#688

Guerlain #688 Sheer Shine Rouge G Lip Color ($33.00 for 0.09 oz.) is a medium, raspberry pink with neutral-to-cool undertones and a natural sheen. It had medium color payoff in a single layer, which built up to semi-opaque coverage with a second layer.

The texture was lightweight, thin but not clingy, and had enough glide to apply comfortably to my lips in a fluid motion, though I didn’t feel like it had the shine I’d expect from this formula (or the finish description!) and didn’t find it smoothed out my lip lines as nicely as the original Rouge G formula. It wore well for four hours and was lightly hydrating over time.

Formula Overview

$33.00/0.09 oz. - $366.67 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to have a "sheer shine" finish; so it has a "luminous effect" on the lips with "6 hours of hydration" paired with "sheer" coverage. They had more medium to semi-opaque coverage, nowhere near "sheer" or a "veil" as the brand described; the coverage really didn't feel like a massive departure from the original Rouge G range (which is classified as "satin").

They had a smooth, lightweight, and thinner consistency that glided easily across my lips and was comfortable to apply and to wear. The majority of the range applied evenly without emphasizing my lip lines, but I did not find that the formula was as successful as smoothing out my lip texture and lip lines as the original range has been.

I think the satin Rouge Gs actually have greater shine--they're glossier and richer in look--compared to the sheer shine finish, which just seems to be less emollient and slightly less pigmented. The sheer shine finish has a bit more pearl, on average, compared to the satin Rouge Gs.

The wear time ranged from three to five hours but was shorter-wearing, which I find common to thinner, sheerer formulas like this one, so it was on par for formulas of this type. It was lightly hydrating but not as nourishing as I'd expect based on claims as well as past experience with Guerlain's lip products. There was a subtle, sweet, floral and vanilla scent but no discernible taste.

Keep in mind that Guerlain's Rouge Gs are sold as refills that can be put into a separate case. The refill has a small, plastic cap, which is serviceable but likely not going to be durable enough for someone who takes their lipstick on-the-go or for traveling--more suitable for sitting in a drawer at home.

#699

Guerlain #699 Sheer Shine Rouge G Lip Color ($33.00 for 0.09 oz.) is a medium-dark berry with moderate, cool undertones and a luminous sheen with faint pearl. It had medium pigmentation in one layer, which applied evenly and smoothly across my lips without tugging. The texture felt lightweight with light slip but not enough to move around too readily while worn.

The color applied evenly, and the texture didn’t emphasize my lip lines–even smoothed out some of them–or imperfections. It stayed on nicely for four and a half hours and felt lightly moisturizing while worn.

IDK, but as much as I love the color of #699, something tells me that I would be better off getting either Hourglass Liberator or L’Oreal Glassy Garnet. Both of those look a lot smoother than than the Guerlain version. Yet this one has far better staying power, I believe.

Concur! And somehow these colors don’t look the same on the lips as what you see and I prefer what I see in the tube.
