Givenchy Pearl Shine Rouge Interdit Shine Lipstick Review, Photos, Swatches
Givenchy Pearl Shine Rouge Interdit Shine Lipstick ($27.00) is an extremely sheer bright white-gold shimmered lipstick. This is the equivalent of the ultra sheer lipgloss that just adds a glossy sheen to your lips — because that’s about all this lipstick does for me. It’s kind of cool to look at, and on lips, it’s definitely a shimmery/frosty confection, but there’s no real color to it. I found it’s a lipstick you use to layer under lipglosses, but it’s not really something I’d wear alone.
It’s hydrating and has a fun, glossy sheen, but without the color, this lipstick falls flat, and for $27 and not even a smidgen of color? I don’t know if it’s worth it. I tried layering it underneath Givenchy’s Tender Pearl Lipgloss (also from the same collection), and it really didn’t add as much as I had hoped for. It adds a little extra shimmer here and there, but the gloss could have just as easily stood alone.
This lipstick gives “sheer” a new meaning, and while I can handle sheer, this seems a little too sheer even for sheer fans. I’m not sure if it’s a “shade” or we should just chalk it up to sheerness, so I’m a bit troubled by how to rate this product overall. (If it’s more of a shade issue, I don’t rate a product down simply because I don’t dig the shade personally.)

Oh man, that’s a bummer it’s so sheer on the lips! It’s so pretty to look at in the tube. It would even be better if it just came off frosty, but sadly, it’s just like a little sparkle.
Ahh well.
Oh wow that is SHEER!
Wow, that’s extremly sheer!
looks similar to NARS Sabrina lip balm (in stick form)
expensive for something with just a hint of shimmer, but I can see it being pretty for a splurging teenager that isn’t allowed to wear much makeup and still wants something special.
The emperor has no lipstick.
I guess the packaging must be worth $27.
LOL, nicely phrased… i would never buy a lippie when its sheerness has been pushed to teh extreme.
i trusts Christine’s swatches, thanks for this!
Thanks, Vivi! 🙂
I know the Rouge Interdit Shine lipsticks are on the sheer side, but this definitely felt a lil’ too sheer!
I had high hopes for this – it would be a gorgeous color if it stayed true to the pink in the tube! Disappointing, but still very pretty!
On the lips it looks like a lip balm you can buy at CVS for $2.00. It is really hard to understand the value.
i know!!! that’s what i thought when i saw the swatches:S
It is so sheer! Maybe it would be ok as a layering colour.
I think it’s very pretty. I’ve been meaning to tell you, Christine, i think you always apply too thin a layer of lip products. They never look like your swatches in real life.
I apply several layers — as much as I feel is necessary to get it to be as opaque as possible as it will be on my lips, but I certainly feel like I’m applying enough to make it show up as much as it will on me.
Everybody’s lips are different, so you may have lighter or paler lips that show lip color more easily than mine. I don’t pile it on (I’m not going to sit there for five minutes to apply it), but I don’t deliberately try to show it as anything less than how it works for me. I want every product to be amazing, so I’m not in the business of trying to shortchange it by only putting a tiny bit on and saying it’s sheer!
I didn’t mean you were doing it deliberately, of course not! I was just wondering… i could swear the layer in your lip swatches is very thin. My lips are even more pigmented than yours and i always apply several layers for the color to show…
Nope, I always layer it on, and if it seems sheer, I’m definitely putting multiple layers on. I usually do 2-3 layers overall, but if it’s super opaque, I may only do one and then fill in anywhere I missed… If it’s sheer, I usually just keep layering until I’m like, “OK, not getting more opaque” and quit.
It IS pretty, but if I were looking for a shimmery lipstick, I’d definitely pick the gold Dolce and Gabbanna you showed today. That’s a really nice one.
It’s so pretty in the tube; it’s a shame it’s so darned sheer. My lips are already on the red side so I think it’d just disappear on me.
Looks like a beautiful shade, but on the lips it’s almost invisible and seems more like a normal transparent lipgloss. It would have been nice to express some color also :(. I wouldn’t pay so much money only for a shimmer. My Jordana lipgloss in Strawberry can do this only for $3.
Guess I won’t be buying this then, lol. 🙂
jajajaja looks better on your skin than your lips jajajajaja
totally agree with you… looks like my niece lipgloss
such pretty packaging for such an underwhelming product
It is pretty, but it applies like a shimmery lip balm. Definitely not worth $27.
Now this is what I call super sheer!
I would wear that color if it were opaque. :/
These are really the incidences that make me wonder if its worth it to try and save my money up for something higher than drugstore (seeing as i am just starting out my collection). But when a product like this comes along my view it really shakes me to think that I am just bringing myself up for the let down.
Nice luster, but definitely not worth the money!
