Guerlain Summer Edition (2015) Meteorites Pearls Review, Photos, Swatches
Guerlain Summer Edition (2015) Meteorites Pearls
Guerlain Summer Edition (2015) Meteorites Pearls ($62.00 for 0.88 oz.) is described as “delicate pastel colors” available exclusively at Nordstrom. According to the brand, it uses “fresh green” for anti-redness, fuchsia to revive, “sunny yellow” for anti-dullness, “pearlescent white” to reflect light, champagne to illuminate, and “rich coral” to enhance. The overall effect is supposed to give “your skin in a pure radiant halo of light while covering your skin in a delicate violet scent.” The back of the container also calls them Rainbow Pearls (rather than Summer Edition), and worth nothing is that they look little like the promotional image.
Whatever the shades, they mix to a pale veil of white-ish powder with lighter gold pearl. I think this one may not work as well as other combinations have for all skin tones, but keep in mind that the skin swatches are rather heavy just to show the product compared to the product applied to the face, where it is used as intended (dusted all over like a finishing powder). This combination seemed to create a more blurred effect with a little shimmer here and there, but it tended to give the skin a smoother appearance without mattifying it as much as traditional loose powder would. For me, the effect of these Meteorites seemed subtler than the usual, and it is already a rather subtle product, so it’s definitely not for everyone. If you’re looking for a more traditional highlighting product, Meteorites are more like brightening or finishing powders that are applied in a more translucent layer, though they can be dabbed on high planes of the face to create a highlighted effect. The latter tends to be more or less impactful depending on the specific shade of Meteorites, and I think this one doesn’t work well for that purpose. The texture seemed slightly chalky to me, but it seemed to last about eight hours (it is harder to really check for wear sometimes with such subtle products but I do my best!).
As you might expect, Meteorites can differ from shade to shade, but there are some that are rather similar. Guerlain Perles du Dragon (LE, $60.00) is more shimmery. Guerlain Perles de Nuit (LE, $60.00) is more shimmery. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

I was expecting a little more warmth. But it’s still pretty.
It’s very pale!
I can’t believe I’m saying this but I think I’m going to pass. *faints*
Meteorites/perles are an HG for me for a finishing powder and I already have backups. If this would have gotten a higher rating, I’d have gone into an indecisive tail spin. 😐
Christine, thank you for your comprehensive and objective reviews. It REALLY came in handy here.
No problem, Pearl! 🙂
Not impressed. The packaging is pretty of course, but why make a “summer” edition that looks so white and chalky-looking? And the shimmer looks so unrefined and scattered, instead of evenly blended in.
I didn’t blend any of the color in the swatch or else it probably would have sheered out and you wouldn’t have seen it, as a FYI!
Oh, I see what you are saying. Well, if you are looking for a very subtle brightening effect, ELF has a dupe of these called Mineral Pearls (the Skin Balancing one in pastel color balls) for $ 8 on website. It doesn’t have any shimmer, is fairly translucent and does brighten the skin a bit. It’s too subtle for me, but others may like – it got good reviews on their website and there’s no fragrance.
Good to know! Thank you for the elf dupe!
I so need this! They seem whiteish more highlighter like, would be good addition to my paradise pearls.
Enjoy ’em, Sacre!
I think this one would be too chalky and whitish on my medium olive complexion. With the darker coral pearls, I really thought this would be ideal for my skin coloring, but perhaps there’s one you could suggest as a good finishing powder within the line that would work well with mine? For reference: I am matched (perfectly!) to either MAC C4.5 Studio Fix Liquid or Tarte Medium Honey.
I worry about it being chalky on some skin tones, as it seems to have a stronger light base! Dore might work, if you are looking at the loose pearls!
Thank you for the info, Christine, I will definitely check that one out, because a finishing powder is one of the rare things I would ever splurge on!
I think this edition is beautiful! I do not have any Guerlain products because I have always thought they were WAY out of my budget, but this appears that it would last a lifetime. I have heavier highlight products if I so desired, but this is light and fresh! I may need/want/need this!!!
Darn that n the past month I just spent $550 at Sephora!!! MAC online got me for $232, and another $160 at UD for their exclusives!! But, I will see if I can make this work into my budget and then it’s “no buy” for me unless something spectacular comes out!!!
The loose pearls will last you a very long time for sure!
Just as an FYI, Nordstrom told me that these Meteorites are not an exclusive, as the Rainbow Pearls are part of Guerlain’s summer 2015ncollection. However at this time I don’t see them available anywhere else!
It’s odd, because they’re not in the press release from Guerlain either — but neither was the Terracotta bronzer!
Thought I’d mention these were released in Canada about a month or so ago and were available at most places Guerlain was sold so I think for the US, it’s a Nordies exclusive?
It’s definitely possible! I believe NARS’ Blame It On NARS collection is available elsewhere (for sure UK), but for U.S. it is Nordstrom only as far as I know!
What amazing timing! I’ve been coming through your archives of other meteorites shades as I’m contemplating my first purchase, but couldn’t decide on a color (I’m anywhere from NC30 to NC37 in the summer). 04 Dore seem to pink and I was afraid 02 Clair was too light, but these rainbow pearls seem like a nice balance of the two! Great review as always 🙂
Thanks, BW!
Totally love this one!
Happy to hear it, Lisa! 🙂
I was just considering getting these. I think I will, I’ve been wanting to try makeup pearls since I was a child, and these look nice.
Keep us posted, Paz!
I like it! I wish I’d picked up the Nacre ones from a few years ago!
Aww!
You know, when I read this blog, one of the first things that pops into my mind is a reader the product would look good on (based on the photos…) You popped into my head instantly for these pearls. Go for it! I’ve only got the original + an old beige, not in frequent rotation. I regret not getting Wulong.
Want to thank Christine for answering reader queries with her inestimable opinions. Many bloggers don’t bother. It takes a lot of work to revisit your writing and interact with your followers. We all appreciate that.
It is really my pleasure — the best part is the interaction!
I own two of the original Meteorites Pearls in 01 & 03, fair and medium. I love the finish they add to my skin. They make my pores invisible and my skin glow. It’s barely visible in some lights but gives a natural glow in daylight and other lights. I don’t see much difference in the two colors applied and it seems the new products are similar. They do last forever. I also use the brush sold as the companion.
I will pass on these for now as I probably have and 18 month supply now.
They are lovely, but they do start to run together if you have more than a few!
It is almost translucent – pretty but I am not sure that it is necessary.
Definitely not necessary!
This was actually the only thing I felt drawn to order from the sale…I have and adore the Perles d’Etoiles from last year’s holiday collection and wanted a more subtle option (I’m really fair so the Perles d’Etoiles are crazy glowy on me, but I love them). Hopefully these will be just what I was looking for!
It sounds like it might be just up your alley, Kylee!
I got these. I also have the permanent meteorites in Clair and medium to compare. Mine came pretty ground up and look like the tin I have had over a year. Not sure what happened.so basically I have been using the dust off the pouf. I like them. But, honestly, I can’t tell much of a difference between these and the others that I have once on. They all look the same to me. Now, I’ve never had the pleasure of using the perles to Dragon,or Perles de nuit. Those are gorgeous- I’d want those for the packaging alone! Lol.
I hear ya, Nicole! Some of them look a little different, but many of them look the same once on!
Do these give flashback in photographs? And I’ve been hearing ones from the permanent range isn’t that great as the earlier ones. I think I want at least one of these in my life but I’ll wait for an A+
No flashback for me! 🙂
I really wanted these as my first Meteorites, but passed on them and now I’m glad I did! They’re not that amazing, do not look like the “rainbow perles” in the promo pic at ALL, and definitely I need to just get one of the original Meteorites instead in the future! Which is your very favorite and most recommended out of all the Meteorites for light to medium skin Christine?
I find I like Mythic in the pressed version the most – I have always been more of a pressed gal than the pearls. But 03 would be my loose pearl pick!
I wish it had more yellow in it…Too blue for my Indian skin 🙁
The finish looks amazing though!!! Love it on you Christine 🙂
Thank you, Ramya!
I think once you own a few of these you don’t need to get anymore because they tend to be indistinguishable on.
I’m with you, Jill! Many of them are too similar.
Sorry if I missed this, but these look exactly like the Rainbow Pearls released a few months back? I know you said above that they are labelled as Rainbow Pearls, so I am assuming that it is indeed the same thing?
Thanks! 🙂
Do you where they were released?
Sorry, I didn’t realize they were not released in the US! Rainbow Pearls were released in Australia (where I got mine) about 2 months ago, and they were released around Europe before that i believe? At least I saw them all over Instagram. 🙂
I’m actually very excited at this! I ended up getting the pressed Meteorites Voyage Pressed Powder a while ago and it pulls so PINK on me. The green bits barely give any coverage and the bronzy-pink bits show up very vividly. I should have returned it, but the finish is so lovely. I may have to look into this since it seems more stark.
Let me know if this works for you!
So I finally gonna try these after debating for ever! I can’t decide between the shades. I’m very very pale, (NW10 in studio fix fluid) could you recommend a shade, Christine?
I think this one could work for you! Clair would also work.
I’m kinda disappointed in the rainbow pearls. I just received mine from Nordstrom today and a nice amount of them were reduced to fine loose powder. And the pouf is so loaded down with product that it looks dirty. Definitely get these in-store as opposed to shipped because they had no chance with one balled up sheet of butchers paper instead of bubble-wrap. As far as the actual product….the shimmer borders almost glitter IMO when heavily swatched on arm. It definitely lends a champagne/white tone against my NC45 skintone. I don’t know about this one. Big test comes when I apply it to my face. We shall see. Thank you for the review Christine and I wish I would’ve saw it first before taking the plunge.
Oh no! You should let them know they didn’t do well in transit 🙁
I most certainly did Christine. Have yet to hear back from CS. On my NC45 skintone the Rainbow pearls pulled too frosty white on me so today I pulled the white pearls out and applied….it made a HUGE difference in outcome. I would have to consider this one a neutral finishing powder while Dore works as my brightener and Holiday 2014 Meteorites warms up my skin. Curious to see what they come out with for the holidays as I think I’m pretty much set for life with what I have thus far.lol
lol! Thank you so much for the follow-up Shelley!!
It looks like I would love this one…..but when are they going to begin selling the highlighter one with stars and the pearls?? I need it in my life…now.
