Guerlain Moyen Brunettes (05) Terracotta Four Seasons Bronzer Review, Photos, Swatches

Guerlain Moyen Brunettes (05) Terracotta Four Seasons Bronzer

Guerlain Moyen Brunettes (05) Terracotta Four Seasons Bronzer ($75.00 for 0.35 oz.) is medium-dark tan brown with warm undertones and a mate finish. It is the second darkest shade of the Terracotta range (Ebony #08 is the darkest). Burberry Summer Glow is lighter, more yellow. Urban Decay Toasted is darker, redder-toned. MAC Tan Tint is similar but a cream product.

The Four Seasons bronzer range contains “four wonderfully matte shades to blend together to match every desire,s kin, or season for an authentic tan.” The idea is that you can blend the shades together, as needed, for as much bronze as you desire in a particular moment. The powder is soft, velvety smooth, and finely-milled–but not at all powdery–and it blends fairly well. The color payoff is very true-to-pan, and depending on which shades you emphasize, it can be lighter or darker, but it is nicely pigmented so if you are light to light-medium, I’d recommend using a light hand initially.  Moyen Brunettes lasted eight hours when I tried it, and there was no fading or patchiness at that point. I think this is best suited for true medium to dark complexions with warm and olive undertones–it has a reddish-tan undertone that should work well for these skin tones.  I love the texture, payoff, and wear of this bronzer–but it’s definitely not the right shade for my complexion and would look better on someone else!

I purchased the Nude version ( 00 ) and found it very pretty, I love it. I fear the others would be too orange for my skin, the Nude is clearly perfect for pale skins. I love the packaging too, classy ! The price is 56 € here, well it’s much more pricey than the regular Terracotta but to me it’s worth the price as the powder is really wearable every day in every season !

Too dark, too warm, too orange. The story of my every experience with bronzer. 😛 It’s a beautiful product, though. Guerlain does some amazing face powder.

They have I think eight or nine shades in total, and four are lighter than this. I’m super-pale (at most I’m NW15) and I have 03 – Naturel Brunettes, and it looks fantastic on me. If you have a local guerlain counter it might still be worth a drop in to talk to the SA about which one would be right for you.

That’s good to hear. I’m usually an NC10, but summer will generally shift me into NC15 if I get enough sun. Usually the bigger problem is getting the undertone right. I’ll have to give the Guerlain counter a look the next time I’m out. 🙂

I’m an NW15 and I have 03, Naturel Brunettes. It’s really, really lovely. If your undertones are different you might be better suited to another shade, though.

I’m still not sure why companies make bronzers for those of us with medium to dark skin tones. We don’t really need it . . . do we?

xamyx Avatar

It can add dimension, even if you don’t want to “change” the color of your skin. It’s the same premise when we pale people use a matte highlighter.

Yes Sandy, medium and chocolate Queens wear bronzers. Like all makeup, it’s a matter of choice as to whether you ” really need” it. Like Xamyx indicated, it adds dimension. I am NC 55 and bronzers love my skin – high brow: Guerlain and drug store brand: Cover Girl Queen collection. Try it this summer. 🙂

I purchased 03 after trying out 02,03 and 04. I am between MAC NC 20-25 and 03 matches me perfectly. I found the ones which are called “blondes” looked orangey on me, so I got the lightest shade of brunettes 🙂

Hi Christine,
Maybe a stupid question…but did you use this all over your face? In your pic, you look a little more tan than usual. I think it looks really good on you BTW, especially with that eye look and lip color. But I know pics can be deceiving. I am a very fair red head and I just get so tired of being pale all the time. I was just wondering if this could be used all over the face and neck. Obviously in my case, not in this color but in the lighter one.

Christine Avatar

Just on the cheeks here 🙂 I usually look tanner when I wear a lot of green/coral together (not sure why, just seems to bring out the yellow in my skin tone, I suppose)!

With a lighter shade, yes, absolutely – bronzer can be used as much/as little as desired!

The Guerlain Terracotta range just has so maby bronzing product that I don’t know what should be chosen. Guerlain seems to be be very good at produce nin-pore emphasizing shimmer products.

As for 4 seasons, which of the shades would you recommend for slightly yellow toned NC20-25 skin? My skin don’t take MAC skinfinish well, ut seems that it turns so orange for me.
And how about the 00 nude shade, is that morecof a blush shade on NC25? I really wush to oicj a contour product by Guerlain, otherwise, I have to gi to Estee Lauder’s vronzing Goddess range.

Thx Joanna!I guess 00 nude would be too light for a contour shade for me now.

Christine, would it will be possible for you to kindly give us a brief idea also about the respective position of the terracotta products in future reviews? At least will there be additional advice of the product is a contour/ overall face powder/ shimmery bronzer? I mean, I can’t spot the difference among the followings:
-Terra Ora
-Terra Nerolia
-Terracotta Bronzing Powder
-Terracotta Light
-Terracotta Four Seasons Bronzer
-previously released Guerlain Terra Soleia Tan Enchancing Bronzer Face and Décolleté
-previously released Terracotta Mineral Loose Powder

Thx a lot for your redply as always.

Hi Gladys,

I think I’ve only tried the Bronzing Powder and the Four Seasons Bronzer, both which I like but rarely use – I don’t use bronzer very often. I have a couple of the self-tanning kind of products but haven’t used them (again, it’s a category of products I just don’t use – I don’t desire to alter my skin color, so I have a whole mental block on it).

Gladys L. Avatar

I see, you reminded me of what I read about you previously saying that you don’t use bronzing product that much.

Is it a weird concept to do contouring with bronzing powder (I don’t have MAC Pro or Kevyn Aucoin here, and I don’t want to use cream product like Tom Ford’s Shade & Illuminate, furthermore, MAC’s bronzing powder is super shimmery to my dislike)?

Christine Avatar

A lot of people like bronzers as contours! I think it just depends on the shade. Personally (so this is just my opinion and what I use), I opt for more shadowy colors, so ones that have some gray or coolness to them, since contouring is about adding shadows and I find bronzers are often too warm! Honestly, you can just use darker foundation or concealer – a concealer stick a couple of shades darker will look really natural.

STUNNING. OH MY GOSH. The one with the red is my favorite but all these are just completely swoon-worthy to me. And that’s becoming harder and harder to do, considering I’m reading/blogging/thinking about beauty products like 50% of my life haha
