I do a weekly look – I pick out everything I’m going to use for the week on a Sunday night and set it up in a glam tray to use. I (try to) use a different blush, lipstick, and eyeshadow or palette each week.
This is a good tip!
Love this idea!! Going to definitely try it!!
In a word: badly. Very badly. I get obsessed with certain products and I won’t put them down for weeks. There are more than a few palettes that sit rather unloved in my drawer. I need to start keeping an inventory and recently used spreadsheet.
To be honest, I don’t rotate through products either. Some days if I have time to play then I pull out products that I have not used in awhile and I try new looks. I keep tried and true items in the top drawer and use those on days when I don’t have time to do a new look. I find that my days are about 50/50 between playing and needing a quick look so my products get used just not on any type of rotation.
Other than my lipsticks, I’m just not too good at it. But since I do a seasonal rotation of sorts, certain shades get more use depending on what time of year it is. Back when I was still doing makeup challenges, I did rotate through my many eye and cheek products, so it may be time to return to doing that!
I have a ‘yearly planner’ whereby I use a different brand in my stash each month. March is Chantecaille month, April is Charlotte Tilbury & Anastasia Beverly Hills, May is MAC month, etc. That way, everything gets used eventually!
I forgot to add that if i don’t have enough from a particular brand, I ‘double up’ with another one to use in the same month.
I love this idea!
What a great idea!
I apply my make-up when I get to work usually, so I have an “Everyday” make-up bag. Usually about once a fortnight I’ll go through it & replace with different items/shades from my stash
I have an acrylic organizer on my vanity with items I am currently using. I change out those items frequently. Now that it is almost Spring, the colors lean towards that but of course there are items I always have out. When it’s fall, I bring back colors that I gravitate for those month. I don’t own many palettes so it’s pretty easy to rotate from those. I have them in a basket near my vanity so I can easily pick from
I try to switch out a few things every Sunday, but there are still way too many products that dont get enough love.
This is actually pretty hard for me, even though I don’t own too much makeup. I’ll try to use a different eyeshadow palette for casual looks, but if I’m going out, I stick to what I know. I really should get better at rotating through my makeup.
I always use whatever is in my Muji drawers, so I switch new items in if I think I’m not using them enough. 🙂
I’m pretty good at rotating my lipstick and blush, although I don’t exactly have a system in place. I simply try to pick a lipstick I haven’t worn in a few weeks and then picking a blush that goes well with it. I’m not at all good at rotating eyeshadows though. I’m not very good at doing eyeshadow, especially complex looks and there are some colours that I’m definitely more comfortable with than others. I own some eyeshadows that I look at and go “oh that’s so pretty” but I have no idea how to actually use them on the eyes. They tend to be the blues and greens in my collection.
I don’t know if it’s rotating or not, but I do try to work in skincare samples as much as possible in my otherwise fairly well set morning and evening routine. My color stash is so small (relatively speaking) that I don’t really concern myself with rotation. Every season or so, I swatch everything I own onto white paper and label it. It helps me to decide what I might like to add to my collection, what I’m not using but should, and what I need to discard, if anything. I’m so over having too much of anything anymore. It feels good not to have to deal with so much unnecessary stuff and clutter.
I’d like to add that I’m all in with mixing products, and I love all the new liquid items that are out now to mix and match with what I already own. Just mixed a concealer with a color corrector and shade adjuster to create a new product that I like better than the original one I purchased. Maybe mixing is the twin sister of rotating, lol.
I have a tote where everything I am currently using sits. Since I am currently panning my makeup I switch product out as it gets used up. Sometimes I will go into my stash to fill in holes in my current use it up tote as the need arises.
I just try to use different things everyday, but I don’t have a set system.
I’m the same way – with blush, lipstick, eyeshadow….at least my million shades of brown get some use! Basics stay basic, though I may use the same cream shadow as a base….
No particular approach — I suppose it’s a matter of mood (I’m tired of my pattern so need to pull new things out of the stash), weather/season, and inspiration from others’ looks. IIf I were more diligent and thoughtful about shopping my stash I’d be rotating more through; something to work on.
It’s so hard with a trillion products coming out! I’ve been lacking on using Morphe palettes because they keep up my other palettes organized lol but I think if I had a better organization system then I would use them since I see them lol
I don’t do a particularly good job. There’s products I like so much and that do well on me that I hate to put them aside to bring something else in. One of the hardest things around just because I so strongly tend to favor some products.
I should attempt a plan…so far – NOTHING. NADA. ZILCH.
There’s always tomorrow…today is #NationalNappingDay so I’ll nap on it and hope for a better tomorrow!! LOL
I usually just have stuff that looks more seasonally appropriate and then stuff I can sandwich in anywhere to fill in.
The only thing I rotate is lipstick really. My other makeup is pretty much the same since I can’t use eyeshadows, which would be something I’d rotate for sure if I could use.
Forgot to say that I rotate my lipsticks daily depending on my mood.
I definitely struggle with this! I think I am able to rotate pretty effectively through eyeshadow because I do my makeup based on my outfit. But, I tend to not rotate within shades much (using the same 3 nudes instead of reaching for others). Something to work on! Otherwise, I am pretty bad at rotation because I want to use up things before they expire or dry out. Using the same thing everyday helps speed that up.
It’s really eye shadow palettes that I rotate and generally it’s for a couple of weeks. But then I may fall in love with a particular palette all over again and use it for longer.
I don’t rotate my lipsticks because I use the shades nearly all the time.
I’m okay with it but could be better. I typically plan my makeup around what I’m wearing that day. My problem is I get stuck on one color family for my clothes so then I’m stuck with the same colors for my makeup.
F here too because I have favorites that I wear – until new favorites come along!
Not quite certain what “rotating through” means. At any given time, I am using the one or two color palettes I really happen to be enjoying, I always use the same mascara, so I don’t really rotate anything at all. My skincare stays the same year round, except in winter when I use a deeper moisturizing night cream.
To begin with – no system whatsoever. The only effort I make that can be somehow counted as “rotation” is I do not use the same products two days in a raw, no matter how much I loved the look or a particular product. Primers do not count, cause I only have one for the eyelids and one for my face. Do not have a variety of brow products either, so it is the same everyday.
Very, very randomly!!
I try to rotate seasonally!
I love to rotate just about daily on eyeshadows, blushes, lipsticks. Also seasonal just hid my darker color in the back of my lighter Spring/Summer color which I place in another separate container at the front. I love it keeps it fun and aware of what I own.
Honestly, my collection is so vast that rotating isn’t something I do. I just use what I want to use and some things get much more use than others. My makeup is a happy, semi-organized chaos!
I try to keep my stash to a minimum for certain products (I’ve given up on limiting lip products…) but I tend to have seasonal change-ups that make me look through things, declutter, and switch up what I’m using. It’s like spring cleaning meets shopping my stash.
Usually I pick something that goes well with what I’m wearing, even a simple look but change colors.
