Illamasqua Dixie Cream Blush

Illamasqua Dixie Cream Blush (£16.50 for 0.14 oz.) is described as a “warm coral pink.” It’s a subtly warmed-up pink-coral with a satiny sheen. The color can be built up to be more true-to-pan or blended out for a very subtle flush of warm pink on cheeks. Tarte Blissful is similar, slightly less pink. MAC Posey is similar but less bright. Smashbox Blushing/Peony is milkier. theBalm Frat Boy is similar but softer. Make Up For Ever #6 is similar but less pink and lighter.

When it comes to cream blushes, don’t let the color of the pan scare you away, because of the density of creams, they often appear darker on the surface than they do when swatched. The intensity of application is in your hands! Typically, creams blend out easily and require very little product if you want just a tint of color. Illamasqua’s formula is lovely, because they provide a dewy finish that’s natural and luminous but never greasy or oily. It also works well on both bare skin and foundation. The texture is soft and creamy, and with Illamasqua’s highly-pigmented formula, I tend to use a stippling brush (like MAC’s 188) to yield light to medium color coverage. It wears for around seven hours on my skin and looks a noticeably faded after eight hours.

Illamasqua cream blushes are amazing! They’re my fave brand for cream blush. I have this colour and its gorgeous on my pale skin if I sheer it out a bit.

Oooh the swatch is so pretty. I’ve never tried a cream blush before, but this one is tempting.

And by the way, I just have to say that I’m in love with your website Christine. I just recently got interested in the world of make-up and your blog has made it so easy and fun to find great products. Thanks so much for all your hard work!

How does this shade compare to their cream blush in Rude? Have you seen/swatched that one before? I deeply love that shade and formula, but I’m curious to know if I will LOVE Dixie too. Thanks Christine!

oh im glad you reviewed this; i decided i wanted to make the dixie purchase a while back. and then the flipping thing when out of stock for ages.
i might see if i can pick it up asap, as i reckon its going to get super popular again after the swatch-fest has shown it off!

I’ve never purchased cream blush because I’m not sure how to use it. I wear liquid foundation: do I apply this over my foundation but before I set it with powder?

Oh my gosh I love this! I have been on such a pinky-coral kick lately. I actually just bought Laura Mercier’s Sheer Lip Color in Kissed Lips this afternoon. Wishful thinking that Spring was already here haha..

I have Dixie and it´s (next to Nars Cactus Flower) my favorite cream blush. And I prefer this one over Rude, which is really apricot orange compared to this yummy coral…love!

i have a question re: cream makeup sweating. ive tried googling this but just got hits about armpit sweat (ewww). i have a mac cream concealer that was sweating on a hot day – since then its quite dry to apply, and once applied, is quite dry and not as smooth as when new. my question is, would the makeup lose some quality when it sweats, because obviously some of the moisture content in the formulation has now been removed? or should the quality remain the same? any other experiences with that?

am just interested because i am looking into cream blushes, and looking at this one, and some other images of the mac cream blushes on here, looks like cream makeup just tends to sweat in general.
Thanks!

Mine have always remained the same, but they’ve only sweated upon arrival – e.g. after being shipped from one place to my place, but I haven’t had any problems with them sweating after that! I heard once that cream products will sweat (and lipsticks do as well!) when there are drastic changes in temperature.

Do you happen to have any insider info about whether this product will be available through Sephora online? I like purchasing from there for the free goodies…

Very beautiful color blush. I haven’t tried any of their products yet but would love to, I see them at Sephora all the time. Would this work on fair skin?
