Guerlain Blackjack & Khaki Driver Kohl Contour Eye Pencil Review, Photos, Swatches
Guerlain Blackjack Kohl Contour Eye Pencil
Guerlain Kohl Contour Eye Pencil ($31.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a new formula launching this spring, which will be available in five shades. I tried two of the five, which are reviewed below. The formula is supposed to be long-wearing, water-resistant, creamy, and pigmented. This pencil will need to be sharpened and includes one with the pencil. They’re an average eyeliner; not bad, not ground-breaking–the wear is decent but pigmentation could be better. The texture is a cross between creamy and waxy, so they glide well but still deposit even, smooth color without a lot of work.
Guerlain Blackjack Kohl Contour Eye Pencil ($31.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a medium-dark black with a semi-matte finish. It had semi-opaque color coverage and lasted for eight hours on me. The consistency was creamy and smooth enough to glide on easily. ColourPop Swerve (P, $7.00) is cooler (95% similar). Guerlain Black Jack (01) (P, $30.00) is darker (95% similar). ColourPop Swerve (P, $7.00) is less shimmery, darker, less glossy (95% similar). Make Up For Ever M10 Matte Black (PiP, ) is darker, less glossy (90% similar). bareMinerals Absolute Black (PiP, $16.00) is warmer (90% similar). Haus Labs Punk (P, $18.00) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). Urban Decay Perversion (P, $22.00) is darker (90% similar). Make Up For Ever M10 Matte Black (P, $21.00) is darker (90% similar). Guerlain Khaki Driver Kohl Contour Eye Pencil ($31.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a slightly muted, medium-dark olive green with warm undertones and fine gold sparkle. It had semi-sheer color payoff in one pass, which was buildable to fully opaque color with three layers (this one is best applied in back-and-forth motions). The texture was smooth, creamy, and didn’t tug at the lash line. It lasted for seven and a half hours on me. Charlotte Tilbury Green Lights (Metallic) (PiP, ) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). MAC Army Style (P, $17.00) is less shimmery, darker, warmer (85% similar). MAC Forever Green (P, $16.00) is darker, warmer (85% similar). Sephora Roof Top Party (DC, $10.00) is warmer (85% similar). Chanel Khaki Intense (951) (LE, $34.00) is darker, warmer (85% similar). Sephora Snakeskin Dress (17) (DC, $10.00) is warmer (85% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty O(vert) (56) (P, $26.00) is darker (80% similar). L'Oreal Green Ivy (270) (P, $8.99) is darker, warmer (80% similar). bareMinerals 10AM (LE, $15.00) is darker (80% similar). Ah, Guerlain. Once again you disappoint — and at that price point, I want to be fully satisfied. 🙁
🙁
Completely agree! This collection sucks! !!they simply repackaged the primer (a wack primer by the way no skincare ingredients for this price tag) an overpriced powder (too fraganced and made with something so commun like talc)
A blush easily dupable
The pencil has nothing innovative
After a stunning collection like the last one this spring collection is completely tasteless
Meh..not impressed. Then, I looked at the price and I was even less impressed!
lol! I wish they were better, too!
Aw, judging from your review I expected Khaki Driver to get more than a C… looks pretty.
Aw! It’s a nice color, but the performance could be better.
Yikes! That’s a pretty steep price for an eyeliner! I’m intrigued by the swatch of Khaki Driver but at that price point, I’ll go check out the dupes instead.
Hopefully a dupe will work for you, Tracy!
I always find it kinda amusing how HE brands seem to always eff’up something as simple as a pencil liner. I own a few ‘luxury’ pencils, but for the most part, they are rarely worth the premium.
Right? They’re rarely even unique. I will give that point to Chanel – at least I do see some more unique shades/textures from them, though not always.
Too much $’s for too poor of quality. Guerlain should *perhaps* just stick to what they actually do best: lipsticks, foundation and powdered face products.
Agreed!
I’m a total sucker for olive golds, so love the Khaki color, but $31 is too much for .04 oz, must use 3 passes to make it opaque, and must sharpen. This pencil will be gone in no time! L’Oreal Green Ivy is a stunning color, but the Silkissemee formula isn’t budgeproof on my oily lids, but I’m ok if I get a sexy smudge rather than raccoon eyes. Will put that one on my wishlist.
I wish it was better – surprised it wasn’t!
Easily duped for much cheaper and better.
If you have the L’Oreal Green Ivy – which is not only more than half the price and a lot better rating – then you don’t need this overpriced and under performing Khaki eye pencil.
Khaki Driver is a lovley colour. Must check the dupes from MAC in person.
I really like the color of Khaki Driver, but have to doubt that it would really build up to an opaque line on my lids. Something going back-and-forth, over-and-over, is not my wrinkly old lids’ favorite thing!
Makes me glad I got the last Snakeskin Dress in the markdown bin @ big S. $5 and a better rating sure beats the hell out of Guerlain prices…think I’ll stick to their way old fragrances, esp. the unisex ones. Like with Dior, I always jump forward to thinking about the dupes, assuming the product will be less than adequate. Funny, but sad. What would we ever do without you?
I kinda like Blackjack but it’s too rich for me!
