  • Haul/Rediscoveries: Burberry Sheer Kisses Lipsticks, Bobbi Brown Crushed Lipsticks
  • Weekend plans: The big plan is to take down all the holiday decor and rehang some curtains during the Super Bowl! Here’s hoping both those things happen…
  • Are you an early riser or a night owl?: I usually get up around 6-7AM, and it feels really strange to start my day any time beyond 8AM! It’s incredibly rare for me to sleep past 8AM; I’d have to be exhausted and not have slept most of the night… even then, my body usually refuses to stay sleeping!

Haul: Shiseido Chiyoko Minimalist Powder-Cream Blush, Burt’s Bees Red Dahlia lip balm, Embryolisse facial spray, and for $2 each (amazing…I think the line is being repackaged or d/c’d from Shoppers Drug Mart) bottles of Frederic Fekkai Shea shampoo and conditioner (you can’t even get “cheap” lines of shampoo and conditioner for this price)

Weekend plans: just the gym and then taking it easy (it has been appallingly cold and we’ve been so busy these past few weekends so it will be nice to just take it easy and reconnect)

Morning person or night owl: while my job requires me to be a “morning person”, I truly am a night owl. The best job I ever had, in terms of my natural “time clock”, was working at a movie theatre. I’d wake up in time to get to work at 5:30 or whenver it was and then lived a night life with other people working at the theatre – the projectionist – this is back in the day when movies came on several reels that had to be loaded and switched, etc. – and his girlfriend, my boyfriend who also worked there and a lot of other people who worked “the late shift”.

Genevieve Avatar

You have had an incredibly busy time with your house, Christmas celebrations and your MIL’s birthday party. I think the idea of just relaxing to recharge your batteries is a good one. We have been reading about the incredibly cold weather you have been experiencing, whilst we batte the incredible heat – another scorching hot day here with high humidity. I am over it.

Mariella Avatar

In a similar vein, we’ve been hearing about your extreme (and dangerous) heat in Australia – temps well above 40C. It’s been getting even more coverage than usual because of the Australian Open and tennis players having to cope in this heat and the enforced “cooling breaks” they’ve instituted. All of this makes me (and others) realize the damage we’ve all done for generations with our cars, factories, etc. affecting world climate patterns (or “Global Waming” as a famous man said recently).

Haul: I made it all the way through January without buying any makeup! (Well, except to replace the eyebrow pencil that I used up, so that doesn’t really count because without it I’d have barely-there patchy brows.)

Rediscovery: Armani Sí perfume. I bought it last year or the year before, but then I fell in love with another perfume and forgot about it. I recently decided to try it again and I’ve been wearing it every day for the past week.

Weekend plans: Taking care of our sick dog. He’s recovering, but he’s on a few meds that make him slow and sleepy.

Are you an early riser or a night owl?: I’m a night owl by nature, but an early rise by necessity.

Celesta Avatar

Haul: Bobbi Brown Crushed Liquid Lipstick in Give a Fig and some skincare.

Rediscoveries: MAC Creamsheen Lipstick in Modesty; just the perfect my lips but better shade for me, and as similar as I can get to Bite Beauty Luminous Creme Lipstick in Musk which is my favorite nude of all time.

Weekend plans: Hopefully going to the Children’s Museum with my family and some friends and their families, but more than likely getting over a cold that’s been plaguing me for a week.

Are you an early riser or a night owl?: An early riser. Though, lately, more early than I’d like thanks to my 18 month old. I do enjoy the quiet of the morning, waking up and having some coffee and reading. It puts me in a good mood for the rest of the day.

Nancy T Avatar

His nose knows! ?

Haul: Nothing, nada! Haven’t gotten to wear much makeup this week, either. But, hey, I’m ALIVE.

Weekend plans: Food shopping, paying bills, recovering from my cardiac cath 2 days ago. Wrist still feels weird, and I’m not supposed to do much or lift anything over 3 lbs. with my right hand for several more days. I’m just glad it’s over with and that they found NO blockages! Nor was it as awful as I feared, either. Whew!!! ?

Early riser or night owl? I’m a night owl, but not by choice. Used to always be up by 7:30-8 a.m. until after I had major surgery 9 years ago. Since then, no effort to “reset” back to something normal has been effective for me. Always have had sleep issues like bouts of insomnia or waking up at 2 or 3 a.m., but this is a pain in the old rump roast, y’know? By 10 a.m., the day is fairly shot to h3ll when it comes to getting anything accomplished. It’s very depressing as well.

ShariP Avatar

Nancy, so glad to hear everything went well. Now take time to relax and take care of yourself….maybe link all of your dupes in your Temptalia vanity or make a list of “wants” for the Spring Sephora sale and relax ?

Mariella Avatar

Nancy, glad your procedure went well. Hubs had cardiac ablation almost a year and a bit ago and I remember he also couldn’t lift more than 5 lbs. and, being a man, he was so overly cautious (I was glad…he and a lot of men seem to have 2 extremes when they’re sick or injured, all the way from cavalier – “Oh, it’s just the tip of my finger I’ve sliced off…stick it back and get me some duct tape” to big baby when they’re sick with a cold and carry on like they’re dying. I was glad he followed doctors’ orders after this, though. Pages of a book are less than 5 lbs and so is a cup of tea or decaf or whatever is your permitted tipple of choice just now.

I find it interesting just how many of us are night owls by nature but early birds of necessity. As I read through these replies, I’ve noticed 2 things – the night owl conflict and also how many of us are on no/low buys and doing fairly well with it.

Nancy T Avatar

Yes, I noticed that interesting trend too, Mariella. Many of us have that inner conflict going on with having become “night owls”! And also many of us are putting the brakes on our accumulating more “stuff” and shelling out $’s for it.

What you said about how guys deal with these things of a medical nature is so true! ? My ex would usually become the “I’m miserable so everyone else should be” type. But thankfully, that didn’t happen often!

Haul/Rediscoveries: Lots of stuff this week!
Sephora:
Kat Von D Sinner Lipstick + Fragrance Travel Duo & 10th Anniversary Everlasting Glimmer Veil Liquid Lipstick-Gold Skool both on clearance. I’ve always loved the Sinner fragrance!
Hourglass Vanish Seamless Finish Liquid Foundation trial size Shell – 0.11 oz/ 3.2 mL. I mainly placed my order for this as I’m not sure when I’ll get back to a physical Sephora to try out samples of this foundation. Full coverage and thinner is my dream foundation even if this is the wrong shade for me. lol

Inglot Canada: 25% off last weekend came in one-day shipping, that never happens for me. 😉
Freedom System Eye Shadow Matte in (MS BUTTERFLY) FS MATTE 289, FS MATTE 372, & FS MATTE 311.
AMC EYELINER GEL 76
Freedom System Eye Shadow Pearl in FS PEARL 453 (not the high shine while I was looking for), & FS PEARL 413.
Freedom System Eye Shadow Shine in FS SHINE 15, FS SHINE 24, & FS SHINE 05.
AMC PURE PIGMENT EYE SHADOW 75 (This is high shine white I’ve been looking for!!!)

My Beautylish Lucky Bag 2019 came in:
Stila Iridescent Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow Set in Dollish, Stylish, & Embellish. I LOVE THIS SET! I wasn’t able to purchase this one, so I’m happy.
JOUER Long-Wear Lip Crème in Pamplemousse. Interesting metallic gold.
Beauty Blender pro.on.the.go set, I was waiting for a sale to get more of these so yeh!
Wayne Goss brush 17… His and other premium makeup brushes I can use on the eye as I find natural air to be very cracky feeling… It why I own mostly synthetic brushes. lol I got the 18 brush last year. 😉
Charlotte Tilbury Luxury Palette in The Vintage Vamp. One of 3 palettes I would have pick up of her’s, so that makes me happy considering how expensive her makeup is.
Good Molecules Super Peptide Serum…. everyone got this in their bags this year! Even the Jeffree Star ones. lol It’s a brand coming to Beautylish, and the product its made in Korea. Otherwise, I know nothing about it. Hesistant to try until I know what it’s claiming to do really.

Weekend plans: Work….… But tomorrow I have to get up early as I’m visiting a friend before work, she’s back in town for the Lunar New year. Also, have to congratulate her on pregnancy in person!

Are you an early riser or a night owl?: Total Night Owl!!! If I get up before the sun, it feels strange to me. 7 am is usually the earliest for me when working in an office job. Right now my night owl doesn’t let me get to bed past 2am-3am (but I’m getting off of work at 11:30 pm most days). I also need 8 hours sleep otherwise I’m cranky, so my dream of getting up by 9-10 are still hard right now. lol

Haul: Sonia G Pro Face Set. I am absolutely smitten by this collection. I’ve been using them with all sorts of powders and placement and have been stunned by the results. I’ve not always loved the density of Sonia G brushes though they work perfectly well for what they are designed to do. The design of the Pro Face brushes – the taper and weight of the handles, the movement of the bristles, the type of bristles used – is creative, thoughtful, just perfect (to me). I suspect the design of Sonia’s Pro Eye brushes will be better suited to my small, hooded eyes and small hands than those in her regular range.

Weekend Plan: Getting outside after a few days of extremely cold weather. Watching the Super Bowl on Sunday.

Early riser or night owl? Definitely a night owl. I swear my natural clock is set to 1 pm. If you see me up really early, like 6 am, something is going on!

Ginny Avatar

I grabbed another one of the Maybelline liquid lipsticks but it wasn’t as stellar as the first one I bought so I’m returning it.

Weekend: skiing, super bowl, typical winter stuff

I’m neither lol. I used to be a total night owl but I get tired now, I gotta go to bed. I’ve never in my life been good at getting up in the morning. I just love to sleep! But even if I’m “sleeping in” i still try to be up by 9:00. Plus my cats start slapping me in the face at a certain point. I do love chill, early mornings with coffee where I feel like I have the whole day ahead of me.

Ginny Avatar

I bought Voyager and the coverage wasn’t as smooth (not terrible, though). The main reason I returned it was because it was very brown on me—thought it would be a burgundy. I am fair skinned though and other swatches I’ve seen it looks red on others.

The one I have and love is Pioneer. It’s awesome.

Emily Avatar

Good to know! A lot of colors pull browner than I’d like on me, so I’ll probably avoid that one. Pioneer looks really lovely though.

I bought Ruler the other week and I’m loving it. It can look very different depending on what you wear with it.

Haul: My Beautylish Lucky Bag finally arrived, I ordered a bunch of Tony Moly and Holika Holika sheet masks and my Sydney Grace order landed in Auckland yesterday but I won’t get it until Monday – and I cannot wait!

Weekend plans: Nothing. We’re having record high summer temps and given our crappy ozone situation, it’s easier and cooler just to stay inside and move as little as possible.

Night Owl or Early Riser: H’mmm, somewhere in the middle – I usually get up at about 6.30am during the week but weekends I like to sleep in and wake up naturally. I still wake up at 6.30, even without an alarm but I just go back to sleep. I’d guess if I didn’t have to work I would get up somewhere between 8 and 9am? But I can’t sleep until lunchtime or anything. Lazier than an early riser and not as motivated as a night owl, probably, LOL.

Genevieve Avatar

Yes, our summer heat in Melbourne is just not abating. We had a couple of cooler days last week and it was like heaven, not having to have the air con on all the time. But this weekend is shocking. On Australia Day, it was predicted to be 27 deg C and it turned out to be 37 in our suburb….. I am so, so sick of summer.

??????? ?????: Hubby and I are going to Seattle for the weekend. It’s been beyond stressful for me at home the last couple months, and I need a break. I haven’t been to the Art Museum for a few years, so we’ll probably go there.

??? ??? ?? ????? ????? ?? ? ????? ????: Night owl

Rachel R. Avatar

Thanks. The Art Museum was the only good part of my trip! I was very grateful for it. I needed beauty and serenity. It was good to get away from the house.

Saturday, we got a late a start due to family stuff, then in Washington were stuck for a few hours waiting for a crash to be cleaned up (better than being in it, though!). It took 6 hours or so to make a 3-hour trip. We were so late, we missed our reservations for a nice Creole restaurant we wanted to try. Our motel room had extremely loud neighbors, and we had to change rooms. We were so tired we ended up ordering pizza, but at least it was really good.

Sunday had some more restaurant snafus, then unforecast snow started up in the late afternoon, so we had to miss out meeting up with a friend of mine, and head home before it got too icy.

I honestly had more fun sitting on the couch with my kids when I got home, snacking leftovers and watching Black Butler on Netflix! lol

Haul: Nothing, nada, zip!! Well, correction, nothing for me. My daughter needed some concealer and foundation as she has been using Revolution and so far really loving it. She actually has found a pretty good colour match which I was beginning to think was impossible. She also has acne so likes a full coverage foundation and it is hard to find one that doesn’t cake up. Anyway, Revolution makeup is so inexpensive so that is another plus. I didn’t purchase anything for myself. In fact, I didn’t even go into Ulta with her when she went. I sat in the car. I recognized I might be tempted if I went in to look so denied myself the temptation.

Weekend plans: Not much. We will be watching the Super Bowl although a bit of a let down as we were routing for Kansas City to be in the game this year but they weren’t quite strong enough to beat Tom Brady. So, looks like I will be routing for the Rams! Kansas City is my ex’s favorite team and since he now lives in Georgia we were texting back and forth during the playoffs. I imagine it will be the same this Sunday. Nice to have someone else who enjoys watching the games as no one in my family does and definitely not my daughter. She isn’t into those “over paid, macho, bulls***t players who act like idiots every time they catch a ball…….etc” She is also boycotting because of the treatment of Colin Kaepernick. She and I go around and around about the whole C. K. issue and have agreed to disagree!

Night or day: I have always been a night owl. When I was little my mom use to tell me that I wouldn’t go to sleep because i was afraid of missing something. When I graduated from nursing school I had to take a job on the graveyard shift as that is where they tend to start all newbies. I found that I did them easily and just stayed there for almost 25 years when you add it all up. I probably wouldn’t have changed except my husband was having trouble with our daughter in the late evenings and during the night and he wanted me home to help. My daughter is a night owl also and we frequently are still up at 3 or 4 AM. After I had breast cancer I did a lot of research and found that there is a higher incidence of cancer in graveyard workers. They don’t know if it is exposure to artificial lighting, lack of Vit D or what. They do hypothesize that it is a combination of things. Also, our bodies only make certain nutrients between certain hours of the day and then only if we are sleeping during those hours. Anyway, after my treatment I stayed on dayshift. Now I am back in the habit of staying up late and have not been successful in changing that habit. Really wish I was a morning person as I agree with someone else, the day seems half over when you don’t get up until noon. I have even tried setting alarms around the house and all that happens is I get up and turn them off and go back to bed. So lazy!!

CeeBee Avatar

Oooh, what Revoution foundation does your daughter like? I just order some of the new matte base products – the tube foundation, the rounded stick concealer, a pressed powder and a pore blurring primer so I’m hoping it’s good! I got the new LE Jouer blush palette too, it was too cute to resist 🙂

Congrats on maintaining your no-buy!
I told myself I was going to put the brakes on my beauty spending in a big way after splurging on lots of Pat McGrath for my birthday last month but the Sydney Grace, Colourpop and THREE BeautyBay orders all on their way to me prove me a damn liar! 😉

Deborah S. Avatar

I believe it is the stick foundation that she is liking. She is all about the matte life. I actually like her skin to look a little dewy but since she is oily she really hates any thing that looks dewy, radiant, etc. Of course, being a stick foundation she is going through it pretty quickly.
I am seriously so jealous of your Sydney Grace order. Next to Pat MacGrath I haven’t wanted any e/s like I want to buy some of their shades. I am going to hold off as long as possible just to see if anything else comes out that I like better. Also, a couple of the shades that I like, which are part of the Smoke Sessions dupe shades, are only available in palettes so I am waiting to see if they are released as individual shades as that has happened before. I am limiting myself to two palettes this year so don’t want to jump the gun and buy quickly and then something comes out a little later that I would have preferred. A lot of the Sydney Grace shadows are permanent so I have time. But you know me, I am all about that immediate gratification!! Yes, the Jouer blush palette is nice. I really want to try the concealer also. I have finished my Tarte Shape Tape finally and won’t repurchase so looking for another one. I ordered one from YesStyle and while I like the formula, the shades are all too dark and too yellow for me. I think I am going to try the Born This Way concealer first. Hoping it is kind to older skin around the eyes where crepe city is the norm.
Glad to hear that you are doing well.

Genevieve Avatar

My youngest son absolutely loves the Superbowl and has even taken a day of annual leave so he can come here and watch it. Both of his children, our grandchildren, have their Patriots tops…. One of his best friends is a fan too, so they text each other the whole time.
Congrats too on your low buy and I am sure you have lots of lovely things in your stash to play with. Although, I must say, those SG eyeshadows are so, so tempting.

Erin Avatar

Haul: Nothing so far this week, though I got some baller hand soap from TJ’s on Sunday. Everyone needs to get it. It’s called Pink Pomello!

Weekend: The usual plus some hiking/walking on Sunday. Last weekend hike/walk was very successful.

Early Riser or Nightowl: I’m kind of an in-between person. Getting up at like 8/9am and staying up until 1/2AM!

Genevieve Avatar

Mellon is so inquisitive – checking out all the new supplies.

Haul: Priceline (our budget beauty shop) had a 40-50% off skincare and cosmetics sale this week, so I indulged. I often find these kinds of sales useful to try out different brands or repurchase something that I have truly loved. Needless to say the La Roche Posay Ultra light sunscreen sold out really quickly, but I picked up the Avene version to try. As well as some A’kin night cream, more Burt’s Bees Cleanser, Sukin Chia Seed Oil, Skin Physics Night serum and L’Oreal’s True Match foundation in Rose Porcelain.

Weekend Plans
Friday – it was Lachlan’s 3rd birthday here and he celebrated it by going on Puffing Billy with all of us. We had a picnic at Emerald Lake and returned to our place to open his presents from us. We got him a big two storey garage with cars and my eldest son got him a big toy ambulance -with flashing lights etc. He was a happy boy.
Saturday – a very hot weekend is forecast, so just a little drive to a country town, well away from any bushfires.
Sunday – a scorcher – so just relaxing at home.
We have been hearing about the devasting polar vortex has affected much of the States, so I hope everyone is safe and warm.

Early riser/night owl: When I was working full time, I was indeed an early riser, but now that I have retired, I am a bit more of a night owl.

Brenda C Avatar

I’m just watching our news. Our high on Monday is going to be -25C so we are getting absolutely the opposite weather that you are getting. It was -15 when I went out today and shoveled our sidewalk but the wind made it colder. But we can put more clothes on you can only take so much off.

Genevieve Avatar

I want a little bit of that cold weather! The heat here is so oppressive – so hot you can’t go out no matter how much sunscreen you put on. And last night it was still really hot at midnight with high humidity. The weather definitely crazy in both hemispheres.

Brenda C Avatar

‘Oh if you have high humidity too, that’s the worst. I don’t envy you at all, even though I did have to go out and shovel the walk again at -20 and only the lord knows what the heck the windchill was! Well, just hoping for both our sakes the weather changes soon.

ShariP Avatar

It was 6 below today, but at least the wind was much calmer. In the wee hours of Monday it started snowing and it kept snowing. At times I couldn’t see my woods which is about a couple hundred feet from my house. The snow finally stopped mid afternoon on Tuesday….we had 22 inches. Compound that with the bitter temps and wind chills and most of our schools were closed this week and fortunately for me I worked all week from home. ❄❄❄

I’d really like a happy medium…You know…sunny, 75 degrees, low humidity. I’m really not asking for much, lol. ???

Brenda C Avatar

Haul/Rediscoveries: Still on my no buy amazingly!
Weekend plans: Our weather has turned very cold and a little bit of snow, I ran out today to get a few things so we are going to stay in this weekend as the temperature is going to drop even lower so we don’t mind cuddling up and watching the Super Bowl on Sunday.
Are you an early riser or a night owl?: When I worked I was up at 5 am every day and in bed at 8 pm. Now that I’ve retired I get to stay up and watch all the programs I missed. When my husband goes away sometimes I’ll be up until 2 in the morning. I can’t sleep past 9 am unless I’ve been up all night with a migraine then I will sleep late. I wish I could sleep better, it takes me almost an hour to get to sleep. I’ve tried everything out there but nothing seems to help. My husband is asleep before his head hits the pillow.

Korinne Avatar

Brenda – I feel your pain on the falling asleep thing. My friend who just became a nurse suggested brown noise, which has helped me a lot. It’s a lot more repetitive than white noise and I find it soothes my mind on those nights I just cannot fall asleep.

Brenda C Avatar

That is a very good idea, thank you. I have also been looking into some earplugs that play sounds so that it would not bother my husband.

Korinne Avatar

Haul/Rediscoveries: I got my Beautylish Lucky Bag, which came with the Viseart Petite Pro 3, a Rae Morris brush, and also this Good Molecules serum that has actually reduced some of my bags! Mostly mine are from not sleeping and not genes though. I also caved and bought the Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk quad after it went live on Sephora – the matte pink is calling my name!

Weekend plans: Beat my friends in our FitBit competition and maybe clean a bit out of our spare bedroom.

Are you an early riser or a night owl?: I’d love to be a morning person but I’m a true night owl. With my current job I have to be at work by 8, but the struggle to both get to sleep and get up at 6:15 is real. I’ve forgone makeup and contacts more times than I can count because of it.

Alecto Avatar

Haul/Rediscoveries: ColourPop’s new red mascara and a lipstick (Lucky Strike, which looked like it might be the perfect “old rose” color on my skintone; haven’t tried it yet to confirm); also a second of the foundation stick in 25W to keep at work for touch-ups, and a roller tool to keep in my fridge for times when cold stone on my face sounds like just the thing.

Weekend plans: Work — office work — that I brought home. Also ,,, I *HAVE* to get some cleaning done! I’ve been ignoring it because of my work hours, but things have definitely gone too far.

Are you an early riser or a night owl?: I’m a night owl, but it’s been many, many years since my life has allowed me to operate in that way. I’m most well-rested and even-keeled when I wake up around 9 and go to bed well after midnight; I imagine that a lot of people are in my same boat; I fight my natural inclinations every day for the sake of my job and will never *NOT* be tired because of it. Pity-mining aside, it’s been this way for a long time, so I’m used to it — it is what it is.

Alecto Avatar

I would add that when I was younger, I used to like to see the dawn before I went to bed. School and jobs have never allowed me to do that with regularity, and the “no earlier than 9” approach became my compromise. I catch a lot of flak from my SO on weekends because I get up so late; he — like a lot of non-night people — thinks it’s laziness, but the reality is I don’t sleep any more than he does, I just do it at different times. Just because someone’s productive hours fall at a different point in the day doesn’t mean they’re lazy. Do I sound defensive?

Nikki Avatar

Haul/Rediscoveries: BH Cosmetics Zodiac palette, which my aunt has now put on her birthday list!
Weekend plans: Recovered from the arctic chill and ran errands yesterday, worked all day today and am now watching TV, Super Bowl (I mainly watch for the commercials, but will also root for the Rams-I’m a Giants fan and cannot possibly root for the Patriots) tomorrow.
Are you an early riser or a night owl?: Oh God, I’m so much a night owl! I do have to get up early two days out of the week, though, due to my work shifts.
