Guerlain Meteorites Illuminating & Mattifying Pressed Powder

Guerlain Teint Rose Meteorites Illuminating & Mattifying Pressed Powder ($56.00 for 0.23 oz.) is designed to provide a fine, lightweight all-over powder that helps to minimize imperfections and enhance the natural glow of the complexion. It also sets and mattifies the skin, which makes it one multi-tasking powder.

Upon trying it, I was a bit bothered by the lightness of the compact–it feels like plastic, and from Guerlain, it’s not what I’d expect. It sounds like plastic when I knock on it, which could account for the lack of weight. On the flip side, because it is not metal or metal-esque, it still has that gunmetal look without the accompanying fingerprints. I’m torn: I love the heft of a good luxe compact, but I love that this stays fingerprint-free. The Meteorites Illuminating Pressed Powders actually come in rather different packaging, which also felt plastic, so perhaps I shouldn’t have been surprised. The ones prior are shimmering and less flesh-toned as they are enhancing (think highlighters). Those go for $65 a pop but come with 0.35 oz. of product.

I tend to get a touch oily around the t-zone after six to eight hours of wearing full makeup, but I was pleased to see that a sheer layer of Rose Teint did wonders and kept me shine-free for twelve hours. It also illuminates in a very soft, refined way; it’s there but so slight that it really does seem like your skin is naturally radiant and aglow. It has a beautifully silky texture that’s so finely milled that it looks more like a pearly finish than anything else.

The sample I received was in Teint Rose, which is actually the lightest shade and ever-so-slightly pink-tinged (but really, it’s so slight, I could hardly tell), while Teint Beige and Teint Dore are darker, though from what I’ve seen, not by much. On me, it seemed virtually colorless and worked well even though it looks rather pale and light. (I think I may pick up Teint Beige, though, to see what that does for me, as I like this one quite a bit.)

  • Product: 30/30
  • Value: 7/10
  • Ease of Use: 4/5
  • Packaging: 4/5

FINAL THOUGHTS: It imparts a natural glow that’s impossible to overdo. It’s soft, demure, and perfect for use all over the face or as a subtle highlighter. This acts much like a setting powder and provides very little coverage, as it applies sheer.

I think us (make up lovers) are all on the same restreint mode at the beginning of this new year! LOL
But I got 150$ gift cards….so I think I’m getting this! Lovely.

How did you feel it did as far as imperfection coverage (I’m thinking pores most specifically)? You always seem to look pore-free, lol, so I’m not sure if you just have teeny pores naturally or if you thought this helped in any drastic way in that regard. I’m always on the hunt, but for the price tag would want something with more than mediocre results.

Oh I’m so glad you liked this product.. I didn’t know what to expect. I ordered it from Nordy’s a couple of days ago since my local counters didn’t have it. I actually ordered Teint Dore.. I’m about NC30-35. Loving Guerlain products lately and I wanna try Lingerie De Peau next.. before I splurge on the Parure Gold foundation. Thoughts on these foundations?

I love their Aqua foundation. No other high end foundation (Dior, Lancome, etc) can compare. The tricky part it to get the correct shade as the range is very limited.

It seems very natural. I think it’s excellent for use during the day, which is great. After all, I do not need another product that I use only occasionally, at parties. I loved it! ^.^

Oh it is gorgeous! I passed on it without trying it in the store today as I thought it wasn’t really special… but now I see I have to spend my money on even more Guerlain. My favorite make up brand!! Always great quality makeup. I am wearing Rouge G lipstick in 71 now, and the blush and I love them <3

I’m glad you reviewed this. I was planning on buying it but now I’m not too sure. I was hoping the case would be similar to the newer version of the Météorites (as I’m really just looking for a very pretty and sturdy compact) but now I don’t know if it would be worth it.

It looks lovely on you though, Christine!

Thank you for reviewing this! I’ve been waiting for your review on it to see if it’s worth the splurge. I guess it is, based on your review, although I’ll have to personally drop by the counter to see if this will work on someone with an NC30-NC35 skintone. Thanks, Christine

Gorgeous Christine! Which one do you like more the other one that you mentioned that’s $65 or this one..which one is more glowy? 🙂 thanks for the review!

I got the Beige and Dore of this. They are super sheer and make fantastic setting powders, but I avoided the Rose because too-light can turn very ashy or flaky on my dry-ish skin. Big gripe about how “cheap” the product feels though compared to Guerlain’s other products, but for how finely milled and nice this is, I think it’s a good value rather than shelling out close to $100 for comparable quality

Seems just lovely. And to be honest, I would love to own this. Pricey, yes, but I usually spend more money on face powder and foundation because that is so important to have a really good base for the rest of your make-up.
So yes, I will fork out the money for this.

Ive been itching for Guerlain but i feel so so guilty spending the money its usually pretty pricey. I think my first purchase will be the meteorites. This compant is amazing!

Hi Christine,

How is this compared to the beads? I am thinking about investing on guerlain. But I don’t know whether this or the beads will be better.

Thanks!

Thanks for your review, Christine.

I went out at lunch today and bought this in Teint Rose. It’s as lovely as you described.

I have mixed feelings about the weight of the compact.

When I read your review, I was glad to hear that the compact wasn’t very heavy, but when I finally opened the package and picked it up, it did feel like it was lacking a little something. It looks like Guerlain, but it doesn’t quite feel like Guerlain! But it means my purse will be a little lighter!

Christine,

This is different from Meteorites Illuminating Pressed Powder – Mythic Parfait right? I thought the illuminating powder just illuminates but doesn’t mattify. I was told these two products are the same thing. I’m a little confused.

I bought this in the medium shade. The lightest shade is quite pale, only for very pale complexions, and the darkest shade I would suggest for anyone with any tan at all. It is incredibly silky and lovely. It’s hard to describe but it is a finishing powder with the slightest glow so it’s OK to put all over the face. I’m very pleased.

How on earth do u end up with the exact same angles and positions to all of your face shots. It’s hard to believe u could do that. It’s almost like u have software to just change all your makeup on the same pictures of yourself:)

Christine Avatar

I’ve had years of practice – it’s really not that hard – because the whole point is to make it easy to compare from shade to shade, so you want the positions to be similar so the lighting is consistent.

Though I don’t know what is so hard to take a picture of your face? There is no difficulty in the photos in this post.

Hmmmmmmm…. *wonders which shade to get*

I love the sound of everything about this, so I’m keen to give it a try but I can’t decide which shade I need…. I go from quite tan to quite pale. X___x
