Givenchy Ombre Couture Cream Eyeshadows
Givenchy Ombre Couture Cream Eyeshadow ($23.00 for 0.14 oz.) is supposed to be a “creamy, waterproof, long-lasting eyeshadow.” The formula says that it will last for 16-hours (!). The three shades wore around 12 hours well on me, which is good wear but not quite 16, before I saw some slight creasing. I did have some fall out with the more sparkly shades, which are deceptively matte-looking in the pots initially, but as soon as you disturb the top layer, you’ll see the sparkles. The pigmentation across all three shades was good, and the consistency was lightly creamy without being heavy or thick, but the colors spread evenly and smoothly over the lid.
Givenchy Beige Mousseline (2) Ombre Couture Cream Eyeshadow ($23.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a medium, peachy-orange with white sparkle over a matte base. It had excellent color payoff, and it really blended easily across the skin. I did have noticeable fall out after eight hours with this shade that progressively worsened as it wore on. Too Faced Salted Caramel (P, $16.000) is a powder, browner. NARS Ramatuelle #3 (LE, $24.00) is a powder, more shimmery. MAC Tete-a-Tint (P, $15.00) is a powder, darker. MAC Body Conscious (LE, $15.00) is a powder, darker, warmer. See comparison swatches.
Givenchy Kaki Brocart (6) Ombre Couture Cream Eyeshadow ($23.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a medium-dark, olive green with warm, olive brown undertones and a soft gold sparkle over a satin finish. It had good pigmentation, and it was easy to apply and blend on the lid. I had very slight fall out with this shade after eight hours, but it was less sparkly (and finer shimmer) than Beige Mousseline. theBalm D4 (LE, $16.00) is powder, less warm-toned. Dior Bonne Etoile (384) #1 (LE) is powder, more shimmery. theBalm Lead Zeppelin (P, $16.00) is powder, more shimmery. Make Up For Ever #148 (P, $20.00) is powder, a touch lighter. See comparison swatches.
Givenchy Taupe Velours (5) Ombre Couture Cream Eyeshadow ($23.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a dark, gray-tinged brown with subtle warm undertones and a satin-matte finish. It had fantastic color payoff, and the texture was just right and made for easy application and blending. Divergent Bold Espresso (LE) is powder, darker. Laura Mercier Coffee Ground (P, $23.00) is powder, slightly cooler-toned. LORAC Sable (P) is powder, warmer. bareMinerals Get Ahead (LE) is powder, lighter. Kat Von D Wolf (P) is powder, darker. MAC Cross-Cultural (LE, $15.00) is powder, darker. Inglot #360 (P, $6.00) is powder, slightly warmer. Bobbi Brown Stone (LE, $22.00) is powder. See comparison swatches.

I´m not impressed as I thought I would be. I tend to like Givenchy products but these shadows aren´t appealing. I will wait for the review on the next colors 🙂
These were the only ones I bought, sorry Ivana!
I really like the look of the that Khaki eyeshadow!
I like the color a lot!
Those really seam lovely. They also make a nice satin to matte finish pink color as well. I need to go check them out in person. I love a good cream shadow.
Sounds pretty!
These are pretty but the colors seem a little muddy and dull to me. Is that just my computer screen? Sometimes that’s just the limited graphics and not the picture on the screen.
These are more muted shades – they’re not really bright or bold colors.
Why not just leave the sparkles out of the picture?
That being said, I love taupe anything and Taupe Velour is sans sparkle..so, yes please! It looks a smidgen browner than MAC tailor grey and darker and browner than camel coat.
I was surprised that one of the more neutral shades had so much sparkle – I thought it would be more of a “base shade,” though admittedly, once I saw it, it was a lot darker than I anticipated as well.
How did you get them to look so smooth? I swatched all of them at Sephora a few days ago and all of them went on very patchy, dragging, not opaque at all, they were pretty terrible actually…
I just used a flat brush – same as I do for any cream eyeshadow! Don’t know if the testers were over-used? Or if that makes an impact (I know it can for some powder products).
The testers were hardly touched…
No idea then! 🙁
Taupe looks super pigmented and beautiful! The texture looks cool too.. Beautifully used on your eyes 🙂
Thanks, Lancy!
Aw, what a disappointment that the sparkles fall out! I think I might give them a miss, even though that green one looks beautiful.
I know! 🙁 Not all the shades are sparkly, and the green one was very minimal fall out – Taupe Velours has no sparkle so no fall out!
I really like Beige Mousseline. It’s difficult to find a cream eyeshadow without sparkle, this appears to be a good option!
Beige Mousseline has a ton of sparkle!
Hmm, like the coverage but not the colors!
I can see these colors not being everyone’s cup of tea!
Kaki Brocart is gorgeous!
That was my fave!
Taupe Velours could be perfect for filling in eyebrows…Don’t you think?
It could be – it definitely has a brow shade feel.
Very pretty. I am loving Kaki Brocart – it’s a pretty unique shade for a cream shadow!
Very true! Not too bold or dark.
Oh! I think I was expecting a bit more color and sparkle(that doesnt fall out) 🙁
The fall out was disappointing for sure!
I’m crazy about the look you did with these shadows, Christine and may break down and get Kaki Brocart (even though I’ve got the Bonne Etoile palette; it just looks so “want-able”). I have dupes of the other colours so can pass on those without too much pain but that green….ooooh, me want!
Kaki Brocart might work nicely with Bonne Etoile 😉
Ooh, I like Kaki Brocart, and I like how Taupe Velours isn’t too warm. That’s a gorgeous autumnal eye look you’ve done with them! 😀
Quite the opposite of spring 😉
These look great! Kaki Brocart looks really pretty despite technically not being a “pretty” color.
I have a soft spot for murky greens, lol!
I ike Khaki best!
Yay!
It seems like no matter how many of these pot style shadows are released, they never lose their appeal to me. Gosh all three shades would gets lots of use from me, especially the first one as an all-over wash of color.
They’re surprisingly well-priced, too!
SO happy to see a review on these! Givenchy is a brand that I will often look at as I pass by but have yet to find ANYTHING from them that catches my eye! I would love to try them, I’d love to be “into” the brand but I struggle finding something to hook me in! ARGH!
I’ve been liking a lot more of their formulas lately – for years I kind of avoided because I didn’t really like what I had tried!
I tried these shadows last time I went to Sephora and really disliked them. So I was surprised to see some of them were getting As, but then the swatches confirm my feeling: they look dull, even muddy for some, lack dimension, and they tend to emphasize skin texture/fine lines. I had high hopes for this new product, being a cream shadow addict, but I think they’re a big miss…
They are muted, very earthy, toned down colors (at least, the three I have), but I don’t rate based on whether I like a color or whether it’s soft/bold/muted. I didn’t have any issues with it emphasizing skin texture or fine lines, though!
Khaki is a beautiful shade, Taupe is nice too but the Givenchy Eye creams didnt made it for me. I think slight shimmers or frosty/metallic finishes would have been better. Also the shades are far from interesting, wish they had some bright shades in it! 🙂
I agree that the shade range could have used more variety!
$23 for Givenchy?? That’s cheaper than nars!
Yeah, the price seems low, lol!
These are pretty, but seem just like all the other cream shadows out there
Is this permanent or limited edition?
Permanent!
I really like the look you created with these shades. I missed my opportunity to check ’em out while I was in Boston today ‘coz I somehow managed to miss your reviews on this Givenchy collection.
Thank you, Allison! 🙂
