If you could only use one makeup brand for the rest of your life, which would it be?

If you could only use one makeup brand for the rest of your life, which would it be? (Just for makeup, doesn’t include skincare!)

Guerlain–a lot of my favorite base products are from Guerlain (foundation, powder, finishing), which are the kind of products I could see myself using a lot and for many years. I’ve also really fallen for some of their limited edition blushes/highlighters. Most of their products are good, even if they’re not my ALL-time favorite every single time, it would be no hardship to use strictly Guerlain. Thank goodness this is hypothetical and I can use forty different brands instead 🙂

Probably MAC. There is something in every category from MAC that I love. I certainly wouldn’t want to have to use their products exclusively, but it wouldn’t be a bad brand to be stuck with!

xamyx Avatar

NARS. I feel I’ve wasted so much time & money on other brands. It’s not that I don’t like any of them, I just don’t reach for them as often.

Precious Avatar

Hard question to answer, but mine would probably be Guerlain too. I’ve fallen in love with Lingerie de Peau, I can’t even think of trying other foundations. Plus, the brand already has the basics covered, what more can I ask for? 🙂

VickyM Avatar

I didn´t even need to think my answer for one second, for me it would forever be Chanel no matter what. Adore all their lipsticks, great blushes, I don´t use a mascara by Chanel currently but I have a sample of one of their mascaras that I find nice. Good concealers, great lipglosses, some gorgeous nail polishes, and some really nice perfumes. Yes for me it will forever be Chanel 😀 .

AmyD Avatar

Ooh – I’ve seen Suqqu eyeshadows and brushes on blogs (they look amazing), but do you also use Suqqu base products, mascara, lip color?

shontay Avatar

When I really think about it, I have to say Chanel. MUFE is my favorite brand, but all-around I’d rather use Chanel the rest of my life for the eyeshadows and blushes which I prefer over MUFE.

sarah Avatar

Mac or Urban decay! The down side to mac would be they don’t do a great liquid liner. The down side to UD is the blushes/bronzers I am not a fan of.

Alegria Avatar

Urban Decay. I like the fluidity of their foundation but I absolutely love the color range of their eye pencils and eyeshadows. I haven’t tried their blush though, so I’d probably have to resort to pinching my cheeks for color!

Also did you hear about Le Metier de Beaute’s beauty vault vip program? I was wondering if you were thinking of subscribing?

Ida Avatar

I would say either YSL or Chanel, because I love most of their products and they both have HG products for me. If I should choose between the two, it would probably be Chanel.

Laura Avatar

If it wasn’t for the fact the MAC make terrible foundations I would have said them because my fave blushes, eyeliners, eyeshadows, face powders are all MAC. But seeing as I can’t wear no foundation in work I’d have to say Urban Decay. Love their Naked foundation and eyeshadow and the new lipsticks look fab.

Ajnushka_beauty Avatar

Guerlain. I like their foundations, lipsticks, mascara, and nearly all products from Terracota range. This is more than I need in daily makeup.
Or KIKO, if I had less money – good quality for lower price.

swapna v. Avatar

Bobbi Brown, I am in love with her powders, foundations, lipsticks and glosses. No other brand addresses the needs of Indian women.

Ade Avatar

It used to be Giorgio Armani gal, but now I’m an Hourglass believer!
If I should, I could literally put only Hourglass’ products on my face.
Primer, check.
Foundation, check.
Eyeshadow, check.
Mascara, check.
Blush, check.
Any lip products, check.
Finishing powder, CHECKKKK!!! *sorry, I’m obsessed with their ambient light, lol :D*

Tigerlily Avatar

Make Up For Ever as they hardly ever disappointed me quality-wise. I also find their color ranges pretty large and their brushes excellent.

Lex Avatar

it would probably be Tony Moly : because I love the tomatox ( I can’t live whithout!) and the bunny and the cat range : all of my base products from the care of my skin to the make up are from this brand ! The shipping from Corea to France is a big weak point… Ok I love the pakaging too : yes i am a girl!!! If the price is not a criterion, it will be guerlain too!

Dreamer19 Avatar

either Inglot or Mac. Just because of their bases & there are enough other products i like & need. But i couldn’t live w/ a brand that has awesome eyeshadows (I’m an addict) but no base i can use.

tzwiggy Avatar

That is a really hard question! I have products from several different brands that I can’t see myself living without (I NEED my NARS Smudgeproof, Jane Iredale foundation and Laura Mercier cake liner!), but if I had to use just one brand I guess I would chose MAC just because of the variety and amount of products. I can do both crazy bright and neutral looks with their products. They have put out some really bad LE products lately, but their permanent ones are pretty good, I really love their some of their eyeshadows and blushes.

I love brands like Burberry and Guerlain (amazing quality), but the range of shades is somewhat limited (mostly neutrals) and I can’t use some of their products because of the strong scent. The runner-ups would be Chanel and NARS (mostly unscented and good quality).

Ellen Avatar

100% agree on Guerlain. I first discovered them when I was looking for a new foundation, and I saw how much people loved the Lingerie de Peau. This was before I started following Temptalia (shame on me!), and when I went too look up other reviews of the foundation I not only got sucked into the line but also this fantastic website. And now the lovely ladies at Bergdorf’s Guerlain counter know me (and probably my credit card information) very well at this point!

Celine Avatar

Hard for me to choose between Clinique and Urban Decay. I love Clinique for basics such as foundation, powders and those great original chubby sticks. Or, Urban Decay since they have daring colors for eyeshades. Ugh, what a hard question!

Julia Avatar

This is tough. I would love to say urban decay, but they don’t make a foundation or concealer light enough for me. So, I would have to say Bobbi Brown, purely because that brand has a foundation match for me.

Wwendalynne Avatar

What a tough question! My surprising choice is Giorgio Armani. I guess I feel base product is the most important one of the lot and I can at least get a decent match. Also, Armani quality is consistently excellent. So happy this is purely hypothetical.

Rachel Avatar

I have been wanting to try Guerlain for a while now. If you had to choose one product as a good intro into the brand what would you choose? FYI I’m not a big lipstick person. Thanks for any suggestions!

Christine Avatar

I like their foundations (Lingerie de Peau, Parure GOld, which was recently discontinued), finishing powders (Pressed Meteorites or original Meteorites, which are in pearl shapes). I also like Les Voilettes, which is a skin-colored loose powder. Their new nail polish is excellent, too!

Veronica Avatar

Given some thought, I’d have to go with NARS. Love their face products. Love their lip shades. Their eyeshadows can be hit or miss, but a little research will help avoid the pitfalls. Just a generally good brand all around.

Patricia Avatar

Probably YSL or Guerlain. I’ve used YSL’s primer, foundation, blushes and lipsticks and I love them! I don’t have much of Guerlain (just an amazing eyeshadow palette), but I know their stuff won’t disappoint me 🙂

Mariella Avatar

This is another one of those “somebody wake me from this nightmare” questions. And as much as I love Guerlain (especially for foundation and eye shadow) and Hourglass (primer and eye shadow) and Stila (eye shadow….and more eye shadow and some of their eye brushes) and Tarte (blush and some of their LE eye shadows), if I could only use ONE brand, I would have to say “MAC” since they make a lot of brushes that I like and which would totally fill my needs, pretty much. They have skin care (important to me), Painterly (which would be my e/s base), loads of first rate eye shadows (in spite of all the stinkers they have), setting powders, mattifying powders, highlighters, lipsticks, concealers – a WHOLE whack of products that I like and use and which would more than suffice for the rest of my life! I don’t think I can say that about any of the other brands I like and use.

fabiola Avatar

MAC, almost all my makeup is from mac, I also like Tarte a lot, I have some tarte blushes, and they are so good. But almost all of my blushes are from mac, and my eyeshadows are mac and urban decay. I onw some nars products, one illamasqua blush, but always find myself purchasing mac cosmetics.

Veronica Avatar

That surprises me – I was told by an MUA that the NW10 is not a true 10 because it lacks an oil component, meaning that it oxidizes to an NW15 on some people. Maybe I misheard her? Generally, I only wear MAC in the summer because I “tan” to an NC/W15. In the winter months, I’m too fair for their foundations.

Julia Avatar

Hm, I hadn’t heard that. NW10 seems to work pretty well on me, though at times it DOES seem to go a bit darker. I will have to look into that. I also forgot that they have a W10 in their full coverage line, and, now that [most] PRO products are available online, that one is also an option.

Janeen Avatar

Urban Decay for the win! 75% of my make up is from them. I love them because they definitely have the quality but also don’t break my bank account. Plus their packaging is adorable.

Bella Avatar

Nars. I can only buy Nars online because it isn’t sold in this country, but even when a product turns out to be a completely different colour than I thought, is ALWAYS works with my skintone!! I get a lovely, bronzey, groomed and enhanced look all year round. (I could of course also get a bright and colourful one, but that doesn’t float my boat.
My foundations, tinted moisturisers, primers, mascara, not to mention loads of blush, eyeshadow, lipsticks, palettes…all Nars.
I think I’d live!!!

Ellen Avatar

Tarte or Urban Decay! Most of my things are from them and I think I can make many complete face looks with all my various products from them. Love both UD and Tarte foundations

Clare Avatar

Probably Urban Decay, especially since they’re now revamping their lip line. I absolutely love their eyeshadows and eyeliners. But I’d really miss my Revlon Colorburst lip glosses! They’re my absolute favorite makeup product, and I think I have about a dozen. Thank God for BOGO sales! But unfortunately, Revlon eye products aren’t so good.

Jan Avatar

Shisheido. Skincare is still among the best in my eyes. Sun care products are the best to me (except maybe Neutrogena). Foundations work well and I’m not allergic to any. They hide many sins. Other makeup items are not as good as other high end brands but I still like them a lot!

Christina Avatar

I. Would have to say Nars. Their foundations are A+ for me. They have an amazing range of shades for almost every skin tone. Their eyeshadows are, imo, one of the thebest in the cosmetics industry-pigmented,blendable,and great daily shades but with unique and unexpected shades as well. Their brushes are great quality and most important of all- they have the ability to make me feel beautiful.

AmyD Avatar

wow, awesome question. as i’ve progressed in trying different brands and deciding what works best on me, i’m drawn more and more to make up for ever – foundation, lip and eye liners (pencil and liquid), the hd blush (so wonderful), mascara (i don’t hear a ton of talk about mufe smoky lash and aqua smoky lash, but these are the only mascaras i’ve used that don’t give me raccoon eyes and that make my lashes look like falsies). once i finish my mac powders, i’m going to give the mufe powders a try for finishing. great lip and eye colors, too! and all of their products are long-lasting on my oily skin; they don’t melt off.

so that being said, if i had to stick with another brand…it would probably be becca, actually. i love the radiant skin satin foundation; i think the cream blushes and beach tints are great for color; the bronzers and shimmering skin perfectors are wonderful for contouring and highlighting. i haven’t tried becca’s eye products…that might be a dealbreaker.

ok fine…maybe i could also work with nars only 😀 great blushes and GREAT tinted moisturizers/foundations and powders! beautiful eyeshadows, new good concealer…it would be hard to choose just one brand, i guess! 🙂

breyerchic04 Avatar

I thought I’d say mac, but there’s so much I love about Urban Decay right now. The foundations is great, the powder looks pretty good so do the new lipsticks, I love 24/7 eye shadow and eye liner pencils, like their eyeshadows (though often there’s too much glitter). I have had a sample of their cream blush and it wasn’t bad but there wasn’t a shade I was in love with, and I don’t think the pencil concealer works for me.

I’ve also come pretty close with Stila, they have nice foundations, cream blush, highlight products, gel liners, shadows that i love. Mac is missing eyeliners I can’t live without.

Elle Avatar

Oh my goodness… Tom Ford~!! The brush quality is AMAZING, the blush and bronzers are pigmented and incredibly easy to blend, the nail polishes dry down smooth and streak-free, the lipsticks are opaque AND non-drying… I could go on, but I think everyone will think that I work for Mr. Ford. ^^ lol

Gemma W Avatar

same here!!
Their brushes are incredible.
The Lipsticks are non-drying..I don’t need to use any balm underneath!!
Foundation and finishing powder are also very smooth and lightweight. I love TF!

I hope I could work for Mr. Ford too.. then I could the discount for buying these luxuries!
LOL

Chelsea Avatar

Chanel. Their products are amazing. I love the Vitalumiere Aqua foundation – it’s the only one I’ve replaced when I’ve emptied the bottle! No breakouts on my sensitive skin, and it looks flawless. Everything else I’ve tried from Chanel has been great too. I’m definitely a huge fan!

Ivy Avatar

Hey girls,

My biggest problem was mascara (my favorite make up element). I got a new product from my best friend, and for the first time I am fully satisfied. Especially when I heard the story about it. It is called lash sleeve mascara. It is perfect for us who work at the gym. If you got the chance try it

Cat G Avatar

BareMinerals for sure! I love their primer, foundation, concealer, blushes, highlighters, eyeshadows. I would say Guerlain but there’s no way I could afford my whole collection to be Guerlain for the rest of my life!

Susan Nevling Avatar

Such a difficult question. I love UDfor eyes and lips. Don’t care for their foundation. Foundation and setting powder wold be MUFE or Laura Mercier. Eyebrow is Laura Mercier and mascara is Dior.
I guess if I had to choose one globally, it would be MUFE because of their huge variety of products and color.

Sarah Avatar

It would have to be a brand with plenty of amazing nail polish. I am tempted to say Nars because I love their polish, blush, eyeshadow, and eyeshadow primer… but I’ve never tried their foundation or powder! My other option would be MAC–they have enough new releases to keep me busy, and a good variety of products I like.

Laurel Avatar

I’m going to say Benefit and I know I’m the minority. I just have so many HG products from that brand and I can deal with their eyeshadows, lipsticks, and glosses. Their foundations, concealers, powders, blushes, and highlighters are HG for me! I know their shade selections suck but they always match me well.

Stephanie Avatar

Easily Makeup Forever. After getting my 40% pro discount I’ve been able to swap out a lot of my old goodies for similar mufe stuff and the quality is outstanding and about 80% of my kit is now mufe. I love their satin lipsticks especially. The only thing that would be hard to give up would be mac lipsticks and cover girl lash blast mascara.

Geneva Avatar

I would have to go with MAC because the majority of my staple products are theirs. I love Satin Taupe and Saddle e/s, their pro longwear concealer, their eyebrow pencils and paint pots. If I couldn’t use MAC, my second choice would be Nars and my third choice would be Chanel.

Lauren Avatar

Hard question. Either Estee Lauder or Tarte. I like the widest range of products from both brands. I prefer Estee Lauder foundation better than Tarte foundation for my oily skin, but I like Tarte tinted moisturizer and BB cream a lot. I like Tarte setting powder. I prefer Tarte powder blush but Estee Lauder cream blush. I like tarte powder shadows best and Estee Lauder cream shadows best. Both brands have great mascara and lip products.

Chandra Avatar

I would have to say Nars. I think I could manage with that brand and not feel like I’m compromising. I love basically all there blushes, eyeshadows, and palettes. Not to mention brushes.

Mardi Avatar

If you asked me a couple of months ago I’d have said Clinique. But since I found out they’d resumed testing on animals I won’t be buying Clinique any more. My research shows that so many brands test on animals – MAC, Revlon, Estée Lauder, Maybelline, Chanel, Dior, Benefit, Clarins, Makeup Forever, Bobbi Brown, Shiseido, Shu Uemura, Lancôme to name a few.

But I’m loving Alpha-H for skincare, I’ve bought and loved Urban Decay and theBalm colour cosmetics and I love love love my new Stila concealer. Oh and DeVita primer is amaaaazing! So just one when I’ve discovered this whole new world? NO WAY!

Lauren M Avatar

It is BECCA all the way, every day.
I agree that it’s a tough choice but BECCA pulls out all the stops with illuminator, foundation, concealer, beach tints, primers, and the best liner ever – Goa.

Iliana Avatar

Guerlain, for sure since most of my Holy Grail products are from Guerlain! When it comes to this brand, there are two categories of products for me; those that become Holy Grails and those that i love… I have yet to find a product that i dislike/hate! I simply adore their foundations, finishing powders, lipsticks, eyeshadows, eyeshadow primer, the Meteorites primers, the Terracotta range, fragrances, nail polishes and their limited edition compacts (bronzers/highlighters/blushes) – OMG!

AngieButterfly Avatar

This is tough because I’m currently in the market for a go-to brand. It used to be Urban Decay, Revlon (I think this would’ve been the one I’d choose if I could only choose one), or NARS, but since going cruelty free I have to cherry pick. I am super envious and oddly nostalgic reading these comments, though. Lol.

Vanessa V Avatar

Its such a toss up between Lancome, Bobbi Brown and Chanel. I think I could put these 3 brands in a hat and pick and I would be happy with which ever was pulled.

divinem1 (Melissa) Avatar

Make Up For Ever – They do not add SPF to their HD liquid foundation, and my ultra-super-uber-ridiculously sensitive skin tolerates all of their makeup without allergic reaction.

Gemma W Avatar

Tom Ford,, recent favourite! luxurious (for my whole life that should be luxurious for my eyeballs!)
and they are in high qualities (of coz).

Christine , My previous choice was Guerlain too, Unfortunately,I noticed that I got few little pimples while I was using Lingerie foundation..I will use more times to check that out… :'(
Their Primers, Meteorites and lipsticks are very good.

Natalie Avatar

If you’d asked me 2 years ago I would have said MAC without question. Now though, I think my answer would be Dior. Don’t tempt me to look into Guerlain, my burgeoning Dior addiction is expensive enough!

Adina Avatar

I’d like to say Nars but because it’s kind of expensive for me and also is not available in my country(Romania) it would probably be Bourjois.

Clara Avatar

For me it would be MAC because of their diversity in color cosmetics. I never tested their foundations or powders, but I guess I could deal with them.

Brenna Avatar

I would choose Tarte because I have found all of the products that I have tried from it to be high quality including its brushes. I love it especially because it is formulated without some bad ingredients that most other brands have in their products.

Jennifer Avatar

Its a toss between two. Nars on one hand because they have alot of staple products I use. Their tinted moisturizer, plenty of blushes, turkish delight lipgloss, their Laguna bronzer and I love their pure matte lipsticks, I could go on and on!

My second choice would be Mac only because its such a huge range of products. You probably won’t ever like everything a brand puts out but with Mac their constantly rolling out new products so it won’t ever get boring lol

These brand aren’t known for their eye shadows but I’m not big on that anyways. My eyes are always neutral.
