The formula is supposed to be a liquid lipstick that has a matte finish with “long-lasting intense color” that “keeps [lips] moisturized.” It is, in many ways, similar to the liquid lipsticks that we have seen often in the last year, but the formula on this shade doesn’t fully dry down and has more of a “soft matte” finish than a really flat matte finish that most liquid lipsticks have. When I pressed my lips together, they stuck slightly, but the color didn’t lift away in patches. It wore for eight hours and was comfortable to wear–I hardly noticed I was wearing a lip color–and it doesn’t emphasize lip lines like some liquid matte lipsticks can. The formula has a sweet floral scent to it but no discernible taste.

Nice. How dryness level on this one?
Not drying at all!
Oh No! that makes me want it! 🙂
Thanks for your review Christine, I was so curious about the finish of this. The color is really pretty, and I just love this overall look on you, especially the blush!
No problem, Tiffany! 🙂
I really wanted it….
Oh no! 🙁
I was really impressed with this one. Guerlain’s target demographic is the older, more mature woman; the woman for whom conventional matte lipsticks are quite a problem. As we get older, our lips become thinner, drier, and the lines become more prominent. I have some gorgoeus matte lipsticks, but I must always, always apply them over a balm and cannot wear them more than one day; ditto for the so-called long wear formulas. They are inherently drying even though the advertising hype always promises that they aren’t 🙁 So, it was with a certain amount of trepidation that I gave this one by Guerlain a try, but after a day of wearing it, I must say it is brilliant! It’s a beautiful color, it doesn’t exaggerate my lip lines, it has a soft sheen which is much more flattering on us older ladies than is a true matte, and most importantly, it doesn’t leave my lips feeling dry at the end of the day. For evening, I top it with the new “holographic” gloss that came with the collection and it is simply stunning.
I’m happy to hear this is working so well for you, Eileen!
Hi Christine,
I’m hesitating badly about this one and the rouge G !
I’m thinking maybe i would jump “finally” in the matte trend with this one ! It doesn’t look like those flat matte lipsticks.
But I’m also telling myself that if I really want matte lips, maybe I can just mattify any lipsticks with a light touch of powder ? (Never tried yet, cause I wasn’t interested in matte lips until seen this one).
Is it brighter or darker compared to the rouge G ?
I like the rouge Gs in general, it’s for me the best lipstick formula with the Dior Addict Extreme. It would be a safe choice.
So difficult to decide now ! They are both great in your reviews. Lol !
(Btw, there are a dot on top middle of any meteorite ball’s lid. It’s a pity that they produced them by attaching them or filling in there. But I’m still going to get it, with the eye and cheek palette.
I’m checking reviews about the nail polishes too.
Omg, Guerlain got me this year !)
I’d certainly try patting powder over a lipstick before buying a matte finish!
Wow, this is very pretty, looks like an easy MLBB color to wear. I have the MUFE dupe already, but if I run out, this would be a good option
It is an easy color to wear!
Hi Christine!
How does this formula compare with their ‘Rouge G l’Extrait’? By the way, that color looks lovely on you!
It dries down very differently!
This kind of formula and finish is right up my alley! I dislike the other ultra matte finishes. They look terribly dry on the lips, but this satiny, semi-matte looks comfortable and doesn’t make your lips look like a desert. LOL I hope you’ll be doing more reviews of different shades, Christine! Beautiful as always.
As far as I know, this is the only shade? At least, that is all Guerlain has provided as far as info goes!
Ooooh, sounds very pleasant to wear! And I love the color and finish.
It was!
I think it’s very pretty (although it seems quite dupable)! I like that it doesn’t look flat, but it’s still fairly matte.
It is quite matte, just not that super flat matte!
8 hours and non-drying have me wanting to try this one! Plus the fact that it actually LOOKS comfortable and not dry and overly matte. The color itself is so beautiful, like something I would love to wear in spring and summer.
It was surprisingly comfortable to wear!
What a beautiful shade! Very flattering.
The color is nice!
Pretty!! Sounds nice. I wonder if every brand will have liquid matte lipsticks within the next year! 😉
lol!
Oh no I LOVE this finish!
Poor wallet!
Oh, this looks lovely! Is it very close in colour to the Rouge G?
I noticed that you’re wearing the new eye tints on your eyes – can I say that I’m totally excited for your pics and swatches?!?!?!?!!!!

Wow, it doesn’t look drying at all, and that color is lovely! Also loving the finish!
I was surprised!
This is really pretty!
It is!
FYI, backordered at Nordstrom grrrr… so I just got it from the bloomingdales website! Apparently the only other place I could find it.
I bought this last week and adore it! It is an unusual color for a fall launch but all their colors in this collection are. This is so comfortable on the lips! I also picked up that gourgeous new Rouge G.
It is! I’m so glad to hear from others who have tried it!
This formula sounds really nice and moisturizing for a matte liquid lipstick. I’m cool with it being less matte in exhange for less drying. Love that it doesn’t emphasize lip texture too.
It really was nice to wear!
I have MJ Infamous but I still really want this too…greedy greedy lipstick lady!! This whole look on you tho …beautiful!!!!
Thank you, Bonnie!
Wow this is really lovely! I love the way it dries out.
I was surprised that it didn’t lift color away since it wasn’t 100% dry!
This is a nice approach to liquid-mattes! Although I love my super dry and matte finishes, I am intrigued by the idea of a comfortable and moisturizing but long-lasting liquid matte (albeit semi-matte) lipstick. If this wasn’t so expensive I’d give it a whirl! If only…
Hopefully other companies will do their version of it!
Chatting with a SA she confirmed this is the same M72 from the old Rouge G mat liquid lipsticks. They have changed the forum so its not so mat and taken the Rouge G packaging away. I own the original and thought that looks so familiar???
Also found out from same SA as she actually wears it, the Holiday Rouge G is Georgia from the normal Rouge G range, again I already own it. No idea why Guerlain took a current colour put it in a special Holiday packaging and gave it a new name as a limited edition. They could have just repackaged Georgia in the limited packaging.
Georgia is totally different on me! http://www.temptalia.com/side-by-side?sbs_1_search=Georgia&sbs_1=101505&sbs_2_search=Merveilleux+Rose+%28867%29&sbs_2=210582
Nice 😀 If only I had the money.
Sometimes window shopping is just as fun 🙂
The formula sound like a hybrid of the Sephora creme lip stain and toofaced melted. Have you tried anything else like this formula Christine?
Not that I can recall, because it mostly dries down… but not fully. Usually things that don’t dry down transfer a lot, but this doesn’t transfer.
I love the finish on this. Just how I like my matte shades to look. The formula sounds like a dream!
Yay!
This is a beautiful color that really brings out the radiance of your complexion! The packaging looks a little 90s to me, though. I look forward to trying this formula!
I could see how the packaging might look dated!
I really like this, very pretty. Goes on the wishlist. I can see me getting a lot of use out of this, really nice colour. A big want, doesn’t happen that ofthe for the more “wearable” lip products, I love bold lips, but it’s always fun with change.
It was a surprise hit – I really didn’t think much of it when I got it, lol!
I realize to anyone that’s not a makeup person this will sound so insane but I know anyone here will get it 🙂 I complimented you the day this came out bc I freaking love your look! I already ordered the maxi velvet but the look has stayed in my head especially the blush. I went through my old emails until I found the right one then started stalking EVERYWHERE for Nars Blasphemy blush. I was heartbroken thinking it must be a LE I missed. I didn’t want to bug you but was resigned to asking about it when DUH I remembered this year’s Klein collab…..I swear I held my breath!!! I found it finally!!!!! I don’t even remember what else is in it but I REALLY hope blasphemy ( the blush ) looks half that good on me!!! Thank you for inspiring my quest lol
YAY! I am so glad you figured it out 🙂 I think you will like it, Bonnie!
Does it transfer? I’ve been on the lookout for a lovely liquid lipstick that doesn’t transfer like crazy even when it had dried that’s available here in Japan.
Not that I can recall!
Wow, that’s gorgeous!
It is!
