Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Not too much! The last PMG x Star Wars palette arrived.

Weekend plans: I’m going to help my mom make eggrolls later today, and then I’ll hang out with my family to play mah jong on Saturday.

How has your 2023 been so far? Good! I’m fostering newborn pups, which has kept me busy! 🙂

Psst… since it’s Friday and we’re heading into the weekend, if you have some downtime, consider playing one of the games hubby and I have created! 🙂 You’ll find all of our games on Awordy, but here’s a breakdown of what we have so far:

  • Adoptle (guess the name of an adoptable pet in six guesses)
  • Concludle (figure out the subject within six clues)
  • Mislettered (guess one letter at a time to figure out the phrase/quote)
  • Word Frenzy (find as many words from the letters available before the shark devours them)

This week's doggo photo/video...

Cute little newborn pups! 🥰
Nothing like homemade eggrolls! My friend Maila used to make those with shrimp and/or pork along with the usual veggies on the rare occasion when she had a little extra time.

Purchases/rediscoveries: Ordered Pat McGrath’s Bronze Borealis quad a WEEK ago, and still NOTHING! Not a shipping notification or anything! The main reason I went for it besides it being on sale was because even though rather “done a million times before” color compilation, it’s one that I knew I would reach for more often. Also ordered another jar of Youth To The People Eye Dream eye cream.

Weekend plans: Other than my Zoom meeting tomorrow, I’m not sure of anything else? If the USP Office is open a little late tomorrow (possibly this afternoon?) , I have two packages to get out. One is a return to Zulily for the worst put together sweater that I believe I ever got. Disappointed doesn’t even begin to cover my feelings over it.

How has 2023 been for you so far? Uneventful, but in a very depressing way. The other night, I was awake until 6 a.m. just crying and unable to sleep thinking about the fact that 37 years ago on January 7th, I found out that I was pregnant with what would become my son. How overjoyed I was. How miraculous my getting pregnant without any medical treatment was (PCOS caused major fertility issues). How when he was born, I knew that I had never loved anyone so much in my entire life. And that now he despises me so much that he not only cut off communication with me, but doesn’t even want his estranged wife to let me spend time with my 2 granddaughters, and played such a cruel, heartless trick on me the day before my surgery last March. Everything just hit me HARD Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

Genevieve Avatar

I absolutely do feel for you Nancy – and how much power and control he still has over his estranged wife to not allow your grand daughters to visit – is she afraid of him? Can I say he may well be his father’s son?
Playing games with you before major surgery is despicable and no wonder you are feeling so raw at this point in time. Let’s pray that one day he will see sense and that one day your grand daughters will be able to make up their own mind and visit you.
On a much happier note – Bronze Borealis is the ONE quad from PMG that I am lusting after, but I probably have too many dupes for the shades. But I do think it is beautiful. I hope it arrives soon for you.

Nancy T Avatar

Yes, Genevieve, I do believe that he is his father’s son, too! Seems like for a little too long, I couldn’t see it when his complaints and/or anger weren’t aimed at me, because he KNEW that I believed everything he told me. And so, I missed the huge, glaring red flags showing up. Perhaps, I just didn’t want to see him in that light. But, now I do, unfortunately. I can now see how he even pitted his wife and I against each other by only telling us each the “bad” about the other. Plus, things I’ve come to learn that I won’t even write about. He’s not who I thought he was.

Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: The ELF glow screen dupe and their HFF dupe. my low buy continues but I needed new sunscreen and was excited to try this one. I wonder how many years of low buying constitutes a change in habits. I will always want to buy stuff, so I don’t think I will ever get to no buy.

Weekend plans: clean my apartment, get my art station organized, go to the produce market across town

How has your 2023 been so far? Good in most ways. I have really been beyond fed up with the drug company that makes the DMT I take for MS. Stress and anxiety can trigger all kinds of symptoms yet here this company making this $85K that you have to jump through to get without selling a kidney or something. It is very disheartening and more so when I remember that I am not even on one of the top 20 most expensive drugs in the US. I am actually massively lucky in that it is depressingly hard to get the drug without going broke–not everyone has that privilege. I joked with my husband the other day that this is my Joker origin story. I already have a lot of empathy and sympathy for people with chronic conditions and still I find more every day. It is hard, and we suffer alone so much. Anyway for 2023 I really wish it was easier for all of us, I want a soft, gentle, kind year this year.

Genevieve Avatar

I can’t believe Stephanie that you have so much trouble accessing the the medication you need. Here in Australia we have the PBS – Public Benefit Scheme, whereby medications of need are generally only $39-42, with those on health benefits – get it for $10 or so. If we can do it, your country should too.
Chronic conditions such as yours cannot be trifled with and I hope you can access your medication soon. A kinder year is so necessary.

Those puppies are just adorable – and they are really just like crawling babies too – because you have to make sure that there are no obstacles that they can hurt themselves with as they explore their world.
You must be feeling pretty tired Christine with all the day and night feeds. The little bubba’s look quite healthy to me.

Recent Purchases: I went into the MAC store yesterday and after looking at a few blushes, I decided to get Fleur Power – the matte finish and the shade seemed to work on my skintone. They retail for $46 here, so I hope it turns out to be the right one for me.

Rediscoveries: ABH Sultry – such a lovely palette.

Weekend Plans: Lachlan and Harry are coming over to spend the weekend with us whilst their parents are doing a ‘hard rubbish’ – cleaning out their home and getting rid of any unwanted furniture or broken toys/games etc. Our local council permits you to have two hard rubbish collections per year.
Olivia will be up with the horses at her other grandparent’s property this weekend.
The trouble is that it’s going to be quite hot for the next fortnight or so, so I am taking them to a park early tomorrow morning to beat the heat.

How has 2023 been so far? So far, it’s been pretty good – a few very hot days and some cooler ones to make up for it. But the real heat is starting from now on. At least it’s not going to be 40 Deg C.

Recent purchases: nothing (I keep planning to get out to Sephora and Shoppers for indulgent stuff and necessary stuff but between the gym and my kids at home and wanting to spend as much time as possible with them, I just haven’t made the effort). Rediscoveries: the ancient UD 15th Anniversary palettet – does anyone else have and still use that treasure – what a great palette that is/was. Also Sephora Lipstories in Matinee…I’m starting to like it much more than I did when I first got it.

Weekend plans: gym tomorrow (and maybe a quick trip to Sephora, at last, but I doubt it) and then daughter, son in law and grand daughter are coming over for an early dinner. Sunday might be the day I actually DO get to the mall, after the gym.

How’s 2023 so far: hectic (all the kids home plus their friends dropping by almost non stop…I feel like we need a revolving door and maybe 2 extra sofas…but I absolutely love it!) I’m over the dreadful pneumonia/respiratory infection I had and my knee, while still painful, especially at night, and not back to full function, is pretty near there. Hoping to return to working maybe 2 mornings a week next month and seeing how that goes. And the weather hasn’t been too bad.

Genevieve Avatar

Thank goodness you’ve been able to celebrate the New Year without your horrid chest infection and I guess your knee is so painful of a night time is because you’ve been the scullery maid (again). But it’s worth it to have your family around you.
I bet bubba was the big hit on Christmas Day and she would have been quite tired (maybe cranky) the next.
Take care at the gym Mariella – you don’t want to aggravate your knee anymore and I hope in the coming week you get to go to Sephora.

Recent Purchases: The ND Mini Pastel palette (love), the Farmacy Halo Glow Moisturizer (it smells like honey, it’s so wonderful).

Rediscoveries: Nothing in particular!

Weekend plans: taking down the Christmas tree, putting together a desk and bookshelf and finding a place for my sons toys he got for Christmas.

How has your 2023 been so far?

Genevieve Avatar

That is always the challenge – where to put the new toys? My son and DIL have just had a massive clean out and found the summer clothes for a 2 year old (great for Harry), all his baby clothes (for the new one coming in early July) and tossed a stack of old clothes and toys.
Aniika (my DIL) loves the Autumn Rose lipstick from Flower Beauty and thanks you for wearing it in one of your Insta posts on Best look of the Week.

Seraphine Avatar

Recent Purchases: I bought a belt, a tarot deck (Oak Ash & Thorn), and a novel (The Drowning Kind), but no new makeup.

Weekend Plans: Going out to dinner with friends, visiting family, planning a girl’s trip with two close friends, and relaxing.

How has your 2023 been so far? Not too good. Tons of computer problems at work, lost a bunch of documents when the hard drive failed. Put on 8 pounds over the holidays that I am struggling to get rid of now. I’m hoping this is just a rough start to a good year.

Seraphine Avatar

Thanks, Genevieve. I’m planning to retire sometime before the end of the year (haven’t decided on an exact date yet), so I just have to get through the next 9 to 10 months or so.

Rachel R. Avatar

The puppies are so stinkin’ cute!!! I want to cuddle and kiss them. ❤️

RECENT PURCHASES: None. Hubby got me the PMG x Star Wars large palette, Darth Vader palette, and R2D2 palette as late Christmas gifts, and they arrived yesterday. Last week I forget to mention I got Viseart Petits Fours Palettes in Lilas Deux and Violetta as Christmas gifts.

WEEKEND PLANS: Hopefully, take down the Christmas tree. Grocery shopping. Laundry.

HOW HAS YOUR 2023 BEEN SO FAR?
OK; no big disasters yet. The household had a cold virus run through it. I’m waiting for my turn. Some frustrations getting medication I need due to shortages and uncooperative insurance when the doctor prescribed a substitute. I might have it resolved now. I should know more by Monday.🤞

Genevieve Avatar

What lovely Christmas presents your family gave you! I hope you are having fun with them.
Hopefully Rachel – this will make you laugh. My husband’s reading glasses broke – could they be fixed he asked me (I have NO idea) and suggested he go to the local optometrist I go to. Off we go. Hmmm said the optician, haven’t seen these kind of frames for awhile. Nope says dear Husband – I have had them for 10 YEARS. She nearly falls off her chair in shock. The optomotrist next to her suppresses a wry smile. I am behind him shaking my head. How long ago were your eyes tested, she asked. Hmm not sure replies my husband.
It turns out that it has been 15 years since his eyes were tested. OMG
Needless to say his eyes were tested, yes they had changed and yes he needed new glasses. How hopeless men are about taking care of themselves!!!
