- Haul/Rediscoveries: Kosas Blush Duos, Marc Jacobs Lipsticks.
- Weekend plans: Catching up on the blog! My mother-in-law and brother-in-law are moving to Arizona this summer, and we do a lot of the facilitating, so I’m a bit behind on what I usually get done during the week.
- If you had an extra hour of time each day, what would you use it for?: Honestly, I’d probably just work more, LOL.

Haul: A new tin of German made Nivea (I can’t believe that even as the weather warms up, I can now use this – it used to be winter time night or outside shovelling snow use). I also got 2 tubes of Australian Gold tinted facial sunscreen. It didn’t look like SDM was going to be getting this any time soon (I’ve been checking regularly) and Amazon.ca finally carries it (last year, they had several Aus. Gold sunscreens but not the tinted face one). Not a big purchase but I am so happy.
Weekend plans: Monday will be our 40th wedding anniversary and with restaurants closed here and a favourite place that is doing take out closed on Monday, I was rather despairing. Then my absolutely angelic sister in law asked what we’re doing Sunday and when I said “nowt”, she said “I’m coming over to make you my favourite dinner!” UNBELIEVABLE! She’s just the most amazing woman and dear friend. I said I’d make dessert (trying to decide between Down East Blueberry Buckle and Lemon Cheesecake). Beyond that, I’ve no idea.
If I had an extra hour…..right now, probably the same time-wasting I’m doing now – standing in line at the garden center, grocery store, etc… Or, perhaps I’d watch an extra hour of Bodyguard on Netflix.
Happy anniversary! We had to celebrate a milestone anniversary in lockdown too, and it’s a bummer, but it just means you get to celebrate again when you’re allowed to go out.
How sweet of your sister-in-law to come over and cook! I hope you enjoy the meal and the social time.
Happy Anniversary! We celebrated our 40th last month, very different in quarantine. But at least we were together.
Happy anniversary! What a wonderful SIL you have! I’m so happy the day will be saved for you.
Thank you all so much for the good wishes. We’d planned to go to Denmark (and meet up with our son, who’d be on leave from a deployment in Ukraine) to celebrate but, of course, that’s not happening now (though I might see if I can find some Danish pastry to celebrate on the day!). As for my sister in law – she really is one of the loveliest people you could ever meet on the face of the earth.
I’m sorry you’ll miss your son. ((((Hugs))))
Happy Anniversary, Mariella !
Yes, this pandemic has changed our world forever. Some of the changes will be good things but many are going to be sad changes. A lot of companies have beefed up the mail order presence and may just choose to not reopen brick and mortar stores. We have several that were teetering on the brink of extinction and this will be their demise. Really sad times.
Not that I have a vote in your dessert selection but how about Lemon Cheesecake with Blueberry topping? Sounds heavenly to me!!
Happy Anniversary Mariella, what a wonderful day it’s going to be, thanks to your lovely sister in law offering to create a meal for you. She is a really kind person and no wonder you get along so well. I hope the weather is going to co-operate for the event too.
I like Deborah’s suggestion of the lemon cheesecake ( I am an absolute cheesecake tragic!) with blueberries on top… And of course, you can celebrate again when the restaurants re-open.
I hope some of your adult children can make it as well. Congratulations to both of you.
Thank you so much, my “Down Under Doppleganger”! I thought about cheesecake as it’s my sis in law’s favourite but I made a lemon cheesecake the last time she was here so I may go for the buckle with some ice cream. No kids, alas…we saw our younger son and his girlfriend on Mothers Day (a socially distanced visit, which was lovely – it’s funny how all the other Mothers Days sort of blend in to one another but this one really WILL stand out).
Congratulations my friend!!!!! Covid can’t stop your celebration!!!!!! Here’s wishing you many more years of love and happiness together!
Thanks for the good wishes, Heather. I’m hoping that we can actually order from Hambrgr on Monday (if you’ve not been, I need to take you the next time we’re able to get together). If I can actually have a burger on Monday and also not have to cook on Sunday, I will be a happy camper indeed. Now I have to think about what do have for dinner tonight….arrrrgggghhh!
Happy Anniversary, Mariella! 40 years is a long time together. Your sister-in-law sounds lovely!
Mellan is such a cutie! My dog loves to stop and smell random plants, too.
Haul/rediscoveries: Nothing. I think it’s coming up on 3 weeks since I wore anything more than brows and mascara, and even that I’m rarely doing.
Weekend plans: Going to do curbside pickup for a couple orders. Otherwise just stay home. My spouse’s work gave them today off for an extra long holiday weekend but I have a ton of work so I don’t know if I’ll even be able to take off early, but I will be off on Monday. I’m hoping the weather will warm up and we can do some yardwork and then hang out in the hammock. It’s been cold and rainy all week and I am OVER IT.
If I had an hour of extra time I’d probably do an extra-long dance practice every day. Except for this week, when I’ve had 0 motivation and would probably spend that extra hour sitting around wishing we were having Spring weather, LOL.
My dog sniffs everything. And if I don’t keep my eye on him when we’re on a walk, he’ll eat just about anything.
Haul/Rediscoveries: Didn’t buy anything, but lately I’ve been rediscovering a lot of my single eyeshadows that I’ve been ignoring for a long time. This week I’m loving MAC Haux and Shale.
Weekend plans: Chores, relax, watch movies and shows, read, etc.
If you had an extra hour of time each day, what would you use it for?: Sleep.
Mellan knows how to enjoy life!
Haul/Rediscoveries: My last order from the Rouge Sale came with the TF Lip Spark in Dazed and CT Pillow Talk Nude Pink I might just wear them around the house today lol.
Weekend plans: It’s been monsooning for the last few days so I haven’t been outside and I’m really feeling it. It’s supposed to be nice on Sunday so maybe we can go for a drive so I can at least get out of the house!
If you had an extra hour of time each day, what would you use it for?: I always have things to do around the house so I would just be doing more!
Haul: Colourpop Luxe Lipstick in Money Side Up, CeraVe PM moisturizer and e.l.f. Lip Scrub.
Rediscoveries: Not that I can think of!
Weekend plans: Potty training take 2.
If you had an extra hour of time each day, what would you use it for?: Reading and drinking tea.
Oh how I truly enjoy these recent pics and videos of Mellan investigating and romping outdoors! ?
Haul: Nothing new makeup related, but I do have a very beautiful, gently used dining room set that my son informed me was a steal at $250. According to him, back when he worked for a moving company, he moved sets like this for upper middle class clients that they paid roughly $800-1000 for. So I suppose I lucked out!
Rediscoveries: Just new stuff this past week. Having been using the fantastic dupe of ABH Sultry Palette twice this week, I cannot believe that I ever let the OG get away from me! This palette is fantastic for creating a very sexy smokey eye look with a touch of wet looking shimmer!
Weekend plans: Ugh… nothing but laundry (eventually) and a Zoom meeting on Sunday.
If you had an extra hour each day, what would you spend it doing? Please don’t wish this upon me during this lockdown, because I would just sleep it away! LOL.
Post-covid, I would use it going to the apartment complex pool for many a swim, or visiting local parks as long as it’s not too hot outside.
How exciting to have family moving to AZ! Mellan clearly approves of the new plants. *smile*
Haul: TL;DR — I’m very chatty in my descriptions due to excitement. lol The last of my older orders came in. I’ve been hauling pretty heavy the last few weeks, and taking advantage of the great sales everyone is having, and especially indie companies. usually combining with promo/coupon codes. It’ll be fun to try some K Beauty and new-to-me indie brands. I’ve been decluttering to make room for them. I’m getting my makeup room back. I’m feeling enthusiastic and less bored about makeup again!
*Beautylish — Wayne Goss: The Luxury Cream Lipstick in Zinnia (this is one of the most flattering lipstick colors I’ve ever owned!) and Carnation; The High Shine Gloss in Antique Rose And Chrysanthemum; and The Essential Lip Pencil in Cinnamon and Natural Berry. I’m very happy with the lipsticks and pencils. I haven’t tried out the glosses on my lips yet, but they swatch beautifully. The mint scent is super-light.
*Fenty Beauty (Friends and Family Sale) — Cheeks Out Cream Bronzer in Amber; and Cheeks Out Cream Blush in Drama Cla$$, Fuego Flush, and Crush on Cupid. Cream products that set and hold up up to oily skin? Yes, and I’m thrilled.
*Nordstrom (sale) — Yves Saint Laurent x Zoë Kravitz Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick in Scout’s Red. (I’ve been lusting over this for a while.)
*SugarPill (sale) — Pro Pan Eyeshadow in Bittermelon (new shade) and Suburbia; Liquid Lipstick Bundles in Arctic Sparkle and School Daze.
*Midas Cosmetics (promo code) — Smokey Glow Palette. (OMG, STUNNING!!!)
*Black Moon Cosmetics (sale) — Moonlighter Bundle (all shades), liquid lipstick in Slime; and GWPs Mystery Constellation Lashes and two Limited Edition Face Brushes.
*YesStyle (Blaming Taylor Wynn and Angelica Nyqvist for this haul! Great prices and products, though.) — Etude House Lovely Cookie Blusher in Strawberry Choux, Lavender Chiffon Cake, and Pink Brownie; and Double Lasting Foundation in N03 Neutral Vanilla. The Saem Saemmul Single Blusher in Honey Yellow. It has the perfect hint of orange, and may finally end my quest for yellow blush that doesn’t make me look jaundiced. I also saw a technique using it blended into some peachy blush for a very flattering ombre effect (either Angelica Nyqvist or Beaut Bean, I don’t remember). I got the Saemmul blushes in a bunch of other shades, including a great light, matte bronzer shade and a wonderful matte, cool, light contour shade. My Beauty Tool Brush Cleansing Bathtub, 16brand Sixteen Mochi Pact in ML01 Peach Light; My Beauty Tool Eye Shadow Empty Palette For 4 Colors Lucky Together Collection (Tom & Jerry); a couple of contour powders (I wish I’d known to check K Beauty for light, cool-toned contours a long time ago!), and GWP Animal Face Mask sheet mask.
*CColor Cosmetics — Natural Glow cheek palette; eye palettes in Unisex 4, Unisex 5, Obsessed 1, and Obsessed 2.
*BH Cosmetics (big sale going on now, BTW) — Truffle Blush Palettes in Vanilla Cherry, Chocolate Orange, and Vanilla Strawberry (this one has a rather strong artificial strawberry scent FYI). Other than Vanilla Strawberry, the palettes are extremely light slightly scented, and I love the quality. Blushing in Bali 6 Color Blush and Highlighter Palette; Eye palettes: Colori Vivaci, Illusion, Laviedunprince, Digital Future, and GWP Love in London. Cheek Fan Brush #2, and Waterproof Lip Liner in Muse and Samantha.
*Sydney Grace ( promo code) — Cream Shadow in Awakening (I bought it by accident, but I’m impressed with how it blended and dried down on my hand, so now I’m stoked to try it on my eyes). Pressed shadows/pigments in Midnight Amethyst, Mythical, Magic Act, As If, Awake, Ladies Dancing, Magenta Dreams, Mermaid, Pandora, Regal, Predictable, Somber, and Lemonade.
Weekend plans: Still working on moving the household around. This is a major project, but I will be SO GLAD to have my makeup room back! I’ll also be setting up a crafting table in the garage.
If you had an extra hour of time each day, what would you use it for?: Worrying. It’s what I do best. lol If not, I’d hope to be able to use it to get more sleep.
WOW, Rachel, that is a great haul. I am envious. I feel like I have been in the desert for the past couple of months and everything is a mirage. I need to get my act together. I use to follow all the sales and would grab stuff but I haven’t even been looking. I am living vicariously through your haul !
I get you, Deborah. I was working 2 job for over a month, not buying much, and just feeling depressed and exhausted. Losing my makeup room and great lighting made putting on makeup very frustrating. After resigning the job (It just wasn’t a good fit), I didn’t wear makeup hardly at all for weeks.
Good luck with the move! Take care with moving heavy stuff!
I don’t need the extra time for worrying, I am a multi-tasker worrying continuously while I do everything else. 😆
Thanks Ana Maria! I worry all the time, too, but there’s always more to worry about! lol
I have been singing the praises of those Etude House blushes! Strawberry Choux is my most-used blush of all time, and I absolutely love Lavender Chiffon as well. And Bbia’s contour in Peanut Blossom is the only one I need; the color is a perfect cool tone.
I’d been wanting to try out Etude house for a long time. I’ll have to check out Bbia. Etude seems to be off the Yes Style site, at least for now. I’ll go look at their own website and see what else tickles my fancy.
Melan is such a good boy. He seems to be feeling really good. Hope he is doing as well as he looks.
Haul: Nuxe Reve de Miel lip balm. This is my holy grail lip balm as it is super thick and lasts on my lips through the night. It is the only one that saves my lips during the long rugged winters here in Montana. Other than that, nothing. I am going to pick up a couple of the Revlon lipsticks when I am in Kalispell next week so looking forward to that.
Weekend plans: Not much. Continue to work on my house. I have let things slide the past couple of months as I have been more involved in following not just the pandemic but politics in general. I am not a particularly political person and avoid watching the news, practically at all costs. It was one of the most difficult things about having my ex-husband living with me, in that, he watched news from sun up to sun down. I just can’t handle the negativity. So, when he moved out I reverted back to not watching. Then when the pandemic started, being a nurse and recognizing early that this was going to be a world wide problem, I got sucked into the politics again. It isn’t something I like but I am having trouble divorcing myself from it. That is another reason for my trip to Kalispell because I can’t get on social media up there where my daughter lives and she is anti politics. It makes her so angry that she wants to explode so I can’t discuss it with her. If I start on the phone she is like, “Remember, no talking to me about that man!!” So, I am hoping spending some time divorced from it will help me distance myself.
Extra hour a day: I would probably spend it sleeping. I have been struggling with insomnia. I have never had trouble sleeping before. I mean, I worked 22 years of night shift and you learn to sleep any where. So, between that and being emotionally labile, I went to the Dr. yesterday and she isn’t happy with my diabetes control, or lack thereof. We talked about an anti-depressant but I really don’t want to add another one. The one I take is for my migraines but many cause weight gain and other side effects. I convinced her to let me have the next three months to get my act together before we discuss the big guns. I know a lot of it is politically driven and I wish I could be the type of person who can keep myself informed without going down the rabbit hole! Anyway, I would likely sleep for the hour, if I could.
Haul/Rediscoveries: No haul yet, but I’m planning to take advantage of Memorial Days sales/promos/deals to buy some skincare and bodycare from Paula’s Choice, and a backup for my powder from MAC (I hit pan on my current one). I guess now I am waiting to see if Rakuten spikes the cash back percentage on Sunday or Monday.
Weekend plans: Fuzzy, since my mental state hasn’t been the greatest this week. Since we met our deliverables and pushed long (work from home) hours, our department gave us Friday off as well. I my grocery shopping today, hoping it would be less crowded, frustrating and energy depleting, but it was the same. Saturday and Sunday I might go hiking on local parks… or just take long walks around the neighborhood. It depends how good I will feel mentally. Otherwise, chores, cooking, finishing a book.
If you had an extra hour of time each day, what would you use it for? During this times I have all the hours in the day, won’t we? I guess sleeping, I usually manage to make time for everything in the day, but always compromise sleeping hours.
Just checking out the new plants are you Mellon? What a cutie!
It will be fabulous for you and Shane to have some family around you Christine. I hope all goes well with the negotiations and they find a place to love.
Haul: Our beauty and clothing shops are just beginning to open up, but most of them still have the same stock as they did before lockdown, which is a huge problem for them as the seasons have changed and in terms of the clothing shops, no-one is looking at summer clothes anymore. It has turned quite cold here and the retailers are left with stock that they cannot really sell.
Rediscoveries: Mecca Max Eyephoria palette, which has a collection of purples and golds in it. I just wish the brand had put in a silvery grey shade to make it more suitable for a cool toned look.
Weekend Plans: It’s going to be a cold and wet weekend here, so I haven’t really made many plans. We are going to look for a new Toast and Melt sandwich press, as our previous one has stopped working.
As I have been catching up with friends and family during the week, there is a quite a bit of housework to do.
The library is still closed, so I am re-reading all of my favourite books that I have in my collection at home. I have watched quite a few TV shows featuring Nordic Noir and have really enjoyed them.
Extra Hour: If I had an extra hour in the day I would either read, do my jigsaws on jigsaw online, or watch a good TV series – in other words, relaxation.
Haul:
Sephora sale (still coming in)
Natasha Denona Tropic, Biba (backup) and Safari palettes
Tom Ford Cara Mia and Escapist Soleil Lip Lacquer
Pat McGrath MOTHERSHIP Subliminal and Subversive palettes (backups, may gift)
Fenty Beauty Shady Biz, Private Island Bronzers backups – love these
Weekend plans: Laying low, reading, walking, zoom meetings, facial and mani Sunday
Extra hour: I can’t think of an answer. I’m up all hours anyway. Maybe sleep in?
Haul/Rediscoveries: Nothing yet, but I’ll have to pick up some makeup remover (both wipes and liquid-I use the liquid to clean makeup brushes) during tomorrow’s grocery/prescription/probably takeout run.
Weekend plans: Nothing today, the grocery/prescription/probably takeout run and the usual SVU marathon tomorrow, probably decorating some family graves and maybe more takeout Sunday, ION’s Most Memorable Law & Order Guest Stars original/SVU mixed marathon and maybe more takeout Monday (not sure yet whether the weekend’s second takeout run will be Sunday or Monday).
If you had an extra hour of time each day, what would you use it for?: Probably just my usual time-wasting, much like Mariella said, only I have different time-wasting activities than she does-mine usually involve some combination of books, music, and/or the Internet.
Haul/Rediscoveries: My Sephora order finally arrived so I am excited to try the Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen and the Stila Convertible Color Blush in Peony, both which are new to me.
Weekend plans: Honestly I’m looking forward to the warmer sunny weather, and having a chance to spend time with my husband who isn’t working this weekend.
If I had an extra hour of time each day I would love to get an extra hour sleep since I never seem to get enough!
Haul: No purchases this week.
Weekend Plans: Having an outdoor physically distanced visit with a friend on Sunday and then do an errand or two while I’m out. Monday is the beginning of a full week of rain, so chores are planned.
One extra hour: I’d use it to connect with someone.
