Fyrinnae Winter 2013 Eyeshadow Collection Review, Photos, Swatches
Fyrinnae Winter 2013 Eyeshadows
Fyrinnae Fireside Interlude Eyeshadow ($6.25 for 0.11 oz.) is described as a “firey, warm blend of hues with a metallic finish.” It’s a deepened, molten orange with hints of brown with a coppery-gold metallic sheen. It’s like two colors layered with each other. When applied dry, it takes on more of that rusty orange coloring with a semi-matte to satin finish, but when applied damp or patted over Pixie Epoxy, you see that metallic sheen come through. It’s absolutely stunning, but I will say that this shade is not quite as easy to apply and get 100% amazing results every time–it can be a little more finnicky, though the extra effort might be worth it in this case! Sugarpill Asteria (LE, $12.00) is lighter. See comparison swatches.
Peppermint Vodka Eyeshadow ($6.25 for 0.11 oz.) is described as a “shimmering burgundy enhanced with copper sparkle.” It’s a warm-toned, muted, reddish-copper–I see where Fyrinnae is saying burgundy but “enhanced” with copper sparkle; because it seems like a warm burgundy, but lighter and then I see the coppery undertone. It had a frosted finish and applied similarly whether used dry, damp, or over Pixie Epoxy (it was more intense with the latter two methods). Makeup Geek Burlesque (P, $5.99) is darker, less warm-toned. Chanel Seduction #1 (LE) is slightly more burgundy. Sleek MakeUP Sunset #7 (P, $9.99) is darker, more burgundy. LORAC Garnet (P) is more coppery. NARS California (P, $24.00) is also more coppery. MAC Spicy Smoke (LE, $32.50) is lighter. See comparison swatches.
Scarlet Macaw Eyeshadow ($6.25 for 0.11 oz.) is described as a “bright shimmery warm red filled with multi-color sparkle.” It’s a warm-toned, coral-orange with pink sparkle. The texture on this one was a little dry and almost gritty in a way; I felt like as I pressed and blended the color into the skin, it smoothed out, but it didn’t feel quite like other shades I’ve tried by Fyrinnae. Applied dry, it’s more orange, and then applied damp or over Pixie Epoxy, it’s redder. It will have some fall out if worn without a base, but it wears without fall out when used with Pixie Epoxy. This isn’t part of the new winter collection, but it was a mini sample included with my order–and it paired so well with the warmer tones from the collection, I ended up using it, too! NARS Cambodia (LE, $24.00) is more coppery. MAC Pink Pepper (LE, $21.00) is lighter. MAC Caribbean (LE, $21.00) is similar. Disney by Sephora Arabian Sunset (LE) is very similar, less sparkly.L’Oreal Cherie Merie (LE, $7.99) is slightly lighter. MAC Dynamo (LE, $18.50) is lighter, cream product. Guerlain Terra Azzurra #3 (LE) is lighter. See comparison swatches.
Sled Puppies Eyeshadow ($6.25 for 0.11 oz.) is described as a “gleaming, shimmery transparent white gold.” It’s a pale, golden ivory with a sparkling, shimmering finish. Applied dry, it has a softer, less over-the-top sparkling effect, as when it is applied damp or over Pixie Epoxy, it becomes more metallic. Clarins Forest #2 (LE) is similar. Tarina Tarantino Taurella (LE) is warmer. Too Faced Snowflakes (LE) is similar. theBalm C1 (LE, $16.00) is yellower. Disney by Sephora Charming (LE) is a bit yellower.Disney by Sephora Sea Shells (LE) is less sparkly. theBalm Envious Erin (P, $16.00) is similar but less sparkly (more metallic). Make Up For Ever #101 (P, $20.00) is a touch warmer. MAC Vanilla (P, $21.00) is similar. See comparison swatches.
Snowboarding Eyeshadow ($6.25 for 0.11 oz.) is described as a “vibrant purple … [with] a fine shimmer finish].” It’s a cool-toned, violet purple with pinky tones and a iridescent, bluish-violet shimmer. Applied dry, it is a brighter, pinker purple with a barely-there satin finish. Applied damp or over Pixie Epoxy, it takes on a much more metallic finish–it really enabled the bluish-violet shimmer to come through. This shade, like Fireside Interlude, is for sure gorgeous but can require a little more patience to work with. Urban Decay Betrayal (LE, $18.00) is lighter. Fyrinnae Parental Advisory (DC, $8.25) is less pink, less transformative. Urban Decay Omen (P, $18.00) is more muted. Inglot #439 (P, $6.00) is brighter, less pink. Inglot #441 (P, $6.00) lacks the bluish-violet shimmer/sheen. See comparison swatches.
Generally, all of these shades lasted eight hours on me, and then when applied over Pixie Epoxy, a little longer than eight hours and were slower to show signs of fading. Shades like Scarlet Macaw and Sled Puppies had slight fall out when worn without Pixie Epoxy (which is designed to minimize sparkle fall out from the brand’s eyeshadows). The eyeshadows can be applied dry, damp, or over Pixie Epoxy–to get the maximum effect and impact from Fyrinnae’s eyeshadows, I highly recommend using them over Pixie Epoxy. If you need extra staying power, layer your favorite primer underneath Pixie Epoxy. You can read reviews of Because Cats, Boot Season, and Frostbytes here.

Ohhhh Fireside interlude. Ohhhhh!!
Haha! That was my reaction when I swatched it! 🙂
WOW Fireside Interlude looks incredible on you with your eye color!!! I need that one!!
It’s amazing!!
I’m just giggling at the name Peppermint Vodka. I love that name.
I just ordered a mini of the Boot Season eyeshadow (along with the blush and lip lustre you reviewed!). Is that the green one you have pictured up at the top? I was hoping to see a review for it, but I’m guessing it’s getting reviewed in a different batch or something?
It was reviewed earlier this morning here – http://www.temptalia.com/fyrinnae-cats-boot-season-frostbytes-eyeshadows-reviews-photos-swatches
🙂
Hi Christine:)
I’ve enjoyed your reviews of Fyrinnae. I have wanted to order from them awhile, but there website seems to be up, then down, and they other day I had my basket ready to go and then suddenly all my items were gone. Have you heard anything from them? Also, I didn’t know if you had a date when they would be re-stocking their pressed eyeshadows?
Hi Jessica,
That is, unfortunately, the roller coaster of being a customer of Fyrinnae at times! I’ve never had any issues getting my order if I was able to place it, though, and even with the long turnaround time, I got the winter collection in like three days. My guess is the basket was emptied when they were doing site updates or something like that.
Thank you very much for the explanation. Has Fyrinnae sent you any potential dates for restocking the pressed eyeshadows?
Hi Jessica!
No idea!
Fireside Interlude is freaking gorgeous!
How would you compare Snowboarding with NARS Rage?
Rage is pinker, lighter, warmer!
I tried to go to the website, but it says they are no longer accepting orders at this time. Sad. I need Sled Puppies in my life.
NOOOOOO! They were up last night and this morning! I checked and double-checked and triple-checked before writing the reviews! BOOOOOOO!
It sounds like all your positive reviews are resulting in lots of new orders for them! I personally ordered for the first time after your reviews for the blush and lip lustre. They must be trying to catch up. I can’t wait to receive my items, hopefully before heading home for Christmas (since some items are for my sister).
Do you have any tips on blending the eyeshadow over pixie epoxy? It is so difficult to blend cause the eyeshadow just stick there.
Hi Ting!
If it’s hard to blend, I’m thinking you might be applying too much!
Ahhhhh. Thanks for the tip! I always pack the shadow then try to sheer it out. No wonder!
Just take all my money, why don’t you Fyrinnae.
Wow, what a beautiful winter collection– immediately put in mind a roaring fireplace/bright woolies/woods/curling smoke! I LOVE the look you created Christine, it brings out the green in your eyes.
Did anyone else notice the tiny snowball in sledding puppies, very appropriate 😉
I think I may have caused my keyboard to break, because I am droooooooling all over these! Love the collection!
Beautiful look! I’m in love with Sled Puppies, Snowboarding and Because Cats.
Never heard of Fyrinnae but now I’m curious!
It’s a shame their website has been down the last couple of times I’ve planned to buy from them. I really think they deserve to be popular and your reviews reflect that, but it’d be nice if I could order! I’m still waiting on the pressed eyeshadows to come back, I neeeed Aztec Gold in my life but it’s been months since it was available :/ I’m not giving up on them and I know one day I WILL succeed in buying from them haha!
I knowww! Just keep checking I guess. It is unfortunate that it’s the norm, rather than the unusual 🙁
I understand they’re an operation with limited resources (and they’re probably getting swamped for the holidays), but I wish they would add a notice to their front page when they shut down ordering to catch up. First time it happened, I thought they were shutting down business for good. o_0
Yeah, they could use a more descriptive closed message that says a little more to that affect. You know, “Small business, currently understaffed, or we have reached more orders than we can fulfill in the next week, will reopen shortly,” but at least give the reasons there as well.
Thanks for the great look Christine. It looks stunning on you. I have all of these shades in my latest order from Fyrinnae with Snowboarding as a free sample and Scarlet Macaw as a free sample from a previous order. I cannot resist trying out almost every new shade they bring out regardless of whether it is going to suit me or not! There are just so beautiful. Can’t wait to try this look but not sure it will work with my bluish eyes! Keep the Fyrinnae reviews coming please! x
Love the reviews. Really gives me a feel of certain shadows and eye colors. Quality over quantity.
I was so excited when I saw these colors, and then their store is down. They are not taking more orders. :< I am sure they will be bad, but it is sad for right now.
I’ve been wanting to order from them for awhile now as well. I figured they would be extremely busy the closer we get to the holidays. I’m really bummed now because these colors are gorgeous.
I want Peppermint Vodka just for the name!
I juuuust got my order in a few days ago between site updates. According to their blog, they’re extremely understaffed at the moment. It seems that about half their employees had to quit after they moved headquarters to a different location!
Don’t worry. Fyrinnae will be back up. (They’d better be: I need Fireside Interlude, Peppermint Vodka, Sled Puppies, and Snow Boarding in my life too!)
I swear, I check and TRIPLE CHECK before posting a review and then it’s down 🙁
Sled Puppies make me happy. <3
Peppermint vodka!! Gorgeous!!!
Fyrinnae makes beautiful eye shadows, but they need to work on their management. The website is frequently shut down.
I looovvvveeee Fyrinnae and have many colours from this company – love your pics!
The more I see of this collection, the more I think I’d better just order the entire thing!
