Not that it’s really marketed as a brow gel, but I had heard great things about Maybelline Great Lash clear mascara for brows. It didn’t really do anything for me, and in fact, flaked off. I wanted to love it… but I just can’t

There used to be this asian release Maybelline brow duo palette. One side was neutral brown wax that went on really sheer and a powder on the other side which was a light tan that looks pinkish. It has a small slanted angled brush that had bristles that was too thick and dense for precision shaping of the brows. Maybe I was using it wrong because I was really new with makeup when I had it but it never worked out for me as the color was too off and the wax didn’t stay where I put it.

I haven’t tried a brow wax, so I’m looking forward to reading the comments of others.

I would personally *love* to see products in true BLACK; I’ve tried dark brown & charcoal, but they just look odd, even on other people. If anyone knows of a brow product in black, I’d love to know!

It’s not the worst one, but the most expensive one I ever got, was a brow gel by Dior. And while it wasn’t bad, it wasn’t nearly as good as other brow gels I tried, like for example e.l.f.’s brow gel, which is super cheap.

But my all-time favorite is still regular medium hold hair gel. Does a great job!

MAC’s tinted Brow Gel is really good when I’m in a hurry and I don’t want to use pencil or powder to fill in my brows. For a clear brow gel though, Maybelline clear mascara is a good choice. It’s inexpensive and it gets the job down. The only wax I’ve tried was in a Smashbox brow trio and I wasn’t fond of it. I prefer brow gel over brow wax.

Out of a long list of misses- e.l.f. Brow Kit. Horrible! The shame of it is that the wax is a dark ash based blackish brown, perfect for me! But it’s a mess. Half their stuff rocks, half is a mess.

That’s funny, I just got their brow kit on sale in light and I love it! I like a strong brow, and I use the wax, which is more like a thin gel liner, I am only looking for a minimal hold so the lack of wax doesn’t bother me, and then I set it with the powder. It held great and didn’t budge, but I try to to touch my face for my skin’s sake.

worst has been the maybelline clear lash mascara it just wet my eyebrows and thats it
ulta’s eye brow gel is way better, i like it as much as high end brands i have tried

Smashbox – the powder that comes with it is too lose or chalky and the wax is worthless! It’s too creamy, doesn’t hold and gives a totally drawn-on fake look.

Benefit’s Brow Zings. But it seems very popular so maybe I’m just odd. Can’t stand fiddling around with the small applicators in the case. Also, the more I used it the more I didn’t like the tackiness of the wax. Have gone back to the Diorshow Brow Styler.

I recently bought one from la splash with a pencil on one end and a brow geo set on the other. It’s just terrible. The gel is so wet and the stopper doesn’t really clean off the the wand. It’s kike dipping a spooly in gravy and try to dovyiur brows like that. It just made my brows wet and brown ram all over my face instead of holding then in place.

I would have to say H&M’s Brow Gel. I had heard a few positive comments about it, so I thought I’d give it a try. Just a couple of euros miss, but just to let you others know, don’t bother. 🙂

Boots makes a clear gel for brows or lashes that’s pretty worthless. It sort of runs the brush through the brows–even thick brows–and deposits zero product to hold the brows. Lancome make the best brow gel, IMO.

I fill my brows with Estee Lauder’s Wild Truffle eyeshadow + MAC’s 208 brush (which I’ve had almost 15 years), but to keep them in place, when necessary, I use a clear wax pencil from Anastasia after I’ve filled etc. I’d like to try NYX’s version of the same wax pencil since it’s only $9. Anastasia’s is 20-something; I got it as a promo. Love it, but would love a dupe for $9 lol

Has anyone tried the NYX pencil? I’d love to hear if it’s any good. 🙂

Anastasia Beverly Hills makes great clear brow gel. I recently bought Bobbi Brown’s but have yet to try it. I’m not really one for tinted brow gels.

H&M clear brow gel. I know, H&M, but I didn’t feel like spening another 15 euro’s at MAC for a brow gel.
But The H&M one did… nothing.
it didn’t flake or so, but it just disappeared! if you don’t have bangs that attack your brows the whole day this could be an option, but I’ll stay with my MAC one.

I really didn’t like the Anastasia brow gels. I’ve tried the clear and colored formulas and they make my eyebrows look and feel crusty and flaky…ick /:
It’s strange because the Anastasia brow whiz pencil is my HG brow product…but the gels aren’t up to snuff. I do, however, really like the MAC brow set and the Maybelline clear mascara as a brow gel!

Lisa J Avatar

I’ve had a problem with both, as well. LOVE the brow powders and pencils, but the gels just didn’t work for me. They would change the texture of my brows and even the overall color…even the clear one!! I don’t know, but shiny and crusty brows ain’t my thing!! Hopefully they will improve the formula because there are quite a few bad reviews out there and they all say the same thing.

Maryrose Avatar

Worst- This would have to be Maybelline Great Lash clear mascara..way too wet!
Best- ELF clear brow gel. This product is great, double ended, and you can’t beat the $1 price tag!

Ruca Avatar

That Elf gel really IS awesome, and you’re right about the $1 price! My only complaint is that it runs out quickly because there isn’t much product in the container. I guess that’s where the $1 valuation comes from 🙂 Good stuff!

Brow waxes usually don’t work for me. They don’t really do anything, IMO. Maybe I’m just using them wrong, who knows. The one that comes to mind is Smashbox’s brow wax that is included in the brow trios. Completely pointless, and the brow powders weren’t anything special either. I’ve tried Maybelline great lash mascara and it made my brows sticky and the hairs shiny, which was an odd effect. Anastasia brow gels are awful, as well. Similar issues like the Maybelline great lash, but also made my brows crusty and flake after a while. The colored gel looked odd on me…it turned out a little too dark for my liking and it was a fairly light brunette color.

I prefer powders because I like softer brows, so I use Mac eyeshadows in Charcoal Brown and a bit of Wedge mixed together. The combo creates a very warm, soft brown that complements my hair. My brow hairs are naturally black, but sparse and this combo helps to make them look like they actually belong with my more golden toned brown hair LOL. 😛 When I’m in a hurry, a little Mac brow gel in Beguile gives them a bit of polish without too much hassle.
