Mellan and his toys. His face says there’s always room for more mom!

Haul: I’m trying to edit my Ulta cart down to something more manageable to use the 20% coupon (the things I’ll need to refill in the very near future). Gorgeous Cosmetics just sent me a 30% off and Tarte has 30% off too. MUST.RESIST.
Weekend plans: Sleeping in and eating..2 of my favorite things. Really need to get a outfit for Studio 54 theme & Halloween for October’s cruise..I only have 60 days left 😮
Vintage or modern: depends on my mood

Ashley M Avatar

I am going out to dinner tonight with my girlfriend and so I decided to do a bit of a heavier eye makeup so I can touch-up and transition to from work. I FINALLY tried out the Maybelline Color Tattoo 24 hr eyeshadow, which I’m seeming to like so far. I used Chocolate Suede from the Leather collection. I am a NC15 natural redhead and I adore this shade for a darker look. It’s not too much color, I applied all over my lid and then blended with UD Naked and used UD Booty Call as a highlight. I then lined with a 24/7 pencil chocolate colored liner from UD (don’t recall the name). I even went a bit further from just adding mascara, I went as far as applying natural false lashes.

Haul: NUTTIN’. I’m going back to school soon, so I’m trying to pay down all my credits cards to have it cleared out by the end of the month. That means behaving myself. 😛
Weekend plans: High school reunion on Saturday, and after that I’m headed off to camp with a friend. I’m also getting my hair bleached white blonde on Monday. I figure I’m heading into my thirties into a few years, so I need to get all my daring hair styles out of the way now. 😛
Vintage or modern: I like a mix of both! I love the vintage style dresses because I find they flatter my hourglass shape more, but I like to update it with a touch of the minimalist chic that made me fall in love with Chanel when I was younger.

A. Mar Avatar

Haul: Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer, Clinique Cheek Pop in Plum Pop, Hourglass Ambient Blush in Dim Infusion.
Weekend plans: Writing, buying flowers and eating cherries. A lazy weekend.
Vintage or modern: Modern.

Mariella Avatar

Haul: Nothing! (poor me!)
Weekend plans: it’s the Civic Holiday weekend here so we’re heading to the family cottage for a get together (something I hate but ever year, I go and actually end up having a good time) and then getting together with friends for golf and dinner. In actual fact, I’d really like to stay home and kick back!

Vintage or modern – BOTH. I like the mix of old stuff and new or new made from old (I’m eyeing a table made from beams from an old distillery near where my late father used to work….)

Christine Avatar

Have a lovely time at the cottage ’cause I know you’ll make the best of it and have a good time 🙂 My husband loves to golf, but I’m pretty awful at anything that requires hand/eye coordination (aka any sport).

Is it a dining table or a smaller, side table? I love the look of a lot of the reclaimed wood/harvest tables that seem to be in every decor mag/show these days.

Lily Avatar

Mellan looks so cute with all his toys. xoxo for him from me and the boys!
PC Skin care is all I purchased this week.
Relax and spend time with the boys and my hubby.
Modern
Have a great weekend Christine.

Weekend plans: clean up backyard. just think about it make me feel tired already! LOL
Vintage or modern: Vintage! I love vintage pictures and everything

Haul: Sleek Arabian Nights and Storm palettes. Still can’t get over how reasonable the shipping was!
Weekend plans: writing all the papers ever. Seriously, I have like 3 to write. On top of thesis T_T
Vintage or Modern: Oh, vintage, easily.

I love Mellan’s expression. He’s like: ‘What stuffed animals?’ 😀

LU Avatar

I wish listed it for so long but never saw it in person. On Tuesday I went to Sephora Soho and they have a MUFE Boutique in there, so I bought it immediately, LOL. So far I use it (and bought it for this purpose) to set my liquid foundation by buffing in powder foundation. I was using my Hakuhodo J104 but it was too soft to really pick up any pressed powder and there was definitely no buffing action with that brush. I’m loving the 126, it’s sooooo soft. I hope to discover more uses for it. 🙂

LU Avatar

Yes, I read that you prefer the patting motion/feeling of it. I like buffing in everything for some reason, so round brushes seem better for that. I usually spray UD Deslick right after, and then use the J104 with UD Naked Loose Finishing Powder, oily skin problems I tell ya!

liz Avatar

Haven’t hauled anything yet this week, cause the rental car company ate all of my spending money this week. I might head down to Ulta today to (FINALLY) take advantage of my employee discount. I have my eye on the new Benefit liner and a bottle of UD Naked skin, but we’ll see.

Weekend plans are RELAXING. I have today and tomorrow off and I am going to do nothing but take care of housework and play video games. This month has been RIDICULOUS and I need a tiny vacation.

I tend to prefer a blend of vintage and modern. Classic, if you will.

liz Avatar

Probably Thomas Was Alone. I might also head to the library to download and install a few more like Skyrim and Age of Empires II cause my internet at home is TERRIBLE.

SmitaRoy Avatar

Haul- Sebastian hair shampoo and conditioner; MAC blacktrack fluidline; Clinique chubby stick in heftiest hibiscus and Moisture Surge- wow now that I listed it, it feels a bit too much for this week??
Weekend plans- brunching with husband and friends; some blog pictures may be
vintage/modern- probably just me, but this time definitely modern…everything modern and luxurious 🙂
have a great weekend Christine….

Debra Avatar

Haul: MAC Splurge Mineralize Rich lipstick (love it!); Dior Rouge Dior in Darling (the color was made for me but I think it’s universally flattering); Tarte eyeliner in black & bronze (only at Sephora, whew, cause F&F at Tarte popped up later!); and Bobbi Brown Cream Eye Shadow in Bone (a good basic that I use as an eyelid primer).

Weekend plans: Go with Dear Daughter to Aveda for her haircut; then shopping/looking (shopping means buying, looking means writing down on our list yes/no for future buying); BBQ on Sunday. Fit in some rest after a long hot week of writing and creating and just getting through the heat wave!

Vintage or Modern: In between. I like modern with a vintage twist!

Happy Birthday to your family celebrants!

And Mellan might not be looking for more toys as much as Someoine to help him play with them! You must enjoy pampering such an adorable sweet dog.

Christine Avatar

It’s going to be a hot weekend here, too! We might pop into my parents’ pool when we visit this weekend if it remains this hot.

He’s the kind of dog that doesn’t like to play by himself, but he doesn’t really want me to DO anything except watch him play. His favorite game is keep away basically… where he runs back and forth with his toy in his mouth. Occasionally, he likes to drop his toy down the stairs and watch it tumble to the bottom.

Haul: It’s been a flurry over the past month, or so, but I’ve managed to acquire UD Electric, KvD Chrysallis & Monarch palettes, a few Sonia Kashuk eye brushes, NYX lipstick (Chaos, Snow White, a nude, and Black Sesame Macaron lipstick), a couple of nail polishes (OPI Lubu Heels was one, which I absolutely LOVE!), Ardency Inn Custom Color Concentrate & Skinfood Broccoli Sun Cream (HG combo for Summer!), NARS Wishful Thinking, NARS Multiples in Riviera, Mustique, Antibes, & Sumatra (the last 3 are DC’d, but I got them on eBay at good prices), a couple of Physicians Formula powders from the “Nude” collection, and I’m sure there were probably a couple of other things…

Plans: My little one is turning 8 this weekend, so we’re going out to a mall she’s never been to (it’s what she wants to do!), and letting her pick out a present to go along with what we’ve already bought her. While we’re there, I plan to check out Sephora & their Becca stock…

Vintage or Modern?: I’m loving the Boho-Chic trend right now, and look forward to its resurgence every few years! I’ll take black, flowy lace any day! I need to actually pause on the makeup, and buy some clothes (although I really don’t *need* either, LOL!)…

xamyx Avatar

I’m not loving the texture, which is very light & doesn’t feel like it has set-almostn”slippery” (which is what I don’t like about MAC lipstick), *but* it mixes well with other lipsticks, which is the main reason I bought it. Although it is a bit “splotchy”, it’s quite pigmented, and the pale grey color really mutes my nudes that are too peachy/orange/warm. The display was picked over, but I plan to pick upnthe black & white soon, and maybe the purples.

Haul: I was bad and placed a sale order with Illamasqua, but 3 foundations for $30CAN I could not pass up. Lipstick in Test, Lipstick Palette (Fable, Plunge, Over, and Corrupt), False Eye Lashes in Lush, False Eye Lashes No. 12 (x2) (think mercury poisoning orange lol) and the Perfect Mix Gift Set that comes with the White, 11, and exclusive dark Skin Base foundation in it.

Weekend plans: Spent the morning putting in 3 post holes. Digging the last 5 for the rest of the week… we better get them done!

Vintage or modern: Vintage

Haul: It’s my birthday Tuesday AND I’m moving to gradschool. What haven’t I hauled?
Weekend Plans: Actually doing the planning for the conference I’m helping run next week.
Vintage or Modern: Which ever functions more practically.

Kelsey Avatar

Haul: I was a BAD girl this week… I had to restock my kit for a shoot so get ready for this…
-MAC: Green room shadow, deeply dashing pressed pigment, naked lunch and omega shadows, emphasize and soft focus shaping powders, light and medium conceal and correct palettes, metal spatula, plastic bottles and spray head, chromaline pencil nc15/20, fix plus travel size, eyeliner mix medium, luxury puffs, mascara wands.
-Illimasqua: cream pigment in hollow, cream blush in… I forget the shade. coral pink of some sort. cake liner, sealing gel, white foundation, foundation for me, foundation for my bestie, matte primer for my bestie (and for spending so much cash, a free mini “Freak” pefume)
-Sephora: Naked 2, FAB ultra repair cream tube for my purse.
-Shoppers Drug: covergirl clump crusher mascara, another covergirl mascara the name of which escapes me, tissues, revlon lip laquer in some dark red shade
-Walmart: 2 pairs of natural false lashes (which I didn’t end up using grrrr) and a pack of individual lashes.
Weekend plans: My Man is coming home from a month long work trip so probably a whole lot of nothing with him. Laundry.
Vintage or modern: Modern makeup, vintage everything else.

Kelsey Avatar

It was for a t shirt company’s promo shots for their website. Very soft and natural looks. I got paid in product since Stila sent them a small fortune in free products. I took home a colour correcting serum, vinyl lip gloss in fuchsia, and a stunning cream blush also in fuchsia. A girl I worked for last year owns the company so I helped her out.

Lisa Avatar

Haul: I ended up going a little crazy this week buying clothes -mostly from Modcloth- and indulging a tiny bit in the Nordstrom sale. However, I behaved myself when it came to makeup. I just bought the Lorac Pro 2 since I had a 20% off coupon. It’s funny because I bought the first one with a similar coupon!
Weekend Plans: Sleeping hopefully and I’ll probably dye my hair.
Vintage or Modern: I’m going to have to go with both; I especially like when the two mix. But I guess if I have to choose, then vintage.

CatG Avatar

Haul: I actually RETURNED makeup this week! (The It Cosmetics Naturally Pretty palette)
Weekend plans: Going out to dinner with my family tonight, family breakfast tomorrow!
Vintage or modern: Vintage style jewelry 😛

CatG Avatar

The pigmentation really disappointed me, even with my HD primer couldn’t create enough contrast within my looks for anything that didn’t look muddy or like a muted grey tone. The eyeshadows also faded a lot over time and even creased, which I don’t tend to have a problem with. I was so disappointed!

Been obsessed with Lipsticks! Just picked up a Maybelline vivid in Infra-Red.. but that’s it for awhile! Just $5, gotta love it.
And this may be geeky to some, but I just wanted to drop you a note Christine, that I absolutely adore your site. It’s so informative and helpful, and I get so much use out of your dupe and swatch galleries… they work incredibly well and have really helped me pick items that are unique to my collection or to pass on others I was considering. I haven’t gotten one miss from anything I bought after reading about it on your site, which speaks volumes! Even when you get a c/o item or there’s a giveaway or anything like that, I never feel like I’m reading an advertisement or that your site has lost integrity, everything is clearly stated and above-board so I feel like i can trust what you write… a lot of blogs lose me with sponsored posts and things of that nature, but your point-of-view is matter-of-fact and unbiased, and I love that! Your replies to readers are always good-natured and encouraging, and even if they have something nasty to say to say to you, you don’t lose your cool lol and reply as diplomatically as possible. So, to complete my fangirl moment, thank you Christine for the work that you do for all of us who love and use makeup on a daily basis 🙂 Happy Friday to you!

Christine Avatar

Maybelline Vivids are AMAZING, $5 or not, but the budget-friendly price point is really just icing on the cake!

Thank you so much! I really appreciate you taking the time to write in 🙂 I’m very, very selective about what kind of sponsored posts/opportunities we do, and I’m a big believer in finding something that creates value for both readers and the brand (e.g. building a custom Swatch Gallery, creating a tutorial, etc.) and keeping product reviews completely separate from sponsored content. It helps that I still buy a fair amount products that I review, so I never confine the blog to what I’ve received – it is more about what readers are most interested in or if there’s something that’s really exciting to me. Basically, I operate from “is it good for my readers?” and go from there. Thank you so much for acknowledging that 🙂

Have a great weekend! Rock that Infra-red!

Haul: Vitabath Spring Green Shower Gelee and Lotion (can’t buy it here, had to order).

Weekend plans: My oldest friend’s birthday is today and mine is in two weeks so Sunday we’re going to Sephora’s VIB EVENT for our annual birthday makeup splurge (not that we need ANYTHING).

Vintage or Modern: Both. It depends on the day and mood.

Donna Avatar

It’s a product that I used when I was in my 20s that is so fresh and green scented. I can’t even remember where I used to buy it but I know that is not sold in any store here. I found it again by accident at Marshall’s a couple of years ago and of course they never had it again. The lotion is moisturizing without being greasy and the shower gel is not drying at all. It also does not make me sneeze like many perfumed products.

Ammara Avatar

Well I’m waiting on an order for a Milani Shadoweyez in Almond Cream and Wet n Wild’s lipstick in Cherry Bomb. I wanted a bordeaux lipstick and actually consulted one of your posts about top bordeaux lipsticks and a lot of people recommended it, so I figured why not? Since the more expensive ones were either not the shade I want or were patchy. It’s really a tough colour to find, that and an orange coral shade like Revlon Mischievous.
Plans are to study, study, study since I have exams in two weeks.
Vintage and modern mix. It all depends on the item.

Amanda Avatar

Haul: The Body Shop Instablur Primer & Vitamin C Face Spray, Anastasia Brush #12 (dual-ended angled and spoolie for brows), Tarte BB Tinted Treatment Primer, Clinique Repairwear Intensive Lip Treatment, MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack (I finally repurchased!), ELF HD Blush in Superstar.
Weekend plans: Nothing much. Relaxing, blogging, catching up on TV!
Vintage or modern: Modern

Chris25 Avatar

Haul: I needed new sleepwear and other clothing. I ordered pajama bottoms, shirts, and a really cute Spense dress in mint green with flowers on the lower half of it. I also got 2 Ann Taylor skirts, a light blue beaded top, and a teal satin camisole.

Weekend plans: On Friday I went to a rally for Gaza. Today and tomorrow is research, organizing my notes for this paper and reading “There Was a Country” by Chinua Achebe.

Vintage or modern?: This is a little tough. I’m a sucker for vintage makeup and vintage finds, so I’m going to say vintage! However, I do love modern technology. 🙂

Nicole Avatar

Haul: Nothing makeup related. I am continuing my makeup no-buy.
Weekend plans: Looking for a lamp for my bathroom and other furniture for my bedroom and walking closet.
Vintage or modern: Modern!

KJH Avatar

There is no cuter lab in North America! And he’s such good + patient boy. I always want to say my weekend plans are to snug with him!

No makeup haul. Got Peterman (yes, he’s real, reincarnated + looks NOTHING like John O’hurley!) 2 white polo shirts + 2 lined hoodies navy/green. when i got the yellow one (yellow beetle car matchy matchy 50s-60s girl) i knew i had to have the others. + my white polos were beyond threadbare. lots of us elders are resorting to men’s stuff: longer short sleeves to cover the flaws.

i’m so old, vintage isn’t vintage to me! Peterman is + he’s the only retailer (besides cafe press in Hokusai + black + tan dachshund apparel) i’ve bought since …well, ages. i wore only java wraps (80s, apparently) for a couple of weeks. everybody loves ’em. all cotton. batik from indonesia made in the virgin is. work people say the quality has gone out of contemporary clothing. i know these things have faded some, but they really hold up + are cheerful. I personally think it’s a riot to wear clothes to work that are older than any of my coworkers. there are java wrap rip-offs around, but they’re mostly rayon + i’m a fiber snob. I guess vintage is ‘before your time,’ so that means WWII + earlier for me. and i’m there for the besame lips, like i NEED any more red lipsticks…

Darling Mellan and his toys!
Haul, I was really bad this week, I went to Sephora, they had a take two pay for one on the remaining things from the sale, So I got some things I reall had not planned on getting. Then I went to two MAC counters, at the first they did have the Moody Blooms, we are SO behind in launches here.
So this is what I got:
At Sephora,
Caudalie Eau de Beauté
Sampar Vivid Radiance Serum and Splendid Eyes Elation (on sale)
Sisley eye shadows in Gold, Pearl,Burgundy and Ultra Violet (on sale)
A shimmery, coral – copper lipgloss, I can’t find a name or number on it. Hold Me Tight eye shadow and, and this is your fault, Christine, My Boyfriend’s Jeans, 20% off on those items
At MAC
Eye shadows in Blooming Mad, Hidden Motive, Green Room, Scene, Idol Eyes, Crystal and Sketch.
Bred for Beauty blusher, Fluidline in Blacktrack and I wasn’t the only one buying that this week, I saw 🙂 Lipstic in Phosphor and my first ever MAC mascara and it’s quite good, I think
I also got my two brush sets from Real Techniques, and the Glossybox arrived with a nice lipstick from Bellapierre in CherryPOP, a gold eyeliner pencil from Elisabeth Mott an eyeshadow brush from Teeeze, a mini Seche Vite and a face mask from Scalpure.
I’m still waiting for my last order from MUG.
I think this was the haul of the year, I can’t see me geeting this mad again soon, at least I hope not 🙂

Weekend, nothing really, just relaxing, getting through my e-mails as I’m a bit behind with them and get Stubbs a well needed trimming. he got a good shower today, he doesn’t enjoy it, but he stays calmly in the bathtub.

Vintage or modern, both.

Haul: Flower Beauty items that came highly recommended on Beautypedia: Lip Suede in Coral, Cream Blush in Azalea, and On Your Mark eyeliner; MAC Strobe Cream, and some Sonia Kashuk and Real Techniques brushes.

Weekend plans: Got a haircut (just a trim – trying to see how long I can get it, but I think it levels off at shoulder blade length) and going to the Sephora Beauty Event and then brunch with a friend.

Vintage or modern: I like the juxtaposition of a vintage item (clothing, furniture) with a modern one.

Aida Avatar

Haul: Bourjois Rouge Velvet Edition Personne Ne Rouge!, Chanel Les Beiges kabuki brush (I’ve been lusting after it for a year, so I finally caved), Urban Decay Pulp Fiction palette (so, so powdery, but applies nicely), Mario Badescu drying lotion.

Weekend plans: just taking it easy, lots of reading

Vintage or modern: modern

Annaham Avatar

Haul: UD Smog 24/7 Eyeliner Pencil, NYX Bloody Mary Matte Lipstick, Too Faced Melted Berry Liquid Lipstick (SO PRETTY)

Weekend plans: Netflix, probably. 😛

Vintage or modern: A little of both.
