Free for Haul Friday, Volume #356

Share any beauty goodies you may have picked up in the last week or so, or maybe what’s on your way or on your wish list for next week or month. 🙂

  • Haul: Guerlain Lingerie de Peau Foundation, Cle de Peau Radiant Liquid Rouges, Guerlain Eyeshadow Palettes, Farmhouse Fresh Fluffy Bunny/Sundae Best Mask/Coconut Beach Scrub, missing MAC x Star Trek products
  • Weekend plans: Mostly blogging, I think! Nothing else planned, at least 🙂
  • Do you have a planner?: I used to have an Erin Condren planner, and technically, it’s good through the end of this year, but I’, terrible at using it. The only one I kind of keep up with is a small, daily one that I use to write out what I photographed/what I’m wearing, but I drop the ball on that one, too and forget to write things down.

Christine, just had a chance to test out the EL Lip Tint today. Where it swatched as a baby doll soft pink, it did not wear that way. Basically, it just slightly deepened my lip color. It was comfortable to wear and wore pretty well through multiple cups of coffee – for roughly 3 hours or so. It felt hydrating on wear but wasn’t necessarily hydrating after it wore off; so no long term benefit. It wasn’t what I was looking for though. I was hoping it would be a genuine tint in oil (to bring my lips to a soft pink), not a MLBB with oil. So, where I’m scrapping it to my giveaway bag, I’m sure someone actually looking for this kind of product will be happy with the results.

Michele, let me know how you like EL Scarlet Eclipse shadow -it will look so stunning with Chanel Eros! Unfortunately, the Dior shadow kit in Capital of Lights is going to be returned. I’ve been wearing it for last 6 days, trying different primers, cream shadows, brushes, foam applicators, etc. and it’s a total bust. When I swatched on my hands (which are normal to dry) without any primer, the colors were soft, but all of them were buildable to medium pigmentation after a few swipes, except for the pink, which stayed semi-opaque. On my hands, they all swatched smooth, except the pink and purple was a touch dry. The purple and the grayish taupe had the most pigment. There are no mattes in here, all satin/metallic/frost, but the shimmer is refined and pretty. Unfortunately, on my oily lids, all of the shadows got patchy, dull, and faded within 3 hrs, even with my strongest eye primer, WNW Fergie. The worst one was the pink, which faded within minutes. The light beige matches my natural lid color, so even though I pack on 4 layers, it barely shows up. I even dug into the shadows to make sure the embossing wasn’t adversely affecting the pigmentation or wear. The embossing is beautiful but will go away after a few uses. The only way I can get the shadows to last 8 hrs is to pack on WNW primer AND a Laura Mercier Caviar stick, then 4 layers EACH of Dior shadows, but by then it’s like superglue on my lids, and I can’t blend any of the colors anymore, and all those layers start looking cakey on my lids. With that said, if your lids don’t eat up these shadows, you should do fine. I do have super oily lids, so I might be the one exception here. I did like the color combos that I got out of this kit, it’s definitely a very cool toned palette, good for fall/winter. Or if the colors do fade on your lids, and you don’t mind a softer shadow look, you might l like this kit. I certainly don’t expect UD type pigmentation from Dior, but I expect at least medium pigmentation on my lids from most of the shades, decent wear time, and blend-ability, but these are all sadly lacking for me. Fortunately, I got it from Macy’s and they have a good return policy. I will keep it over the weekend, just so I can check for dupes from my stash, will let you know what I find. I think they are dupe-able but I might have to pull multiple kits/shadows to recreate the same look. I will swatch Dior Mariposa at Neiman Marcus this afternoon and report back tonight or tomorrow.

Michele @Binxcat4ever Avatar

Yikes. I don’t think there’s any palette worth that kind of effort; especially given the options out there!

I had intended to wear the EL shadow with Eros tomorrow. Unfortunately when my order arrived from Neiman Marcus, for some reason, there was a different (and used) liner in the Eros box! (Yeah, pretty disgusting!) Anyway, I contacted them and they will be sending out a replacement. So, now I’m not sure I want to go with the EL tomorrow without the liner. Either way, I’ll let you know when I have a chance to try it. Meanwhile, I’ll go ahead and post my EL swatches now so you can see them (pic is with no primer). The cream shadow was very creamy and pigmented. I did a so-so job on the swatch of the pigment over the cream. I think it will look much nicer actually applied to the lid.

Katherine T. Avatar

OMG, I saw your swatches, that EL Edit Scarlet Eclipse is stunning!!! That’s how I wanted UD Gash to look, and it really reminds me of that red in the Chanel Candeur et Experience, which is the only color I wanted out of that quad. I think that EL shadow needs to come home to mama, would love to do a bold red & gold eye look for the holidays! And Macy’s is having an EL GWP too. Yikes, so gross about that used Eros, hope you get a new one soon! Ok, so my local Neiman Marcus just got Dior Mariposa in, I had to ask an SA for it, as it was still in a back cabinet. Unfortunately, they didn’t get the tester yet, so they wouldn’t let me swatch the kit, only look at it 🙁 And I have to admit, I got scared looking at it. In person, the 2 colors on the top of the palette look a LOT lighter than that promo pic, almost like they were washed out. I’ve seen some other Dior quads with such shades, and I think those 2 shades ( a very cool light pink and very cool light lilac) are going to be sheer, maybe look frosty white on the lids. The SA said the purples were more of a taupey purple, but I don’t know how she can tell without swatching, and she might just be saying that to try to sell the kit. Regardless, purples are hard to get right by any brand. And that middle shade had HUGE amounts of super sparkly chunky glitter, and without swatching, I couldn’t tell if it was just an overspray or the actual shadow, but it looks like something that would separate from the base and become fall out city. IDK, after my experience with Capital of Lights, I’m skittish. And BTW, I swatched 5 different Capital of Lights in 5 different stores to see if I got a dud palette, and I didn’t. If NM ever gets their tester in, I can go back to the store and swatch, but I don’t know when that might be. If you want to check it out, make sure you call your NM ahead of time to see if they have a tester before you drive all the way out there. Dior Mariposa is an NM exclusive, but NM’s return policy says they won’t accept used or opened cosmetics. Saks has a similar policy (items must be in saleable condition), but I have returned shadows at Saks twice, by showing up at the store and politely asking for my money back or exchange, and the SA’s have graciously accommodated me, but it’s dicey because they can rightfully say no. I haven’t had to do it at NM yet, so I don’t know how strict they. Hope this kind of helps

Michele @Binxcat4ever Avatar

Yes, very helpful! It sounds like Mariposa isn’t worth the chance vs. the cost! I think the EL Metallishadow is going to be absolutely gorgeous on. Funny, bc the reason i went for it is bc it was the shade combo I was looking for from the Chanel quad (only cheaper).
I am going to get the new Honest Beauty palette from Ulta as soon as I get my Ulta credit card and can get the 20% off of anything; not that $35 is too much for it but $28 is better. I like the mix of the burgundy red, purple, and gold in the palette. From my experience with the 2 Honest palettes I have, I am expecting the shadows to perform well. If you’re near an Ulta you may want to check it out as I think you will probably like the shades as well. of course I’ll swatch it after I’ve gotten it.

Katherine T. Avatar

OMG, I went to the Honest Beauty website, and they have a video with swatches of the shadows. The shadows look like leaves turning into autumn colors, beautiful color combos! I will go to my Ulta this weekend and check it out. And yes, I did see your Honest swatches and was pretty surprised at the pigment, not bad! Thanks for the suggestions!

Michele @Binxcat4ever Avatar

Thanks! Also thanks for the referral to Notoriously Morbid. I was finally able to get off the waiting list and subscribe to the Vanishing Cabinet on my birthday! I hoping the shipping is decent; esp. since the are located in my state. Since I like to change up my makeup, having the 4-5 new shades every month should give me some nice options.

Michele @Binxcat4ever Avatar

Yes, I think it does. I was more concerned about shipment time; especially in warm/hot weather if one of the products is a lippie. I’ve had a few lip products melt in shipment before because the package was in the shipping process so long. I also have a subscription I keep but am not thrilled with shipping time – they ship USPS but from CA. For some reason from the time they send me a shipping notification to the time I get my box is roughly 1 1/2 – 2 weeks. Fortunately it’s a style box so usually there’s only 1 cosmetic product to worry about. Anyway, thanks again – can’t wait to get my first box this month!

Haul: Just the MAC Star Trek powders – Highly Illogical and Strange New Worlds
Weekend plans: My good friends are going to be in town from Michigan so we are going to grill out on Saturday night and light the fire pit
Do you have a planner?: I was meticulous about my planner in college, but now in real life, I can’t even keep a calendar on the right month! I live and die by my Outlook calendar for work, I don’t even remember that half my meetings are coming up until that little reminder appears.

WARPAINTandUnicorns Avatar

Haul: In a swap, Kevyn Aucoin The Sculpting Powder in Medium (old packaging but more product), and Hourglass Ambient® Lighting Powder in Ethereal Light. As much as I like the colour of Diffused Light it had way too many random shimmer particles for my liking where Ethereal Light does not. 🙂

Weekend plans: chill…. would have loved to have gone to FanExpo though. But I’m glad to be able to spend the ticket price ($70 – $160) on IMATS this year (already got my ticket for $38). 😛

Do you have a planner?: No, simple because my life is not that complicated. lol Most of the stuff I need to swatch lives in a drawer that I have easy access to. And an online calendar to remind me of things with google. 😉

I miss haveing a sketchbook always on me though to just draw random things.

LindaP Avatar

Those eyes, Mellan! You’re killin’ me with sweetness.

After this week, I am taking a hiatus from hauling for a while (with one *caveat 🙂 ). I have more than I ever need, am very pleased with my current stash, and I need to give it a breather and explore what I have in deeper ways.

*Caveat is, that when the weather turns colder here in NE, I will go back to a liquid foundation (currently using Tarte’s BB Cream and Becca’s mineral powder, which has been great in the warmer weather). I do not have a liquid foundation I like, so I’ll be on the hunt. I have been using GA Luminous Silk, and it just falls flat for me. Tested KVD Lock-It and UD All Nighter — nope on both. Ordered samples from Koh Gen Do, so I’ll be testing that soon, among others.

This week:

Went a little wild with the UD Vice Lipsticks and picked up four:
Rock Steady
EZ
Wonderland
Whip — I use that for sheen, to tone down intensity if I want to, and add a little slip

Brushes:
MAC 239 — where have you been all my life?
KVD Shade & Light eye brush — I was back-and-forth about this one, but it’s just what I needed. I have brushes like it, but this outperforms them, fits my eyes perfectly, and cuts down the number of brushes I have to use for eyes to a total of three. Very happy with it.

Oldie but goodie reorder — The Balm, Mary-Lou Manizer. Can’t find the one I had, and if I’m going to use highlighter, this is my go-to.

Weekend — Helping our youngest son finish his move into his first apartment. And now it seems we have a few deliveries for his GF’s move too! Otherwise, the weather for the Labor Day weekend here in NE is cool and rainy. Booo.

Planner? Kinda, sorta. I use one for work to keep track of content calendars, posting dates, and project timelines — even that I get behind keeping up to date. For my personal life — various lists on phone or scraps of paper.

Mariella Avatar

Your first 239, Linda? Enjoy! It’s a great brush! And since you’ve reordered the Mary Lou Manizer, you KNOW your old one will turn up…that’s how it always happens with me. In fact, I bought Laura Mercier’s translucent loose powder, which I’d been wanting to try, when I couldn’t find my Shiseido loose setting powder. I figured that once I got something to replace it, the missing one would turn up and, sure enough it did – in a spot where I’d already looked! Go figure! I think the makeup sprites were playing a joke on me.

LindaP Avatar

The 239, right?! How clueless have I been? That what happens when you try and dupe and cheap out on everything. lol The brush really helps. With new KVD, I could whittle the brushes I need for eyes down to 3, maybe 4. The rest can go.

In our house, we have a ghost who does things like hide makeup. My kids named him “Lou” long ago. I fully expect that the highlighter will be hiding in plain sight, and I will blame Lou. 🙂

Michele @Binxcat4ever Avatar

Nice picks! I ahve that Kat Von D brush as well as her contour and highlight one and am happy with them both. They’re also great for travel. I didn’t like the Armani foundation either. For my buildable coverage foundation, I’ve found I’m happy with the Marc Jacobs Genius Gel (I tried his re(Marc)able but found it made my skin look chalky. The Genius Gel gives a nice perfecting radiant finish (if that’s what you’re looking for). If the Koh Gen Do doesn’t work out, perhaps you can sample the Genius Gel.

LindaP Avatar

Thanks so much, Michele! I absolutely will check out the Genius Gel. I want to check out Christine’s favorite by Tarte, but weirdly my local (large) Sephora doesn’t have Rainforest of the Sea foundation in the store. There are a few by Chanel I’ll sample too. I’m sure other suggestions here will send me down other foundation rabbit holes as well. 🙂

What I can’t believe about the KVD brush is how it makes short work of the application and blending. Didn’t think I would like it so much, and it has been a pleasant surprise.

Michele @Binxcat4ever Avatar

I don’t know why Rainforest is so elusive. I had wanted to try it when Christine recommended it too but none of the stores i tried had the shade I needed. I ended up trying a different Tarte foundation (bought from Tarte) and I didn’t care for it at all. Happily, I was lucky enough to get a bunch (7 large samples) of both Marc Jacobs foundations sent to me from Neiman Marcus so I was able to test them out and pick the correct shade. I have heard good things about the Chanel foundation. You’ll have to update us when you find your new HG! Good luck!

Mariella Avatar

Haul: Nip+Fab Glycolic Peel Pads; Clarins Daily Energizer Wake-up Booster (the old “toner like” product, not the new drops of a similar name that you add to your moisturizer); Shiseido Bloodstone lipstick and finally….DRUM ROLL – Sephora suddenly had, in their online sale section, 2 of their liners that had simply vanished from the stores and the website about a year ago…Snakeskin Dress and Rooftop Party. On sale half price so I got one of each (I’d have got more but worry about them drying out over time). I am so happy – Snakeskin Dress is one of my fave liners of all time.

Weekend plans: helping mother in law pack up for her move from her house to an seniors’ apartment; helping son pack up for his move back to school; having mother in law over for dinner on Saturday and to watch Cadfael.

Do you have a planner: I have a pocket calendar, which is pretty much all I need to keep track of upcoming jobs and also appointments. I’m such a Luddite!

kjh Avatar

One of my best scores last year…the last snakeskin dress in the sale bin. Love rooftop party. Isn’t that kind of like welcome to my loft? Also scored the last of that year’s xmas set, that had been lost in the bowels of Sephora…. Their liners are pretty great, and we should always check the sale/discontinued sections, instore and online. Is cadfael a remake, or Derek Jacobi? I am a total born again Luddite. I refuse to EVER get a cell and I drive only standard transmissions.

Mariella Avatar

Sadly, the Sephora near me (perhaps this is typical of many Canadian Sephora stores, though not all) doesn’t have a sale bin. I wish they did. I wish I’d known they were dumping the pencil called Snakeskin Dress (they still have the shadow and it is gorgeous) – I’d have stocked up last year, but at least I’ve got a spare now, and on sale too, so I can stop being so miserly with the one I’m using now. The Cadfael is the old, old one with Derek Jacobi – what a great actor. MIL has seen it before at our home but she loves it and at 91, she forgets much of it (as do I, to be honest) so watching it again is good entertainment for her.

Ginny Avatar

HAUL: Few things from theBalm flash sale. Meet Matte Nude, Meet Matte Trimony, and the Balm Beach Blush. Nothing I need, I have tons of matte eyeshadows and neutral blushes. Just couldn’t resist. theBalm has such visual appeal.

WEEKEND: Weekend trip with festivals and food!

PLANNER???: Ha, no. You should see my desk. I don’t even keep track of the vacation days I take.

Erin Avatar

Haul: I got the Ciate palettes that were on sale at Sephora finally. I also threw in some VIB/VIB Rouge gift from Hourglass. I picked up Fresh’s new color Poppy. I’ve only used it once but it’s super sheer.

Weekend Plans: Nothing yet, I have Monday off, so probably sleeping.

Do you have a planner: Nope, unless you count my brain.

kjh Avatar

Good, girl. I’ve been nagging you to get smouldering for a while. Bet it will look great on you. Do you put on makeup before you skype with your husband? I was sorry that they didn’t put the summer Ciates on sale. Fearless looks like another good one. It’s in stock only in town, not suburban S stores. But I like the formula, in general.

Tammy Avatar

Haul: My husband took a business trip to Chicago so I had him pick up an IKEA Alex 9 drawer for my ever-growing cosmetics collection. I should have done this sooner; it is a great value for the money and had lots of room for storage.

Weekend: I am trying to not have any plans. I am in serious need of rest and unstructured time.

Planner: I keep a daily to do list but it’s not in a planner. I use a full sheet of paper at work and on the weekends I either write it on the marker board or put it on a 3 x 5 card and pop it in my purse.

Blue Avatar

Haul: Bite Lavender Jam l/s, Laura Mercier loose translucent powder

Weekend plans: cleaning, helping my partner clothes shop, possible one off D&D game with friends

Do you have a planner?: No, but I should. I’ve been a real flake lately and loved ones are getting justifiably annoyed. It’s not that I mean to be a jerk-it’s that I want to say yes to everyone then overextend myself. A planner might help me see that I’m being unrealistic when I start to overbook plans.

Blue Avatar

Oh my gosh, I forgot that I actually managed to get one of the Pat McGrath Bloodwine lip sets!!!!!! It wasn’t a planned purchase. I happened to go on her Instagram 20 minutes after she posted an announcement that the site was back up from CRASHING due to traffic before it could sell out the day of the launch! So I figured it was dumb to pass up, in spite of actively deciding the day of the launch not to buy. You just don’t pass up that opportunity when it falls in your lap!

Blue Avatar

It hasn’t arrived yet, and will probably take some time because I didn’t pay extra for shipping. I’m really sorry that you weren’t able to get one. I bet you do when it goes live at Sephroa, it seemed like the Skin Fetish highlighters were more accessible at the Sephora launch.

Katherine T. Avatar

Mellan looks very thoughtful here!
*ColourPop –Ultra Metallic Lip in Flitter and Ultra Glossy Lip in Wolfie (stunning!!), Shadow in Get Lucky, Highlighter in Sticky Sweet Lip Pencil in LBB. My fave is Wolfie! I liked MAC Star Trek WNMHGB but thought it was kind of sheer, but CP Wolfie is like WNMHGB on steroids, has like 10x the pigment and shimmer, but you can apply lightly to get medium to sheer pigment. It’s a stunning rosy berry with gold shimmer. Colour Pop has a swatch posted on their website, and that’s how it looks like on my lips with 1 swipe
*Urban Decay – Vintage Shadow in Gash ( only swatched on hands, seems good quality, but very similar in color to the Gash in Vice Reloaded XX. In direct sunlight, the single has a slightly redder sheen, but in regular light, they look virtually the same. Unfortunately, I never had the original Gash, so I don’t know how it compares), Moondust shadow in Stellar (super sparkly gold), Grindhouse sharpener, and sample card with All Nighter Foundation in 1.0, 2.5, 5.0, and 8.0.
*Weekend -swatchfest today at local stores, house maintenance, friend’s birthday party, maybe a street fair
*Planner – I have an online calendar at work, but I’m old school. I have a month-to-month paper calendar at work to keep track of meetings, deadlines, reports, etc. and it works out really well.

Katherine T. Avatar

I only have 1 Ultra Glossy (Wolfie), but the formula is awesome! It’s opaque in 1 swipe, but light and comfortable to wear. It’s not thick or tacky, will last decently through light snacking, but not thru a meal, but re-applying is so easy. And even after it wore off, my lips still felt soft, and it left a light natural stain and golden sheen on my lips. Love!! I will definitely be back for more colors. There goes my no buy on gloss !

Jennifer Avatar

Haul: Anastasia brow powder duo in medium brown (really impressed by this product, 1st time trying Anastasia), NYX Dewy Finish setting spray (surprisingly prob the best setting spray I’ve tried so far), and a NYX brow brush to use with the Anastasia brow powder
Weekend Plans: not much, just cleaning probably
Do you have a planner? Yes, I use a Lilly Pulitzer one this year and last year I used a Kate Spade one. It’s helpful for me to write things down otherwise I tend to forget important dates. I love having the cute designs too and keeping track of my daily activities.

Katherine T. Avatar

Also a big fan of the NYX Dewy Finish setting spray! The other brands make me look too matte, but this one adds a nice dewy glow, and it’s dirt cheap

Tracey E. Avatar

Haul: Charlotte Tilbury Dolce Vita palette, Iconic Nude lip pencil, and Air Brush Flawless Finish Powder; YSL Vinyl Lip Cream in Burgundy Vibes (409)

Weekend Plans: Enjoying the outdoors and a big cleanup in the house (filing, purging closets, etc.)

Planner: I do not use a planner but do use monthly paper calendar at home for personal/family commitments (a month at a glance), and an electronic calendar for detailed activities.

Happy weekend, everyone!

Lulle Avatar

Haul: Lancome L’Absolu Rouge Definition in Le Sepia, the Neiman Marcus exclusive YSL eyeshadow palette with the snake print on the compact (I have no idea if the shadow combination is LE or not, since YSL often sells their permanent palettes in LE packaging!), and my first Clarisonic! I was opposed to the idea of the Clarisonic for the longest time, but since I started being really good about using SPF every day, and also started wearing foundation every day, I got blackheads that just won’t go away whatever I do. After over a year of trying everything (including daily BHA treatments) I’m giving the Clarisonic a try. Hopefully I won’t get broken capillaries from it…. Macy’s had a Mia2 set on sale for $99 so I bought it, it comes with a sensitive brush. If anyone with redness prone skin has recommendations in terms of brush head please let me know!

Weekend plans: going to LA this weekend!

Planner: I bought one last year and only used it every once in a while, so I didn’t buy another when I finished it in June. I use my online calendar, and sometimes Evernote to keep track of tasks.

Lea Avatar

I love my Clarisonic and hopefully you’ll love yours. I use the deep pore brush head with the blue bristle circle but I don’t have redness prone skin. I’ve heard the most raves from users and MUAs one the cashmere brush head as being amazing on sensitive skin, so that’s what I would recommend if you’re concerned about irritation.

kjh Avatar

Used clarisonic for years…the harsher brushes. My skin….in general, not now…is not sensitive in the classic sense, but it is highly reactive to ingredients. Now that I tried and accustomed myself to a konjac sponge, I seldom use the clarisonic. Thought the konjac was skeevy at first, but now I find it soothing. Try to use the C with a stronger cleanser at least once a week. It is a great pore product.

Kimberly Avatar

Haul: Lots of Korean skincare stuff mostly! Innisfree Green Tea Starter Set which included a full-size Seed Serum, the Green Tea Eye Cream and Moisturiser. Innisfree BHA and Hyaluronic Skin Clinic Masks. COSRX AHA Whitehead Power Liquid, COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence. Etude House nail polish #382, an olive green with pink iridescent shift. I was also fortunate enough to receive the Modern Renaissance palette, Pansy Cheek Pop and Heather Cheek Pop from my aunt.

Weekend plans: Tons! I fly off to the UK on Tuesday for 5 months, and I’m meeting several groups of friends over the weekend and Monday. I’ll also be busy packing and getting last minute things like medication.

Do you have a planner?: I used to write stuff down in a Star Wars moleskine notebook weekly but I’ve gotten lazy and just use the calendar app on my phone now.

Alice Avatar

Haul: MAC Star Trek order #2 – Skin of Evil nail polish and KHAAANNNN! lipglass. I’m also going to head over to the post office today to buy a couple sheets of the Star Trek stamps, I’m going to make frames and frame a sheet each for me, my brother & sister-in-law, and my parents.

Weekend plans: Try and get some yard work done, but it’s STILL supposed to be in the 80s, so we might be stuck doing only indoor work. I want to scrub the kitchen cupboards and deep clean all the closets in the house. Getting a house ready to sell is a ridiculous amount of work.

Do you have a planner? No, I have a desk calendar though.

Michele @Binxcat4ever Avatar

Please let me know what you think of Skin of Evil after you’ve tried it. I wore Enterprise this week and after 8 days there wasn’t a chip or tip wear at all! It was one of the best wearing polishes I’ve used.
Too funny with the stamps. I pre-ordered them from USPS (3 sheets) and they’re being delivered today. I already have my frame for the one sheet. Great minds 🙂

Nancy T Avatar

Mellan’s is *always* cuteness overload! Such an expressive face! ?

Haul: So yesterday I hit the ground running… to MAC. Got 4 Star Trek items. To Boldly Go Pressed Pigment, Where No Man Has Gone Before lipstick, Pleasure Planet Lipglass and Luna Luster powder (yes, it really does make noise! LoL). The 1st two were on my wishlist, the 2nd two just plain floored me when I tried them on! Pleasure Planet looks AMAZING over WNMHGB lipstick! I may yet go back for Khaaannn!!!, we’ll see. At Sephora, I bought UD Zodiac Moondust (pigment) as I just didn’t get the warm fuzzies over MAC Bird Of Prey the way I thought I would? @ Ulta, Maybelline Lash Sensational WP Mascara, Retinol Anti-Wrinkle Facial Serum and a HUGE bottle of my OGX Keratin Oil Conditioner. I looked *almost* everywhere at SFS for Nars Apoline, except Nordies, where of course it was. Glad I didn’t find it though. Late last night, I had a sneaking suspicion Apoline looked like MAC Mehr, did the “compare any two swatches”, VERY close dupe!!! But that’s okay because I had earlier swatched Chanel Rouge Vie, love at first sight and FEEL!!!

Weekend plans: Food and cat food shopping. Hair, maybe nails (?), and meeting on Sunday. After meeting, Ulta for UD Brick house and/or Vice lipgloss.

Do you have a planner? Not really. I just use the calendar feature on my phone. It sends me “reminders” of upcoming appointments or events that I’ve entered. Pretty convenient!

Lea Avatar

Haul: Chantecaille Save the Lions palette and Pride cheek color; haven’t used it on the eyes yet, but the colors are gorgeous. MUFE Artist Palette Vol. 4, MUFE Black Plum shadow and the rollerball Elizabeth and James Bourbon purfume.

Weekend Plans: a few returns to Sephora, but otherwise quiet and relaxing weekend planned.

Do I have a Planner: My phone and home/work computers. I used to use a planner, but moved everything electronic years ago.

Katherine T. Avatar

Lea, can you let me know how you like the Chantecaille Lions Pride cheek color? I swatched it in store today, and it was really hard, dry and sheer, nothing like the pretty swatch I saw online. But I’m wondering if the tester got ruined, it did look kind of beat up. Thanks!

Oh no Katherine. It sounds like that palette has been manhandled too much. I just grabbed mine and a brush to search again while I type. Mind swatches beautifully. I’m guessing you didn’t still have the overspray on the one you tried, but the grey is more taupe once you get through the spray and that needed slight building that I don’t typically need with Chantecaille, but it didn’t take much to get there. The end color is worthwhile enough for me to have to do two layers for the color. I didn’t have any kick back off of the shades, so it’s not dry or powdery. I think it’s worth trying yourself if you’re okay building the Rock color.

Lea Avatar

The Pride blush is a beautiful soft pink that applied smoothly and easily with my Bobbi Brien blush brush. I didn’t need to touch the pan much to get a nice payoff on the color. I’m picky on blush since it doesn’t take much on my skin tone and I don’t go through it as fast as others probably do. This was a great addition to my minimal blush collection. Chantecaille has always been my go to for blushes, cream and powder.

On a separate note, I tried the Dr Brandt magnet mask last night. Interesting experience with the magnet pulling the mask off, but it’s messy as all get out. Even with a tissue around the magnet it gets everywhere and took too long to remove and I only did my t-zone. I won’t buy the full size of this. I personally hated the mess it made and I didn’t like the idea of rubbing in whatever was left on my skin. I did with no bad reactions, but I still wonder what I was rubbing in. Definitely not for me and I think I’ll be sticking with my Chantecaille mud mask. You don’t need a ton and it leaves you hydrated and not dried out.

My phone went crazy so please don’t care about the first comment. Sorry for disappearing but let’s see my answers:

Haul: nothing, I’m saving for MAC stuff (Taraji and Selena).

Weekend plans: my aunt’s wedding, I hope to get some fun and eat a lot.

Do you have a planner? On Wednesday a teacher gave me a little notebook which I’m planning to use as a planner/French glossary.

monica Avatar

Haul: Some Japonesque eye brushes for $5 each at TJ Maxx yesterday

Weekend plans: Nothing planned besides moving in my other sister into college

Do you have a planner?: I’ve kind of started to bullet journal a little

Veronica Avatar

Haul: I decided to wipe out my wish list and do one last major haul for the year. Between EBay and other stores, I did some damage. Urban Decay Electric Palette, Burberry Rosewood, Burberry Gold Radiance No. 2 Fresh Glow, Cle de Peau Extra Silky lipstick in 108, Guerlain Ecrin 6-color in Champs-Elysses and Place Vendome, Guerlain Rouge G in Garconne, Estée Lauder Five-color Eyeshadow palette in 40-Batik Sun, NARS Sex Appeal blush, NARS Vengeful highlighting duo from the Steven Klein collection, NARS Dogon eyeshadow duo, Kevyn Aucoin eyeshadow duo in #206, Kevyn Aucoin cream cheek and lip in Mystere, and Colourpop Ultra Satin Lip in Botanical and Super Shock Cheek color in Fruit Stand.

Weekend: MCATs in T-7 days.

Do you have a planner: They’re only useful if you don’t lose the planner itself.

Veronica Avatar

I admit that I like the Electric palette more than I expected because I’m definitely a neutral-eye kind of girl. Burberry Rosewood is also unexpectedly gorgeous considering how hard it is for me to wear warmer nudes. It’s my first lipstick from the Lip Cover collection, and I can see why people love the formula.

Haul:
• Too Cool for School Dinoplatz Fresh Gore and Pumpkin sleeping masks which are so cool!
• Jane Iredale gold dust.
• Urban Decay Vice XX Reloaded palette which is just beautiful and retro! I’ve never had a Vice palette before and it makes me so happy to finally have one with retro shades!

Plans for weekend: Nothing planned at the moment, we’ll take our 2 year old daughter out somewhere probably.

Do you have a planner? I use my phone’s planner, it sends me a reminder which is a must! I pair it with my Pebble watch and it stops me mixing up my dates or times of appointments! I do love a paper organiser but it’s no good for someone with pernicious anaemia ?!

Haul: Deborah Lippmann nail color in Dark Side of the Moon (deep purple crème).

Planner: I just use a “wall” calendar with squares, so I have the month at a glance, with the calendar photo portion folded back to be invisible. Then I put my month-at-a-glance at the front of my desktop vertical file for quick reference as needed. This only works because I almost never have more than 1-2 scheduled activities to do on any given day, and other activities don’t follow a schedule that would need to be written down.

Anne Avatar

Haul: Too much of the MAC Star Trek collection…

Weekend plans: Not much. Possibly a Gene Wilder movie marathon.

Do you have a planner?: I never really did except middle/high school. Nowadays I do everything online.

Anne Avatar

Definitely one of the Trip The Light Fantastic powders, as those to me are the standouts, both in terms of what they are as a product, and the cool swirled look, as well as being a good collector piece. I got all three (yeah I am ridiculous) but if I had to pick one, probably Luna Luster as I’m quite pale, so I’m using that one as a highlight and the other two as blush/bronzers. Strange New Worlds would be a close second though. Basically if I was going to advise someone else, I’d have them check out all three and pick which they liked best for their skintone and what kind of use they wanted to get out of it.

Haul: OPI nail polishes in their new Washington DC Collection, and new clarisonic brush heads.
Plans: Vacation by the water.
Planner: Yes! I use a Daytimer 5.5″ x 8.5″ loose leaf, and I cannot live without it! It has all my notes, calendar, lists, reminders, medical info and financials. I take it to travel and think of it as a portable desk. Switching covers keeps boredom away. Someday, I may move to a Filofax, but that would be a major decision, and change of habit!
Happy weekend everyone!

Haul: Mac Star Trek eye shadow in Bird of Prey, lipstick Wrath of Khan and Boldly Go and Strong New World powder. New Buxom eye shadows. Cover FX Acne controlling primer for my daughter. Bumble and Bumble Curl definer also for my daughter.
Weekend Plans: Attend the Sanders County Fair in Plains, Montana. We go every summer to have the Philly Cheese Steak sandwiches!!
I don’t have a planner. I am retired and no longer feel the need to plan or keep track of my very few “plans”.

Haul: Honest Beauty eyeshadow trio in Heather Mauve and luminizing powder in Midnight Reflection. I love the eyeshadow trio but think I may return the luminizing powder. It has a noticeable powdery texture on my skin as soon as I put it on. The only problem is, I don’t know if it’s the product or the humidity. Right now some of my powders just aren’t working for me (ones that I already know perform well when it isn’t so humid). I also did get the sensitive skin Aloe kit from Ulta, but I had to return it because when I opened it one pot was 1/3 full and one was almost empty. Thanks, Ulta!

Weekend plans: Moving. My lease is coming up in mid October and I ended up deciding that I want to move out of the state I’m living in now. I don’t know exactly where though. So my mom offered to let me stay with her until I figure out where I want to move to. I’ve already taken two trips to her place-today was makeup, toiletries and clothes. I’m so thrilled that my makeup is already here. I think most people don’t understand the stress of moving powders.

Do you have a planner?: No, not at all. I’m so bad at keeping up with a planner. I do keep a list of “things to do” on my phone, but I go back and forth on actually using it.

Nicole Avatar

Lol! This is the second summer I’ve lived in such a humid state (last year wasn’t so bad, and I wore less makeup), and for some reason I assumed that powder in general would be a great option-that it would stay in place better and look more natural. I don’t know if it does for other people, but it does not work for me. Powder foundations can look OK for a while, but powder over liquid foundation/tinted moisturizer looks like I have 5 layers caked on or starts to separate pretty much immediately. I’ve tried half a dozen different powders over at least as many foundations and haven’t found a combo that works. I’ve pretty much given up setting my face with powder for the time being.

Thank you! It really is! It’s taking a huge weight off my shoulders.

Nicole Avatar

Thank you, Katherine T.! I know, it’s so weird. I suspect that they sent me a kit that someone else tried and returned? Or one that was sitting around for a long time and leaked-there was a good bit of oil around the tubs that had missing product. I think I’ll try to get it again, but maybe from the actual Body Shop company. They don’t have exactly the same products with the same names, but they do have an aloe line for sensitive skin, so it’s probably the same thing.

Very cute Mellon photo.
Haul: just some basic skincare items and my bareMinerals Soft and Smoky eye palette has arrived. I am saving it for my birthday, so I just had a sneak peak at it and I think it is glorious.
Weekend plans: My husband and I are travelling up to northern NSW to visit some relatives. It is a long car trip, but they live right on the ocean north of Newcastle and the scenery around there is spectacular. The weather is a perfect 20 deg C. too. We are coming home via the coast road, taking our time, visiting all the little villages. So I am madly packing, washing and ironing. My husband is trying to get his sat nav working….
Planners: When I was working full time in education, I lived and breathed them. But now I don’t. I often think you “overplan” things or become too ambitious about what you can do in a week.

Genevieve Avatar

Thanks Rachel and we will have a great trip once my husband decides what clothes he is taking……
I am really looking forward to getting into that Soft and Smoky. The colours are divine.

L de P: good! I think it may even be better on you than ROTS. I got the mufe hd sample from s in the only cool shade. Too light for summer tan, but would be good in winter. I think the watery formula would be better, so I’ll check it out this winter. S haul/sale 3 tarte pencils that match stash blushes …very OG. Chic Sephora favorites. Good selection. House brand sleeping masks. Nail art kit for an xmas present. Thanks so much for the beauty.com link. Love saving 72USD. Ordered Caldwell Massey #6 talc and cologne. Geo Wash’s reputed scent, don’tcha know? Jack Black Thickening shampoo. It superhero masc and romantic palette…been waffling on that one for years, kind of like the tf romantic palette on steroids. Muted and not high pigment, is what I expect. Nars: the list depended on swatches via editor’s highest rating and reviews, for sure. Liberte blush…less coral than Gina, and (mildly more muted than exhibit a.) Now I can shove those 2 off the back burner. Porto Venere, the pink eye paint. A First. ‘Course, I’ve only done paint pots in the past 2 years. Behind the curve. Jardin Perdu duo. Strada single. Rue Bonaparte liner. It’ll all get some use ….later. I think I have fifth disease. Massive flaming cheeks and polyarthritis. It’s part of the parvovirus family. Since at first I thought it was an allergic reaction…arthritic pain is nothing new…only using bare bones concealer and tm. This hurts and burns, mostly eyes and cheeks. Exhaustion, sleep disturbance, and malaise. You really can’t treat it, so i’m not going to the doc, unless it is reportable. Wait it out. Oooh, got out the Ulta flyer. On to the next haul. Plans: stayed out of the sun last weekend, as I knew something was impending. Maybe I’ll trot down for dip only, but big beach will be wall to wall. And all outside temperatures feel extreme on my skin, even my legs. May or may not do night job. Alternate between feeling cold and massively feverish, but there’s no temp. Wtf should I get a childhood rash disease a few weeks before my 50 th reunion? Actually, the only reason I think it’s that, and not lupus, is that coworkers, well over 50 have had it. Recently. Face Looks like somebody slapped me hard! Planner: occ use the calendar on the iPad, and dictate notes into it. But depend on dollar tree school planners. 2 years ago, when I was keeping separate ones for 3 day job sites, my car got robbed. So devastated, and had to recreate all of it. Now I have a calendar that I jot future on, and a date book that I write completed in. Only one for all three, plus back ups, in case of loss. I used to use a nice Marley Hodgson Ghurka one, but they don’t make it or the refill pages anymore. Opposite ends of the written planner spectrum. Happy Labor Day, all.

Oh Mellan! So sweet! I love his accessories. 🙂

Haul: Just the Bobbi Brown Luxe Lip Color in Bond. I drove out to the nearest Nordstrom as soon as I could after your swatch post to grab it!

Weekend plans: Boyfriend’s out of town so I’m going to do some shopping, some cleaning, and meet up with girlfriends.

Planner?: I have used the Day Designer (found mine at Target) for two years now and I really enjoy them. I live and breathe by my planner and have four calendars I keep synced at all times.

Haul: OPI nail polishes in We the Females, Suzi the First Lady of Nails, and Squeaker of the House; China Glaze Purple Fiction and Don’t Mesh With Me.

Weekend plans: Take swatch photos of all my new nail polishes. I want to get these up as soon as I can, since they’re a part of the new collections.

Do you have a planner?: No, I’m a free spirit that way. 😛

Haul: Makeup — I got my first installment of the new Medusa’s Makeup subscription service. Lovely stuff! I dropped Ipsy for it. Other: A Lisa Frank unicorn T-shirt, hair dye, developer, several packs of Curlformers spiral curlers and the tool for pulling your hair through them, and a Duran Duran Paper Gods tour book. I helped a facebook friend move, and she gave me tons of unused stuff from beauty subscription boxes, plus tons of designer purses and wallets, and a pair of Coach sunglasses. Lots of nice stuff that will take me forever to sort through. It’s like Christmas!

Weekend plans: Recover from the past week. We helped said friend pack and move on Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday was our 25th Wedding Anniversary, plus we prepped for our trip to Seattle. Thursday we drove to Seattle and saw Chic and Duran Duran, then Friday I visited another friend who is a collector, archivist, and historian of all things Duran Duran. I went to have him sign his book, and ended up staying for hours and looking through his archive material that I didn’t see last visit. Met new fans; reunited with ones I already knew. It was his birthday, so we went to dinner. We didn’t get home till nearly 2:30 a.m. I’m wrecked! lol

Do you have a planner? No. I keep track of appointments and contacts on my smart phone. That’s it. I haven’t kept a planner since the 90s.

Trish Avatar

Haul: SCORE! I was able to access Pat McGrath Lab website & order the Lust 004 Everything collection before it sold out.
On Friday they arrived via Fed Ex- and I love it, my daughter loves it, my nephew loves it- it’s one of my most adored makeup products of all time I think!

Weekend Plans: The dreaded fall/winter wardrobe purge. I’m committed to a plan of “buy one/donate one” article of clothing in an attempt to curb my hoarding tendencies. I’m quite fond of our local Dress for Success program and I find I’m more willing to part with some of my favorite items when I know that they will not be sold for profit or to fund an organizations executive payroll.

Do I use a planner? Not anymore- Post it Notes and a few well chosen apps have completely changed how I manage my time- for the better too!

Trish Avatar

Calendars 5 by Readdle is my planner- can synch w/Google and my IOS calendar in my phone & iPad- their scanner pro is not bad, but skip the printer. They have a free one you can try which is what I did since I already had scanner pro.
And Sticky by Twerk ( I think) is fast, easy and free! It’s cute but super simple. I do new season makeup looks from screenshots- list the products I might want, then screenshot the note & put it in a photo folder. I just did one with your purple/lavender eye look from UD. Then when I’m sitting bored waiting on a meeting or appointment I can scan thru my photos and jog my memory to buy what it is I wanted.
Hope this helps! I often try new apps but will put them on my older phone to check them out first. As long as you use your wifi, you can continue to download & try out new apps- you don’t need a cellular connection.
