Giorgio Armani #09 Eyes to Kill Solo Eyeshadow

Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Solo Eyeshadow ($32.00 for 0.053 / 0.061 oz.) is the newest eyeshadow formula from the brand. It’s supposed to be a soft, highly pigmented, and long-lasting formula. The three below have good color payoff, soft, silky textures, and all wore well for eight hours, with the matte shade lasting just shy of eight hours before creasing slightly. The matte shades contain 0.053 oz., while the shimmery shades contain 0.061 oz.

Giorgio Armani #09 Eyes to Kill Solo Eyeshadow ($32.00 for 0.061 oz.) is a golden taupe with a frosted, almost metallic, finish. The color payoff was excellent, and the texture was soft, smooth, and buttery. Maybelline Nude Compliment (90) (LE, $6.99) is a cream product. Makeup Geek Moondust (P, $5.99) is a touch darker. MAC Silver Dawn (LE, $19.50) is darker, less shimmery. Urban Decay Vaporize (LE, $18.00) is darker, cooler-toned/ Urban Decay Derailed (LE, $18.00) is cooler-toned. bareMinerals Magnetism (P) is lighter, cooler-toned. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Giorgio Armani #16 Eyes to Kill Solo Eyeshadow ($32.00 for 0.061 oz.) is a smoky, muted purple with neutral-to-warm undertones and a soft, frosted finish. It had excellent pigmentation, and the texture was incredibly soft and buttery. MAC Pearled Earth (P, $15.00) is a touch grayer. Too Faced Candied Violet (P, $16.00) is more sparkly. Makeup Geek Drama Queen (P, $5.99) is darker, brighter. Urban Decay Rapture (LE, $18.00) is brighter. MAC Winterized (LE, $21.00) is similar. Giorgio Armani #3 (P, $33.00) is darker, brighter, more shimmery. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Giorgio Armani #01 Eyes to Kill Solo Eyeshadow ($32.00 for 0.053 oz.) is a medium-dark black with a matte finish and neutral undertones. It has a very soft, silky texture that doesn’t get powdery but is thin, so it applies better in practice than merely swatched. It had fairly good color payoff, and it was very blendable on the skin. It lasted just shy of eight hours before slightly creasing. It’s a basic black, so there are lots of similar shades — see comparison swatches / view dupes.

I have #09 (it’s called Tadzio), and I am pretty impressed by the shade as well as quality! The thing with taupe eyeshadows (and coral blushes/lipsticks, haha) is that they never bore me, and it is next to impossible to find real dupes. At least that’s how I justify my purchases 😉

Love how you combined the three for a look! #16 is definitely on my autumn wish list 🙂

i can’t wait for these! do you know when they will be released? also, i’ve noticed the supply rouge d’armani dwindling at most retailers-shades are just disappearing. do you have any information on these being discontinued/reformulated?

Ooh, love #16, and #9 is pretty as well! The black shadow is nice, but I think I already have two or three functional matte black shadows from palettes, so it’s probably safe from me, LOL!

What’s the eyeliner you’re wearing? I want it! 😀 Although I already have UD Junkie… unless it *is* UD Junkie 😛 The question is: can you have too many turquoise green eyeliners? (Hint: I don’t think so!)

It never ceases to amaze me how makeup companies continue to put out taupe and plum shades that are unique, despite the fact that I have about a half a million of each colour already. Since I already have enough matte blacks to last me a lifetime (including two in Armani palettes), I can skip that, but the other two are beautiful. Armani has become one of my top three makeup brands for certain.

Curious: why do the shimmer shades contain more? Is it something to do with the pigments and how they pack vs the pigments in a matte shade?? I know this is a technical question, and I’m always wanting to know the how’s and why’s of the manufacturing LOL

I imagine it has something to do with certain ingredients weighing more but not necessarily taking up more space or some ingredients take up less volume so more gets put in, resulting in a higher weight. Oddly enough, MAC’s Veluxe Pearls (a shimmery formula) is 0.04 oz. compared to their regular eyeshadows at 0.05 oz. but take up the space volume.

Thank you! I did try googling how to make eyeshadow, hoping for some info, but there’s not much out there. But it did make sense, now that you say about some ingredients weighing more, looking at the mica, oxides, pearlizers, etc, that go into a colour.
