How do you coordinate your makeup with clothes and/or accessories?
I live in loungewear since I work from home and cuddle with a dog that sheds 24/7, so I don’t coordinate much with my clothes on a day-to-day basis. If I do leave the house, I try to complement my makeup in a subtle way (e.g. if I’m wearing teal eye makeup, then a cool-toned shirt, possibly gray or black or with a subtle print that has a touch of teal somewhere in it). For earrings, I tend to coordinate by tone or actual color, and I will do that even if I don’t leave the house!
I usually coordinate makeup to my outfit, but there are times when I coordinate my clothes to my makeup, if I have something specific in min. I once bought a dressy outfit for a party based on the lipstick I wanted to wear.
My eye makeup is usually neutral, though it can lean warmer or cooler depending on my outfit. My lipstick has to go well with whatever top I’m wearing. Not necessarily in a matchy-match way, though sometimes I do that (and always get compliments!), but my top and lipstick shades have to complement each other. Warm color outfits go with warm eye and lip looks and vice versa.
I don’t know that I coordinate per se; there are just some reference points. Like, for daytime/work settings if I’m going more monochromatic in black/gray clothes, I’m likely to wear more purples and pinks; if stronger amber/rust/camel tones, then more reds and strong warm neutrals. I’m warm toned, so all is warm-leaning at least all the time.
For nights out, since I wear mostly black for nights out, seasonal inputs (berry lips and eyes for winter, red lips summer) and mood (like, gold or no) matter. Weekends — based more on whim than anything — in the mood for blue liner, sure why not; feel like skipping eyeshadows, sure why not; etc.
I try to make a point not to be too matchy matchy with my make up and outfit for the day… I mostly just try to make sure I don’t look like a clown, lol
You don’t coordinate your makeup with the colors in Mellan’s bow ties? 🙂
I pretty much follow the same system as you do…
I don’t ? At work, I wear almost all black and very minimal, usually neutral (i.e. quick/easy to throw on, doesn’t sweat off) makeup. When I do makeup for fun/art, the outfit doesn’t really matter (and I’m usually dressed for lazy comfort in jeans and a T-shirt anyway).
With a good half of my closet containing black, it’s pretty easy! When I wear black, I can wear whatever I feel like. I also wear quite a lot of purple, teal, aqua, orange, red, and olive green. When I wear something colorful, especially a print, I will use one of it’s brilliant hues as an eyeshadow look or as my lipstick color. I try not to go too matchy-matchy, though.
I tend to compliment my clothing with my makeup but I generally do my makeup first and then choose my clothing. I am more concerned about getting my tones correct rather than specific color coordination.
I coordinate my makeup with my eye glass frames but not with other accessories. I have three pairs, one in teal, one in black, and one in red. I can wear the black with any look but if I have gone very warm toned, like Viseart Minx or Chanel Candeur et Experience, the teal looks odd and the red is a bit much. If I do pink/purple, it can be black or teal. Greens can be any of them.
I don’t coordinate, but wow, Christine, what a life. I’m so jealous. Makeup and a dog all day; can’t go wrong.
I look at the major shades in what I am wearing a either choose eye shadow shades to co-ordinate with that and a lipstick shade as well.
Sometimes, when I have a particular eyeshadow or lippie I want to wear, I match my outfit to my makeup.
I kind of coordinate. Like, I won’t wear a very warm-toned look if I’m going to wear a cool-toned shirt. It’s strange, cool-toned makeup makes me look dead but cool-toned clothing shows off how warm my skin is in a nice way. Basically, I just try not to completely clash and look like a weirdo.
I always coordinate my make up to my wardrobe. Typically mixing lipstick tones and hues to match an accessory (cardigan, hand bag etc) or a colour in the fabric of what I’m wearing. It’s a bit of a daily challenge that feels oddly satisfying ?.
