Guerlain Samsara (124) Rouge Automatique Lipstick

Guerlain Samsara (124) Rouge Automatique Lipstick ($35.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a berry-kissed medium-dark red with ruby red micro-shimmer. There’s the faintest hint of a cool undertone, but compared to more obviously blue-toned lipsticks, it almost appears orange-toned! The color coverage is mostly opaque with little product needed for the results seen in the swatch. It does have some resemblance to Guerlain Vega, but this almost looks orange in contrast, and it’s a bit darker and definitely not as bright. Guerlain L’Heure Bleue looks more like a berry-red in comparison. Giorgio Armani #406 is similar but has little to no shimmer. MAC Prolong is a touch brighter.

Guerlain’s Rouge Automatique is a fabulous formula–it’s long-wearing, comfortable, lightweight, and always seems to make lips look better: more luscious and luminous.  Some of the lighter shades only wear for four to five hours, but richer shades like Samsara easily wear for six hours, up to eight, from my experience with the formula.  The texture is lightweight, creamy enough to glide easily across lips, but it doesn’t slip around once applied.  For more packaging photos, please see this post.

Boy, you’re not kidding about the formula of this lipstick, Christine. I finally bit the bullet and purchased Samsara, and it does glide on. Absolutely lovely. I compared it to one of my $15 lipsticks, and the difference is astounding. WoW! Again, the saying ‘you get what you pay for’ applies!

So beautiful! It looks the colour of tomato soup on you <3. Anyway, what are you trying to do to me, Christine? I can't give Guerlain any more of my money right now. 🙁

Hi Christine, is this, or any of the other deep red Rouge Automatiques that you’ve reviewed recently, anything like MAC So Scarlet? I’ve lost my So Scarlet (my favourite ever red) and I’m devastated! Guerlain Samsara is also my favourite perfume, so it would be lovely if this turned out to be a dupe for So Scarlet! Thanks for your help 🙂 xxx

Christine, I hope you can answer –
I am nw15/20, quite pale with slight pink undertones (n1 in face in body)
and I am looking for a Rouge Automatique that would flatter my complexion from the reddish shades –
I was thinking of Coque D’or or Vega,
but I would love to hear your suggestions.
Thanks!
