Free for Haul Friday, Volume #207
Welcome to Free For Haul Friday!
- Haul: I had something coming, but right now, USPS says it was delivered (and I have a locked mailbox) and it never was 🙁
- Weekend plans: Clean house!
- Favorite indulgence?: Food, no doubt about that! Really nice dinner out with exceptional food!
Share your pet photos to the Temptalia Pets flickr group! 🙂
This week’s Mellan photo/video…
Let’s play!
Lambchop!? NOOOO!
He loves her!
Haul: Tarte Off The Cuff Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush Palette and Wet n Wild In The Spotlight Coloricon Eyeshadow Palette Collection.
Weekend plans: More sewing.
Favorite indulgence?: Food as well, eating out is very expensive even fast food up here.
I also feel indulgent buying fabric in person. There just something for fun about fabric shopping to me.
I might have to buy that blush palette!
Haul – MAC Divine lips and eye shadows
Weekend Plans – Eric Benet concert for Howard University Homecoming and Gospel Brunch Concert
Favorite Indulgence – A good T-bone steak, pasta or seafood dish (shrimp); a great hot stone body massage or pedicure.
Have fun at the concert, Chris!
I too have had a heck of a week with USPS. I have a big and potentially important wholesale order due really soon, and a package with very very important supplies was marked delivered when it never was. Now, I work from home. I tend to personally greet my mail person. I don’t know who it was delivered to, but it certainly wasn’t me. And, surprise of surprises, USPS is being super unhelpful about it.
But there’s a happy ending. The company I ordered from is awesome and replaced the entire order. Made me SUPER happy I kicked in an extra few bucks for insurance. I hope your story has a similar happy ending!
Oooh, Christina, I hope you can get your package soon 🙁
I’m having the same issue – I’m here ALL DAY LONG, it says DELIVERED (it wasn’t)… my mailbox is *locked*! Only USPS and ME have keys to it. I know for sure it would fit in my locked mailbox, too, and yet… not there.
I’m SO glad the company helped you out! I wish I could say the same for me – just a reminder to me that I will always get burned if I don’t get insurance.
Haul: I picked up the new Laura Mercier Artist’s palette on Sephora’s 20% off Friends and Family deal and theBalm’s Meet Matte Nude. I also picked up the two LE Chanel Illusion D’Ombres (Fatal and Initiation) and few Rouge Coco lipsticks. I’ve got high hopes for the Chanel Ombres Matelassees eyeshadow palette that will be out in a few weeks, and I’m also interested in the Dior Holiday 5-color palettes.
Weekend Plans: Going out of town for a family party 🙂
Favorite Indulgence: Makeup shopping!
I have my fingers crossed for Chanel’s eyeshadow palette, too!
How did you get a FF invite from Sephora? I have VIB status and I haven’t gotten anything yet. I hope they will do one at some point for their loyal customers. It’s annoying how they keep changing it every year and inevitably making it more complicated than it should be :\
If you know a Sephora employee, they’re allowed to invite via email for real friends/family 🙂
Christine, any plans to review the new Laura Mercier Artist’s Palette for Eyes? I’ve seen some good reviews pop up, but was really curious as to your thoughts before I decide whether to buy!
No, sorry, I don’t plan on buying it!
Mellan looks so guilty, haha 😀
Haul: Nothing so far, but I am waiting for a new pair of shoes to come in 🙂
Weekend plans: Date night with my man! Woohoo! It’s way overdue.
Favorite indulgence?: Chooooocolate.
What kind of shoes?
Haul : From MAC. Got Gleeful, gingerly and simmer blushes! 🙂 I don’t know why, but suddenly i am in a mood for a lot of blushes now! Someone help me 😀
Weekend Plans : Lot of Work ( I do comp science research!) 🙁
Favorite indulgence : Sat night dinner with friends! Make up and food absolutely 😀
Have fun with your new blushes, Chaitra!
…This is why I hate online shopping, and resent companies/brands that don’t provide another option. I’d be much more willing to hand over my cash for many products if I could by them in-store, and at a convenient location.
Haul: Nothing; I’m waiting for NARS/Bourdin to hit stores.
Plans: Taking my daughter to our local mall for some Halloween festivities; cleaning.
Indulgence: Makeup! Specifically, highlighters & contouring products.
I far, far prefer online shopping to in-store shopping personally, and I am, admittedly, VERY used to superior customer service like Nordstrom, Amazon, etc. so even if something goes missing or is damaged, it’s always immediately taken care of. I remember I had a $500+ order from Nordstrom that was delivered but I didn’t receive and they immediately sent everything out overnight – no charge, no fighting, nothing.
Haul: Rimmel London Lasting Finish by Kate Moss lipsticks in 09, 07, and the matte shade in 107, Giorgio Armani Lip Maestro in 201 Dark Velvet. Skipped out on the Z palette because I got creative and decided to try my mind at making my own. It actually turned out quit nice. Just have to finish depotting…ugh.
Weekend Plans: Hanging out with friends, organizing my room, catching up on chores, preparing for an interview on Wednesday. *fingers crossed*
Favorite indulgence? I go through spurts. Sometimes, I’m really into makeup. Sometimes fashion. Sometimes books. Sometimes games. It really depends on a number of factors. 🙂
Do you have pics? I wanna see your V palette 😉
My friend is actually borrowing my camera to get pictures of our vacation off, but I’ll try to post some here on Sunday. 🙂 I feel like I do need to photograph for posterity since I have the burnt, bruised knuckles and plastic fume damaged lungs to prove I did it! (THREE AND HALF HOURS DEPOTTING OH MY GOD.)
Yessss! We need pics! Hope you get it back soon!!
Veronica, same here! My favorite indulgence is whatever I happen to be obsessing over at the time! 🙂
Haul: Elf Disney Villains nail polish set, Anastasia brow powder in Ebony, Philosophy Purity Made Simple.
Plans: Laundry and continue to encourage my son to crawl. He’s almost there!
Indulgence: Coffee. CofFEE. COFFee. COFFEE!
How do you like your coffee?
At home, usually black. Sometimes I’ll add some Mini Moo’s half and half.
If I’m out, and go to a Coffee Bean, then I’ll get a vanilla ice blended with no added sugar and no whipped cream. Mmmm….
Ugh, I love Coffee Bean’s blended drinks. Thank goodness there are none within 2 hours of me!
Haul …. nothing … n m happy about that

Haul: Yesterday I picked up my free birthday gift at Sephora (the mini of Benefit They’re Real mascara and Watt’s Up highlighter) and my free birthday gift from Bare Minerals (it’s like a bronze loose eyeshadow). My mom gave me NYX Addis Ababa lip creme too! And since it was birthday since last Free for Haul Friday, I guess all that beauty stuff I got for my birthday last weekend! (Burberry, Sleek, Sigma, ColorClub…)
Weekend plans: Writing papers and catching up on reading!
Favorite indulgence?: Blini with crème fraîche and caviar!
Happy birthday, Cat 😀
Haul: Nothing! I nearly bought Too Faced’s Boudoir Eyes palette but didn’t at the last minute. Of course, now I’m trying to figure out when I can get back to Sephora to get it as I really should have bought it then and there!
Weekend plans: Tomorrow is my husband’s birthday but I’m still in the middle of my yoga challenge so I’ve got 2 classes scheduled (one of which is just for those doing the challenge). I think we’ll put off celebrating both our birthdays til November! Basically, this weekend is lots of yoga!
Favourite indulgence: a facial, a Thai massage or regular massage, a Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte, a make up splurge (in no particular order!)
Awww! I hope you can find time to head back to grab it, Mariella!
Enjoy the yoga 🙂
Haul: I feel you on the missing packaging, I have been waiting on an order for nearly a month and all they can tell me is that it is still in transit (when it usually takes 5 – 7 days)… so we’ll see but I am not hopeful 🙁 But I did just order some more Jack Black facial wash and a Guerlian Mythic powder refil, so that will make up for it.
Weekend plans: My husband and I both have a long weekend, so we’ll be doing some gardening and then it’s pizza night (homemade) with friends!
Favourite indulgence: Drinking champagne in the bath on a Sunday afternoon.
Fingers crossed you get your package!! I feel your pain!
Haul: Wet n Wild Fantasy Makers nail polish in Once Upon a Time (just posted the swatch!), Essie Wrapped in Rubies, Sally Hansen Gem Crush polishes in Be-Jeweled and Lady Luck, Chinovi Cosmetics eyeshadows in Athena, Ares, Divine, Kettle, Sauced and Dionysus (all sample sizes).

I hope you get your package situation worked out, Christine! That’s happened to me a couple of times, and it turned out the mailman got my neighbor’s and my packages mixed up.

Weekend plans: A brunch / Silpada jewelry party at my friend’s. I don’t really wear jewelry, but I like a champagne brunch, so… Also, celebrating my father-in-law’s birthday with the family.
Favorite indulgence: Mariage Frères Wedding Imperial tea. It’s exported from France so I have to order it online and it’s expensive. But it’s the absolute best tea in the world, and I drink a lot of tea!
My other favorite indulgence is whatever I happen to be obsessing over at the time! 🙂 Currently, it’s makeup.
I managed to get it! My neighbor had mine, too!
Love your haul, Sarah 🙂
Oh no, Christine! I hope that USPS incident resolves itself soon! I wouldn’t know what to do in your case.
Haul – Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Catfight, Glinda Palette, and the Anti-Aging Primer. I actually don’t really need anti-aging benefits but many shadow primers BURN my eyelids (lorac, original ud, TFSI, korres, mufe, milani, bareminerals, sephora) and the one’s that feel fine don’t work as well (nyx hd, nyx shadow base, l’oreal de-crease). This new one is weird. There is a tingle–the feeling I get before it actually BURNS except this tingle just goes away in a few seconds. Not quite sure if this is a keeper….i must say I’m quite tired of trying out primers.
Weekend plans – work and cleaning house. Maybe a cup of coffee with a friend? AND a book–The Happiness Project.
Favorite Indulgence – Food! Books!
Totally lucked out!!! A neighbor popped by at 8PM last night, and they had it!
Wow – I can’t believe how many primers burn your eyelids! Oh no! Have you tried NARS? The texture is different than UD/TFSI/LORAC so I wonder if that is better for you at all. Or maybe MAC Paint Pots? That would have the texture of NYX’s Shadow Base a bit more. Also less of a traditional primer, more cream eyeshadow.
But I can only imagine what a painful experience it has been!
Phew! I’m glad that usps delivery worked out for you. I imagined a scenario where you couldn’t get the shipment replaced or your money back. It would be stressful to feel like you’re placing a bet on whether you’d even GET your shipment every time you order online.
Thank you for product suggestions and your sympathies! Good to know that the NARS texture is different–I’ll move it up on my to-try list. The MAC paint pots I’ve yet to try bc I heard they’re similar to the Maybelline Color Tattoos–and my eyelids didn’t like those. But if you say it’s similar to the NYX shadow base then I’ll seriously reconsider.
The experience has been a bit of a nightmare. Prior to having reactive eyelids, I wore eyeshadow daily that stayed like iron–and then out of nowhere, my eyelids started burning like crazy! At first, I thought ALL eye makeup caused the burning. So I stopped wearing eye and nail products altogether (Weird huh? Apparently–nailpolish formulas are not especially eye-safe and fingertips tend to touch eyelids A LOT). Predictably, I eventually couldn’t stand the idea of naked eyelids and brushed on some liquid liner and discovered…no burning. So I experimented with one eye product at a time and if it burned–to let it heal and note it. Then try again.
Silicones might have something to do with it. Found out the hard way I can’t tolerate silicone makeup removers. But I mustered up the nerve to try the nyx hd primer which has silicones and I’m ok except for shadow creasing. And i’ve had a silicone-free shadow primer burn my eyelids. UD 24/7 liners are ok if I don’t use them too often. Bareminerals and Revlon liners don’t burn my eyelids ever but burn my actual eyes if it manages to get in–and they will bc they don’t stay put on me and I’m awful with touch-ups.
And…that’s the story of my makeup life–bit of a nightmare, really. BUT…I count my lucky stars that I’m able to wear eye makeup at all period. Many retailers in the usa have excellent return policies. Still mustering up the nerve to wear nail polish on my fingernails again–it’s just not the same seeing it on my toenails (I would start with wearing Zoya religiously–bc it’s as “free” a polish as a polish can get without being too pricey).
Very, very interesting! I am glad you have been able to do some investigative work to find out what does and doesn’t work for you. And at least you’ve found a few products that you can work and have narrowed down what causes the flare-ups! MAC Paint Pots feel a little heavier to me than Color Tattoos (thicker in a way, but not really THICK!), but I’d parse through the ingredients’ list and compare between NYX and Maybelline to see what the overlap is.
Wishing you the best of luck and hope you find more products that do it for you!
Haul: Nothing! Not even any brushes this week.
Weekend plans: Celebrating my mom’s birthday today.
Favorite indulgence?: Definitely food. I LOVE a nice, tender steak and yummy indian food. I would probably eat out every single day if I could, lol.
I also blame you for my last Hakuhodo order. Just sayin’.
Lol. What did you order? That (hopefully) MAC 239 dupe?
It pushed me over the edge! I wanted to get the Yachiyo because I have the NARS one to review but feel like I needed the Hakuhodo one to have something to compare to. I also wanted to get a second one of I think it’s the J142? and J5523? (a crease brush and blending brush – I believe it’s like the MAC 217), as those are two that I do really like having multiples of and prefer (for cost/quality). I also picked up a couple of pencil-type eye brushes (like MAC 219) in two sizes. Also grabbed their new brush cleanser to see how that works out. How about I just paste my order? LOL.
G5522BkSL Eye Shadow Brush Tapered (H2897)
Hakuhodo Brush Cleanser 200ml *** USA Only *** (H3448)
J5523 Eye Shadow Brush Round & Flat (H3916)
G5533BkSL Eye Shadow Brush round (H2908)
G5515BkSL Eye Shadow Brush pointed (H2890)
J142 Eye Shadow Brush Round (H3858)
G5520BkSL Eye Shadow Brush pointed (H2895)
Yachiyo, large Pointed (H2386)
J004G Eye Shadow Brush Round & Flat (H3879)
Oh noes. You made me go to Hakuhodo’s website now to check out those brushes an I realized I only have a couple of the ones you ordered. They seem really great so I have to place another order soon. This is gonna be a visious circle, lol.
I’m really curious about the large yachiyo. It has been on my wish list for a really long time, but it was sold out last time I checked so I ended up with the medium size instead. I’m a bit disappointed with that one to be honest. It’s thescratchiest of my hakuhodos (not bad, but nowhere as soft as the others) . I really hope the large one is better. I’m looking forward to the nars review and comparison.
Preliminary findings: large Yachiyo is the right size to compare against the NARS – Hakuhodo’s is more domed/fuller overall, whereas the NARS Yachiyo almost looks like two triangles stuck together so it has a much more tapered point. I found NARS’ Yachiyo scratchy and everyone raves about it, so I was very taken aback by the roughness of it. Hakuhodo’s Yachiyo is definitely softer, seems slightly denser, but it’s not like to-die-for softness.
I have that massive Hakuhodo powder brush (I think it was the first one I reviewed… J104?), which is the “scratchiest” Hakuhodo face brush I have (I wouldn’t SAY it’s scratchy), and that is significantly softer than the Hakuhodo Yachiyo. I’d probably just go for other cheek/face brushes over this Yachiyo business – if I want a brush for softer blush application, I’ll stick with a duo-fiber or fan brush.
Will also say that the new brush isn’t a 239 dupe. If that brush and the J242 mated, it might get closer. The new one is a little more flared out, slightly larger, not as dense. Haven’t really used it extensively yet, so in practice they might end up more similar than not – but visually they have some noticeable differences in shape/density. Don’t recommend the G5515 all that much, just because it is SUPER tiny. I’d rather get a size up or two myself, because while small is nice – if you are only getting one, I like a medium sized shape so you can do some of the smaller work (just with some patience) as well as larger work. Nothing wrong with it from what I can tell otherwise – just got caught in the whole size problem of trying to buy brushes blind! (I swear, I look at the measurements and go, “yeah, that seems about right” and then it’s like nope… not right at all.)
Let me know what you think when you get yours! 🙂
I saw the pictures and measurements of the G5515 and it’s half the size if the pencil brushes that I have. I definitely don’t doubt that it’s tiny. The pictures can be so confusing. I’m often convinced that I have received the wrong brush, lol.
It really sucks that the new brush is not a 239, I had such high expectations! I hope it at least is similar enough that I’ll get some use out of it. I can live with the shape not being 100% as long as the size is right.
You might like it more than me 😉 You’ll have to keep me posted.
I am too much of a die-hard for the 239, lol! From certain angles, it almost looks like a dupe, but at others, not as much.
Haul: Laura Merciers tinted moisturizer (colormatched to my fall/winter color) & sheer setting powder (follow-up for my current Bobbi powder) and I feel I needed a new lipstick, so I bought Armani Rouge d’Armani lip stick in No 506
Weekend plans: Simply nothing. Rehurse from the intensive working week.
Favorite indulgence?: Food, especially deserts, crepes, mouse au chocolate, tiramisu, parfait, chocholate cake
Yay for new lipstick 🙂
What’s your favorite crepe filling?
Haul: UD Vice 2 palette and Benefit’s Rockateur. Loving both, thanks Ulta for 20% off 🙂
Weekend Plans: Try and buckle down and actually get some studying done for school. And clean my room, man it’s a mess. Thanks nursing school.
Favorite Indulgence: Shopping. Totally shopping. It’s a disease really.
So glad you were able to take advantage of your Ulta 20% off coupon! 🙂
