Refills? Nice! I wish more brands would do this!
As much of a fan of the iconic…well…Icon (LOL), I feel like Hourglass is moving too uptown for me. I understand the environment-friendly notion of buying cases and refills (and I do with Paul & Joe) though. Are the lipsticks going to come with applicators or are they all separate? I noticed that the refill section mentions “applicator sold separately” so I assume that from the start you must buy the components? If so, spending $56 to get a working set is not something I’m anxious to do. And of course if you like more than one shade, it’s not like anyone is going to pull out the lipstick from the applicator so that means you would need to start off buying both components for each shade. If the original does come in a reusable applicator, I’d most likely be interested in trying a shade or two.
Oh, answered my own question – LOL Clicked through your link and it does come initially with the applicator. I might be in trouble! 😉
I was worried this would be small, but Sephora’s website says it’s nine grams–three times the size of an Urban Decay lipstick. That would make these a great price for the amount of product you receive, especially at the refill price. I’m curious to see how these will perform.
I saw that too and was thinking they forgot a 0, and that it’s actually 0.03oz
Probably! Lipsticks this style are usually pretty small. I hope not, though!
Looks like it is 0.03 oz, according to Hourglass’s website. Too bad! The refill price is still not terrible for a high end brand. I shouldn’t have been expecting a value from Hourglass, I guess!
I just got this from Sephora and it is way smaller than it looks in these photos, so I think it is 0.03 oz. The camera supposedly adds weight to people and I guess it does that to products too lol. Don’t shoot the messenger 🙂 but if you’re looking for something bigger, this probably isn’t the product for you.
On Sephora it says .9g which is under 1g so it’s less than 1/3 of the Urban Decay 3g lipsticks. They are much smaller than the Hourglass regular lipsticks at 3.5g or their Girl Stylos at 2.5g. These new lipsticks work out at double the price of a Tom Ford lipstick!
I love the idea of “refillable” (I’m old so I remember when refills were a “given” with high end companies like Lauder and Ultima II) but those holders or cases – they look like you could do yourself an injury with them! A moment’s inattention and you could have someone’s eye out!
Yeah, Mariella, kind of waiting for the headline in which this lipstick is the weapon. Or s.o. deocculates while trying to apply and drive. It’s a tad too Loubou-ish for me. But, w/Paul and Joe, the cases are the most fun, Michele. Kawaii, f’sure, but innocent, sweet, and appealing.
Mariella, you are so funny – but you’re right – I could totally see myself using these without my glasses on!
The refills are nice, but I kinda hate that applicator shape. It doesn’t look make-up bag friendly and takes up extra space in your make-up drawer! I get wanting to be unique, but I’d rather have better quality regular shaped packaging instead (I was shocked how cheap the Louboutain products felt!), especially at these higher price points.
It reminds me of being 11 years old when my allowance only covered the cost of a refill. I don’t know that I want to go back there.
Just take my money, Hourglass. I’ll be looking forward to these–and they’re not matte! Yay!
I’m in favor of the refillable format; Cle de Peau switched to that format years ago, so I’m fine with buying the lipsticks and holder separately if that were the case. The only annoying part of that is if you have more than one you have to open everything to find the color you’re looking for. It’s a minor problem, but it is tedious. What bothers me most about this release is why would I possibly want to buy a lipstick that looks like a cigarette holder? Not to get all preachy, buy you watch someone close to you die of lung cancer makes this a bit repellant. Even without that, I have zero interest in recreating that aspect of the art deco period. I don’t get it.
Not to mention trying to go through airport or government building security with this! I’ll pass!!!!
I wonder if you can use the refill only. From the picture of the At Night refill, it looks like it might be possible to skip the case/applicator altogether! I, for one, don’t need the glam or extra packaging.
Way too many lipsticks in this collection…. and I don’t fancy that shape of a lipstick surviving in my handbag either.
I also have a nasty feeling that these might break easily in a bit of heat….say a summer’s day too.
Plus the lipstick holder is sold separately…. so how are you supposed to use the lipstick otherwise?
Am I sounding like I am not sold on these?
The applicator looks really cool, and I love the idea of interchangeable refills.
Maybe I’m not understanding what I’m seeing, but it sure looks lime you could use the refills just as they are, without the ‘applicator.”
*like* …
… looks*like* …
[sigh]
I know I’m going to need at least ONE of these! Perhaps, I’m Addicted (to makeup and cats!)? Or possibly, I Can’t Live Without (ice cream!)?
Hey, this could be loads of fun!
Hourglass used to have refillable cases for their classic lipsticks back in the day, so I’m happy to see that they are returning to this format. These look nice, but some of the colour descriptions make me wonder if they are, in fact, replacing the classic bullets with these. I really hope not. I’m very fond of many of the colours in that line and would hate to lose them or have them replaced with something that isn’t quite the same.
Very cool idea; I look forward to seeing these!
