Haul: Colourpop Yes, Please! and Perception palettes, Lux Lipsticks in La Lady and Money Side up (gift for my mother) and the free 4th Birthday Super Shock Shadow, and a Lime Crime Wet Cherry lip gloss in Bitter Cherry.
Weekend plans: Just spending time with family!
Do you listen to any podcasts?: I listen to Martini’s & Murder and Unsolved Murders.
This is the smiliest I’ve ever seen Mellan!! Cutie.
Haul: I caved and got the Fenty highlight brush and Fenty gloss set in Summer Daze. I loved the way the whole summer collection swatched in store, these glosses looked sheer enough to get over my normal dislike of glitter gloss. So tempted to get the Summer Night set too XD. Going to see if I can mimic the Fenty blush/highlight look using blue eyeshadow and her highlight brush.
Weekend plans: Work and NYC weekend. Want to take the Roosevelt Island tramway and maybe an indoor botanical garden since it’ll be rainy.
Do you listen to any podcasts?: NPR News when I walk to work if that counts!
Haul: Still deciding if I’m going to place a ColourPop order here in 30 minutes. We’ll see next week lol I always wait for a sale but by the time they come, what I want is out of stock!
Weekend plans: Driving up to PA now to see family & friends. It’s their first time meeting Baby so my husband and I are very excited. Sunday we’re dedicating Baby at church. Memorial Day bbq at my sister in law’s. Yay!
Do you listen to any podcasts?: yes I regularly listen to The Happy Hour with Jamie Ivey. I want to start Code Switch though—I’ve heard great things.
Have lovely weekend showing off your new bubby and I hope the dedication at your church goes well (My eldest son at his church dedication cried his eyes out because he didn’t like the music).
How’s Mellan doing?
Also, sorry to the group for not participating much, so much going on and I’m trying really hard not to be tempted by makeup!
Haul: Nothing this week. I might pick up some indie stuff on a weekend trip though. I got my mom some body butter from a local company and now she wants to visit their main location lol.
Weekend: local travel, pooling, shopping, and maybe HAN FRICKIN SOLO. But more importantly, LANDO!
Podcasts: I like listening to Anna Faris and NdGT when I can! Usually while cooking or cleaning. My friend also has one that’s a like an old sci-fi radio show that I tune into when I remember 🙁
Hope all is going well Erin and it’s wonderful that your mum loved her body butter so much. These small indie places are so good.
Smiling back T you, Mellan!
Haul: I ordered some things from Kryolan, the theatrical makeup site. Body makeup for my legs, an eyeliner brush, and a pack of disposable eyeliner brushes. The makeup was way too orange but I got it to the right color by mixing it with an entire tube of L.A. Girl green color corrector.
Weekend plans: cocktail party tomorrow night and a barbecue on Monday, all requiring me to bring something so there will be some cooking going on.
Podcasts? Never. I don’t like talk radio either.
Haul: Nothing! But today is payday for me and I have 3 spreadsheets of varying wishlists…
Weekend plans: Coming into work on Saturday to clean my office.
Do you listen to any podcasts?: Not on a regular basis, but if I’m going to a long drive/etc then I listen to Casefile. Haven’t found any others I’m really that fond of.
Adorable little doggie teeth!
Haul: Chanel Stylo Yeux Eyeliner in Charme, Chanel Rouge Coco Shine Lipstick in Melancolie, and Wet n Wild Megaglo Highlighting Powder in Precious Petals. (I’m also waiting for orders from Sephora and Colourpop to arrive. I’ll list details in next week’s haul report. And then I’ll go on a strict no-buy.)
Weekend Plans: Depends on the weather. We might have a big storm coming through. In any case, I’m just happy it’s a 3-day weekend!
Do You Listen to Any Podcasts? Nope
I’m curious the reasons people go on no buys? Also, when do you break them? When a product runs out or a certain time limit? Just curious! Thanks!
I can tell you my reason that I am on a no buy right now. I have a ridiculous amount of products, I want to get everything under control. I need to use what I have, before I purchase anything else. When I run out of something, that is when I will purchase, only what I need.
Thanks for the reminder, from a weak one.
I go on a no buy because I feel/know that I have enough products and need to work through my skincare and makeup stashes before I buy anything else.
I don’t have a particular time limit for my no buy (eg a month or 6 months), but I do ‘break’ it when I have run out of something that I have found to be really good or there is a fantastic 40% off sale on, say skincare items that I can stock up on. And even then, it has to be on products that are tried and true for me.
When a new eyeshadow palette comes out that I really love (eg Hourglass Ravine Graphik eyeshadow palette), I do go through Christines dupe list carefully to see if I already have the key shades that I love. And so often I do.
Ahahahaaha – love Mellan’s smiling face!

Do you listen to any podcasts?: Nope.
I ordered the Baphomet palette. I can’t wait to try their makeup. The packaging looks amazing, at least.
Haul: I haven’t had the urge to buy anything makeup related, but I do need to pick up a new serum soon. I picked up some books to make my junk journal with and will be receiving my Felicity Jane order today. So excited to make pretty things.
Weekend plans: I can finally see the top of my desk lol But seriously need to do a major clean because we’ll need the AC
Do you listen to any podcasts?: I am loving Criminal.
Aww, love dog smiles 🙂
*Huda Rose Gold Re-Mastered Shadow Palette -only swatched but not tested yet. I have both the original and new version. About 50% of the colors are same or similar. In the original, almost all my mattes were terrible, un-usable even over primer. The new mattes swatch much better, not the best, but not the worse either, will probably be better over primer. Metallics seem to be of similiar quality when swatched, decent/good/great except for one. The cover has gorgeous artwork, and there’s a mirror now.
*Kylie Pop Up Shop in SF – Kylie Lip Gloss in Candy K, Lip Liners in Candy K & Dirty Peach, Lipstick in Madeleine, and mini Liquid Lipstick in Gorg. Went Mon morning, only 15 min wait to get it, lots of testers, friendly and helpful staff.
*Weekend – lots of eating, will be celebrating friend and family birthdays
*No podcasts
Haul: I haven’t purchased anything this week as I am just starting a no buy or maybe a low buy, LOL.
However, I did receive some purchases that I made over the past two weeks. I picked up the Huda Beauty Rose Gold Reformatted palette, the Smashbox Cover Shot eye palette in Pinks and Palms, Maison Margiella Replica Memory Box, Trestique Prime and Color Lip Glaze in Paris Pink, Rome Rouge, Georgia Peach and English Rose, Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Minis and Pat McGrath Lip Pencil in Suburbia.
Weekend plans: Spending the weekend moving my daughter home from Missoula and getting her stuff situated in the house. Usual Friday night dinner with my mother and brother if I feel up to it. I have had a bugger of a week with my migraine headaches and haven’t been out of the house until today. I haven’t had this severe of a headache in quite a while. I think a lot is related to weather as we have been being pounded with rain, thunder and lightening all week. The sun is out right now so likely my symptoms will continue to improve.
Listen to podcasts: No I don’t. Frankly don’t even know what they are?
Let me know how you like the new Huda palette, Deborah! I skipped the first one and Desert Dusk (which I know you like) but I am tempted by the new Rose Gold…
Did you get to have a play with the Australis Neutralize yet?
I’m glad you’re feeling a bit better, fingers crossed that it does improve for you! 🙂
I feel for you with your migraines, the last 2 weeks have been hellish for me. The botox treatment is wearing off so the migraines are ramping up. In Alberta, Spring is the time when we have thunderstorms and it’s problematic for me. Fingers crossed yours go away!
Hi Deborah,
Can you circle back and tell us what you think of the Trestique Prime and Color Lip Glaze. Look interesting. I have been searching for a product like that.
Glad you’re feeling better.
I’m so glad you’re feeling bit better. I’m sorry about the migraines. I get them from weather/barometric pressure changes, and I know just what you mean. I hope they go away!
Hope you are feeling better now Deborah, migraines are awful. Good luck stashing all your daughter’s stuff – there is probably more of it than you imagined.
Haul: Clarisonic Mia 2+sensitive brush head; Lancome Monseur big mascara set and teint idole ultra wear foundation.
Weekend plans: Finish up some work, and go to the beach on memorial day!
Do you listen to any podcasts?: Nope, but I hope to start!
That is such a beautiful photo of Sir Mell an, that it deserves to be put in a frame!
Haul: Well, I was bad. Last Saturday, I went in to Ulta to buy a Tony Moly Aloe Sheet Mask and UD’s LE 100 Degrees Vice Lipstick….and bought the Beached Palette spur of the moment, too. It is a beautiful, well performing palette, but I think it only has 3 shades within it that I likely don’t have strong enough dupes for: Salt, 16th Street, and that rich, very dark teal, I think it’s called Plunge. I think I may need a shopping chaperone!
Weekend plans: SSDW. I cannot think of anything out of the ordinary that’s a “to do”? Which is what landed me into a mindless shopping excursion last Saturday…. ⬆️
Do you listen to any podcasts? Nope. I wouldn’t even begin to know how to!

Shopping chaperone…Lol!!!! I can totally relate to that thought.
Right, Seraphine?!? Shopping chaperones should be a “thing”. ???️??
I love being a shopping chaperone – whenever I go with my girlfriends or sister to buy clothes or even some makeup/skincare, they end up with bags and bags of stuff – good stuff mind you.
I am a very encouraging person.
Haul:
Retin A (trentinoin) 0.05% for neck and 0.1% for face. I only have to replenish about once every 8 months, but I always cringe a little when I pay for two large tubes at once. Generic trentinoin has really increased dramatically in price over the past 5 years. My pharmacist told me the manufacturer is under investigation for over-charging, but it will take years before this gets resolved, if ever. In the meantime I can comfort myself knowing there are a ton of worthless anti-aging products on the market that cost quite a bit more. Heck, the retinol my dermatologist sells is more expensive than my prescription strength Retin A.
I picked up two new NARS Precision Lip Liners in Porquerolles and Sainte-Maxime. I have lots of lip liners that I’ve liked okay, a few I’ve loved, but I’ve never liked a brand of lip liner so much that I’ve purchased four different colors in less than a month. All four of them have stayed in my purse make up bag ever since I got them (I normally carry only 1 lipliner, which immediately gets returned to my stash at the end of the day) and I mix them with all my current favorite spring and summer lipsticks and glosses. It makes the whole day fun, as I change the up the look throughout the day.
I picked up Kora Organcs Noni Radiant Eye Oil. I love the Noni Glow Face Oil so much I decided to pick up the eye oil, especially after I heard it helps with concealer application and wear. I do wear a serum underneath, so I can’t speak to hydration. My eyes are generally a little bit oily in summer and a little dry in winter. I am 52, and concealer has been problematic for me for at least the past five years, maybe longer. I have been delighted to find I am able to wear concealer after applying this product. I still have to make sure to apply concealer on the lower orbital bone and pat it in with my fingers or Beauty Blender. If I try to put concealer directly under my eyes, it’s a no-go. But this is helping the concealer to spread out smoothly instead of blotching up. I like it.
Things on my radar: The new By Terry Sun Designer Palettes and the Kevin Aucoin Neo Blushes. Did anyone notice Anastasia’s blush trios are on sale? I really wanted a few when they first came out and am considering purchasing a couple now that they are on sale.
Weekend plans: Chicago again, but this time for fun and not to catch a flight to California. Husband and I will spend the weekend resting, shopping and eating. I think I might get color matched in Chantecaille Future Skin foundation. We’ll see.
Yes, I do listen to podcasts more and more. Most recently it was Joe Rohan #904 (interview with Gary Taubes). I have been spending a great deal of time recently looking at newer nutrition research. It’s fascinating to see what we know now compared to what we knew when I was a young woman. I’ve always been passionate about nutrition and exercise. Over the past few weeks I have been working on reducing or eliminating alcohol, processed sugars, dairy, white flour, and gluten in my diet. I found Sarah Stevenson, a fitness and nutrition blogger in Australia, and have been enjoying her YouTube channel and Instagram (Sarah’s Day). She eats a paleo- based diet and I have been incorporating some of her recipes into my menu.
I’ve never tried the Nars lip liners, Tammy. I will have to check them out when I am in Spokane next. I am already building my list for when my no buy ends so it will probably be awhile before I try them. I picked up one of the Pat McGrath lip liners in Suburbia but it hasn’t gotten here yet. I haven’t heard anything about the formula but just loved the shade. Have fun with your hubbie on your mini-vacation in Chicago.
I’m going to try the Nars lip liners too based on your rec. You steered me right with the EL Rose suggestion (still love it), so I’m in. I need a few, actually. The older I get the more the lip liner works for me.
Have a fun weekend!
Another fab picture of Mellan!
Haul: Reina Rebelde 4 Play Wet Dry Eye Color quad in Salvaje
Weekend plans: My mom is still in the ICU, so we’ll still be visiting and dealing with her situation.
Do you listen to any podcasts?: No
Good luck, mum.
Thank you!
I must have missed something or my old brain is failing even faster than I thought. I didn’t know your Mom was sick and in the hospital, Rachel. I hope that she will feel better very soon and out of ICU. I will keep her and your family in my thoughts.
Deborah, I posted way late to Free for Haul last week, so most people probably missed it. Thank you for you good thoughts!
Sorry to hear your mom is sick – that must me really stressful and scary for all of you. Best wishes to her and your family.
Thank you, Lindsay! That’s very kind of you!
I hope your mom is back to good health soon, Rachel!
Thank you, Tracey!
I am sorry to hear your mother is in the ICU. Hope everything gets resolved soon.
Thank you, Tammy!
Haul: Fenty Duo highlighters in Mimosa Sunrise/Sangria Sunset and 7daywknd/Poolside. And the Summerdaze Lip Trios. W&W blushes, cheek brush and eye shadow quad in Hasta La Costa Baby. Haven’t tried the Fenty stuff yet but I like the things I got from Wet & Wild.
Weekend Plans: Nothing special just chill read and watch Netflix.I may buy a few sale items.
Do You Listen to any Podcasts: My daughter listens to them a lot so she encouraged me to try a couple. I was intrigued with “Where Shall I Begin?” a podcast on marital counseling . These real life couples talk to this therapist for an hour about their problems and at the end she give them advice.
Haul: Ren Wake Wonderful Night-Time Facial. I had a points perk tube of it that was almost finished and was going to buy it last week. I am SO glad I waited as it’s now gone on sale for almost half price!
Weekend plans: dinner out tonight at one of the best places in town to celebrate our 38th wedding anniversary (I figure 38 years deserves a pretty swanky dinner); tomorrow the gym and a bit of shopping in an area of our city where we don’t often go. It has a Chapters that I really like as well as a lot of other nice stores.
Podcasts? I don’t think I even know what they are and I’m not really keen to know.
Happy Anniversary! That’s impressive at 38. I know, because I’ve got #37 coming up in a month! Here’s to sticking together!
Hi, cutie! We love you so much. And you give us great photos. Haul: CP. Fame palette, we’ll see. Just about every color single, excepting the golds or browns. Many seem to be that elusive beast, a light, colorful shadow with no white base. Round them up, if that appeals, ladies and gents. L/S: Liquid Courage, which is not coppery, but red plum on me, and a perfect match for Penthouse from Wanted 2. Mind trick, which is in the LQ Rust, tf gingerbread man vein. One SSS, Up in the Air, which is a nice crease shade. W/e: SSDW; Patti has been such a faker. One regularly 40 min walk done in under an hour, and only a PT would notice the slight gait anomaly. In the PM, (and guess who did not bring the carriage…) she dawdled, and when she saw onlookers, played it up by using her nose as a cane, dragging a front foot (either one, doesn’t matter, when you are playing for sympathy) and actually cocking her head and sticking out the tongue, narrowing the eyes, looking as if she would pass out. Sure, when she runs around like CA Chrome at home! I had to carry her most of the way, and stop to put my feet in the ocean. ‘How old is that poor dog?’ I want to say 800. And she’s not a poor dog, she’s a faker princess who has me trained. You don’t think of dogs that spent 7 years in a crate with litters as being so great at manipulation. Podcasts: only the Adnan Syed one. Putting the podcast app on the ‘pad just confused and overwhelmed me. If I could find desirables more easily, I would. They would be good for chore time.
You crack me up, kjh. Patti the faker, LOL. I can just picture the nose as a cane angle.
When my daughter’s cat was barely out of kittenhood we decided to start harness and leash training her. It did not go well. The first day the harness was on she ran around the house making an awful screech like someone was skinning her alive. We persevered. Today, I swear there are permanent ruts in the dirt road leading to my house where we tried to walk her on the leash. She laid down and refused to get up and after we drug her for about 10 feet I gave up.
Thanks. Well, I get that it took 3 months to teach her leash walking initially. But then the disc surgery, and OMG doesn’t she play to an audience. When the head cocks and the tongue comes out, she looks like those cartoons with Xs for eyes, who have been cold cocked. Just about to start the long walk again. Better take the carriage. But that just encourages her to want to ride. Patticake Sarah Bernhardt. BTW, they have their flag collars on for Patriotic season, after their culturally appropriated serape collars for Cinco season.
Patti is too funny! LMAO
Haul: Fame palette and Name Drop, Little League & Big Break matte lux lipsticks, Canoodle, Chance & She Said Ultra satins, Morphe Warm Master & Cool Pro blush palettes and Antipodies Avocado Pear Night Cream because it’s coming into winter here and my face is getting dehydrated with the colder air. Also, I found a brand new, unopened Bite Agave Lip Mask that I don’t remember buying but I did do a little victory dance when I came across it.
Weekend plans: I’m cleaning my vanity (!) and reorganising things a bit, then friends are coming over to make jewellery with me and I’m going to make spicy beef and rice burritos for dinner. My husband is doing laundry, vacuuming, cleaning the floors and all the major stuff because I hurt my arm quite badly and he thinks I should rest. It’s not as bad as it looks but I’m not going to object if he does more than his share occasionally 😉
Podcasts: Nope! I’m old school and actually listen to the radio. I don’t even have I-tunes or Spotify on any of my devices.
Beauitful looking doggie Mellon
Haul: just some skincare items – Moroccan Argon Oil, Burts Bees Cleanser for sensitive skin (fantastic) and the Redken Shampoo for Sensitive scalp.
Weekend plans: The Friday evening disco at Olivia’s kinder – she loved the music and the lights and Lachlan loved the homemade platters of food! Saturday – our first sunny day for awhile, so a drive and Sunday just housework.
Podcasts – no I don’t listen to them either.
Hi, Handsome Mellan!
Haul:
Nordstrom Rack: MAC EDES Stolen Moment and Silver Sun (3) – love this color.
MAC: Show Gold EDES Highlighter, Naturally Flawless and Like Me Love Me Mineralize Blushes
Uber Chic Beauty – Nail stamping plates
Weekend plans: Errands and cooking/cleaning/laundry. I might be baking a few things for a get together on Monday.
Do you listen to any podcasts?: No
What a cutie – I love doggie smiles!
Haul: My Sephora order came in today – Bite Multistick in Papaya. Not entirely sold on it, might send it back. Ordered some things because of Memorial Day sales: a tank, two sports bras, a pair of swim bottoms, and a pair of leggings from Fabletics. And today I got the Melt Gemini palette and Filth and Columbia eyeliners, and Azura eyeshadow from Strobe Cosmetics.
Weekend plans: I didn’t do much of anything today except watch Friends. Tomorrow I’m going to work out, and Sunday my parents and I are driving to PA to have an early Memorial Day dinner with my grandparents, and then I’ll be spending the week with them.
Podcasts: I occasionally listen to Welcome to Night Vale, but the narrator’s voice is very soothing and can make me sleepy unless I’m driving. I want to get into this other podcast that examines the Harry Potter books as sacred texts. I’m a HUGE Harry Potter nerd, and my friend highly recommends it.
I am REALLY tempted by the Melt Gemini palette! Those are 100% my colors. Please tell me what you think about it 🙂 I’m not on their mailing list so I didn’t even have the chance to get it this weekend.
That Gemini palette looks amazing!
Haul: Bite Gemini lipstick (because that’s me)
Weekend plans: Chilling. My mom is out of town so it’s premium no-stress time.
Do you listen to any podcasts?: I’m subscribed to quite a few actually, though I rarely have the time to listen. I really like Stuff You Missed in History Class, a bunch of university Anthro/History/Socio/Geo/Gender/PoliSci stuff, Let Me Google That, Star Talk Radio, various NPR ones, Pajama Party Podcast, The Anthropocene Revisited, This American Life, etc etc. Even if I had all the time in the world I couldn’t keep up with them all, so I mostly cherry-pick episodes I’m most interested in.
RE: Podcasts, I know the feeling! I only listen to Stuff You Missed in History Class (with the occasional dip into something else), but since I only listen to 2, 2.5 episodes a week, I am perpetually behind. They are always playing commercials for other podcasts and I wonder who has time to listen to them?!? But I guess if I was commuting every day I might have more time.
Haul: My latest orders came in this week-an Urban Decay Electric palette from Nordstrom Rack and Studded Kiss Creme lipsticks in Backstage Bambi, Crush, Underage Red, and a backup of Santa Sangre directly from Kat Von D Beauty.
Weekend plans: Work all day tomorrow (Saturday) and on Sunday we’re probably going to hit some cemeteries to decorate family graves (in my family we decorate graves for most dead relatives, not just the ones who were in the military).
Do you listen to any podcasts?: No.
Haul: CCO (additional 40% off) Clinique pore minimizing serum and Bobbi Brown pale pink cream blush, (additional 20% off) Tom Ford Violet Argente eye and cheek palette – could not resist at over 50% off.
Weekend Plans: Spending time at home visiting family and friends.
Listen to Podcasts? Not regularly though I do listen to pre-recorded interviews from time to time.
Haul: Nothing in the previous week, but I am out of body wash and almost out of shampoo so I need to decide whether to save at Target or splurge at Lush (leaning towards splurge, it’s been a long week).
Weekend plans: So much! We’re going to see Deadpool 2 today, also run some errands. I will probably buy a bike today! I haven’t ridden in 20 years after a traumatic experience with being chased by a stray dog, but I live in a pretty rideable neighborhood and I got bit by the bug when I was in Amsterdam a couple weeks ago. Other potential plans include brunch, going to Folklife Festival, hitting a brewery… Also want to get ahead on some blogging and catch up on some chores. And book airfare for our in-law visit in July. Uhm good thing it’s a 3 day weekend.
Podcasts: I listen to Stuff You Missed in History Class every week on the drive to and from dance class. I really like it because they cover all sorts of history but a lot of times they focus on women, the LGBTQ population and people of color. I have learned about a lot of really cool people, and also a lot of really terrible things that made me mad or sad.
I kindly request you give Mellan a holiday hug and pat for me. No, I demand it. Just kidding. I humbly request. 🙂
