Give Me Glow Pressed Highlighter came out with powder highlighters a couple of months ago, which are larger, plastic compacts with intense, metallic powders in them. These are for the shine, shimmer, and highlighter fanatic — all things shiny and metallic — but less ideal for someone who prefers very buildable coverage and/or a subtle sheen. Here are swatches of the 11 shades available!

Gosh, these are all beautiful but most are too deep for me. I love the deep pinks but able to pull that off at 68 years of age. People will just think I missed my eye when applying highlighter. I do like Snowflake and it would work on my skin tone but it looks like it leans more silver than snowflake so I wouldn’t use it either.

I have Snowflake, White Noise and Welcome to my Dollhouse and all 3 work for my very fair, cool toned skin. The formula in general has a very high shine finish but you can definitely get a less intense glow with a fan brush and light hand. Snowflake will only look silver if it’s built up a lot; White Noise is the only champagne colored highlight I can wear as it has a neutral, not warm golden undertone; and Dollhouse would normally be too dark but if I tap in once with my brush, I get a beautiful pale pink shade that doesn’t leave a cast. I definitely recommend all 3!

Thank you so much Cara. I will pick up Snowflake and then go from there. I always love the look of a white/gold highlight, on other people but don’t love them on me as they run so warm. The fact that these a cool toned/neutral toned gives me hope that I might find one that looks good on me.

You’re welcome! White gold and champagne highlighters, regardless of how light they are, pull warm on me because I have a strong cool undertone so I always look for cool toned white, pink or, like White Noise, pale beige with a true neutral or cool undertone. As we pale vampires keep trying to tell brands, there’s no such thing as a universal shade, even champagne!

If you want a good laugh, when I was in Seattle the first time when we were apartment hunting for my daughter, I made my first trip to a makeup counter in over a year. We went to the very frou-frou Downtown Mall and I was looking to pick up a new bottle of MAC Fix Plus. I am sort of addicted to the stuff. Mostly the smell. Anyway, I sprayed the testers they had for the different scents and the “original” . Right away I knew that the scent was different. I had sprayed them in the air. The beauty consultant came and I asked her about the changed scent and she insisted it was the same. My daughter was standing there and she said it smelled the same to her. So, I took the spray, thinking that maybe it was just spraying in the air that was throwing me off. I sprayed a good amount all over my face and then realized I still had my glasses on. The consultant looked at me like I was crazy, or at least I think that is how she looked at me since she was pretty blurry. My daughter cracked up and once I had my glasses cleaned I laughed about it also. When we got home I had my daughter compare the two scents and then she said, “You are right Mom, it doesn’t smell the same!” I know my Fix Plus.

Dimethicone, and cosmetic silicones in general, give makeup and skincare products the much loved buttery feel and in the case of highlighters, allows them to melt into the skin and blend seamlessly. Cosmetic silicones, dimethicone included, are non-comedogenic, non-acneic and are often added to products that help repair a compromised skin barrier and eczema sufferers because they protect against outside irritants while also helping to prevent transepidermal water loss (keeps skin from getting dry).

Full disclosure, I’m a Viseart junkie but I have Cashmerie and it’s quickly becoming a new favorite! It’s more cool toned in person than it looks online (although there are a few warmer pops for those that like them) and the formula is great, as usual. If you haven’t tried Viseart before, the mattes feel dry to the touch but are pigmented, buildable and basically blend themselves while the shimmers can be applied lightly for a subtle glow or built to a high shine metallic finish. Cashmerie is a more sophisticated take on the typical orange/red fall palette we see often and I feel offers more versatility as well.

I have Snowflake, White Noise and Welcome to my Dollhouse and all 3 are great. They have an incredibly high shine finish but can definitely be toned down by applying with a fan brush and light hand.
