, Christine. Awsome to be able to rock both vibrant pinks and vibrant oranges, wish I could.
Thanks, Helene!
Girl About Town is really a great lipstick, though – and obviously half the price (at least here) compared to Dominant!
LOVE these! Soaked is probably my favorite of the three.
I love how bright it is!
These are all sooo gorgeous! Sigh – It’s just that I have *more than enough of the same colors! Christine, would you say this formula is closer to MAC’s Cremesheen or Amplified, or Lustre even?
More like Amplified!
Got it, thank you!!
If this is what heaven look like… bring it..These colors are to die for
Haha!
Hey Christine! I’m trying to decide between a YSL and an Illamasqua lipstick for a splurge, would you still recommend YSL over these new formulas or have these grabbed your attention a bit more?
YSL is way more comfortable to wear, but they’re VERY different in texture. Do you like a lipstick that “clings” a lot? Illamasqua is going to sit more closely to the lips and wears longer, while YSL is creamier and has more slip.
My latest Illamasqua products, Glissade lipstick arrived today, and, merciful manna, it’sGORRRRR-GEEEEE-OUS!
I thought that I, Ms. Owner of 100 Lipsticks, was way past getting bladder-control-compromisingly excited over another new lipstick, especially since bright pinks are not exactly under-represented in my collection.
But Glissade, oh, Glissade, how I love thee! It is that rare bird – a pink that is bright *and* deep at the same time. This is the type of shade that actually makes my *skin* look smoother, somehow. And the formula is to die for! It’s richly pigmented, but there’s little trace of dryness, and there’s even a bit of shimmer, which I LOVE. All this, and it STAYS ON.
This is such a wonderful lipstick that now I’m almost, almost looking forward to my optometrist appointment this week, because that means I’ll get to wear Glissade out in public for the first time.
Almost.
My only “problem:” What liner do you wear with this?
What about MAC Beet?
Maybe MAC Magenta or MAC Shock Value?
