Guerlain Fall 2012: Les Fauves L’Ecrin 4 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette

Guerlain Les Fauves L’Ecrin 4 Couleurs Eyeshadow Palette ($59.00 for 0.25 oz.) is new (and permanent!) for fall and will debut at Guerlain counters and retailers in August (though I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw it pop up in the next week or two). This is a very warm-toned palette with distinct orange/red undertones. The one thing I’ve noticed across fall palettes this season is that the colors within them are very similar to each other.

The shade on the left is a medium-dark copper-shimmered red-toned brown with a soft frosted finish. It had excellent pigmentation with a soft, almost buttery texture. Tom Ford Ilicit is redder. NARS Surabaya is a little darker and more red-toned. Make Up For Ever #14 is darker, browner. theBalm Tres Moi is very similar, slightly less warm-toned. MAC Antiqued is almost a dead-ringer except its finish is slightly more metallic.

Next, there is a medium brown with strong orange-red undertones with a mostly matte finish. It was soft to the touch and had great pigmentation. MAC Soft Brown is lighter, more subdued. MAC Brown Script is darker, less orange.

Below that shade is a warm orange with hints of red and coral and a mostly matte finish. This shade had nice color payoff, but it was a little powdery. MAC Neo Orange is brighter but similar. Make Up For Ever #5 is very comparable.

The final shade on the right-hand side of the palette is a warm-toned light-medium copper with a champagne sheen–very metallic in finish. It had a soft, smooth texture with good pigmentation. Bobbi Brown Champagne Truffle is browner. MAC Love Connection is also browner. MAC Rusty is similar but darker. Urban Decay Chopper is more copper. Wet ‘n’ Wild Dancing in the Clouds is similar, slightly more orange-brown. Urban Decay Blaze is less coppery.

When I was on vacation last week, I took this palette along and wore the coral, medium brown, and light-medium copper shades together.  The colors wore without fading or creasing for a full ten hours, both over and without a primer–quite impressive.  Three of the four shades had beautiful textures and superb pigmentation; the only shade that was mildly disappointing was the coral shade, which was a little powdery.  The palette is housed in a gold-tinted metal compact (lovely and sturdy to hold, but it does show fingerprints) and contains a full-sized mirror and sponge-tipped applicator inside.  It has a good amount of product, too; a full-sized eyeshadow is typically around 0.05 oz., and each of these is just over 0.06 oz.

WOW.  OMG, I have never wanted a Guerlain pallet so much in my life.  Thank god next month is my birthday and I know exactly what I am going to buy.  The colours are just so lovely <3  Thanks for the review!!!

I’m a big fan of Guerlain quads in general and I’m thinking this one may be a great addition to my collection. Although I lean a bit cooler, I love warm browns, coppers and oranges against my blue eyes.

wwendalynne Avatar

@Kate MacDonald Absolutely and you frequently see in magazine editorials and runway warm colours on cooler complexed girls with blue eyes because it do wonders from making eyes look incredibly blue.  I think I would actually rather see this palette on a cool complexion because overall there is just so much warmth, it’s almost too much.  I like to see more variation in a palette personally.

I can’t decide whether this would look lovely or hideous on my blue eyes and very cool, pale skin tone!

It looks lovely on you in the picture Christine – did you like the colour combination?

I love this palette and it’s kinda on my wish list, but I’m not 100% sold on it.. There’s too much red and orange with all the shades together and I already have Surbaya by Nars which in a close dupe which I use frequently with other cooler colours.  I did an orange/purple look a few weeks back that we really pretty.  I also love Christine’s look, but she is ever so slightly darker and warmer than I so this just may be a waste of money for me.  I will have to see what other damage I will be doing with the rest of collection and other fall picks first.

@wwendalynne  It’s too red and orange for me, too. I don’t think I could pull this off at all. In fact, I fear the more red-coral colour would make me look as though my eyelids were swollen and I’d been crying. From photos I’ve seen of you, I think the colours (with the exception of the dark bronze) would be iffy with your skin tone and colouring. Christine is lucky in that, not only is she extremely photogenic, but so, SO many things look good on her. In all this time, I’ve only seen two things that really were horrid on her: NARS’ brick Liberté blush and some thick yellowed-white-nude lipstick from MAC.  (Sorry, Christine. lol)

@wwendalynne  LOLOLOLOL!!! I snorted out loud, literally, at that. Sometimes, here, when I go back to a post and see typos that I’ve made, either in haste or carelessness, it irritates for hours on end! Type-A neurotics, unite! 😉

@GailFHendley Look at it as an investment. They break down to around $15 USD apiece, same as. MAC single, but if they’re colors you’ll make use of, then it’ll be worth it.

This palette is beautiful in every way! Wish I had the money to spend for Guerlain products! I can see so many people these eyeshadow colors would compliment!

annedreshfield Avatar

I adore the look you did, Christine! I’m afraid it might not come out as well on me, though…I’m fairer than you, and acne-prone, so too much red just looks bad on me and draws attention to the blemishes! Seriously annoying, especially when I see looks like these. But…I have blue eyes, so maybe it would look great!

lucklesscinnamon Avatar

The texture and pigmentation are amazing. I don’t think these colours would work for me, but they’re going to look amazing on somebody!

maureenmojen Avatar

I’m in loooove with this palette but I just don’t have that kind of money (damn you student loans!). Maybe I’ll get lucky and some relevant discount will appear…somewhere.

AmiAlger Avatar

Gorgeous palette, but I keep myself off of it by repeating a mantra of  “it’s the eyeliner making this look so amazing.”  May that mantra stick w/ me. & maybe I buy Spark of Envy, yes?

hwendy Avatar

I was just thinking not to get any more eyeshadow palette this year as I have more then enough for all life long!! but now I think I need this one too. 🙁

Please help me. I’m feeling borderline, lol! Last week in your looks you listed Spark of Envy as on your lower lashline which is a teal/green color BUT last week it looked purple! All week long. Today you have it on again and it looks like the teal/green it’s listed as on Tarina Tarantino site. How is this possible???  I posted last week asking you, then joined your fb page to see if I could ask you so this is my 3rd attempt, request, before I think I’m going nutso.

Please could you help me? Answer me? The purple color of last weeks looks on your lower lashline I’ve been looking for for a long time. Thankyou so much!

 @Christine (Temptalia)
Ohhh THANKYOU! It’s very late tonight so I will look it up tomorrow. I know it’s been thru the Nars Blush reviews most recently last weeks. A few gorgeous looks that you’ve truly inspired me on. I so new to all of this, maybe last weeks post never posted? Okay, until I find it for you.

Hi Kiki!

I looked through some of the posts from last week, and I think it’s this:

Make Up For Ever #26 Aqua Cream, Tarina Tarantino Spark of Envy Eyeliner

I used Make Up For Ever #26 on the lower lash line and Spark of Envy on the waterline/just slightly over the water line. #26 is purple 🙂

 @Christine (Temptalia)
Good Morning!!! Well I typed this long post to you and just lost it. I found a link before knowing you’d answered me again also, lol! Here’s the link…

So the purple here is Aqua #26. Wow! I kept getting confused as Spark of Envy followed MakeUp Forevers #26. I not very familiar with that line. In fact, what I’ve learned about other companies outside of bareMinerals is largely due to your daily posts! I’ve been a BE gal even long before Leslie came along. Thanks to you I can now better navigate Sephora & Ultas, hahaha. I actually own new makeup from other companies that I’m really excited about. I even dared to buy Naked 1 and love the 24/7’s of UD. I have easily 600 loose BE eyecolors so it’s a big deal to buy other companies to me, lol…{yes I’m in love with our new Ready line too!}  All thanks to your posts every day! They have taught me so much I’m so happy to be able to thankyou {sort of in person} for all that you do!!! Thankyou! I’ve put #26 on my Sephora list!

Christine-Temptalia Avatar

Sephora/Ulta/etc. can be overwhelming if you’ve never been acquainted with the brands!  Even when you are, sometimes going to the store can be intimidating!

600!! Wow 🙂 You are a long time collector!
