Givenchy Rose Dentelle & Prune Taffetas Ombre Couture Cream Eyeshadows Reviews, Photos, Swatches
Givenchy Rose Dentelle (3) Ombre Couture Cream Eyeshadow
These are the last of the Givenchy Ombre Couture Cream Eyeshadow ($23.00 for 0.14 oz.) shades I have to review! You can check out previously reviewed shades here. 🙂 The brand describes them as “creamy, waterproof, [and] long-lasting.” It’s a cream-to-powder formula, so it feels like a cream initially but dries down to a powder finish. Givenchy actually states that this lasts for 16 hours, which is quite a tall order and one that I haven’t found any shade to live up to (or even last close to that).
Givenchy Rose Dentelle (3) Ombre Couture Cream Eyeshadow ($23.00 for 0.14 oz.) is described as an “old pink.” It’s a muted, rosy pink with warm, orange undertones and a matte finish. It had excellent color payoff that could be applied opaque in a single layer or sheered out for a softer look. This shade was creamy but quick to dry down, so I would recommend working one eye at a time to ensure blendability throughout application. On me, this shade wore well for twelve hours before creasing. bareMinerals Velvet Mauve (P, $14.00) is slightly warmer, powder. LORAC Mauve (P) is cooler-toned, powder. Guerlain Boulevard du Montparnasse #5 (LE) is more shimmery, cooler-toned, powder. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Givenchy Prune Taffetas (8) Ombre Couture Cream Eyeshadow ($23.00 for 0.14 oz.) is described as a “plum.” It’s a medium-dark, cool-toned plum with a pink base and a soft, pearly shimmer. It had semi-opaque color payoff, but it took two to three layers (you could get away with almost two if you went heavy) to get more opaque coverage. The consistency was lightly creamy, dried down to a powder finish, and lasted for almost twelve hours before creasing. theBalm #2 (P, $6.50) is a powder product. MAC Pinkluxe #3 (P) is more metallic, powder. MAC Pink Union #1 (LE, $21.00) is lighter, more muted, powder. MAC Luxury Touch (LE, $16.50) is more shimmery. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

I was going to pick up both of these, but didn’t. Super happy I waited for your review. I have zero interest in prune taffetas at this point -grimace-, but see that Rose Dentelle is different enough from a couple of my MAC paint pots to warrant the purchase. I thought it might be similar to Stormy Pink or Utterly Becoming(LE). I’m going to pull up swatches to do a double check and compare. I like the quality and pigmentation on Rose Dentelle. Thanks for great review 🙂
not at all like Stormy Pink, but yes, Utterly Becoming(LE) is slightly similar but lighter with less pink overtone than Rose Dentelle. I’m getting this one. I see it as a really pretty base for my Naked 3 palette in particular.
Always my pleasure, Wendy! 🙂 I can see Rose Dentelle being a go-to shade for some, definitely a nice base shade!
Ick, what a disappointment Prune Taffetas is 🙁
It was a bummer!
12 hour wear? Yes please!
They wear nicely, even if it isn’t the 16 hours they claim. (Wish brands would just take it down a notch, LOL!)
Prune Taffetas looks a little sheer but it’s still very pretty. I love the purple shimmer!
The shimmer is very pretty!
Not my shades!
Aw, bummer!
These are actually something I would gravitate to: cream to powder shadows. Too bad Prune Taffeta ended up being a disappointment because I love the color in the pan. Rose Dentelle is pretty and a shade I always gravitate toward, but it’s almost the color of my eyelids, lol, so I guess it would be a relatively expensive base. I’m going to look for the rest of your swatches for this collection.
For some, a base color would work if there’s any lid discoloration/unevenness, though! So maybe for that purpose it could work, though I’m sure you have several bases that work well already!
I wanted prune to be amazing, sadface 🙁
Me too!
Awwww :,-( Prune Taffetas, why wouldn’t they let you go to your full potential? Poor little purple pot – I feel rather sorry for it, really.
…I…should probably stop anthropomorphising my makeup, shouldn’t I… 😉
That’s half the fun, though 😉
Rose Dentelle did not look rosy at all on my eyelids! I loved it when I swatched it at Sephora, but when I wore it at home it was very, very peachy and looked like I had applied MAC’s Samoa Silk all over my eyelid. Twice. Not sure if anyone else had this happen to them. I ended up returning it because it wasn’t unique enough for me (MAC has a similar toned paint pot).
Wow! I can’t believe it turned so orange-y applied on you!
