Guerlain Nuit d'Amour Rouge Automatique Review, Photos, Swatches
Guerlain Nuit d’Amour Rouge Automatique
Guerlain Holiday 2011: Nuit d’Amour Rouge Automatique
Guerlain Nuit d’Amour (170) Rouge Automatique ($35.00 for 0.12 oz.) is described as a “black red that reveals an intense plum color.” It’s definitely a shade that will intimidate at glance; it looks burgundy-brown-black with twinkles of ruby shimmer in the tube, but it’s so, so different when swatched or worn. The description sounds like they did this deliberately (“reveals”). It’s reddish-pink burgundy with hints of plum and ruby micro-shimmer. Even though the shimmer is there, it’s so fine and sparse that it’s rather subtle. MAC Rebel is redder and brighter. Guerlain Bee looks quite similar on, but it has less red in it (and more opacity). YSL Forbidden Burgundy is a little brighter and redder but still rather similar.
The formula felt creamier than a lot of other Rouge Automatiques I’ve tried; it glides on effortlessly, but it has more of a stained look when worn, so it does look uneven in places and settles into lip lines. I didn’t have any problems with the color bleeding, though, and I wore it for six hours before removing (it held up quite well over that time period, too). It has a light violet scent but no taste, and it’s moisturizing without being too slippery. Both the unevenness/settling are more minor than major, because they’re not noticeable from afar (well, a normal viewing distance, rather than close-up and larger-than-life)–as seen here.
Generally, Rouge Automatiques are comparable to the Rouge G lipstick, though not as thick or as opaque but still similar enough. They’re $11 cheaper than the Rouge Gs, and the colors still have the same depth and nuanced shade range that makes Guerlain lipstick always standout to me. This particular shade and its formula seemed more like the Rouge G Brilliants, though. To see more photos of the packaging, check out this post. I did find the slider on this particular shade to be on the stiffer side.

Must have it, I love the stained look! Rouge Automatiques are my favorite lipstick (I haven’t made the Rouge G plunge yet) so the more finishes/colors I have the better!
I don’t think I could bring myself to pay $35.00 for a lipstick, but the color is gorgeous!
This make-up look is so classy on you! You make me want to actually buy Guerlain more than their actual ads :P.
aww, lovely color, too bad it’s uneven
Christine! you look absolutely perfect!!! beautiful! what is your foundation you are wearing?
x x
woops just saw the name of your foundation- Guerlain Lingerie de Peau Foundation.
🙂
When I saw the lipstick itself before the jump I thought this would be awful but it’s really beautiful on you.
I really like this overall look on you — very pretty!
Oh, that’s pretty! But I think I’ll stick to Rebel – $35.. sigh.
I love how it looks, it is dark but due to the stained look, comfortably wearable for me. Lovely colour, especially on you. It is amazing how you can pull off so many colours!
I thought it would actually be darker–that is gorgeous!!
How lovely! Gorgeous. And the whole look you sport in these pics is just to die for. 🙂
I feel in love with this in your Guerlain look- it’s my favorite type of lip look!
Your eye makeup looks amazing here. I love how brown eyes look against blue/silver eyeshadow. So many people with brown eyes think they’re boring, but I find them enchanting.
You look fabulous. Do you usually pair a strong lip with a bold eye like this, in everyday or going-out looks? I can’t do it without looking like Pretty Woman. 🙁
This is a great color for you!
How similar is this colour to Rouge G Gigolo (70)? I’m looking for a darker berry sort of colour and I’m just wondering if I could get a word in from you before I compare them in store. I can’t wait until October. 🙂
It’s darker!
I just ordered this one and I can’t wait to receive it! I’ve always had a thing for the “berry stained” look. It’s so perfect for Fall!
Wow, this one is real nice, how do you think this compares to my fave Bee? Also, how does the formula compare to Rouge Gs in your opinion? I mean Rouge G is like the HG of lipsticks to me as far as the formula goes. The make-up artist at the counter told me that she really loves the colors of RA but if you have used Rouge G, nothing beats that as far as the formula goes. Just thought I would ask your opinion. Again, another awesome color on you but is there any lip color that does not look good on you?:)))
Oh, ok sorry, fast fingers; I see you have already answered a lot of my questions above:)))
