I hope the eyeliners are better than the old ones. I looked like a raccoon after 3 hours-never had a eyeliner smear so bad on me!!! Hopefully I will find one that I like.

That’s quite a lot to release all at once. The rebrand seems more like a hybrid of the Ariana Grande REM line, Rare Beauty, a little Fenty, with a dash of Danessa Myricks than it really seems like its own thing. Perhaps it will perform well. I appreciate there are some unusual colors, but perhaps it would be have been better served released in smaller, curated batches. I quite like the idea of makeup inspired by art but for some reason I don’t see that inspiration clearly translated here.

Same. Right from the beginning “Haus Labs” has very much only given off “amazon manufactured some trash in one of the facilities they could get the cheapest deal on with the cheapest-sourced materials, on the backs of the cheapest labor possible, and asked gaga to put her face on it, to which she agreed for a handsome sum, and waited for the sales to roll in.”
I was never going to buy something that was clearly created *only* to make profit in a saturated market. There’s no art here. There’s no soul. There doesn’t even feel like an actual human being making decisions for the better behind the brand. You could tell me algorithms and spam bots came up with the concept and I’d believe you.

This is one of those iffy brands that I wouldn’t even dip my toe in without seeing reviews. A cool toned bronzer and a couple of the lip crayons are mildly interesting but thats about it for me.

I wish I had stocked up on the amazing liquid eyeliner because that didn’t make the rebrand. While the gel kohl eyeliners were smear-y, the regular gel eyeliners were pretty good (but dupeable elsewhere), so I may try one of the new ones.

And that says it all: the standout products were great basics, not innovative makeup you would expect from Lady Gaga.

While the cream shadows were fun and I’ll miss them, the line veered after launch into much more conventional offerings that were pretty boring. Such a missed opportunity.

There are a few pretty insightful short articles about this. Readers/commenters touched on quite a few of the points. The D-T-C model is not great for m/u. At least with S/U/store-available brands, you have a chance to see the products IRL, but not via A. On A, the hits came by googling Haus, certainly not for googling/reviews of products. Not #3 in blush or #5 in liners. And on A, you have to be. Sales fell off after the first pandemic wave….we’d been stuck at home and were looking for something new to pique our interest. Now we were less dependent on A to bring us things. A was looking for a broad-based audience they never found. Haus was looking for a bold way to enter the retail…or rather e-tail space. Makes sense, sort of. The pitfalls were obvious to any of us prone to analyze the m/u sector. Giant, un-dedicated e-tail is not as good a plan as associating with the pure beauty space. Gamble that did not pay off. Changes: well, Haus has gone clean/vegan which fits right in with S’s greenwashing strategy. I don’t have to list the # of products and cos that have dropped like rocks when they reformulated to vegan because quality suffered. Not dissing clean if it aligns with your values. It has not escaped us that brands that STARTED vegan made better products than brands who reformulated as vegan. C’s reviews showed that the liners were mediocre. I doubt vegan versions will be much of an improvement. Hope I’m wrong. I don’t see Haus having a long run or becoming a go-to at all.

looking fwd to hearing about how these perform– though the paints remind me too much of halsey’s about face eye paints (which are incredible! and have much cuter packaging imo).

I’m a little confused by “cool golden” and “warm pink”. Those are usually swapped in my mind. So even if they reviewed and swatched well, I wouldn’t buy without testing myself in person. Not saying it’s bad, because the colors look beautiful, but it’s not an easy web-only buy.

I think a rebrand was smart but not this. Firstly the price hike is ridiculous. The EXACT same lip product was $18 now its $22. And I’m not paying $40 for what is sure to be a very basic run of the mill highlighter formula. The overall new look is also boring. This is Gaga, it was boring before, its boring now. Some of these products look like they come in the most basic packaging offered, like the pigment paints. Here’s what I would have liked to see with the powder products. Gaga has her “eras” of her career that have a very clearly defined aesthetic. She should have come out with several different high end weighty compact components to choose from with color schemes/designs that reflect those different eras. You choose the compact you want, you choose the powder product you want and it comes as a bundle. Those pigments being in just plain boring squeezy tubes is just… Gaga is one of the only celebrities I can actually understand coming out with a makeup line but she’s also the one who has dropped the ball TWICE as far as aesthetic.

Very curious to see your reviews. I got a few products from Amazon that I felt were sub par. I ended up throwing them away. While the photos were very creative, what I didn’t see much of was how an average person would use the products. Hopefully the relaunch will be inclusive of that.

Chelsea Avatar

Like *SO* many people I was less than impressed with the original Haus products from Amazon.

The eyeliner pencils were quite frankly crap.

Slightly annoyed, slightly depressed that the packaging is so meh.

She’s GaGa! It could’ve been so creative! Even with leaning into her more traditional Tony Bennet duets styling it could’ve been aesthetically pleasing at least.

I won’t be spending my money on this relaunch unless the reviews come back spectacular.
