Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: New Gucci blushes, new Tom Ford Bronzers… waiting for a few more cheek-related items to come in so I can do swatches all at once, though also because I over-swatched earlier this week and my arm cannot handle more swatching yet, lol.
Weekend plans: Yogis get their 7-week-old photoshoot tomorrow! Otherwise, not too much going on, other than writing reviews, entering dupes, etc. My mom might pop by to see the Yogis!
Do you like attending concerts? I’m not into crowds, so not so much. I went to a ton in my younger days, and now, I’m too crotchety to go, lol!
Psst… since it’s Friday and we’re heading into the weekend, if you have some downtime, consider playing one of the games hubby and I have created! 🙂 You’ll find all of our games on Awordy, but here’s a breakdown of what we have so far:
- Adoptle (guess the name of an adoptable pet in six guesses)
- Concludle (figure out the subject within six clues)
- Mislettered (guess one letter at a time to figure out the phrase/quote)
- Word Frenzy (find as many words from the letters available before the shark devours them)
This week's doggo photo/video...

Recent Purchases: In a moment of nostalgia I bought a small bottle of Chanel Coco (the original, not Mademoiselle or Noir).
Weekend Plans: Working on getting my anxiety under control by relaxing and taking meditative walks.
Do you like attending concerts? Same as you, Christine. I used to go to tons of concerts when I was younger, but I can’t stand being in crowds anymore. And they’re ridiculously expensive these days. Showing my age here, but I remember when you could see the biggest bands in their prime for under $10.
Recent purchases: Colourpop The Pod lipstick (waiting for it to come in the mai).
Weekend plans: Moving this weekend for the first time in EIGHT YEARS. All of our stuff is boxed up and movers are coming tomorrow.
Do you like attending concerts? I do, although since the pandemic it’s been a bit of a thing with going masked (I’m high risk) and then seeing that many other people are not wearing masks 🫠 Next one I’m attending is Tori Amos in July.
I sincerely hope you get to relax and manage your anxiety levels Seraphine. Have you ever had your thyroid checked? My DIL suffers from anxiety and it is due to her thryroid levels being out of whack.
I agree with you about concerts costing an arm and a leg to go and see. I can recall too when the prices were so much more affordable and reasonable.
Chanel Coco is just divine.
Recent purchases: MAC Costa Riche eyeliner pencil and Silver Dusk powder (I passed on buying it for practically nothing at Winners a few years ago and was kicking myself; now it’s on sale at the MAC site so I ordered it); rediscoveries – the NARS Voyageur Suede palette. What a fabulous eyeshadow palette that is. Also Huda Beauty Charming Cherry blush (I bought it and hardly ever used it but I’ve been using it this past week).
Weekend plans: My older son is coming home tonight and then leaving for 5 days in Cancun tomorrow with some of his oldest friends. Then he’s back here to start his house search. I hope to get to the gym at some point this weekend but with road and highway closures around here, just getting him to the airport tomorrow will be challenge enough!
Do you like attending concerts: Absolutely not. I hate crowds; I hate waiting in line (for food, seating, washrooms) and I hate noise. I suppose if I could have priority seating – a private box, someone serving me refreshments in my private box….the sort of treatment the Princess of Wales would get – I could consider it but that ain’t happening….
How wonderful that your eldest son is home for a visit – I hope he gets to see his niece! Is he thinking of buying a house in your area, or just renting? Either way, I wish him the very best of luck, because here in Melbourne, it’s just about impossible to get either.
Are the highway closures due to repairs (so jolly annoying and never ending!) or to the weather?
There are times when being the Princess of Wales does have its appeal…..eg a private box and we can wish……
Housing shortage is a huge issue here too. J will be about a 90 minute car ride away from us (as opposed to a 4 hour airplane trip and all the travel at both ends). I think ideally he would prefer to rent but there’s a major shortage of military housing on/around the base where he’ll be stationed and the Treasury Department “readjusted” military salaries and housing allowances in such a way that J – sort of “middle seniority” – gets the WORST of the deal! He is thinking of purchasing but is concerned that if he’s deployed, what will become of his house (he’s a single guy, so no partner to manage the house or live in it, etc.)
The highway closure is for maintenace/repair. They do this annually (rather than doing it in dribs and drabs, which creates just as much traffic chaos but goes on all year ’round). So it all gets done in a weekend which is a much more reasonable way to do it but it does make for chaos. My city used to be a fairly small city but it’s grown exponentially in the past 20 years (and has become a satellite in a way for Toronto so population and traffic have exploded) and even our newer highways are too small for the volume of traffic every day, all day long (there doesn’t seem to be a “rush hour” here – it goes on all day long).
I hate having to line up for things, deal with crowds – all of it – so any crowded venue is just not for me.
Where did the extra Yogi come from?!?
His foster could only foster through late May, so he joined his siblings until they all get new fosters on 6/2 for their last two weeks!
Thank you :). Went to Instagram to catch up (keep forgetting that’s an option), and the footage is adorable. On a buying break, but will always be here for puppies!
Just to sit in the midst of these cuties would be wonderful! Of course, Crane and Warrior are still my favorites! 🤎🐕🤎
Purchases/rediscoveries: Neither! My wallet is happy 😁
Weekend plans: Zoom meeting tomorrow morning and hopefully Zoom won’t crash like it did yesterday evening. Try to get to the pool to get in some swimming. And, dealing with the intense grieving over the only famous woman who I could relate to on a deeper level: Tina Turner. Her death a few days ago came as a very intensely painful shock for me. She survived so much, and inspired me and others to get out of abusive relationships or marriages.
Do you enjoy going to concerts? Yes, if it’s a band or singer that I have been wanting to see perform live! I missed out on getting to do this while I was either still married (because he wouldn’t let me or give me money for it) and while I was a struggling single Mom. I’ve been to 3 concerts since the ripe old age of 59-63! 🎶
Yes, Tina Turner has a special place in my heart too. Such an inspiring person and sensational singer. Loved her vinyl albums, which I still have….
I’ve never been in an abusive relationship, it must he horrid. I admire all who manage to get out.
I liked Tina Turner so much, she was so strong as a person and her musicality and voice was just a force of nature.
I felt so sad when I read about her death.
Take care, Nancy!
RECENT PURCHASES:
Some hair dye, and my Supergoop order came in.
WEEKEND PLANS: Finally dying my hair. It’s been months. I decided to go copper for summer.
Also helping my son set up some shelves. Digging out my knitting and crocheting supplies out of storage. My son’s GF is going to take some beginner crochet classes at a nearby yarn shop, and I can work on a project while I wait for her. They also have weekly hang out and create times.
I need to wash clothes and pack our bags for our trip to Seattle next week, and help my younger son and his GF pack their bags.
DO YOU LIKE ATTENDING CONCERTS?
I love to, but cost is prohibitive to going as to as many as I’d like. Wednesday night, we’re seeing Duran Duran.
You would look sensational with copper hair Rachel and it is a wonderful colour – very similar to my own original shade, which I dye to nowadays and will to the day I die.
I hope you have a great time in Seattle, so much to see and do there and I hope the weather will be kind to you all.
Thanks; I’m liking the copper! It’s very similar to the shade my hair aun bleaches to naturally. I always say I’m a covert redhead… with freckles to match if I don’t wear my sunscreen.
Duran Duran! What fun. I’ve never heard them live.
They’re even better live than recorded. They put on incredible shows.
Hi Rachel,
I am feeling the copper hair for you! Enjoy the weekend!
Best,
Ilene
Thank you! The copper is really fun.
Nothing quite like a Duran Duran concert! I’m glad that you were able to see them all together one more time.
So am I! I wish you could be there with me.
Aww, Rachel, I wish I could have been there with you all, too! 🫶🏼
Recent Purchases: Nothing makeup related this week, just some summer clothes.
Rediscoveries: ND Safari. The mattes are so beautifully creamy and blendable.
Weekend plans: My son is on summer break (WOW, that school year went FAST) so we’ll do some fun pool things. Also errands and laundry.
Do you like attending concerts? It’s been SUCH a long time since I’ve been to a concert… I don’t know that I would enjoy it anymore.
The school year does go fast and he would have been a pretty tired little boy by the end of your school year. It’s always nice to refresh your summer wardrobe and the summery dresses and skirts are so pretty too.
Hi Genevieve:
How is your sister feeling? I hope she’s doing better. How’s your grandson?
I hope he’s feeling better. How are you doing? That’s a lot of stress in a short period of time. I wish only good things for you and your family going forward.
Best
Ilene
**New Tom Ford bronzers??
Recent purchases: Gucci blush (my 3rd 😬) in the new shade True Pink. Hasn’t arrived yet but I have high expectations since I love the other 2 I have, Silky Rose and Rosy Beige.
Weekend plans: Spending the 4 day holiday babysitting my cousin’s dog and cat while she and her wife are out of town for a wedding.
Concerts?: I also went to more when I was younger but now, at 43, I’m at the ballet, a play or art exhibit more than a concert. I think I’ve only been to 3 in the last 10 yrs – Bruce Springsteen (I grew up in NJ), Metallica (my favorite band) and Janis Ian with my Mom.
Apparently, they’re the Soleil de Feu Glow Highlighters. I didn’t even really read the listing when I purchased, LOL.
LOL!!
I can imagine all the puppy snuggles you get Christine!
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Nothing this week.
Weekend plans: My girlfriend passed away unexpectedly and her funeral is early tomorrow morning. My husband is away on a business trip so it’s just the dog and myself for the rest of the week.
Do you like attending concerts? If they are ones that you can sit down to watch. I’ve traveled as far as Miami to go to see artists in concert. The high prices are starting to affect my decision to attend some concerts.
I’m sorry about the loss of your friend.
Very sad to read that your girlfriend passed away Brenda – how awful for you and her family. Such a shock out of the blue like that.
Take care.
Brenda, I’m so sorry. That has got to be very rough losing a close friend. Death is the enemy of us all. 🥺
I am so sorry. Such a shock and a great loss.
Ilene
The puppies are becoming more adventourous every single week. I love the videos Christine and having those soft toys really engages them. They are just so lovable.
Recent Purchases: Nada
Rediscoveries: Lorac’s Fairytale Forest and CP’s Foolish lipstick
Weekend Plans: Getting over my latest Covid infection (fairly mild) and relaxing.
Thankyou to everyone who expressed concern re Lachlan’s croup attack – he is now better and getting over the trauma of the situation.
My twin sister received the very best news re her breast cancer treatment: she doesn’t have to undergo chemo therapy, just ray treatment (which will be no walk in the park, for sure) and she is very happy about that.
My new car continues to be fantastic.
Attending Concerts: I haven’t been to a concert in years, but I do like going to them.
I’m so happy for your sister. I’m also very glad to hear Lachlan is doing well.
Thank you Rachel – it is great news on both counts. Lachlan is back at school and has settled down in terms of his health and emotions. He still has a splint on his arm due to his broken finger, but is able to watch his team play basketball – which has made him feel better to be around his friends.
Good news about both Lachlan and your sister.
I’m so happy for them and you!
Thank you Helene – your good wishes are very welcome and it has been a great week. As my son said yesterday – at last we have a week when everyone is well!
I was hoping to see a post from you about both your grandson and your sister. Such good news on both counts (insofar as anything to do with cancer can be called “good news” – I’m sure you know what I mean, though).
I am so “jelly” (as the kids say) about that LORAC palette! If only it had been available INSTORE somewhere near me, I’d most likely have bought it (because, of course, I really NEED more e/s palettes!)
Inquiring minds want to know….what kind of car did you get? Because of my age and growing inability to keep up with all the new bells and whistles technology these days, as much as I would love a new car (my car’s not that old and I don’t need one but I know I will “one day”), I sort of fear having to get a new car (or a new washing machine, for that matter!)
Yes, Mariella, I do know what you mean – Allison was overjoyed about the news and it is a positive one for her – because lately everything has been so negative for her.
Lachlan was finally able to go and see his basketball team play, which he really enjoyed as he misses the companionship of his team mates. They welcomed him and were very pleased to see him – which lifted his spirits.
Yes, I feel the same way about new appliances as you do – all that new technology to learn! I purchased a Honda Jazz 2018 Vti-L model – the luxury and later version of the car I already had. Many of the controls are familiar to me, which makes things easier. It’s an easy car to drive, a fantastic one to park as it is on the small side, but is surprisingly roomy inside. Quite ideal for our stage of life.
The Lorac Fairytale forest palette is a good one, but it does have a plethora of golds in it – maybe one or two too many, but otherwise a solid palette.
Genevieve, you are gradually convincing me to get over my inherent fear of cameras and start an actual profile here. Thank you :). And best wishes to your sister.
Thank you so much. My avatar here is pretty old, I really should update it A profile here is a ‘safe’ one and I always think it’s nice to put a face to a name.
Oh thank God that both your twin sister and your little grandson Lachlan are recovering nicely! I’m sure that this (plus your new car running beautifully) have taken a gigantic load off your shoulders, Genevieve. So happy for you all. 💗
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Didn’t have or make too much time to “shop my stash” this past week. Had to scramble to find a cat-sitter (how the tables turn!) with two days notice and otherwise prepare for a road trip lasting roughly twice as long as anticipated.
Weekend plans: Well, yesterday my husband drove us up from Los Angeles to Clear Lake (over eight hours!!) for his aunt’s funeral today, which made our pre-existing plans to visit my own grandma (for the first time since 2019) in Santa Maria over the weekend more complicated 😅 So we’re driving back down a ways for that tomorrow, staying a couple nights, and heading back home on Monday.
Do you like attending concerts? Eh? Before the pandemic, I didn’t go to them very often—they’re a lot of stimulation, especially for homebodies like myself and husband. Since the pandemic…I went to an event at a museum last June that included a concert, but the single artist I bought tickets specifically to see canceled his entire tour and deleted all his social media. 😂 So, eh, if a not-too-expensive, outdoor opportunity presented itself…maybe QotSA again someday? (They’re playing in Sacramento in October, but based on yesterday’s car trip—nope, not worth the drive! lol)
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: No purchases. Not really a rediscovery but I used MAC Lipstick in Rebel for the first time in about a year. What a great lipstick it is!
Weekend plans: Gardening, same old as every weekend. 🙂
Do you like attending concerts? I’ve not been to one in ages, but yes I think I still would love to go if it’s a band or a singer I really like. It’s far to expensive these days though.
I did go to a Tina Turner concert years and years ago, what a performer she was! I feel really sad about her passing away.
Wish like anything that I would have been able (allowed, I should say!) to see Tina Turner in concert live! You are so fortunate to have gotten to! That would have been the experience of a lifetime, for sure. I believe that she retired from performing right around the time that I may have finally been free to do so, though. Or, perhaps while I was navigating life afterwards as a single mother.
There are so many times when we can’t do things we really want to for one reason or another. I guess we should be happy for the things we have, or are able to experience.
Tina Turner was amazing, I’m really happy I got to go to the concert.
I got distracted. I should have said that I’m sorry you never got to hear her live.
Recent purchases:
I received my Laura Mercier order today( consulted with online advisor) and I got orchid shadow stick( looks gorgeous and supposed to be good for green eyes, but I think it would be good for all eye colors, the lip crayon in Camille, ponytail brush which I didn’t NEED but I didn’t need these other items either.
Also received 2 dresses from Ann Taylor one is good and will go with the orchid shadow one was not as good and had the slit weirdly placed in the front?
Today( Sat) we attended a wedding with the ceremony outdoors right on the water. Here in NY we are enjoying some lovely weather.
Tomorrow, grilling and no idea Mon but happy to sleep, walk and read.
Wishing everyone a happy weekend and those in the states, an happy long weekend.
I don’t go to concerts but I love Broadway musicals and they are crazy expensive!
Ilene
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: WAY too much. I did some emotional spending this past week… but I know I will love everything I ordered!
Weekend plans: I need to rest due to health stuff.
Do you like attending concerts? Not really, I’m not into huge crowds and loudness in general. Smaller gatherings with live music can be very nice though.
