Illamasqua Fable Lipstick: Matte Bubblegum Pink

Illamasqua Fable Lipstick ($20.00 for 0.14 oz.) is described as a “matte bubblegum pink” by Sephora.

Fable is an opaque, warmed-up bubblegum pink. I’ve found most bubblegum pink lipsticks to run a tad cool, while I find this one has a definite warm edge to it. I also wouldn’t call it matte, and I’d say it is more of a semi-matte finish, because there is some glossiness/sheen to it that I don’t normally see in matte textures. I do like the way it looks with just the hint of glossiness, because it keeps the lipstick from being too dry (it’s a smidgen creamy) or flat. Illamasqua packs plenty of pigmentation into this tube of lipstick; there’s no building or layering required to achieve the opacity as seen in the lip swatch.

Though a lipstick will cost you $20, the value is still strong, because you get 0.14 oz. for your troubles. Compared to other high-end brands, Illamasqua is just a bit more expensive than MAC ($140/oz. vs. $143/oz.), but not by much. Their lipsticks are priced right in line with other competitors like Cargo and Make Up For Ever, as well.

The packaging is functional and isn’t over-sized (like their eyeshadows/blushes can feel like)–there’s just nothing special to it. I will say I do feel like their labels tend to rub off all too quickly.

  • Product: 8/10
  • Value: 8/10
  • Ease of Use: 8/10
  • Packaging: 7/10

Recommendation: If you like intense lip color, you may find Illamasqua’s matte lipsticks to be just the right kind for you.

Thanks for the swatch! I was considering this, but as I am a pale girl with cool pink undertones, warm pinks are not my cup of tea. I’m still looking for the perfect pale blue-based candy pink, sigh.

From my experience… not the case. They last about average on me (4 to 6 hours), and if it’s a deep color (like red), then they do stain a little bit. I definitely don’t get through a meal with this intact! I wish!

Oh, I hate to be that person, but I don’t care for the thickness and how it looks terribly unnatural like it just isn’t supposed to be there. I am telling myself the same thing as I just got that color and it is horrible on me. I feel as though I have this horrible pink lip because the product won’t blend in well with the natural lip. I couldn’t wear this out unless I really sheer it out and add a very light gloss.

Awww oh no! I have Howl, a really gorgeous red, and it melts right into my lips like it’s my natural lip color. I have heard a few ehhh things about Fable, but mostly good things about all the other colors. So Fable is just a bit hard to work with, but I know at least in my experience they’re not all like it.

Illamasqua lipstick is drying, but loves the pigmentation, totally cover my super pigmented lips :)…..but a bit better than Makeup Forever lipstick. MF is so drying, altho I like most of the colors. I never be a fan of MAC lipstick, I’ve tried too many times…either too matte, too sheer, the colors in between what I want, too frosty….sorry, I’m just not a MAC fan, lol. I found their quality so so, of course with their reasonable price. U get what U paid for.

I really love their lipsticks, more so than other HE brands like YSl or Chanel, but not having a Sephora that carries them is rough. I was wondering what the lipstick swatch in the middle was.

Really! Wow! I can’t say I feel the same, but I’m glad you found it for yourself 🙂 It’s not a lipstick – it’s Hussy blush.

I used to have this lipstick and it was the most gorgeous bubblegum pink I’ve ever owned. However, it was VERY drying and would sink into the lines of my lips so I ended up returning it. Do you know of a good dupe? From any brand.. MAC (I have most their bubblegum type pinks though), YSL, Givenchy, or any other brand..

Hey.. I actually JUST went to Nordstrom and I tried some of shu uemura’s Rouge Unlimited Shine lipsticks (I think that’s what they’re called) and 317 looks like The Perfect dupe. They’re $30 a pop though =( ..but I’ll happily spend that much for the perfect bubblegum color! However, it took some work to apply it evenly (Illamasqua’s was more even) but they were definitely moisturizing. Can’t wait to add it to my makeup arsenal!
