Have a great weekend, Christine- Glad your frustration is almost over, whatever it is!
Haul: I have had the new Becca highlighters and glosses in and out of my virtual cart all week, but the early ratings are mixed so I am trying hard to be patient and wait for your trusted and in-depth reviews!
Weekend plans: buy a big planter for my patio and fill it. Also do some deep cleaning around the house.
What is something you’ve always wanted to learn?: to ride a bike without constantly falling over, and to swim… walking and driving are my only reliable modes of getting around ?
I wish I could swim! My husband is a fish and I’m just sat out there like a beach ball lol… I haven’t ridden a bike in years. I rode one of my nephews’ bikes and he was like, “Why do you look like that on it?” THANKS, KID lol
Hahaaa- Joyce, I am in the same boat!! My husband swam competively in high school and played water polo in college. When we go to the beach he has to tow me around with a pool noodle in the water ?
Literally. You and I are in a boat because we can’t swim ?
Me either and my husband has a boat too. Learning to swim is on my bucket list.
Oh, all you guys. I feel dreadfully for you, especially surrounded by swimmers. As we go through graduation season every year, some non swimmers perish far too young, due to that inability. Always wear your life jackets and stay safe. I personally believe that hs should have a swimming requirement, or maybe I mean a water safety requirement. People should be able to tread water or float for X # of minutes, and ‘swim’ for y yards. Who cares about the strokes or the form? It’s about being able to preserve your life in a potentially dangerous situation. I realize not all schools have access, but it is such an important skill. It’s actually quite fun, once you overcome the anxiety. There are a lot of adult swim classes. Think how proud you’d be to impress your s.o.s with that accomplishment.
My Becca stuff is supposed to arrive today, so I hope to review them sooner rather than later (no guarantees!) but should at least have swatches up next week.
This is exciting!!!
It’s never too late to learn to swim, my mum was frightened to learn to swim because her brother pushed her down under the water when young in the river in Ireland. But when she had me and my sister who love to swim as much as our dad, she wanted to join in so went to swimming lessons. She’s even been snorkling (though not snorkel diving) abroad. It’s definitely more fun when you can swim!
Julia, my Becca highlighters came today and I swatched them. Will post one tomorrow and the other Sunday…if Christine’s are anything like mine you might want to save your money. I bought Opal and Amethyst. Opal is the better of the two. Amethyst was just downright dry. It’s also not the shade they advertised it to be. Opal is somewhat better as it’s less dry. Still not great but better and more usable and at least is more of a duo. My lippies arrive Monday so I can’t speak to those yet.
I ended up seeing Champagne/ Bellini in store and was a little let down by it. I’m still holding out some hope for the more interesting colors, but I’m glad I didn’t just go nuts and order them all on launch day.
Also…. how’s the UD perfume oil? The description sounds pretty good!
Julia, here’s the short description of the perfume I posted in the fragrance group I belong to:
SOTN: Urban Decay Go Naked Perfume Oil. When UD released this limited edition frag, as a Rockstar Junkie (UD fans will know what I mean), I just couldn’t resist.
Go Naked is marketed as a scent that should remind you of having been out in the sun by the ocean. It’s supposed to be a scent as if you were wearing no scent at all. That’s not what I get.
On application I got a very strong burst of fresh lemon mixed with a more subtle bergamot. The lemon fades down a bit, but not much, and in rushes a lavender and light musk. The notes are joined by neroli and and jasmine.
On me, Go Naked, wears as a fresh fruity floral with a slight marine twist. It smells nothing like what spending a day at beach smells like. Still, it’s a respectable Summer fragrance and at the price point, I have no buyer’s regret.
Michele & Julia, I’ve received today the Becca lippie in Rose Quartz x Seashell. I did not have time today to post my haul but I came to say that I’m sort of disappointed in the quality. The swatch on the hand is gorgeous but once I applied it on my lips…well, it’s nothing spectacular. My lips are not pigmented (they are lighter than those of the model applying the Rose Quartz in the Becca video) and I have fair skin w/cool to neutral undertones. As I said, this particular shade, Rose Quartz, leaves a silvery shimmer on my bare lips with some violet sparkles/glitter particles in it.
It does not look good (at least not on my lips) when applied over some lipsticks and lip pencil that I’ve tried, all w/a pink base (KVD everlasting liquid lipstick in Lovecraft; Clinique Cute Pop; UD 24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencil in Turn On ). In all these cases I couldn’t see the famous “kaleidoscopic” effect that catches the light when your face changes position. The gloss gets one with the product underneath and the prismatic/catching the light effect is not visible. I’ve tried it indoor, under artificial light, maybe in the sun it looks different.
It looked better over the Hourglass Lip Stylo in Peacemaker because the base is a peachy warm beige. It looked better, (surprisingly!) when applied over Lancôme Matte Shaker in Magic Orange, in the sense that it tones down the colour (hot orange) and the sparkle shows a bit more. My preferred application was on bare lips using the Milani lip pencil in no. 13 Pretty Pink (Milani’s shade matches the pink in the base colour of the Rose Quartz). In this instance however, when the gloss faded, it left behind glitter particles stuck to my lips.
In conclusion, maybe this shade – Rose Quartz – is a bit problematic or maybe it’s not for my lips. I couldn’t get that prismatic/kaleidoscopic effect. What I’ve noticed from my swatches is that this particular shade requires: 1) a drier/matte formula underneath, under the form of a lip liner or matte lipstick (if applied over a hydrating one, the gloss melts into the lipstick);
2) the shade of the product over which is applied and the pigmentation of the lips are key. Imho, it looks better on those w/ pigmented lips if applied on bare lips. If applied over a product, it looks better on warm peachy beige or hot orange.
I’m curious to see Christine’s swatches/review and advice from those w/ similar lips and fair skin as me. Honestly, I do not know which of the colours from this Becca range would work for my lips as my intention was to wear this gloss over my bare lips for a summery look. I hesitated between Rose Quarts and Champagne Dream x Bellini but I was afraid the latter might look like pure shimmer gold.
Nicole, I have Jouer Skinny Dip, am 47 yo, with super oily lids, one hooded. Suggest trying the WNW eye primer. So far, I’ve worn 4 of the 6 shades all day long (silver, pink, light gold, dark brown), and the only one that had any fallout was the light gold (Skinny Dip), that one will need TF glitter glue or some cream base. I used my regular Eco Tools shadow brush to apply dry, suggest patting on (rather than sweeping back and forth), then lightly blending. The shadows lasted all day long, no fading or creasing for me
Oh dear… Nicole, I meant to respond to Deborah S. on Jouer Skinny Dip,not you, sorry!
No need to say sorry Katherine ! A good advice/suggestion is still a good advice/suggestion even if I was not the intended recipient; you never know when you need it 🙂
Nicole – Thank you (I think)…now I’m worried! My Amethyst and Opal arrive tomorrow. I’ll post back to let you know how mine work out.
Michele, they might have a different formula than Rose Quartz or the shades might fit you. Looking at Christine’s swatches she has just posted, Champagne and Opal look so much better than Rose Quartz. I’m curious to see your take on the lippies you ordered; I tried my Rose during the weekend and I’m still bothered by the glitter particles that remain on my lips once the base goes away.
I used my Amethyst today but I used it over the Tarte lip liner in On Fleek (since I knew from swatching it wasn’t going to pull as true amethyst/purple as I wanted). I had no issues with using it this way. But I think it could be problematic in many ways, including the tiny glitter, if you wear them alone. I posted a pic on my IG of me actually wearing the combo. I hate doing selfies, but so many people are back and forth on this product and one of my readers messaged me and asked. So, I’ll be able to use both of mine, but had I known before purchase, I probably would have skipped since I think the price is high for a product that isn’t that great on it’s own.
Thank you Michelle for the update ! Your Becca Amethyst looks great on you over Tarte On Fleek liner ! You’re right, one must find the proper lip liner or lipstick to be applied underneath. I tried yesterday a different application; two thin swipes of my Rose Quartz, then I went with the applicator and padded a little bit of the lip gloss into the lips. Applied on its own, in this way, it looked better but the problem is the milky base of my Rose Quartz turning into a silvery tone. I guess it does not go very well with my natural lip colour. I should have picked perhaps the Champagne Dream x Bellini, which seems to shift more towards peach & gold.
Btw, your skin is flawless ! You definitely should take selfies 🙂
Maybe you can try the Rose Quartz over a lip shade with a gold shift. you may not be able to get rid of the silvery base, but you may be able to cancel it out a bit. I wouldn’t have thought it would pull silvery either! And thank you…still hate selfies though.
Great tip Michele, thank you so much ! Haven’t thought about it :).
I can’t swim, either.
I went to the Sephora VIB ROUGE event last Saturday morning at the Mall of America here in Minnesota. It was lovely because the staff at the store is fantastic. They had Caribou coffee, fruit, and pastries. It’s a big store, and it was nice to get to shop before the weekend crowds. But you would think that the company would give its best customers more than an inexpensive cosmetic bag and a cardboard bubble pack sample of Fresh Sugar Lip Scrub.
I bought a new tube of concealer, the Naked perfume oil rollerball, and the new Clinique Mask.
The face mask goes on as a pink gel. Then it turns white. Then it feels like ants are crawling all over your face. I couldn’t get it off fast enough! Granted, my skin looked nice. But I returned it.
I miss Caribou coffee! I live on the East Coast, so only get it when I’m visiting family in MN. How is the Naked perfume? The mask that feels like ants sounds SO creepy!!!
Oh how disappointing with the gift! I’ve heard much of the same about that Clinique mask. Was there anything else in the Fall releases that looked good?
Which mask was that , Wendy ? I want to make sure I avoid it . Thanks .
Mac Fairly Precious blush, Lancôme lipstick.
This weekend the boys visit the vet for their shots.
I always wanted to bake a good cake and still haven’t.
xoxo for the always handsome Mellan. Have a good weekend Christine.
SallysBakingAddiction.com is my favorite baking website. She gives you great step by step instructions and only puts out the very best recipes. Try it out!
Awww, I want to tickle his paws! Well, glad to hear things are looking better, hang in there, you’re doing a great job!
*KVD Lolita Blush/Shadow –obsessive stalking of Sephora website has paid off! It’s red in the pan but swatches a warm brown with red and peach undertones. It’s browner than Lolita lipstick, but in the same color family. Will need to test on eyes and cheeks. It’s a bit on the dry side, there’s powdery kick up when I use a brush, think it will go best over eye primer and foundation.
*Becca Light Chaser Highlighters in Amethyst & Pearl-coming later today
*Sephora Reward Point Minis -BITE Amuse Bouche Lipstick in Beetroot (OMG, stunning, super pigmented), Hourglass Lip Stylo in Peacemaker (pretty, hope I don’t fall in love as they are pricey), MUFE Aqua XL (not sure I like the color, but want to try the formula), Brazilian Bum Bum Cream, Clinique Moisture Surge Hydrating Concentrate, Supergoop SFP Lip Balm (super duper tiny tube), IT Confidence in a Cream (yuck, can’t get over the lemon pine sol/kitchen cleaner scent)
*Weekend -kids party on Saturday, then rest, test makeup
*Learn –how to do a cat eye and false lashes
Update on Becca Light Chaser Highlighters–
*Pearl Flashes Gold -OMG, stunning!!! Good quality and duo chrome. I can see the light “chasing” that strong yellow gold sheen up and down the white pearl base. On the cheekbones, it’s like a spotlight, reminds me of the Pat McGrath Skin Fetishes, love!!
*Amethyst Flashes Geode–was about ready to return this one, first couple of swatches were unimpressive -sheer, dry, stiff, but after swatching like 15 times ( I was trying to take a pic for my buddy), it got MUCH better –smoother, more pigmented. So try to get past that drier top layer. It’s not as good quality as the Pearl x Gold one, harder to blend, and on the arms, you can’t see the duo chrome shift, but on the cheekbones, wow! It has a purply pink base, and you can see the shift from hot fuschia pink to purply pink. I’m NC 15-20, and it’s quite dramatic looking. Will probably keep this unless I can find a cheaper dupe
Haul: I was going to be good this month but then Jouer…and UD Jean-Michel Basquait went on sale…and we’re not even ten days into June!
So I did pick up three of the Jouer LE Skinny Dip collection: the eyeshadow palette, the Skinny Dip highlighter, and the Skinny Dip Lip Topper. I love all three. The eyeshadows are super pigmented (with the exception of the pink). The highlighter is my current favorite, it’s just so brilliant and high quality. I’ve been pulling out my other highlighters for comparison and Skinny Dip is more intense than most of my other highlighters, and yet I can really put it on full strength without looking like I’m wearing too much highlighter. I like the lip topper as a way to make the lips look fuller by patting it in the center of my lower lip. I first apply whatever lipstick I’m wearing that day, pat the shimmer in the center of my lower lip, and then add just a touch of gloss for moisture. Very pretty! I think this could be used to turn most lip colors into a frost (which is less expensive than buying several frosty lip sticks).
I have been fighting the urge to indulge in theUD Jean-Michel Basquait collection but then it went on sale. I knew I definitely wanted the lipstick in Epigram because it is slightly darker than the NARS LE (and sold out) Kiss Me Stupid, but then the next thing I knew the Gold Griot eyeshadow palette and the three eye liners were in my cart too! I got them yesterday, loved all immediately, and ordered the Tenant eyeshadow palette and other lipsticks this morning.
Weekend plans: I don’t know if I mentioned last week that we started our kitchen remodel. I’ve hated my kitchen since we moved in 16 years ago and suddenly I couldn’t take it anymore. So for my vacation last week we removed wall paper, primed and painted walls and ceilings in the kitchen and laundry room, removed all cabinet doors and hardware, decreased cabinets and doors, sanded cabinets and doors, and primed and painted the cabinets. We worked 8-12 hours each day, and it was exhausting! Starting Tuesday we will begin the process of priming and painting cabinet doors (there are 39!), put on the new hardware, and hopefully have our cabinets put back together by Saturday, just in time for my daughter’s wedding, which is at my house.
I’ve always wanted to learn how to play the piano. I would like to study Latin.
Tammy!! Before & after photos, please! Have fun with the remodel. Kitchen remodels are my favorite to see 🙂
I used to play the piano when I was younger–really regret quitting. I would love to study Latin also! And Greek and Hebrew. And Portuguese and more Korean and French… 😛
Joyce, we are having floors and counters replaced, hoping to have all completed in the next 6-8 weeks. I will try to remember to post some pics!
Hope you love how your kitchen turns out!
Michelle, Anything would be better than what it was! But I am excited to get rid of my dark wood cabinets and have clean white cabinets, have the ivy wall paper and green sponge painted walls gone, and get rid of the awful 1970’s yellow counter tops and peeling linoleum floor. Seriously, the kitchen was bad 16 years ago, and we finished raising four kids in this house. I still cook five nights a week and make most of our food from scratch as I like healthy ingredients, so I spend a lot of time (and do a lot of damage!) in the kitchen. I am looking forward to actually liking my kitchen.
I am so excited for you! Let us know how much you love it when it’s done 😉
You lasted 16 years with a kitchen you hated — THAT is impressive!! It’s something you see and use every day.
What kind of look / design are you going for in the remodel?
Christine, Your question threw me a bit, I am afraid this is my first home improvement project and I wasn’t sure what to call the look. New? Not 70’s? Lol. So I checked out my inspirational look and they called it “traditional with a modern twist.” We are essentially painting our dark wood cabinets white, painting the walls a pastel teal (very fresh), ceiling is warm cream, counters will either be dove grey or white with grey flecks (not decided yet), white crown molding and baseboard, and this amazing luxury vinyl planking that looks like “time weathered hardwood plank” that is this lovely, soft white-grey color that mesmerized me from minute I first saw it. It was actually the flooring that caused me to decide I had to redo the kitchen: I must have that flooring in my house!
I grew up in California and the floor color reminds me of grey driftwood. So soft, so muted. I hope it looks as nice as I think it will.
Also, appliances and sink will be stainless steel. Right now refrigerator and stove are still white, but we will hopefully replace these in the next year or so.
Awesome 😀 Maybe you can share a pic when it’s all done!
I almost asked if you had any inspiration pics you could share, lol! Maybe that would have made it easier 🙂
In my first house, we did “wood” tile (maybe five years ago), and it was amazing. And “wood” tile has come SO far just in a few years and is even more interesting now, so I can imagine how awesome your new vinyl planking will look. We have wood in our current home, and we were really worried about how Mellan would treat it, but it has held up incredibly well as we don’t really see scratches.
Christine, I wanted wood but husband said no. He has spent his entire career in property adjusting and he has seen too many damage claims. But my research indicated that wood floors can hold up very well in all rooms of the house, with kids and with pets. And I’ve heard it’s easy enough to redo a room if it gets damaged.
I also got the Jouer Skinny Dip Eyeshadow Palette, and used it for the first time yesterday, using the pink. I was a bit disappointed, but then I swatched it and the other colours are amazing.
How exciting to get a new kitchen. A lot of work, but it’ll be worth it.
Tammy, I am curious how the Skinny Dip palette performed for you over the day? When I first got mine I swatched every color and loved them all, although pink was weaker. When I used the first time I used my usual primer, Two Faced Shadow Insurance. *side note, I prefer Tarte 360 Creaseless Eye Shadow Primer for my old, crepy lids but apparently they have discontinued. So I am hunting for another HG eye shadow primer. Anyway, I had serious glitter fall out all day and looked like a glitter ball had exploded all over my face. The next day I tried the Two Faced Glitter Glue and didn’t even get applied before fall out started. I have tried a brush, finger and spraying brush with fixing spray. Any suggestions if you didn’t experience this problem?
Deborah, I’ve only worn the Skinny Dip eye shadows on bare lids, and they did show creasing and fading within four hours, which I expected because my 51-year-old eyelids still get oily during the day. I was very sick this week and had to work my usual 9-10 hour days, so I kept my make up super simple (wasn’t in the mood to try new products). I still use and love my MAC Crushed Metal Pigments (some here may remember them from like what, 8 years ago???) and I primarily use them at the end of my eye make up routine, to add highlight to the inner corners or mobile eyelid. I wonder if the Skinny Dip colors would last longer if they were added on top of a regular eye shadow look?
Update: Just finished playing with the Jouer palette and created two looks (one on each eye) that I love. So here are my pointers on using these foiled eye shadows.
1. Do your eyes first, then your foundation. Once I was done with my eye look, I cleaned up my face with facial wipes, then applied my foundation.
2. Use a good primer (I used Urban Decay’s Eden). Don’t forget to do a soft wash of skintone powder or eye shadow over the primer to prevent patchiness with other shadows.
3. Apply your transition and crease shades first (I used Anastasia’s Modern Renaissance for my transition and crease shades–so perfect as an accompaniment to the Skinny Dip palette).
4. Use the right brushes for the foil shadows. (I used MAC 232 and 239.)
5. After applying the foil shadows to your brush, spray the brush with FIX Plus (or some other fixing spray). I also sprayed a mist of Fix Plus on my eyelids before applying the Jouer foil shadows.
6. Apply foil shadows to lid.
7. When you’re done with your eye look, clean up any fall out with a cleansing wipe, and then you’re ready to apply all other make up products.
While I haven’t tested the Jouer shadows for a full 10 hour day yet, I do believe they are going to wear well, with minimal fallout, based on my experiences of wearing other foiled pigments and glitters.
I wish I had something other than my phone to take a picture of the finished look. This picture does not do these shadows justice!

Thank you, Tammy. The eye look you created is beautiful. I have 63 year old eye lids and so wearing shimmery, glittery eye shadow is technically not to be done but I do love a shimmery lid and who cares that it negatively reflects my crepe and sagging lids. I will follow your suggestions and play with them. Hope I can make them work as they are beautiful.
The shadows lasted all day long, no fading or creasing for me
Gorgeous eye look. That sparkle!
Thank you, Rachel?
Haul: Nothing, but I have to get a Father’s Day gift for my husband, as well as a 2nd anniversary present. The traditional gifts are china or cotton. What the heck do I get a guy that falls into either category?
Weekend: the inlaws are coming. Save me.
Wish I learned: I’m so with you on sewing. So many times I wish I could just make my own clothes instead of hunting for them online. Also I wish I could speak French.
A really, really awesome pack of white and black undershirts. My husband really likes Calvin Klein, but I don’t even know where we got that one random CK shirt. It’s his favorite, though!
Hahahahaha good luck this weekend 😉
Cotton is easy. So many clothes, so little time, lol. I dress my husband and I enjoy it as much as I enjoy dressing myself.
I replaced my husband’s unspeakable boxer shorts with some really nice new ones. It is so easy to splurge on someone else.
A beautiful cotton shirt in his favourite colours would be good, I always choose clothes for my husband because he has no idea……
An alternative would be a cotton jumper for spring/autumn too.
As far as the in laws are concerned, just get them to hold the baby. Are they the critical types?
Anyway, I hope everything goes smoothly for you.
Hahahaha! ‘Jumper’ is south of the equator speak for a non-cardigan, pull over sweater. Haven’t heard that in a dog’s age.
An all cotton sweat suit from American Giant. Even if he’s not a sweats person, he would probably become one. The quality is excellent, and it’s a US business success story. I live in that brand. Sounds silly, but seriously, their stuff is great. But, who says you have to go with a ‘traditional’ anniversary gift? Give him what you know he wants…
But you are already doing that, with a child. Yay.
Haul: Colourpop Perks of Being a Wildflower Mini On The Go Collection: mini multi stix in California Lovers, Empire State of Mind, Toronto Terrace, and St. Petersburg plus a Lippie Primer; Colourpop Super Shock shadow in the Peachy Keen foursome: Cornelious, Kennedy, Bandit and a glitter one that went directly into my giveaway pile. (They also sent a shadow in Birthday Cake as a gift and this also went into the giveaway pile because of the glitter.); Colourpop UltraSatin Lip in FrickNFrack; Dr. Brandt Pores No More Multi-Performance Stick; Algenist Pore Corrector Anti-Aging Primer; Kanebo Kate Secret Skin Maker Zero The Base Zero in shade 04. I am fascinated by all Japanese products and don’t miss an opportunity to check them out. I came across this at an Asian cosmetics store and I loved the texture of it but they did not have the full shade range so I ordered it through Amazon in a color I thought would work. It is a little bit light but it works for me because it is so skinlike. It lasts all day and and looks freshly applied after 12 hours. I am still experimenting with the best way to apply it. I liked it with the damp BB but it was very difficult to clean off the BB. I also used my fingers and then buffed it in with my Artis oval dupe. But I really like this stuff.
Week-end plans include a long walk with some friends and then recovering from the long walk.
I have always wanted to speak other languages. My high school French doesn’t get me very far. I can do basic sewing but I have always wanted to learn how to make an actual garment. Also, while I have “learned” to drive a car and have a driver’s license, I really do not know how to drive.
Lesley, I promised myself no more Colourpop (gave my entire collection to my granddaughter), but those mini multi sticks are very tempting. What do you think of them?
I can’t really recommend them although they are cute. Only the St. Petersburg works for me as a lip color. It is a red with brown undertones. The other colors make me look washed out and I am experimenting with them as eye colors, for a simple daytime look. There really isn’t a good crease color. But over a primer they do stay on most of the day. They are right as cheek colors but don’t last all day. I’m not all that impressed with the SuperShock Shadows either. I thought they would be way more pigmented and they are difficult to apply. I bought the shadows because I liked the gel eyeliners, but the packaging is so bad and the eyeliner stick keeps falling out of the case. I have promised myself no more Colourpop.
Lesley, Thank you for your honest thoughts. I would have been angry at myself for trying again. $$$$ saved.
I gave away all of my ColourPop also. The eyeshadows ended up getting patchy on me. I love the colors of the ultra Satin Lips but this last batch I received went from a tacky texture to drying my lips out – there’s been no in between., no two or three hours of comfortable wear before it dries out. Every time I say I would never this-or-that, I make a liar out of myself but I think I can safely say I don’t see myself buying any more in the near future.
Haul: Natasha Denona Sunset Eyeshadow Palette
BI 100 PT-MAKE UP FOR EVER AQUA XL COLOR PAINT 0.05 oz/ 1.5 mL (don’t get this sample it’s WAY too small for the points)
Urban Decay Optical Illusion Complexion Primer deluxe sample
Weekend plans: Same…. We are going to see either Pirates of the Caribbean or Wonder Woman this Tuesday. (Tuesday is cheap movie ticket night)
What is something you’ve always wanted to learn?: Embroidery with a machine. For a lot of costumes machine, embrodering is the only way to go otherwise you spend months/year on a project.
Actually, as someone that sews on buttons all the time, it’s more about the quality thread you use that the stitch that makes them last.
I learned how to sew completely from the internet and by myself. You can find a lot of basic sewing tips online. 😉
How do you like ND Sunset?
You took the plunge on the Sunset palette!! Was it/is it worth it?
Absolutely! I have also pulled together what dupes or shades that were close enough as well for my review for Tuesday. But the palette itself was totally worth the Inglot price point of building one from scratch.
It also the first of these Rose/Terracotta eyeshadows palettes on the market that I felt had a good range of looks you could create from it. No offence to ABH Modern Renaissance lovers, I just found it boring when I was able to play with it in person so I wasn’t interested in picking it up even if it’s 1/3 of the price point. and the UD Heat is feeling the same way for me.
My feeling about it is, where has this been all my makeup life and why is this one Limited Edition. I feel like out of all of ND palettes this one should be a permanent one. It’s funny that this is my first made in Italy or France Eyeshadows Palette when I’ve been really hesitant about getting a Viseart palette for $100CAN (this one is $166CAN) because of the price point. I think this is the size of palette she should be promoting more over the larger ones (but at $100US would seem fairer).
Haul: Hard Candy Sheer Envy loose setting powder. I really like this one, y’all. It’s a yellow-y powder that’s great for brightening undereyes. It’s also super finely milled–I was surprised at how well it applied.
Weekend plans: Still praying for you! Hmm… my husband is coming home, so probably dinner out tonight and lots of relaxing or errands tomorrow–lol, either/or.
What is something you’ve always wanted to learn?: What a fascinating question! To learn Portuguese. I’ve always been enamored with the language. Now that my husband and I sponsor a girl named Gabriele in Brazil through Compassion, I want to learn it all the more. That’s why I stalk The Muse’s posts about anything Portuguese!
I love spoken Portuguese — to my ear it’s so lyrical. I have a Brazilian colleague and have spent a week in Sao Paolo. Wish I could remember more words than “Obrigado” (which is ‘thank you’).
What a wonderful thing you have done – to sponsor a child. I am sure that everything you do for her will make such a difference to her life. How very kind you both are.
Mellan’s looking good — bright eyes and all. That’s great.
Haul — La Roche-Posay Anthelios 60 sunscreen. Otherwise — a new HVAC system so will be on low buy for a bit.
Weekend — Saturday, tasks and errands; Sunday, a gem show (just for looking, I can’t indulge in anything at the moment, but it’s fun to look).
What I want to learn: to be a better cook. I can do the basics but I want to diversify like into Lebanese, Thai, vegetarian directions.
Haul: Zipola. I’ve been trying to keep my mind off things I don’t have and focusing on what I do.
Weekend: Nothing is firm at this point which is slightly vexing.
Something I’ve always wanted to learn: The list is endless honestly. How to let things go and Krav Maga are at the top.
Erin, your haul is what I desperately need to strive for! At least when it comes to color cosmetics as opposed to my regular skincare, mascara, eyeliner refills. Anyway, I admire your self-restraint! ?
Haul: MAC x Steve J & Yoni P goodies…got the lipstick in Candy Yum Yum, the blush in Sugar or Syrup, and the 217 SH brush. I’m happy with how cute the packaging is, but I was a bit disappointed to not find the collection at any of the MAC counters near me. Even the PRO store isn’t carrying the collection. At least the online shopping experience for this collection was easy and pleasant. I also picked up a bunch of korean cosmetics as I was in S. Korea last week for vacation.
Weekend Plans: birthday parties to attend 🙂
What is something you’ve always wanted to learn?: a third language but I haven’t decided which one to commit to. I am bilingual with Spanish being my native language.
Haul:
Beauty Bakerie ($6 off using points): Lip Whip (Petty Cakes)
ColourPop: Pressed Powder Shadow (Ready or Yacht, Muscle Beach, Tiny Tangerines, Two Piece), GWP – Ultra Satin Lip (Dopey, London Fog), Blotted Lip (Bee’s Knees), Super Shock Highlighter (Perilune), Free Palette – Down the CP rabbit hole again! Thanks to Katherine for Perilune!
Gerard (GC Squad Exclusive Offer): Star Powder (Grace, Audrey)
Giorgio Armani: Power Fabric Foundation (3.5), Emporio Armani Because It’s You
Indiescents: 4160 Tuesdays Mrs. Goss & The Gloss Lemon Sherbet, 3 free samples
Lunatick Cosmetic Labs: Lipstick (Lacrimosa)
Origins (20% off): Plantscription – Youth-Renewing Sheet Mask, Powerful Lifting Overnight Mask, Powerful Lifting Cream, High-Potency Night-A-Mins Mineral-Enriched Renewal Cream (GWP), 5 free samples
Sephora: UD Go Naked Perfume Oil Rollerball, UD The Velvetizer Translucent Mix-In Medium, Alterna Caviar Repair Rx Instant Recovery Shampoo, KVD Blush (Lolita), BECCA Light Chaser Highlighter (Opal Flashes Jade, Amethyst Flashes Geode), Becca Liquid Crystal Glow Gloss (Amethyst x Geode, Opal x Jade), Sephora Collection Foot Mask (Almond – 3), Stellar Cosmic Face Powder (Haze) deluxe sample, YSL deluxe sample set, NARS Lipstick deluxe sample (2, Orgasm). Big thanks to Katherine for the heads up on the Becca!
Ulta (In Store): Algenist Pore Correcting Anti aging Primer, Sally Hansen Color Therapy Nail & Cuticle Oil, UD x Basquiat Eye Pencil (Anatomy)
Weekend plans: I am attending a retirement party that’s 3 hours away. My bff is riding with me and we’re making it a girls weekend away.
What is something you’ve always wanted to learn?: I’ve always taken the time to learn what I’m interested in. Right now, I’m trying to learn more about fragrance. I’d also like to buy a piano and get back to it. I took lessons for 6 years and used to love to play…so I don’t know if that counts as learning but re-learning for sure 🙂
What do you think of the Algenist primer? I bought it because a YouTuber I like adores it and it is fine for me but it doesn’t seem that different from Benefit or Dr. Brandt or even the Rimmel that I have been using lately.
I’m testing it on a full day tomorrow; right now I’ve only swatch tested it on the back of my hand. I’ll get back with you.
I’m happy with the Algenist primer. It lasted all day and provided a nice canvas (I used the Armani Power Fabric as foundation). I was in 90 degree+ heat and high humidity. Didn’t make me oily. Nothing budged.
Thank you for letting me know. I also wore it in 90 degree weather yesterday and did not get shiny but I was only outside for about two hours.
Haul: NYX duochrome highlighters–Lavender Steel, Snow Rose, and Twilight Tint. UD lipsticks in Mosh Pit and Ravenswood.
Weekend plans: My daughter’s musical tonight and Saturday–she’s the monkey king in Wizard of Oz 😀
What is something you’ve always wanted to learn?: Akkadian (a cuneiform language–yes, I’m a little strange!)
Does a haul count when you use Poshmark? Because I hauled the KKW liquid lipstick set on Poshmark, I missed the last two restocks and I got it for MSRP – a lot of people have been charging $60-$90+ for the same lipsticks, but someone listed it for $45 and it was as good as mine! BNIB too!
My weekend plans is attempt to relax, possibly go to the gym to work through my depression with exercise. Exercise always cheers me up, and it is a natural anti-depressant. I think that would make for a great weekend.
I’ve always wanted to learn how to sew too! I would love to make my own clothes, really stand out and look unique. 🙂
Hauled too much this week since I had a bunch of birthday rewards to redeem. Picked up two lipsticks from the MAC Stevie J collection, a couple of shades of Dose of Colors liquid lipstick and a lipglass in love child from Ulta, as well as one of the new nude shades from Huda Beauty at Sephora. Finally bit the billet on the Burberry highlighter as well, it’s more sparkley than I expected. Still experimenting with kbeauty so I picked up some skincare this week as well.
I’m looking forward to a relaxing weekend of doing nothing at all, last weekend was a busy one!
Oh my what a sweet photo! Glad to hear your doing better. Christine my mom and grandmother were seamstresses and all I can do is sew on buttons. When they wanted to teach me at the time I was very young and not interested but now I wish I knew how to sew they could make anything!
Haul: Refills of some Tatcha products.
Weekend Plans: Small get together for a cookout and pay bills.
What I always wanted to learn: Another language among many other things!
My grandmother has a lot of talent in that department, too! My mom can do some things as well but not as extensively as my grandmother for sure!
My mother and mother in law were great at dressmaking because those were the days when mothers had to make all the clothes for their children.
Hi Genevieve,
Those were the good old days! Family actually came first & hard work was appreciated. My mom and grandmom worked as seamstresses and my mother had two sewing machines in our home one was a professional one from my uncles hand bag factory and another was a regular sewing machine. She worked at a “Sweat Factory” that is what they were called back then with her mom. She also would make clothes at home on the weekend or after work for a woman who would sell them at high end boutiques in the New York City! My mom would make a small amount of money but the women selling them made a lot of money.
A lot of women were really exploited for their talents then, and probably now too. The mothers of our generation worked really hard, especially those who migrated from a decimated war torn Europe to find a better life for their children in the US and Australia.
Hi! I’m addicted to Drunk Elephant and am having the best skin moment now (knock on wood). I’ve struggled with acne for years! Please let us know how you like the jelly cleanser. So happy to hear your frustrations are near over. I’m knee deep in serious issues at work (not my own but have to deal with them as management) and can’t wait until things clear up.
I hope your work issues resolve as well as they can and soon!
I’m glad things are getting a little better for you.
Hmm…definitely interested in hearing your thoughts on the Drunk Elephant Jelly Cleanser
Haul: Nothing…I’m gearing up to finalize plans to see the eclipse in August and book my flight
Weekend plans: My state does an open house once a year. I’m doing a river cruise and hopefully heading to a few historic sites depending on time.
What is something you’ve always wanted to learn?: There are a few things I’m teaching myself and would really like to be better at are: painting, drawing, and sewing. Something that would be nice to take a class for is dancing.
I’ve thought about traveling to see the eclipse. Where are you going to go?
I thought about OR but then my friend diverted my attention to Nashville. I might end up in South Carolina. It’ll be a surprise lol
Where did you think about going?
Ooh, where are you watching the eclipse? My parents live right on the projected line south of St. Louis, so we are spending the weekend with them and watching it there. Believe it or not my birthday is the day of the eclipse (Aug 21) so it’s going to be a fun/weird/coincidental trip!
Funny, I was actually thinking about going to STL the other day for the eclipse.
I’m really leaning toward Nashville but might end up in S. Carolina.
Haul: I got a few local-made things in Maui – pina colada soap, pineapple, mango, coconut, and macadamia lip balms, and mango lotion.
Weekend plans: Finishing up the work at the old house so we can list it this week. Putting together the IKEA furniture we bought.
Something you’ve always wanted to learn: how to play the piano.
Haul: Urban Decay Vivid eyeliner (I’m not done with Basquiat yet and here comes Naked Heat!), Becca Opal flashes Jade Light Chaser Highlighter, Drunk Elephant rise + glow duo
Weekend plans: PACKING. We move in less than three weeks and I’m really behind… Very sorry to hear that you’ve been having a difficult time of it, by the way
What’s something you’ve always wanted to learn: Languages! I’m pretty much bilingual (English/ French), but my whole life I’ve wanted to know how to speak in as many languages as possible. I have actually been studying, so I’m developing skills in a few others. Slowly.
Packing up is one of the hardest and soul destroying jobs around. Where are you moving to?
We’re actually only moving up the street. My husband has developed multiple sclerosis and is now in a wheelchair, so our current 3rd-floor walkup isn’t an option. Moving to a building with an elevator! Still takes just as long to pack, though 😛
MS is such a debilitating disease and it must be difficult for you both. Moving to an apartment that has an elevator makes sense and I guess you are doing most , if not all the packing. Good luck with the move.
Sewing is great. I learned in 6th grade and love it. One of the first gifts I made(?) for my bf was sewing my bf’s favorite underwear that was falling apart. He was very happy lol.
Haul: kvd lolita blush and eyeshadow
Weekend plans: study for pharmacy board exam ug
What I want to learn: swimming (For survival lol), fashion design (For fun)
I went to the Sephora rouge event last weekend. I love my store because the majority of the SA’s have been there since the store opened several years ago. They know me and I know them so it makes my shopping experience very nice. They had a healthy spread of food out for everyone as well. I liked the goodie bag and I guess depending on the store they vary because it had different items that what some of the others have posted.
Haul: Drunk Elephant Jelly Cleanser, Too Face Glitter eyeshadow palette (I might return because it was an impulse buy item that I definitely don’t need), BECCA bronzers – Ipanema Sun & Maui Nights, Touch In Sol No Poreblem Primer.
I ordered a couple MAC Prep n Prime coconut setting sprays from Belk and someone stole them off my doorstep. I have told UPS not to put items right in front of my door because it can be seen from the street but they obviously don’t listen. I also had a Sephora order taken; so dang annoying! I got a refund from Belk because of the MAC spray was limited edition and no longer available; Sephora reshipped a replacement for the other stolen package. I had a couple orders on the way so what I have done is registered an account with UPS. The online system gives you the option of changing the delivery date or location. I will for no on have my packages delivered directly to my local UPS store where I can pick it up. I think someone in my neighborhood is watching the UPS truck for deliveries. I work so I am not always home when deliveries arrive. I know that Sephora sometimes uses On-Track for deliveries so if I do order anything else online I will include an item like nail polish that has to be shipped via UPS ground. I know this was a long post but maybe it will help someone else that has had this happen.
What a bummer! Amazon also has “lockers” in places like CVS and will deliver to them.
Thank you Lesley! I was ranting so hard that I forget to answer the other questions LOL! I always wanted to learn to salsa dance and my weekend plans are to just relax. 🙂
Haul: All four of Kiko’s Bright Quartet Baked Eyeshadow Palette (quads) — I’m supposed to be on a low buy until I’ve had a chance to try my goodies from previous hauls but I couldn’t resist 30% off with an additional 10% coupon. -_-
Weekend: QT with the BF before he moves several States away next week. :’-( I was on a waitlist for a puppy (expected to come home in Aug) but the breeder told me today she wouldn’t have one available for the litter that was born yesterday so now I have to try my backup (who tends to be bad at returning emails, so I might need a backup to my backup). So overall, a sad weekend.
Always wanted to learn: I’m actually working on it right now! I take private tumbling lessons; still trying to get my standing back handspring even though I’m in my 30s, LOL.
That’s a couple of bits of sad news – your BF moving away and no puppy! I hope it all gets sorted out with a doggie soon.
Good morning, you handsome fella Mellan! ???
Haul: Everything arrived! Trying to remember whether my Jouer Skinny Dip palette arrived after last week’s FFHF, or later that day? Either/ or, it is LOVELY! Received my MAC Steve J & Yoni P goodies, too. Absolutely love Yoni Crush lipstick, Sugar Or Syrup DOES show up on me, and Soba is perfect as a transition shade for the true gold shades in Skinny Dip. Received UD Quiver and Sheer Slowburn. Ordered from Beautylish: The Ordinary “Buffet”, Rosehip Oil, and 2% Retinoid, also FINALLY: Inglot Duraline to save some gel liners that have become dryish. I am seriously impressed by Beautylish’s wonderful way of carefully packing my order and their CS is fantastic! Went to Ulta and bought It Your Skin But Better CC Cream in Medium-Tan, Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in Medium, as it’s a dupe for Nars Radiant Concealer in Honey, and a new tube of Jack Black Lip balm.
Weekend plans: I want to get my hair cut! But I have SERIOUS trust issues with others cutting my hair, though. Gives me the Willy’s! Oh well, wash and condition this heavy load, at least. Possibly touch-up roots. Finish the Mani I began on Tuesday….yeah. Meeting on Sunday is gonna be a good one!
What is something that you always wanted to learn: Self control, self restraint. Especially when it comes to learning to stick to a budget and actually save some $ for more important things. Also, I’ve been a work in progress at learning to tame my sometimes snarky, sarcastic, very impulsive responses, mostly verbal quips or facial expressions, when upset or angry. (My smirk out-Billy Idol’s Billy Idol! ) I am trying, though.
Beautylish is one of the few retailers that seems to understand that powder products need more care in packing than a lipstick!
Fingers crossed Duraline saves your dried out liners!
Exactly! And that all those glass bottles needed extra padding and to tie all 4 boxes together. Love that company now!
Hopefully, it will save MAC Siahi and CP HoHo…those 2 are my favorite color gel liners.
Life’s curve balls sure can weigh heavy upon us! Hope that you can get some much needed and very well deserved R&R and time to decompress, Christine, and that those stressful issues get sorted out for the better! ?
Like how Ulta has such terrible packaging for their shipments baffles me since their business IS beauty…
I just dealt with Amazon shipping me a powder eyeshadow in a box with some air pockets… which does nothing when you have a 2″ item floating around the entire time.
So funny – I have no issues with Ulta packaging but I had another Sephora order decimated this week because they failed to pack properly and my entire bottle of Alterna shampoo spilled out on everything!
This is precisely *why* I have steered clear of ordering from Ulta; so many utter horror stories of broken powder products, and other bizarre mishaps! It is totally unacceptable that they still continue to be so negligent in how they handle and pack their merchandise. And some have even had mishaps with Sephora, like Michele just mentioned. I do believe the problem lies in their distribution warehouses.
I’ve had Ulta send me the wrong shade of a product I ordered twice in the recent past. How a company that specializes in beauty isn’t able to deal with the shipping of different shades, I just can’t understand!
Once it was for an LE Lancome palette, so not a cheap purchase either, and they refunded me instead of trying to send the right one… I guess I’m really unlucky, because if they do that a lot I don’t think they’d still be in business!
Haul: UD x Jean-Michel Basquiat Gold Griot palette, Nars Liquid Blush in Luster, Supergoop mousse sunscreen, Felicia the Flamingo lip balm from Sephora. Also received my order from YSL’s website with Glossy Stain Pop Water in Dewy Red and Volupte Oil-in-Stick in Rose Rive Gauche.
Weekend plans: nothing special!
Something I’ve always wanted to learn: writing code! It would be so helpful for my own blog and it would have helped me at work many times as well.
A fellow UD Jean-Michel hauler! What do you think of Gold Griot?
I just received it yesterday! The packaging is absolutely fantastic, and the shade selection looks great. I haven’t tried it yet but I will this weekend! What do you think of yours?
Lulle, I like it irrationally. By that I mean, I definitely have dupes and do not need it, but like it anyway. It’s nice that it is not a gigantic palette with too many color choices (I get overwhelmed), and I never thought I’d say this but I am relieved that the eye shadows are not super pigmented so that I can build them up to my liking without ending up at work with my eyes uncomfortably bold. The jury is definitely out on whether this was a wise purchase. I am at that point where I have enough make up that it is time to be choosy, and only add items to my collection that really make me happy.
Haul: Pixi Glow Mist (I like the tonic well enough and read some good reviews of the Glow Mist) and Sephora Beauty Amplifier Set and Refresh Mist (I also wanted to get a travel size of MUFE’s Mist&Fix so I could compare them, but they were sold out of it).
Weekend plans: Gym, some gifts to buy and brunch with a friend/former neighbour who is back in town. Beyond that, blissfully nothing, though we have to remember to get out and dig a hole for a new clematis I bought.
Something I’ve always wanted to learn: how to knit with ease, how to speak Spanish (I went to Barcelona 2 years ago and it’s the most wonderful city; I’d love to go back and stay for a week or two in an apartment and shop in the markets, etc. but first I need to learn some basic Spanish – probably not “need” so much as “want”)
Haul: well… Nothing until yesterday late night. I placed an order on beautylish for a few WG eye brushes which I thought were being discontinued (but aren’t because their a squirrel). ?
Weekend : no idea! Nothing specific at least! I usually like to refill for fruits and veggies. Cook something good, go for a walk, watch a few movies. I do want to read a lot though!
What is something you’ve always wanted to learn?
So many things! Learning Japanese, learning to code (I actually started many years ago for those two), become good at cross-stitch, how to garden. Those are the main ones ?
Haul: Nothing much. I picked up the Chanel Perfection Lumiere Foundation as my Cle de Peau has started separating on me in the heat. I have never had a foundation do that on me before. I thought I would just go back to my foundation from last summer, (one that I have always loved), the Chosungah 22 C & T Blend Luminous Light in shade 01 which was the perfect peachy undertoned foundation for me. I can’t find it anywhere. I use to purchase at Sephora but they don’t have it. I have tried all of the Korean on-line companies that I normally purchase from and not there either. I am wondering if they stopped making it which would be a pity. The dispersal method was great with foundation being dispersed when the head was turned one way and a skin care, honey based primer being dispersed when twisted the other way. I am really bummed. I did see it at Mecca Cosmetics in Australia but not sure if I can order from there and shudder to think what it would cost, (although I am sure many Australian’s have to pay that cost just to get their products). I will try the Chanel but so disappointed.
Weekend Plans: I am doing some yard work, flower planting and patio sprucing up while the weather allows.
Something I have wanted to learn: I have to say crocheting. My mom and aunts all do beautiful crocheting and I have tried a couple of times but cannot get the tension down. My Mom says it takes lots of practice to get it right and I guess I am not that patient.
Yes, we do pay top dollar here in Aus for even your mid level beauty products. Eg MAC lipstick $36, Revlon foundation $37 etc.
I have just looked up Mecca’s homepage for you and normally they only ship within Aus from their website, but for international customers they ask that you ring the number below.
Customer Service team on +613 9420 7373 from Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm AEST
Thank you, Genevieve. That was so sweet of you. I know that we have it pretty good here in the states with easy shipping, quick shipping times, low cost and the ability to return products, no questions asked. I will give them a call. I searched on Amazon and Ebay yesterday and couldn’t find it anywhere and then tried again this morning and found one in shade 04 which I am pretty sure will not match me. There were only 4 shades made and I always took the lightest one. This one was $98 USD which is crazy. If I can get my shade at Mecca then I might get it for about the same as the Ebay one and be able to get me correct shade. Thank you so much again.
Haul: NOTHIN! I actually closed one my main bank account this week and opened a new one so I’m in between cards and all that for the first time since I was 17! I can’t easily spend money right now… I don’t know what to do with myself.
Weekend plans: Tonight we have tickets to see Janis Ian live which I’m very excited about! Otherwise work work work around the yard and house getting things ready for the wedding! It’s a bit mad. Meeting an interior designer friend for lunch on Sunday to bounce ideas around.
What is something you’ve always wanted to learn?: I learned how to sew early on! Nobody else in my family did. I was just interested in it. In middle school the other kids made tshirts or shorts for home economics… I made a kimono. LOL!
I’ve always been interested in perfumery actually and I’ve JUST started taking a course on it – which I’m also excited about. Plus it gives me a convenient excuse to duck out of house duties now and then for a break to do my homework 🙂
A course on perfumery sounds fantastic! Who is getting married?
Me! 🙂 Which is exciting and also adds to the anxiety! LoL! The perfume course is a lot of fun so far!
Not much of a haul – hand and foot masks from Sephora . Finally opened my Tarte Nature Discovery set & tried the Clay Blush . It was like theatrical makeup. I threw it out .
Weekend – Volunteer work and errands Sat. Sunday there’s church, church picnic, Human Rights Rally and then a political event .
1st weekend of heat back here in New England & hopefully we can fit in some swimming .
Mellan has such beautiful, soulful eyes.
Haul, Jouer Skinny dip Eyeshadow Palette arrived, along with Jouer Lip balm (it’s called lip enhancement or something like that). I love it, and have used it for years. To get up to £ 50 I also bought a NYX highlighter in Snow Rose.
I have a lot of things on the way here. I think I went a bit mental with the online shopping. But I’ll save that for when it arrives.
Weekend, nothing special, I feel my weekends are the most boring you can imagine, I never have any plans, well, hardly ever.
Something I always wanted to learn, a lot to be honest, some languages, better English, cooking, sing, I can’t carry a tune if my life depended on it 🙂
I’m glad things are looking better for you, Christine.
Haul: Giorgio Armani eye tints Navy Lights, Italian Riviera, and Sunset – gorgeous!
Weekend plans: The usual – laying low, cooking and doing laundry and tidying up. It is beautiful out so we might head down to the coast for some shopping and an overnight stay.
What is something you’ve always wanted to learn? Makeup application the way MAC does it!
I’m so glad to hear things are getting better for you, Christine. 🙂
Haul: I had a pretty rough week, so I broke down and ordered the Laura Geller Beauty Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator in Diamond Dust as retail therapy. I’m embarassingly excited to be getting it. It should arrive in the next couple days.
Weekend plans: Nothing special. We’re still recovering form camping last weekend. lol
What is something you’ve always wanted to learn? How to sing properly. I don’t even want to be good. Just not so bad that I embarass myself. I’ve been told I’m an alto, but I need singing lessons to figure out how to use my voice properly. Maybe someday.
How did everyone go camping? I hope the weather was good. I love camping myself, but it can be miserable when it rains.
My hubby and I were in the pickup camper, and our sons slept on air mattresses in the tent. We had beautiful weather, though. For the first time, we were able to show our sons the whole mountain and the caldera.
Past trips have included late snow blocking the roads well into spring; unseasonably heavy fog in the middle August, and other “fun” Pacific Northwest weather. LOL
Thanks, Tammy! 🙂
What a gorgeous part of the world you live in. The Pacific Northwest would be my first place to visit if I went to the States. Thank goodness the weather was great and I am sure your boys would have loved it.
Rachel, I am sorry you had a rough week but it makes me smile to know you bought yourself a little something that makes you feel “embarrassingly excited.”
Haul: The new Real Technique brushes (with the white handles) – I haven’t tried them yet, but they feel really soft.
Weekend plans: Nothing too much, I hope! I’ve got 7 more weeks to go of teaching, and it can’t come soon enough…I’m burnt right out.
What is something you’ve always wanted to learn?: I’ve always wanted to know another language fluently.
Another beautiful shot of Mellon. He’s our doggie pin up boy!
I hope you have had a better week Christine, and don’t worry about being behind. It will all work out in the end.
Haul: Seeing as it’s sale time here (not that the big brands have really joined in!) I’ve purchased a few products from the Swisse Care line – cruelty free and rates well: The Sweet Almond cleanser, Day and Night time moisturiser, eye cream and Argon oil. It was recommended on Nourished Life – a retail website that is devoted to organic, vegan and cruelty free skincare and beauty products.
I have ordered the Clarins Natural Brown (03) eyeshadow quad – have been eyeing it off for awhile, but when it was nearly half priced I thought – that’s divine intervention happening here!
Weekend Plans: It’s a long weekend here in Aus and it’s cold, but sunny – my favourite kind of weather. On Saturday we’re going out for a long drive through the mountains and stop off for afternoon tea somewhere yummy. Sunday – visiting my sister and Monday – having the family over for dinner.
A little aside here – during the week when I had Olivia, my 3 year old grand daughter, she informed me that her white ‘tapping’ shoes were now too small and she would ‘appreciate’ (her word) another pair, OK Nona? The long and short of it was that we went into the nearest children’s shoe shop to get her a pair. The first pair were too narrow, the second pair she tried on had a white sole – you should’ve seen her face – mouth turned down, shoulder slumped etc. Then we found a patent shiny leather black pair – well, the change was instant. She loved these hard soled shoes that made the tapping sound. She tapped and danced her way around the shop and into the shopping centre’s walkway. Needless to say, that’s what we bought. All along the centre she danced and tapped. I was very happy for her and phew – we found a pair!
Wanted to learn: Cycling is one and playing a guitar.
A long drive in the mountains and stopping off for afternoon tea sounds lovely. I feel like all I ever do is work. I really need to change my life style.
I love your story about finding the right tap shoes for your granddaughter. I love buying things for my grandchildren and it’s best when they pick out the item they love and I get to see the joy on their faces.
You do work very hard and as I recall, have a really challenging profession. Quite a few years ago I read somewhere that you need to see or do some beautiful every week. At that time I had a challenging classroom, a difficult principal and a leadership role in the very large school I worked in. As a stress release I started going out every Sunday afternoon for a lovely drive. Sometimes we would have lunch in a winery or go for afternoon tea. It made all the difference to me.
Working less is a good thing too.
Haul: I got a Simple Human Mirror on sale at Bed, Bath and Beyond and had a 20% off coupon that I was able to use. That made it half price, and I was absolutely thrilled!! I love this mirror so much!! I also got MAC Plum Lipliner, Plum Dandy Lipstick, Viva Glam ll Lipstick, Taraji P. Henson Lipstick and Lipglass. I like all three lipsticks on top of the Plum liner, and I’ve also worn Taraji over Rebellious. The eyeshadows I got were the Lorac Pro Palette, which is a pretty little trio of brown shadows. And last week I caught the Jeffree Starr Beauty Killer Palette on sale. Last thing was the Urban Decay Naked Perfume Oil. I’m not sure what to think about it just yet; I want to like it but it’s pretty overwhelming. It’s like a cross between gardenia, honeysuckle… and Off bugspray. It’s unlike any other perfume I’ve ever known. Weekend plans: Working 7p-7a Saturday and Sunday, sleeping during the day. What is something you’ve always wanted to learn? How to ice skate!! I can’t even stand upright on ice skates, lol. I’ve only been a few times, but would love to learn.
What a great haul! Now I am going to have to go back in the house, pull out all my MAC fuchsias and plums, and play!
Haul: dribbled and drabbed about most of it elsewhere. Also scored some Couvent from Ulta and their brush cleaner. The formula is’t bad, but the nozzle is a bloody disaster. So I decanted it into a spray bottle. So, it looks like a shake up biphase product, due to being poured in on top of Japonesque. Guess it is! Not doing my free-for-points MR until later. Plans: had a feel punk all day fri, so glad sat is off and don’t have to go back to work until sun late afternoon. Hanging with the pups. Watching antihauls with phyrra and Kimberly Clark. Just the name cracks me up. A drag queen choosing the name of Kleenex… reading. Clean up. Maybe sort, cull, reorganize eye pencils. When I didn’t know instantly where oxblood was, I knew it was time. Some clothes unboxing. Weather went from early march to summer, instantly. Learn: read music. I would love to hear in my mind’s ear, what composers and songwriters wrote on paper. And Arabic. Started it, but my job interfered, and I had to drop out.
Haul: Nothing this week for me!
Weekend plans: I hope things get less frustrating and you get the work you want to get done, Christine! As for weekend plans I had a really bad day on Friday in terms of pain so the weekend (and possibly next week) is going to be recovering from that.
What is something you’ve always wanted to learn?: FRENCH! I’m half-French and even a citizen but my dad never bothered to speak it to me and my sister. I have five cousins from two aunts (and their awesome husbands) and I don’t get to have a relationship with any of them thanks to the language barrier. I took classes and tried Rosetta Stone when I was younger, and then did DuoLingo for over 3 years every day more recently but I was already sick by then and whatever is causing the pain and disability is messing with my short-term memory (thank god for phone alarms or I wouldn’t even remember if I took my meds!) so I basically stalled completely on that and then realized it was doing more damage to try to learn than to just let it be for now. At some point, probably in the Fall, I’m going to (maybe moving to) France as it looks like the docs there are the only ones who will bother to treat me unlike the US and Canadian ones so at some point I may learn via immersion, though it may be mostly medical jargon at first XD. If I do get better (BIG if, and even then it would be a measure of degree) than I’m not sure I’ll go back to the US as they didn’t bother to help me and if the French do, I might rather live there and contribute to the country that actually cared, and in that case I’ll definitely finally learn French. So possible silver lining to a half-decade of illness I guess?
Haul: Sigma Naturally Polished Brush Set, Sigma Most Wanted Brush Set, Real Techniques Setting Brush, Nars Blush in Torrid, Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit in Sweets and Chanel Perfection Lumière Velvet Foundation in 10 Beige (I chose the color online and it’s a perfect match! yey!).
Weekend Plans: Saturday the sun was out and I went to the beach, Sunday I stayed at home all day on the sofa.
