Recent Purchases: nothing this week!

Rediscoveries: I pulled out my BH Cosmetics Blueberry Muffin palette today for the first time in a while. It’s such a nice palette.

Weekend plans: Driving up to see my mom and have a girls day with her. I can’t wait!

How do you get cozy when the temperatures cool down? Comfy socks and sweaters and soft blankets. I love when the weather cools down.

Recent purchases: I had to go to Sephora to exchange the Huda Power Matte lipstick (Prom Night) that I bought last week because when I opened it, the lipstick was separated from the base. Well, I can never leave Sephora without buying something, so I picked up another Huda Power Matte shade: Board Meeting. Because I have no willpower when it comes to lipstick.

Rediscoveries: Urban Decay Ultimate Basics palette…an oldie that I’m just getting back into. The shades blend so beautifully!

Weekend Plans: Visiting family, working on my music, miscellaneous chores and errands, and exchanging a pair of pants that I bought for one size smaller (yay!).

How do you get cozy when the temperature cools down? Get under my favorite faux fur weighted blanket.

Recent purchases: I’m so excited – I went to Winners in hopes of finding a few more tubes of MAC Craving but no luck. However, I did find the Boscia facial cleanser I like so much and have used for many years. Sephora no longer carries Boscia and I’d no idea where I’d find it again. I’d been trying to find a replacement – Fenty, Laneige and several others, all of which were good but none that I liked as much as the Boscia one. Well, yesterday, I came across 3 bottles of it (and 2 or 3 of the black, “warming” one as well) and I grabbed two of the 3 and the price was amazing – $12.99 each (I think they retail for over $30 each on Boscia’s site and that’s US and not including exchange and shipping). I was thrilled! I AM thrilled!

Weekend plans: gym tomorrow and then my cousin is coming in to my city do drive his partner and her harp to a concert here so he’s going to try to drop by; Sunday, brunch with hubs and a friend and then we’re driving to Toronto to visit my parents’ and my dear aunts’ graves (and we’re dropping the friend we’re brunching with in Toronto as well since she’s meeting up with her sister).

How do I get cozy when the temperatures cool down? We still have a wood burning fireplace in our family room – nothing feels or smells as cozy! Fleece jackets or fleece blankets (we have several) or a wool shawl are all instant coziers, as are my woolen work socks and sheepskin slippers. My daughter got me some great fingerless gloves a few years ago and they too are surprisingly wonderful.

Patience is a virtue, they say, so Winnie has a major plus going for him!

Purchases/rediscoveries: No purchases. Rediscovered my little ND Gold Mini yesterday and wore my MAC Paramount, as yesterday had a slight autumn feel to it!

Weekend plans: Nothing planned other than tomorrow morning’s Zoom meeting. Would love to be able to get out and do something fun and interesting on Sunday, though.

How do you get cozy when the temperatures cool down? Hot cocoa, making homemade soup, wrapping myself up in my really nice throw blanket with faux shearling lining and bringing out my sweaters, hoodies, and flannels. And, for going out, my leather jacket. I’m really hoping that we do cool off earlier than usual since we had an unusually cooler, wetter summer! But, I sure do miss having a REAL Autumn with beautiful leaf colors, morning frost, smelling people’s fireplace smoke and occasional misty days.

Yes, Mariella, I sure do! As all the longtimers here know, I’ve been banging on about moving back to New Jersey…well, it’s beginning to look more like Ohio where my daughter and grandson are. Then, I really will be a nearby “neighbor”! I asked my daughter about the availability of 1 BR 1 Bath cottages, she knew of none offhand, but mentioned Zillow and a few other sites. My heart will always be in NJ, but sometimes we need to be open to something very new, don’t we?

I actually have my eye on LA Girl Eyeliners. I can’t use ingredients like a couple volatile silicones and these seem to fit in my criteria. Plus, so affordable.

Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: I was going through my drawers and rediscovered my MAC Sculpt and MAC Harmony. Waiting on some cream blushes that I ordered but order hasn’t even been processed.

Weekend Plans: Lots of cleaning and laundry. Hopefully, a beach walk.

How do you get cozy when the temperatures cool down? Blankets and socks. Longer sleeves and sweaters.

Winnie is so cute with the pups – just lying lhere, letting them jump all over him.

Recent Purchases: Our local budget beauty store Priceline has its big sale on selected fragrances and I picked up a couple of my favourite EL perfumes: Youth Dew and Spellbound, plus another bottle of The Ordinary’s Moroccan Argon oil (that I can’t live without) and Maybelline’s Red for Me lipstick – which is stunning.
Rediscoveries: Still using the Temptalia On the Horizon palette and my SG singles.

Weekend Plans: We’ve had an extended long weekend here in Melbourne – the National Day of Mourning for the Queen’s passing on Thursday, the Grand Final day parade on Friday and today, Saturday, is the Grand Final match in our code of football (AFL) which is a uniquely Australian game. The match will be played this afternoon.
I don’t have any real plans as I have developed a cold (thanks to Harry sneezing all over me), so I will probably rest a bit this weekend.

Getting cozy when the weather cools down: I just love it when the weather cools down after a long, hot summer. I have my favourite throw on the couch of an evening and I start thinking about turning on the electric blanket of a night time.

Genevieve Avatar

Thank you Rachel, but it has now turned into a raging ear infection and I had to seek a medical practice that was open on Grand Final Day. Fortunately one was open near to me and I have now a big bottle of antibiotics to get through. My earache has subsided a bit but I still have clogged sinuses and a sore throat.
A big nuisance!

My mom wore Youth Dew when I was a kid and I thought it was VILE. But in recent years, I’ve wanted to give it a try and I bought a bottle about a month ago. I was surprised by a few things, not the least of which was how inexpensive it was compared to other fragrances. It’s also much less heavy and “oriental” than I recall it but I think it has been reformulated over the decades. I would love to find the bath oil format of it but I think that is no longer available. With “Sweater Weather” on the horizon, it’s perfect to add to my grouping of cold weather scents.

Last Monday was our “official” day of mourning for the Queen but only Federal employees got the day off. Everyone else was “free to observe a minute of silence at 1:00 pm local time…” I think that option would have made much more sense for everyone because I honestly can’t see federal employees actually doing anything special to honour her late Majesty. At school, we had an announcement just before 1 pm alerting staff and students to the time and giving them the option (we have lots of First Nations students and there are ongoing issues with the damaging after-effects of colonialization and Residential Schools so the announcement included information that there was support available in our Nya Weh room for any students for whom this is triggering anxiety, etc.)

Genevieve Avatar

I use to think that Youth Dew was pretty awful too until a former teaching colleague of mine wore it at a recent get together. I do think the formula has changed because I really liked it – a softer spicey scent it is now. And every now and again Priceline has it for a relatively inexpensive price. I also quite like Sensuous, Knowing and White Linen from the range too.
As far as the Mourning Day for the Queen went – there are those that still want Australia to be part of the Constitutional Monarchy, there are also those who want a republic, but still remain within the Commonwealth and those who have very mixed feelings about it all. Our history with our First Nations people is quite appalling with respect to the effects of colonization and our Stolen Generation too.

I bought White Linen just as we were leaving for our honeymoon about 300 years ago! For a long time, it was one of my warm weather fragrances but it was never really a favourite and I haven’t worn it in decades though I still have a bottle of it in the back of a cupboard. Every time I smell it, it evokes such strong memories of my honeymoon. I’ve not tried the other Lauder scents except for Beautiful, which I have as a body lotion (I bought it from the $19.99 shelf at Shoppers Drug Mart, thinking it was the fragrance spray; it’s still pretty nice and aptly named).

I don’t think there’s any really strong movement here in Canada to leave the Commonwealth though there are plenty of individuals – rather than an organized political movement – who don’t see the point and don’t understand why any of our tax money should be going to support the Royal Family or pay for their security, etc. while they are here in Canada. But who knows what the next few years will hold…

Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Received my first order from Quicksand Cosmetics and so far the makeup seem great!
Weekend plans: Family dinner tomorrow, and hanging with friends Sunday!

Recent Purchases: Paula’s Choice order, mostly re-stocking products I almost finished: CLEAR Purifying Clay Mask, Omega+ Complex Cleansing Balm, CLEAR Extra Strength Anti-Redness Exfoliating Solution With 2% Salicylic Acid (mini), RESIST Skin Restoring Moisturizer with SPF 50 (mini to use as hand cream on the go), CLEAR Extra Strength Daily Skin Clearing Treatment with 5% Benzoyl Peroxide (mini), Smooth Finish Conditioner

Rediscoveries: How wonderful is MAC Satin Taupe

Weekend plans: I do hope I won’t wake up again in sweets and trembling…. 😆 If I’m feeling good enough I would love to go hiking on Saturday and to the local opera on Sunday (they run a a version of “The Wedding of Figaro” set in India).

How do you get cozy when the temperatures cool down? Sweaters!

Sarah Avatar

I haven’t purchased anything lately, but I’ve been really thinking that I’m 32 and need to start a skincare regime ASAP.

My weekend plans are to do some art this evening, maybe make banana bread, and tomorrow will be some chores like laundry and my boyfriend and I will probably go fishing in the evening.

How do I stay warm? Hoodies and slipper socks. And the giant sherpa-lined blanket I have — it even has a hood!

Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: No new purchases. This isn’t really a rediscovery so much as a straight-up discovery, but I finally got around to using a Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Forever sample from an old Sephora order, and I absolutely hated it! I’ve worn other fragrances that are somewhat citrus-heavy and not minded them, but I think Light Blue Forever is just too one-note citrusy to appeal to me.

Weekend plans: Weekly grocery run Friday, worked all day yesterday, not much today.

How do you get cozy when the temperatures cool down? Turn off the AC, turn up the heat as needed, sweaters, blankets.
