  • Haul: Giorgio Armani Sunrise Bronzer, Dior High Fidelity Eyeshadow Palettes (4 of 5 of them)
  • Weekend plans: I’d like to have a weekend free of technical glitches! That would be amazing.
  • Are you an organized person?: Sort of. I’m not meticulous, and I’m not a “neat freak.” I’m not messy, and I like things to have their place, but I can be a little slower to put things back in their place depending on what else is going on my in life.

Weekend plans: Normally I’d say mani but as I was up at 2 am, I already did it! The weekend is going to depend on the weather. I’d really like to take a quiet drive/road trip.

Are you an organized person?: Yes, obsessively.

Michele @Binxcat4ever Avatar

Hahahahaha – fair question! Well, I used to have a beauty blog. That’s when I started buying a lot of makeup. I tried to get at least 1 thing from every new release (more if feasible). I suspended the blog due to time constraints of a full time job and actually wanting friends and family 🙂 (LOL) But I’ve continued to post my swatches across social media. It’s like a hobby so I don’t have to have the necessary dedication and time commitment required to do a good blog. I purge my stash at least once a month, if not more often. Basically I give away anything that I have a dupe for and shades that don’t work for me. Almost all samples get given away to friends or a homeless and/or womens shelter. So just bc I give it away doesn’t mean the product isn’t good.

janine Avatar

Michele I find you fascinating! I envisioned you working in beauty somewhere with your purchases.

You made my day when you told me I made good choices the other day! Thanks so much I had been wanting to buy those things for awhile.

Julia Avatar

Loving that Mellan pic! He looks ready for summer ?

Haul: I was going to just pass on the Sephora Spring sale, but on the last day I decided to replace my concealer since I’m running low (just stuck with It Cosmetics, after the learning curve I’m starting to like it a lot). Then I noticed that Anastasia Pink Champagne was finally back in stock, which I had been stalking since the holidays, so I ordered a single.

Weekend plans: The weather is going to be awful here – rainy and cold- so probably stay inside. I’d like to catch up on sleep!

Are you an organized person?: Yes, I like to think so. I’m not completely crazy about it, but I like to have things clean and tidy, and I’m a planner in general.

Katherine T. Avatar

Mellan, fun in the shade! OMG, too many sales, too much stuff
*15% off Sephora sale- Peter Thomas Roth Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Cream (keeps selling out at Ulta/Sephora/Dermstore, curious what the hype is about), Clinique Moisture Surge Hydrating Supercharged Serum (also curious about the buzz) , Belif the True Cream Moisturizing Bomb, Viseart Theory Petit Pro (only swatched on arms, mattes are a tad dry but should be fine over primer, shimmers are awesome, great travel palette, well priced), Sehora brand Baby Z Palette, Sephora Classic Mini Multi Tasker Brush, KVD Liquid Lipstick in Love Sick (100 pt reward), Supergoop Everyday Sunscreen (100 pt reward)
*20% Off Ulta Platinum sale +reward dollars – Tarte Metallic shadow in Pop Rock (very similar to Natasha Denona Golden Rose, Tarte has more gold duo chrome, ND has more pink duo chrome), Ofra Liquid Lipstick in Malibu, Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick in On Set, NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Custard, Peter Thomas Roth 24K Gold Pure Luxury Lift & Firm Prism Cream, Maybelline Eyestudio Master Precise Skinny Gel Pencil (super skinny, excellent for tightlining), NARS Smooth & Protect Primer SFP50, Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Soap (HG body soap), Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Style Milk (for dry ends), Mini Z Palettes, Cosrx Honey Ceramide Full Moisture Cream (excellent night cream, thanks for recommending the brand, kjh!),
*20% Dermstore sale – Gehwol Soft Feet Cream (thanks for the rec Michele!)
*40% off MAC Goodbyes – MAC Patent Lip Polish in Berry Black (pretty purplish berry on lips, awesome shine)
*Weekend -weekends have been busy, hope to finally get some rest, play with all my new makeup
*Yes, I like to keep things organized but Hubby is the opposite, so it’s like organizing for two!

Katherine T. Avatar

So far my faves are that Cosrx Honey cream (we’ve been leaving the heater on at night, and the cream really seals in moisture w/o clogging pores, my face is so soft & smooth when I wake up) and that Gehwol Foot Cream (only day 2, and it’s already doing amazing things to my dry winter feet). Thanks again for the recs, kjh and Michele! Super curious about that Clinique hydrating serum, will try next.

Monica Avatar

Haul: a bunch of skin care from Ulta and other refills, the major thing was my deposit for BSB cruise. My vacations are surprises every year lmao. Turks and Caicos here I come!

Weekend plans: Probably seeing the new guy, maybe the daffodil festival

Are you an organized person?: I’m really organized and particular when it comes to my workspace but at home it can range from disaster to putting things back where they belong. It depends on how much traveling is going on in my life at the moment lol

Lacey J. Avatar

Haul: Just ordered last night so obviously not here yet, but I got some colourpop goodies while the 20% off sale was going on.
Picked up liquid lips in the shade Mama, and the shade Friday (a black for fun)
Supershock shadows in Paradox and Game Face, and the pressed shadows in, Centerfold, Criss Cross, Paper Tiger, Stay Golden

Weekend Plans: its my three day weekend but I have been so worn out I don’t really have any plans, we might go to a new bbq place that opened up recently in town, and I’m going to watch Absolutely Fabulous the movie on DVD, so boring haha.

Organized: At one time, maybe, but adulating is hard 😛

Tammy Avatar

I love the Bobbi Brown blush brush. Right now it is still my favorite, despite the recent purchase of two different Chikuhodo blush brushes. We’ll see if the Tom Ford blush brush, which I will be ordering next week, can dethrone it.

Erin Avatar

Haul: Nothing, I haven’t finished photographing my haul from VIB or even testing stuff from it. Several things have come up. Also, prepping for more NARS X CG stuff to hit Sephora hopefully.

Weekend: Not sure. I had some plans, then a major tragedy happened. My neighbor, God rest him took his own life. It’s all over the news, as he was famous before being in the military. I’ve been friends with this guy for a while and seen him almost every day (except when he was out with special forces). It’s kind of shaken me to my core. Plus it’s been nuts with all the attention, top brass and everything around here. Luckily, his family is here helping his spouse and kids. Part of me wants to go out and do all the things and the other part just wants to stay home and cry. Another part of me wants to try use this tragic loss as a wake-up call to the world, our active service members and veterans need more support. They are possibly the most at risk group for suicide and self-harm. No one seems to care much in the outside world it seems but now with something high profile, such as this, we can push reform and get these people some real help.

If I do go out other than food shopping, it will probably be to drive up to the Skagit Valley tulip festival. I think I had plans on Sunday too but I don’t recall what they are. I’m kind of running on fumes!

Organized?: I can be with proper motivation. Proper motivation is hard to come by.

Michele @Binxcat4ever Avatar

Oh wow, so sorry for your loss. It’s disgraceful the lack of adequate care our service members receive. I used to help out at my local VA Center and help vets with their claims and even listening to some of their stories was very difficult at times. I don’t think the general public realizes we lose between 20-22 vets every day to suicide.

AB Avatar

Erin — what a shocking situation, I’m so sorry to hear. My father and my brother were career military, and I saw first hand that they see and live things we cannot imagine, and those experiences take a toll, no matter if it’s a little or a lot, and the “a lot” can be tremendous. Help and support for our military people needs to be so much more. I think there’s awareness but it’s not nearly up to the need. I’m a big supporter of charities and activities in this area; I feel so strongly about it. So sorry to hear.

Linda Avatar

I am so very sorry to read this. That’s just horrible for him, his family, and our country.

My husband’s family is US Navy as far back as you can see. Between all his uncles and his dad, the care, the support — and I would go as far as fair treatment after retirement — is a very black a stain on this nation. Not every suicide can be thwarted, I know that, but the lack of service is appalling. I saw first hand what happened to the men in my husband’s family who served, in wartime as we ask of our troops now, and I was shocked at the lack of..so much they deserved. It makes me angry.

Genevieve Avatar

How awful for his family – especially his wife and children. This is a big focus here in Australia with military personnel and first responders -police, ambulance etc. too.
There definitely needs to be more support counselling for these people, given what they do.
Take care Erin.

Haul: None this week, but I didn’t post last week, so…
UD Kinky blush (which may be going back to Ulta)
UD Rapture blush (backup, since it is my favorite blush, was on sale, and was 5x points)
UD Pallor lipstick
Tarte Make Believe in Yourself palette ?
Pacifica Beachy Punk palette
NYX eye makeup remover
Pacifica coconut micellar water

Weekend plans: Major cleaning and organization. Hopefully I get done with that in time to do other things.

Are you an organized person? Not so much, but I try with varying degrees of success.

Stephanie Avatar

Don’t get me wrong…I have no problems with any other shade I’ve tried. But for some reason, Kinky doesn’t show up well on my face, and I think it pulls a little orange on my skin.

Stephanie Avatar

I like it, but so far I’ve been using it (and KVD Pastel Goth) as a companion palette with Make Believe in Yourself. The jury’s still out on how well it works on its own, but that will get tested out this weekend.

Kimberly Avatar

We have a long weekend here (Monday’s Labour Day) so I’m totally feeling Mellan’s vibes.

Haul: Sephora had 10% off AND double points because it was my birthday this week, so I splurged quite a bit. My Glossier order also finally shipped so I got that too this week.

I repurchased UD Naked Skin foundation but in 2.0 this time (I’ve been using 3.0) primarily to lighten what I already have. It was between this and the MUFE Water Blend; I went with UD because the price point and value was better IMO.

Purchased –
KVD Thunderstruck: I had been lusting over it since last year so I decided this was finally a good time to get it. It’s such a gorgeous silver-gold-rosy iridescent shade. Longevity-wise, I do get creasing with it after 6-7 hours even with UDPP. However, my lids are oily so most eyeshadows crease on me in some way, usually on the inner part of the lid. YMMV.

Rosebud Salve: I can never resist lip balm so I bought into the hype and aesthetic. Gosh darn if that rose smell isn’t nice though. Not $18-nice but I’m glad I didn’t pay full price for this.

Glossier Boy Brow in Black: Good but overpriced. I paid $20 for this after international forwarding. Essence Make Me Brow is cheaper and better hold even though it’s not matte and doesn’t come in black. Would rather spend my money on other products with greater impact.

Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser: The rose scent is a lot stronger than I imagined. Soothing, but I’ve been getting CCs lately so would need to test it over a longer period of time. I hope to slowly reduce my dependency on Cetaphil as I fear it’s the cause of my dehydrated skin.

GWP/Free:
Lancome Bi-facil, Sephora Tarte Birthday set

Weekend plans: Work. An art book fair with my friends. American Gods.

Are you an organized person?: Relatively so, but I feel like I have too many things to keep track of sometimes.

Katherine T. Avatar

Happy birthday Kimberly! Ooh KVD shadows, yesss. I have oily lids too, must’ve tried 20 of the top rated eye shadow primers (no joke), including all the UD ones, and they all creased except for the Wet N Wild eyeshadow primer. After that, I developed an eye shadow addiction. Not sure where you are located or if you can get your hands on it, but thought it was worth mentioning.

Joyce Avatar

Haul: Makeup Revolution Ultra Flawless eyeshadow palette, Stila Perla liquid lipstick sample

Weekend plans: Finish out the semester of school well! Trader Joe’s, farmer’s market, church.

Are you an organized person?: Somewhat. I have a place for everything, but things can get messy after a bit. This isn’t really organized but I’m really particular about bathroom cleanliness: I can’t stand water droplets everywhere or toothpaste in the sink (or the tube squeezed from the middle!!!!) or towels hung haphazardly.

Haul: I was going to wait to share my Sephora Haul until I got a chance to try everything but realize now that may take a month or more. The big splurge for me was Tom Ford’s Soleil Blanc perfume. I got a sample of this a few weeks ago and as soon as I put it on, I knew I had to have it. I got the Viseart’s Warm Matte palette, which is very nice, and Marc Jacobs Beauty Dew Drops Coconut Gel Highlighter in Dew You (I haven’t had a chance to use this yet). I was not going to get anything else but then saw Christine’s report that the NARS x Charlotte Gainsbourg collaboration was available when the Sephora spring sale first started, so I immediately placed a second order for the Velvet Due Eyeshadows in Old Church Street and Rue Allent, as well as the lip tints in Ephelide and Promise. I was pretty sure my order would be denied, as they did not send it out immediately, but then I received the notice that the items were shipped! I love NARS LE collections and I am looking forward to playing with my new goodies!

I started getting peels approximately one year ago (my present to myself when I turned 50). I started out with glycolic peels, and last month my esthetician suggested the Perfect 10 Peel. I treated myself to a Perfect 10 peel on Wednesday. The Perfect 10 peel includes salicylic acid, glycolic acid, lactic acid, mandelic acid, tartaric acid, resorcinol, pyruvic acid, azelaic acid, retinol, and antioxidants of green tea, reservetrol, cucumber extract and bisabolol. It has been about 40 hours now, and I’m starting to peel. It is not to the point where I can’t work, but I definitely wouldn’t want to be at an event with my face flaking like this. In my mind it is about the same as having a pimple–I am self-conscious, but it’s not a big deal. I definitely cannot wear foundation or BB cream, even applying my moisturizer and sunscreen caused my skin to roll off my face in sections. I guess it is supposed to peel for about a week. In two weeks I will go back for follow up and a special hydrating facial. I am so excited to see the results of this process!

Weekend plans: We are preparing for my daughter’s wedding in June, so we will be doing more clothes shopping. I am really at a loss for a dress to wear. I took all out my dresses to show them to my daughter, and she pointed out that they all have bold colors. All the other family members will be wearing soft colors. I don’t generally love myself in soft colors. Anybody have any suggestions for color options for a mother-of-the-bride who has medium warm complexion and black hair? I’m not sure if I can even tell if a certain color of dress makes my skin look bad.

Organization: I am very organized in a disorganized fashion. I know exactly where everything is and I will flip out if anything gets moved, but it would appear to be a mess to an outsider looking in (i.e. my husband). I am organized with my time during the week, but on the weekend I love to have no schedule, no plan, and not even look at a clock.

Michele @Binxcat4ever Avatar

I’ve heard good things about that TF. Sounds like a gorgeous scent! If you think about it, let us know how your other buys work out for you. I looked at the Marc Jacobs and the NARS but didn’t buy yet.
Good luck finding a dress that not only makes your daughter happy but you as well!

Tammy Avatar

Update: It is now 47 hours since my peel and my face is LITERALLY COMING OFF AT WORK! Warning: Do not go to work the second day after an intensive peel. Now if only there were a back door so I could sneak out of here without being seen, lol.

janine Avatar

I think pastels look beautiful on an olive complexion, I mean what colors look bad? Bright jewel tones look great I’ve even seen yellow pulled off nicely. I’m somewhat olive in the summer certain shades of brown don’t flatter. Pick your fav color you always look best in your fav color!

Tammy Avatar

Janine, I think the thing that sent me into panic was a friend of mine telling me, while we were shopping online for my dress, that my skin would look terrible if I wore champagne, pink, blue, green, yellow, etc. She basically told me I would have to wear a silver, grey or black (and I don’t want to wear those colors to a summer wedding!) I should have known better than to listen to her, as she is the same friend who told me my skin is not warm, and then realized when she put a neutral foundation on me that my skin is indeed warm. (I mean seriously, if I hold my inner lower arm next to the inner lower arm of only any woman in this part of Illinois, 9 out of 10 times I am so yellow by comparison that I look like I have jaundice).

janine Avatar

It’s funny Tammy how some stuff sticks in our minds! Especially the negative ones that feed into our insecurities which as women we all seem to have about our looks.

Remember when they used to say which colors one looks good in? I was told I was a winter .. jewel tones. Yuck! I like jewel tones ok but I love bright colors pretty pinks, green and blues. Peachy pink, blueish greens, pool blues are my favorites.
I bet you’d look good in all those colors she mentioned.
I looked at mother of the bride dresses at Nordys and didn’t see anything I liked. I would think muted colors not necessary unless the bride wanted it. You will look beautiful I bet!

One note about jcrew…expensive but always having sales, they alter but haven’t tried it. I bet you’d look good in the sheath dress with the ruffle at the knee. Classy but flirty.

Genevieve Avatar

Tammy – I was thinking about egg shell blue – a really soft baby blue shade would look lovely with your colouring. It maybe hard to get – it always is when you want a dress for an occasion.
Hopefully all the summery clothes are coming out and you’ll see something you like.

Genevieve Avatar

No, it’s always hard to find what you want when you want it. The design is either wrong or it’s not in your size.
When a friend of mine was looking for a mother of the bride outfit for her daughter’s wedding last summer, she went to a ‘style adviser’ in a major department store here in Melbourne. The choices she choose for my friend were ridiculous – more cutouts than material (she is 67 years old); plunging necklines; backless etc. She ended up purchasing a lovely dress from a boutique shop up in the hills.
Forever New (is that in your area?) often has some lovely lace dresses – but it depends on what the bride is wearing.

Anna Avatar

I don’t know what to say re dress! As I looked at your IG pics, you struck me as a person who looks great in bold bright colors! Maybe there is a way to find a compromise?

WARPAINTandUnicorns Avatar

Haul: LimeCrime HI-LITE Opals palette, Diamond Crushers in Acid Fairy, Choke, and Trip.

Weekend plans: work, resumes and armour finishing details.

Are you an organized person?: I’m a chaos organiser, as much as I like the have things in their place sometimes there place is a very messy area. I wish I had more room to store things more neatly. lol

janine Avatar

Haul: cover fx in blossom and rose gold
Marc jacob fineliner in grey ( cinder) ella

Bite beauty prismatic gloss in oyster and pink. Viseart Boehme some ordinary skin stuff.

Mac hd dimension blush in sweets for my sweet
Mac min lui in fortune red and pink blossom.

I think I will finally be able to wear this red! ?❤️This and thinking of getting a back up or 2.?

I’m working sat 6-7 hrs then will catch up on cleaning/cooking. Maybe the gym? It’s suppose to rain all weekend.

Organized and neat at work not so much at home. But I usually keep dishes and laundry done.

AB Avatar

Haul: Happened on a TJ Maxx, came away with: Elizabeth Arden eye creams Millennium Renewal (too harsh on my skin, burned a bit) and Perpetual Moisture (I like a lot); Revlon colorstay eyeliner in Topaz (pretty, rust color). That’s it; a light purchasing week.
Weekend: an antiques fair; otherwise, regular stuff like gym/pilates, errands etc.
Organized? Just enough to know where most of my stuff is most of the time. I’m more organized than I used to be and less than I’d like to be. I am really satisfied when I’ve accomplished some major organization project, but it’s hard to find it interesting to get these projects started when there are other things to do and adventures to have.

AB Avatar

The last organization project of any real dimension was going through all clothing: sorting into donate/consign/keep/maybe’s piles; improving layout of what sort of clothing goes in which drawer or closet section; adding rod extensions; replacing some of the hangers; etc. That was huge and helpful. More recently two small ones were door-hanging shoe holder to hold cleaning supplies, and moving most makeup items out of drawers into pretty holders like antique glassware and trays. Those all happened over the course of like 6 months; I don’t spend a lot of time in this but sometimes, it just needs doing.

Nancy T Avatar

Mellan looks like the Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers golden Lab wearing his shades! Cool dude!

Haul: Marc Jacobs Dew You? Coconut Gel Highlighter! Plus, a $5 nightshirt from Walmart that has a black background with the cutest print of makeup items on it! And comfy as can be, too. (I bought the 2x-3x one even though I’m only a sz 12, because I wanted it roomy for summer.)

Weekend plans: Do hair, nails, go to meeting on Sunday, pop a load of laundry in today because almost all my black/dark clothing faves need it!

Are you an organized person: Yes and no? In some ways, I am very organized and routine oriented, but I also am that person who lives in an organized mess! Like I usually know precisely where to find something in my home, but it is definitely not a Homes Beautiful tidy place. Nor is it anything like an episode Hoarders either. When I was younger and healthier, I was much neater.

Linda Avatar

Stylin’, swank, Vogue Mellan!

Haul:
Replacements for my Biologique Recherche skincare that I used up. P50 1970; Serum Fluide VIP 02 serum; L’Eauxygénante mist.

Chanel Code Elegants: Ohhhhh, I dunno about this one. The one that arrived from Chanel online is staying untouched for now. I’m going back to the mall tomorrow and trying the quad again — tested it last week, but only quick, quick. Is it heavenly? Yes, all the way to divine. It blends like a dream. But…I think the shade of gold is may be too yellow on me. I’m going to be sure before I dig into the one I have.

Chanel Code Subtils: on the way. I’ll check back in on that next week.

ABH Stick Foundation in Shadow: I like this one for some light shading. Is it essential? Unsure, but I do use it often.

The Ordinary Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG: Follow up from last week. After a week, I like this very much. It does what it says it will do, and does it effectively.

Weekend plans:
Not much. Swims, pups, hubby has a work thing tomorrow. Son #3 coming home on Sunday to change snow tires — now that’s livin’ the dream!

Are you an organized person?
Repeat Christine’s description and that is me to a T. Basically, yes. Not compulsively neat, but can’t live in disarray either. I’m pretty organized at work — better there than home.

Tammy Avatar

Oh no, I did not know the Codes Elegants might be a clash with your skin tone. I really up you wear it a few times before deciding. It wasn’t until the third time that I wore it that I realized I loved it. At first I was put off by the yellow gold too. I hope you will try a variety of looks before returning it. At this point in my make up life, I am learning to hold onto eye shadow palettes that I am iffy about because over time, I tend to figure out how to use them and many times grow to love them.

Here on some tutorials on Codes Elegants. The last video contains two tutorials, one for Codes Subtils followed by one for Codes Elegants.

Hi Tammy!

Thanks so much! xoxo Fantastic YT help! Watched all. I had not seen them. Is this fun or what?! OK, this is what I did…

Hubby was crazy busy this weekend and I had a ton of errands that, dang (insert sarcasm), took me by the mall. Twice I went in with no shadow on to play around with the quad. I had decided to experiment more because what you describe is exactly what happened with Tisse Vendome. It was meh, until I changed things up, and now it’s one I really look forward to using.

I’m still on the fence re Codes Elegants. Changing things up did help for sure. Then Joe, my favorite Chanel counter guy/girl in Nordies totally mixed me up. He/she (I have no idea, but I think he’s in transition is a LOVE!) She showed me the book with the upcoming new line of singles coming out in a few weeks. They are the same formula as the beautiful Codes. The gold, wouldn’t you know, is right in-between the two in the Elegants quad. I may wait and put a quad of singles together with Joe’s help.

Still haven’t decided, but I will say to anyone who might want this quad — don’t hesitate. The quality is gorge! I’m just not sure it’s the best pick for me.

But…I was able to snag the Blush Harmony palette! Can’t wait to use it and just what I have been looking for in terms of shades and mix ability.

Going to sleep on it a bit more. I think the shiny objects of the new line coming out will have me keep this unopened for a while longer.

Tammy Avatar

Linda, I’ve never bought Chanel singles, as I can only go to counter once or twice a year, and for whatever reason they never put me in the singles. I am SO EXCITED to hear about your experimentation with the new singles! You will probably have me buying Chanel items that I never considered, but that’s okay, you’re one of my favorite enablers?

I am SO GLAD you got the blush Harmonies! I love, love, love blush Harmonies.

You know it’s hot when Mellan is sporting shades!!

Haul: Tom (15% off Sephora) Tom Ford Paradiso cheek color and Two Faced Shadow Insurance (thanks to Temptalia survey that reminded me that this was a recommended eyeshadow primer!)

Weekend Plans: It’s going to be cool and raining, so finishing some overdue paperwork and filing and watching Jason Bourne (latest release)

Are you organized?: I’m somewhat organized. I create a lot of “piles” and can find things within them. Organized differently or even put away and I can’t find anything! I can’t stand clutter but I recognize that I contribute to it. and am always looking for better ways to be more organized in general. I do plan, so know what’s ahead and continually strive to be more disciplined to start and finish tasks (I like to start things and I do finish everything I start but am trying to start and finish a few things before beginning another set of items.) At the end of each day, I consult and update my to do list so that I know where my focus needs to be and what tasks take priority.

Two more purchases to report when I bumped into the Boston Store having a 10% off cosmetics sale *in store* until April 29:

– New: Chanel Les Beiges Luminous Colour (bronzer) in Medium Deep. I tried Medium and it barely warmed my skin but I noticed it also had an undertone that looked yellow on my skin (when combined with a powder they used when I asked to see a lighter shade on the other side of my face) – the value of looking at products under in-store lighting and stepping outside the store – with their mirror ( ! ) – for a quick look under natural light!). This highlighter will look especially lovely in the summer.

Tracey E. Avatar

I like Medium Deep even more when I used Wayne Goss’ 00 brush to apply. It gives some warmth without needing to be suntanned/burnt. Medium had a funny look on my skin, so very grateful the Chanel MUA allow me a moment outside with her mirror. She liked the warmer shade. Using WG 00 gave me the subtlety I tried to achieve when trying on Medium. I would never have imagined buying the 3rd darkest shade!

Tammy Avatar

Tom Ford’s Paradiso has just moved to the top of my wish list!

Saw your comments on the Chanel Les Beiges in medium dark. What is your skintone? I am medium warm and trying to figure out what color is right for me.

Haul: I made another Sephora sale haul over the weekend, mostly for “basic” items as opposed to “fun” stuff. I got the Sephora Ultimate 5-in-1 Sharpener, NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base, BeautyBlender Blendercleanser solid, TooFaced Hangover Replenishing Face Primer, Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder, and Urban Decay’s 24/7 Waterline Eye Pencil in Walk of Shame (nude).

Weekend plans: Nada as per usual

Are you an organized person?: I have OCD as part of my anxiety disorder so yes. But even when my disorder is being well controlled with meds and therapy and exercises and such, I have always liked things to be orderly and tidy, probably from living from my slob of a sister for so long XD.

Anne Avatar

I’ve been meaning to get it for ages (survived on some deluxe samples for a while) as I have super dry skin so it’s perfect for me. Glad I finally just up and got it!

Dustin Avatar

Haul: Nothing new since last week I think… I picked up Nirvana Bourbon from the Sephora sale – right at the end! Oh I bought new gutters for the house. Haha so that’s done. The guys that came to install them looked like teenagers so that made me feel uncomfortable. But they also looked like teenagers from an MTV show about sexy pirate vampires… so that made me even MORE uncomfortable. LoL

Weekend plans: Nada at the moment! I woke up feeling sick today so I’ve been in bed and just hoping I feel better!

Are you an organized person?: Not really at all. People think I am because I get really OCD about stuff but that’s not really organized. That’s obsessing about details in a way that sort of makes you miserable. Bit of a difference. Ha

Dustin Avatar

It’s always funny – the difference in homes that climate dictates. People who aren’t from this area think that we’re all crazy up here for not having air conditioning. I don’t know anyone who has air conditioning in their homes though… not in western Washington. We only usually get a week of weather a year that would warrant it – so it becomes an expense that nobody wants to deal with.

Swimming pools are funny up here too. If a house has a pool it will stay on the market for months and months (sometimes over a year) longer than other houses. We don’t have a lot of pool weather here so swimming pools become something nobody wants to deal with: maintenance, repairs, etc. on something that you’ll never use.

Laughed out loud when I saw Mellan’s photo. Well I said I wasn’t going to do any more shopping for a couple of months but my lack of will powder go the best of me. I did pick up Jouer’s Citrine Highlighter and some skin care products from Dr. Dennis Gross. I picked up some more Dior contour lip pencils to add to my growing collection in 463, 573, 169 and 994. I purchased another Tatcha The Essence to have as backup. And NEST Eau de Parfum Collection Coffret to try their different scents. And some cute J.Crew tops & some more clothes.
I am organized but then it starts to go haywire when I don’t have room and I don’t want to throw things out if I would constantly add and remove I would be extremely organized. It may take a little time for me to put things back where they belong so it might look messy. I am clean but not always tidy but I try to be My husband says I am clean but I just need to throw out or give away things that I have not used in this past century.
This weekend it is getting very humid on the East coast so I am trying to stay cool.

maria Avatar

Thanks Christine for the vote of confidence. I really like how smoothly they apply and they are very pigmented and the pencils have good staying power without drying out your lips.

Haul:
I went a little crazy with the Asian snail skincare stuff! I’m hoping that after some time it’ll actually make a noticeable difference in my skin tone 🙂
Skinfood rose & shea butter hand cream (has SPF!) – just ordered this.
Mizon snail recovery gel cream – hasn’t arrived yet.
Benton snail bee high content steam cream – Awesome nighttime moisturizer to go over the Cosrx snail essence.
Missha super aqua cell renew snail sleeping mask – Awesome sleeping mask to use on nights when I don’t use the steam cream.
Mizon all in one snail repair cream – Awesome light moisturizer to go under my sunscreen in the morning.
Cosrx advanced snail 96 mucin power essence – Awesome serum thing to go under night moisturizers.
Mac Velvetease Lip Pencil in Temper Tantrum – Just ordered this. Still on the quest for the perfect orange! For some reason most orange formulas look horrible on me.

Weekend plans: I’m actually having some fun this weekend! I’m going to play board games with some friends tonight, then tomorrow I’m going with a friend to a Japanese garden and then to a cat cafe 😀

Are you an organized person?: Not really! Well, somewhat. I organize but not very well, and it certainly doesn’t look organized.

Lea Avatar

Where did you pick up the Armani Sun Bronzer from Christine? I haven’t seen it a available anywhere yet.

HAUL: Nordstrom – I picked up the new Armani Soft Peeling lotion, Cle de Peau lip treatment with SPF and Sunscreen with SPF 30.

Sephora – Tatcha the Deep Polish Rice Powderand original lip balm, a mini of the Fresh Lotus Cream, and the new Armani Micro-Fil loose powder in pink.

WEEKEND PLANS: None at the moment. I’m winging it.

ORGANIZATION: Yes, very! It makes life easier that way.

Lea Avatar

I’m in Washington, DC and registered with Armani. I still haven’t seen the Sunrise Bronze palette and its corresponding eye palette come up for sale there yet though. Only the regular line of bronzers.

Lulle Avatar

Haul: repurchased my husband’s daily moisturizer with SPF from the Clinique Men line.
Weekend plans: resting. I had outpatient surgery on Monday and getting back to work yesterday was tough. I’m not allowed to do much anyway.
Are you an organized person? I’m highly organized in my head. I can be quite messy in practice. It doesn’t really matter where something is as long as I know where to find it, and I always know. I realize that a messy environment has a negative effect on my mood though, so I try to tidy up regularly.

Where did you find 4 Dior summer palettes Christine? I’m looking at their website and they show only 2 in the collection. I’m also wondering if this summer LE collection will make it to department stores or if it will remain a dior.com exclusive. I never saw the spring collection show up on retailer’s website.

Genevieve Avatar

Mellon looks set for summer in his shades! How cute he is.
Haul: Nothing really, but I am receiving some beauty vouchers for Mother’s Day next week, so I hope to see something I like.
Weekend plans: Thankfully, nothing too arduous – housework, a drive to the hills and probably (most likely) the family will be around for dinner on Sunday night.
Organised person: When I was working full time, I was really organised and my weekends were very structured to get everything done. Now that I have retired, I find I am a bit less organised – especially now that I have grand children and my house resembles that famed New York toyshop…..

Happy Weekend Everyone ! I haven’t even opened all my Sephora sale boxes yet . I need to clear out items from my drawers that I no longer use to make room for new stuff. One thing I opened that I LOVE is Anastasia Eyeshadow in China Rose . It is the perfect lid color for blue eyes . I reordered one for my blue eyed daughter . Organized – yes ! But as someone earlier mentioned, my husband is not so it takes triple the work to stay on top of things . Weekend – organizing a party for 100 at Church on Sunday , most of Sat. will be spent on set up and then Sunday – fingers crossed !

Mellan is one cool doggy! 🙂

Haul: My UD x Basquiat lipstick in Exhibition just arrived. Medusa’s Makeup sub box: Blush in Georgia Peach (beautiful!), Eye Liner Sealer (haven’t tried yet), Eye Liner Brush (haven’t tried yet), and Eye Dust in Helter Skelter (a beautiful blackened navy shimmer, and as a Beatles fan I love the name). Sephora Tranquil (I bought a backup while they were $7) and some samples.

Weekend plans: No concrete plans. My son didn’t end up going to my BIL, so I don’t have to travel and pick him up.

Are you an organized person? I’m usually hyper-organized to the point of being anal retentive, but between managing my sons’ autism and mental health issues and my own peri-menopause brain, I feel like I’m struggling these last couple years with organization and memory. Getting old sucks. 😛

Haul: Latest in Beauty box of 9 deluxe products: Oskia Renaissance mask, Omorovicza Refining facial polish, Maddi Alexander Serene body wash, Miller Harris Rose Silence, Evolve Citrus hand and body wash, Monu Firming moisturiser, 111 Skin sheet mask, Nugg hydrating face mask and Mii Heavenly bronzing gel in 001 along with 2 perfume samples.

Feel unique Pick n Mix samples all from Charlotte Tilbury: Magic Foundation, Light Wonder foundation, Mini Miracle Eye Wand, Scent of a Dream perfume and Secret Salma Hot Lips Matte Revolution lipstick.

My The Ordinary moisturiser finally arrived, yes there’s a lot of fuss about the line, especially about the new Colours line! I am desperate to try both formulations!

Weekend plans: Swimming at the pool with my fiance, daughter and my fiance’s mum on Sat. Sun probably go to church and do some housework, maybe go for a short walk along the canal.

Am I an organised person? Not really, I never had very much executive function and have always struggled with organisation or complex multi tasking tasks like cooking. It has improved over the years but I’ve had to work very hard at it. It’s very easy for me to feel overwhelmed by such tasks so that I avoid doing them at all and so they build up. Even now I won’t do more than 2 courses for a meal because it’s just too much. My fiance on the other hand loves cooking so I’m very happy to leave it to him most of the time!

CeeBee Avatar

Haul: Mizon Vital Firming sheet masks, Lanolips 101 in Strawberry (YUM), Morphe 35E eyehsadow palette, The Ordinary high adherence primer, Lioele Triple solution BB cream and a new mascara that I can’t remember the name of right now…

Weekend plans: Nothing much, just hanging out with my husband and our cats… a friend is coming over on Sunday to make crystal chaton bracelets, so that will be fun. And I’m making loaded macaroni cheese!

Am I organized?: Yes! Not anally retentive enough that everything has to be lined up perpendicularly and colour coded or anything but I know exactly where everything is, even if things looks a bit cluttered sometimes. I deliberately have a “mess screen” in my top drawer at work to stop everyone from helping themselves to all the spare pens and batteries and post it notes and it is very effective!
The look on my work colleagues face the other day when she needed three separate, random items and thought she was going to have to submit a special stationary order (“I need bright yellow post it notes, a thin green highlighter pen and a clipboard – where am I going to find all that?!”) and when I put everything she needed on her desk less than 90 seconds later she looked at me like I was magic 🙂

CeeBee Avatar

The bracelet design/creating colour combinations can take anywhere from a few minutes to infinity, depending on how frustrated you want to make yourself!

Setting the actual crystals probably only takes 10 minutes all up. I use a popsicle stick, super hi tech 😉

Anne Avatar

Hahaha I used to have a “mess screen” in my top drawer at home so my sister wouldn’t steal my stuff!

How do you find The Ordinary? I’ve been wanting to try it out but it seems so overwhelming I don’t know where/how to start.

CeeBee Avatar

Hi Anne,

I love the high adherence primer – I just bought my second tube. The retinol is fantastic and I also like the Buffet serum. I’m also trying some brightening products as I have really bad melasma patches and acne scarring but it’s only been a couple of weeks so I want to give it a bit longer before I decide if they’re effective or not. And the colour foundations have just been released so I will try those when the craziness dies down.

Hope you find something you like!

Pearl Avatar

Oh he is just too sweet!

Haul:
MAC:
Cheeky Bits and Sweets for My Sweet Extra Dimension Blushes

Biologique Recherche:
Lotion P50, Lotion P50 1970, Lait U, Mask Vivant and Mask VIP 02 – these are new and will be worked into my daily routine(s).

Sephora sale:
Peter Thomas Roth Mask Vault

Weekend plans: Laying low with cooking and laundry. On Saturday I might go run errands and then lunch at a winery with a girlfriend.

Are you an organized person?: Yes, and I have to be careful that I don’t over-organize everything. I like everything to have a place and use, and I like things to be orderly. I can’t think in a cluttered space and I can’t work in a place that is in disarray (i.e. cook in a messy kitchen).

Pearl Avatar

Over-organized meaning it’s not enough for me for things to have their place, sometimes I have to organize them in their organized place. Like all of my blushes are alphabetized, or I’ll keep futzing with how I organize my spreadsheets or my palettes because I can’t decide if I want to arrange them by texture or color or eye look, that sort of thing. Sometimes I reorganize cabinets or closets and forget where I have moved things to and wonder why I did it in the first place since everything was fine where it was ?

Anne Avatar

I’d say money well spend on that PTR set! I got the $75 version with five smaller ones (when it had the rose and not the algae one) and it was super worth it. When I run out of them I’ll probably get the Vault if it’s still around. Those are my favorite masks by far!

Pearl Avatar

Yay! I’m excited to try them. I’ve tried the mud mask before and I was quite red afterwards (which probably meant it was working), so it’s good that there are the cooling gel masks in this set too, ha!

Anne Avatar

Also I get you on the over-organize bit. I have OCD which when other mental health stuff gets bad acts up even worse, so it gets in the way a lot and can cause some serious over-stimulation. No fun being hyper-aware of mess. Good luck.

Pearl Avatar

That’s a good way to put it – being hyper-aware of mess. I always feel better after everything is straightened and sorted but walking into a leftover mess, depending on the type of day I’ve had, I can either get hung up on why there is a mess in the first place (“Who left this like this?!”) or just clean and tidy everything and decompress from the day in the process. It’s always a gamble, though. ?

ouineque Avatar

Hahahah, Mellan!

I have been missing out on some FFHF’s, but I did get some stuff… I focussed on lipcare:
‘All about lips’ from Clinique with a little discount, I like it a lot, use it every morning to make my lips smooth.
Bobbi Brown lip balm with spf 15. This actually has a primer in it, I think it’s amazing: sun protection and longevity for all your lipsticks if you wear this.
Also:
NYX matte liquid eyeliner. I had been a while I hadn’t used a proper liquid liner, but this one is very user friendly. Love the matte finish too.
NYX faux black in Burnt Sienna, hoping it would be a dupe of Chanel’s Grenat, which it’s not (it’s more brown, Chanel’s Grenat is more cranberry), but it’s still a nice color. Reminds me of the formula of the Zoeva graphic liners, very soft, very longwearing.
A Tweezerman lash comb. 🙂

And yes finally: a fan brush. I know you love applying highlighter with a fan brush Christine, but I just couldn’t decide if I needed one or not. Well, I did! I got Zoeva’s fan brush and I love it for bronzer and highlighter (hence, I will buy a second one soon).

And I bit the bullet: got Blazing Red lipstick from Bobbi Brown. It’s definitely the right shade of red for me (a bright orange red), just not sure how I like it in this formula (the Rich Lip Color). If I could have tried it in store (retailers did not restock this one, which happens more often: colors that are permanent in the US are limited here) I am not sure if I would have gotten it. But: with all my lipcare stuff underneath I must be able to make it work I guess!

Weekend plans: I have a lot of reading to do. And I spontaneously started tidying up, I want to keep that going. And reading all these posts in the FFHF!

Organised: yes, but in my own slightly disorganised way. :). Things never get really messy but I have my own organic way of organizing things.

Dianne Avatar

Mellan is stylin in those shades! So adorable.

Haul:

From the Sephora sale, I got the Lancome Teint Idole Longwear Foundation stick, but I’m not entirely sure I got the right shade, which is frustrating because I already swapped out the shade once! I started with 140, now I’m at 110, and I think I may need to go to 90. I thought it would be a great product to take on vacations this summer. I also picked up the Marc Jacobs Face II brush and the Basquiat Gold Griot palette, both of which I like a lot so far.

From the Ulta sale, I got the Tonymoly Water Bomb Sleeping Pack (the reviews made it sound like a great nighttime moisturizer for summer), the UD Vice lipstick/lipliner duo in Ex-Girlfriend/Naked 2, Anastasia Clear Brow Gel, and a 2-pack of the Clarisonic deep pore cleansing brush heads. After the sale ended, I purchased the Aquage Uplifting Foam and used a BOGO coupon for OPI polishes– I got the Infinite Shine topcoat and basecoat.

Weekend plans: Not much. Having a date night to see a comedy show tonight, and probably some cooking and meal prep for the week tomorrow.

Are you an organized person: When it comes to certain things, yes. I can leave laundry on my floor and overflowing out of my dresser for a week, but I keep desk drawers, my vanity, and my work desk organized almost all the time.

Maria Avatar

Hi Christine, I am surprised you just purchased Giorgio Armani Sunrise Bronzer because that came out a couple of months ago as an early spring release. As far as I know it isn’t even available and hasn’t been for at least a few weeks in the States & has been out of stock for even awhile even at Selfridges. Where did you purchase your Sunrise palette?

maria Avatar

Hi Christine, Actually there is one store that is taking pre orders for Armani Life is a Cruise Sunrise Bronzing Face Palette it is Barney’s New York. I was very surprised because it became available in the United States in February and it received good reviews. Before I could even think about purchasing it; it was sold out and is selling right now only overseas. So everyone could still purchase it as a pre order will ship in May for $88.00 at Barney’s New York. I just placed my order.

Haul: Sephora VIB sale — it turned out very different than I expected going in. I had a list, trashed al piece set. most all of it, and got a bunch of stuff that I had no preconception of or nor desire for before I logged into Sephora. Weird. Anyway, I got four Bite multisticks (Blondie, Nectar, Cerise, Mochi — Nectar was actually on my list); Drunk Elephant C-Firma Day Serum (from comments here); the KVD Lock-It Concealer Creme in L7 Warm, and her concealer brush (both on my list); and the Sephora Classic Multitasker Contour #55 brush, which I think is going to be a*ma*zing. The big surprise was that I got six — six! woot! — Clinique Chubby Stick colored lip balms solely for the reason that the packaging looks like Crayola crayons (!!! love !!!). I’m going to wear them while I’m drawing with my 96 piece big box. 😉 The colors I got were Melon, Wild Strawberry, Mauvelous, Razzmatazz, Brick Red, and Red Violet. The last two are labeled Chubby Stick Intense and have opaque color and a slight staining quality (which I like), the others are in the “hint of color” territory.

Weekend plans: Clean, straighten, organize (today). Gardening (tomorrow).

I *am* an organized person, but I have very little control over most of my environment right now (both at work and at home) so my instincts are somewhat frustrated. I try not to let it get to me, but it does. Fortunately I have plenty of ways to keep my mind occupied, so I don’t dwell on it … much.

Alecto Avatar

Ugh! My cursor accidentally skipped to the beginning of the paragraph when I was writing earlier, and I didn’t notice that I had left some stray words and letters in there before I corrected it. The second sentence should read “I had a list, trashed almost all of it, and got a bunch of stuff… ”

Proofreading is important! [sigh]

Haul : No makeup so far. Just some TOM’S and a few lightweight knits from Zara

Weekend plans : Early Childhood conference and trip to Mall of America

Organized: I’m not a neat freak and I can be a hoarder but I can part with stuff after I feel too over whelmed. I like things to be a certain way and everything has their spot. I like to create lists to help me stay on task and organized. But everything takes time and I need improvement

Awww Mellan!!!

This week, I went into a huge Sephora in Hollywood, returned my Bite Prismatic Gloss in Rose Pearl (after being impressed in the store, I was very underwhelmed both times I wore it…people couldn’t see the glitter, and there was no noticeable gold/green shift) and walked out with a hair oil for my husband (he has long hair). That’s it! I did try an Urban Decay Vice Lip Topcoat I liked (can’t remember the name, but it was an orangey pink….I liked the iridescent White Lies one, but my husband was weirded out by the blue/violet shift in it haha), but all in all, I bought no makeup this week. We’ll see how next week goes…

Colour Pop – always hard to resist so the recent new Blotted Lip launch got me! Received Brain Freeze, Ice Cube, Slide Ultra Blotted Lip. They offer such unique products. I never love any as much as their Matte Lippie Stix, but i still try almost all their lip products and some of their other, too. The Blotted Lips are fun. Go on feeling like they could not possibly work, but then they are light and do not transfer… Will have to play with them some more. Couldn’t find info, reviews here, but will check back. :)) Then I stocked up on my favorite, Contempo Matte Lippie Stix and Pencils for 20% off. So satisfying… <3

Was able to resist Sephora 15%… this time… 😉

Could not see pic of adorable doggie. :((

Erica Avatar

Sorry for the late response but I’ve been out of town the last few days…

Haul : No beauty hauls this week. Did buy a pair of TOMS and a few light knits from Zara

Weekend plans: well I just got back from a conference up north and trip to Mall of America

Am I organized: I am not a freak but I like things where I put them. My makeup is organized as such…lipsticks here, eyeshadows go there etc. My closet is organized as a sleeveless tops first, then short sleeve, then long etc. And I get upset if things are not put back as I had it. I get eye rolls from my daughter but I’m like this is my space and it’s the way I want it! I’m a bit of a hoarder but I do purge things when I get overwhelmed with stuff and mess. I like making lists and post its. I have some organizational skills but I’m not as organized as I’d like to be!
