Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother’s Day!

To all the mothers out there–whether you’re an aunt, grandmother, mother, father, friend–enjoy a day that’s designed to celebrate you and all of the love and support you’ve given us over the years.  Thank you for putting up with us!

Mellan gave me a box of miniature cookies in the shape of dog bones.  I gave him a funny look and said I can’t eat these, to which he merely looked back at me with a sly, smug smile that said, “I know, but I can.”  He also gave me a beautiful bouquet that he and Daddy picked out!  Any one thinking about owning a lab… they really are like giant puppies for eternity.  Mellan’s four and a half years old, and truly, he’s as playful as he was when he was eight weeks old.

What was the best advice your mother (or mother figure) ever gave you? What was the best beauty-related advice?  Share in the comments!

It’s not advice per se, but it was showing me (by leading by example) that there’s nothing that women can’t do.  While growing up, it never occurred to me that I couldn’t do something because I was female, though I’ve encountered that attitude more and more as I got older (particularly in college and in graduate school).   My mom always preached that beauty came from within–I wasn’t even allowed to wear makeup growing up, and my mother rarely wore it–and though it took a long time to learn and feel that way about myself, it’s such an important message to reinforce in our children, ourselves, and friends.

Yay happy Mother’s Day dog mama! How nice of Mellan to give you presents! He’s always been soooo cute!

My mom’s like yours. She rarely uses even skincare products let alone makeup, but she’s blessed with great skin. I wasn’t allowed to wear makeup growing up either. Later I did find joy and empowerment in wearing some, but I’m glad I didn’t grow up thinking it’s something I NEED.

I’m glad I got that right, but I think I’m going to be a little more liberal when/if I have a daughter!

Happy Mother’s Day to you!  And what an *adorable* photo of Mellan!! I see he has, quite properly, got you completely wrapped around his little dew claw.  😉  The Hairy German says he must remember this trick of gifting people with things that only he can use or properly appreciate.  Genius, Mellan, genius!

My mother passed away when I was two years old. But everyone always tells me that one of the main traits I got from her was her passion for make-up and accessories. And I’m grateful that I took on this trait because I love the passion I have for make-up artistry and developing my skills. My mother loved to wear make-up and she loved bright colours and being experimental. She loved dressing up and primping herself, even if it was just for fun. I am sure we would have exchanged tons of beauty tips if she were alive today. I’m glad, in this specific way, I can say I am my mother’s daughter. 🙂 That is a very important lesson your mother taught you, Christine. 🙂

Puppies with big ol paws are the cutest thing ever, lol. I’m such a sucker for some puppy cuteness. Happy Mother’s Day, Christine. Happy Mother’s Day to all the mommas and doggy mommas out there!

Such a lovely post.  I, too, can relate to being told that there are things I can’t/shouldn’t do because I’m a woman.  I know though that I can and will accomplish whatever I want.  It makes me so happy to see you so successful.  Beauty does come from within and while makeup is fun, every girl should feel happy and confident in who she is.  I love your flowers and I’m glad you had a great Mother’s Day!
