Guerlain Guet-Apens (167) Rouge Automatique Lipstick

Guerlain Guet-Apens (167) Rouge Automatique Lipstick ($35.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a reddened berry with soft raspberry red shimmer. The color coverage is semi-opaque, but it doesn’t give the most even coverage. Guerlain L’Heure Bleue is redder. Dior Nocturne is redder and has gold shimmer. Dior Technicolor Red is redder and brighter. Guerlain Nuit d’Amour is a bit darker. MAC Rebel is a bit redder and more opaque.

I wish the color applied more evenly!  Guet-Apens has the right color coverage–not totally opaque, a little translucent–for the formula, but it doesn’t want to cover evenly, which is a major bummer.  It still felt lovely going on; creamy enough to glide over lips without being slippery.  Once on, it felt lightweight and wore for four and a half hours and left behind a very subtle stain.  For more packaging photos, please see this post.

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

oooh that is such a pretty color on you, christine. we have similar skintones so what works well on you tends to work well on me. i’ll have to check this one out.

hmm I have this shade and don’t have the unevenness issue at all! i wore it all of fall 2011. While we’re talking guerlain, do you know if shine automatique launches soon? I was hoping to snag some with the 15% off coupon they sent out.

Beautiful color, but a $35 lippie must score an A in order for me to consider buying it. 🙂 Thanks, Christine. This was on my Sephora shopping list. You just saved me $35!

I was just wondering why don’t you post all of these Guerlain lipstick reviews in the same post? They all seem to get about the same grade and are posted pretty frequently.

I test out each shade individually so that I can give you feedback and a review on a specific shade 🙂 I don’t photograph, swatch, or test them all at the same time. They can’t be that frequent – given that it’s taken me over a year to review as many as I have, LOL! I know I am terribly slow.

I have this color and experienced the same findings in your discussion. Although I love the color and the moisture quality, it doesn’t seem it wants to cover “opaguely” (sp?). I think it has the slip that is characterized in the YSL formula. This was my 1st RA but ready to gamble on others, such as Nahema or Chamade or #165!

Gorgeous shade but I picked up Nocturne on sale last week and already have half a dozen Automatiques that I ADORE so it’s a shame this one isn’t up to par… We only got about 10 shades in a few select stores in NZ and I doubt this is one of them.

Oh well.
