Free for Haul Friday, Volume #351
Share any beauty goodies you may have picked up in the last week or so, or maybe what’s on your way or on your wish list for next week or month. 🙂
- Haul: Tom Ford Ravish Blush, Dior fall quints and highlighter, Clarins Lip Balm, Supergoop Lip Screen, Clarins Eye Quartet, Shiseido Rouge Lipsticks (x6), Make Up For Ever Artist Palette Vol. 4, Cle de Peau Almond Highlighter, Cle de Peau Eyeshadow Quads (x2), Cle de Peau Cleanser
- Weekend plans: Maybe get up really early and check out the Desert Botanical Gardens (I have been twice now), but I think we’ll play it by ear — if we happen to get up that early!
- What was the last thing you cooked?: We’ve been trying Plated, and one of the recipes a few weeks ago was fresh spaghetti with burrata (here’s their recipe), which we really liked, so we recreated that one ourselves again.
Share your pet photos to the Temptalia Pets flickr group! 🙂
Haul: A new elf brush, to use for bronzing, and the Mac goodluck trolls beauty powder in Glow Rida. I just ordered it this morning. Had to contemplate for awhile, but Mac got me.
Weekend Plans: Nadda, probably just clean and read Bridget Jones Diary, Mad about the Boy, found it in a discount bin when I was grocery shopping. lol.
Last thing I cooked. Spaghetti and garlic bread, that was Tuesday, been eating it all week for lunch. Made a lot. lol.
I love the name Glow Rida 😉
Haul: Bobbi Brown smudge proof mascara (this is seriously the best mascara I have ever used!) I’m recently trying Bobbi Brown products for the first time and am so impressed with the high quality of the products. I’ve owned one shimmer brick for years now and that thing is still going strong although I’ve dropped it a few times so I have hope I’ll finish using it up in my lifetime lol
Weekend Plans: working actually lol (it’s a once a year event)
Last thing I cooked? I don’t cook much but last weekend I made a broccoli spinach pizza that my family loves to eat
What do you like most about the new Bobbi Brown mascara you’re using, Jennifer?
This formula just works with my lashes! It makes them look full and thick…doesn’t flake or smudge throughout the day even through sweat and tears
Haul: Too Faced Born This Way Natually Radiant Concealer in Very Fair (might return this one) & Kat Von D Lock-It Concealer Crème in Light 3 and Light 11 minis.
Weekend plans: Working on my capstone project properly (due next Friday). The job searching eats up my last two weeks but at least I’ve got a work placement with the city for credit in August.
What was the last thing you cooked?: Saag Panner with fried mushrooms and avocado to add a cream texture to it instead of cream. It actually works really well and I fold it in mashed up raw after everything is cooked down.
Speaking of dogs. (Mellen *_*)
These Corgi crosses are perfection for medium size dog lovers like me. *_*
http://9gag.com/gag/ae6rYGO?ref=fsidebar (ad heavy site though)
Corgis are so cute!
Omg are those corgi mixes cute. My mum told me I could’t have a corgi (or border collie) bec one ought not get a dog that is smarter than you. Hope that site has a bunch of crosses, bec. I’m back there 100 fold, if so. I Forget what I said about the queen, but mum said, they have a retinue….
How do you like the new KVD concealer? Are those light enough for you?
Almost, soo close! Light 3 does have the right undertone for me, warm yellow and not peach, and with my summer tan (still too pale for most brands though) I can get away with it but I’ll be getting her white one in the fall for sure and a full size of L3. I think L1 is pink based so that’s a no go for me even if it’s lighter.
I’m really like the formula as well!
Nothing is as light as NARS Chantilly though. ? That’s like 2 shades lighter than my skin but I have to use soo little of it as well to get the effect I want (concealer residual redness and brightening)
Awww, I want to kiss his nose! Wow, what a great haul, looking forward to swatches and reviews
*Free Haul – LORAC Refined Romance palette (Nordstrom sale exclusive) -I’ve only swatched on my hands, but totally worth the $18. All the shades were decent to good. I’m keeping it at my desk for touch ups or travel
*Weekend – did some business travel this week, so need to rest and relax, do some laundry and clean up
*Last Thing Cooked- Spaghetti – I make a very easy and healthy one, with lots of fresh veggies (zucchini, mushrooms, red bell peppers), whole wheat noodles, extra lean ground meat, and a canned sauce that has no sugar added. My family loves it, and we can eat it for days, as it gets tastier, like a stew
Those LORAC palettes are so hit and miss! Happy to hear this one is decent 🙂
Curious to hear how the LORAC palette ends up working for you. I had the palettes in my cart and restrained myself. Kind of regretting since if they’re good, they’d make great travel/back-up palettes.
I’ve only swatched the Lorac palette on my hands, but can test on my eyes/face tomorrow and report back, but the swatches look promising
Michelle, I tested out the Lorac Refined Romance palette, and it’s totally worth the $18. The shadows are a nice mix of warm, cool, neutral, mattes, satins and metallic. The 2 lightest shades were on the sheer/dry side but buildable with primer, the cooler taupes and neutrals were good, and the metallic copper gold and matte warm brown were the best. The 2 highlighters were fine -they’re on subtle side but visible, and cool toned, I think you will like the colors, esp. the light pink one. The blush looks darker in the pan, but it is a muted dusty mauve rose color, not too cool or warm, will flatter many skintones. The packaging is really gorgeous -the cover is a sophisticated black with a riot of colorful flowers (reminds me of Nest fragrance bottles), and the palette is super-slim and lightweight but sturdy enough, with large mirror, perfect for on-the-go. I do use eyeshadow primer and face primer, and the makeup wore well -I put it on at 10 am today, still going well at 5 pm right now. I had to touch up the blush, but that’s not unusual at all, as my cheeks eat almost all blushes alive. But this palette is a great find, so glad I got it!
Katherine, thank you so much! After really having had an issue with a LORAC palette before, I was pretty nervous about getting another one (the one I had was a holiday palette and the packaging was awful, the pan were coming unglued, and the shadows were so-so). I’ll have to pick this one up before the sale is off!
I know what you mean! Some of those smaller Lorac palettes have been awful. I bought one and had to return it –the blushes were ok, but the shadows faded and turned muddy on me, no matter what I did. At $18, I was totally skeptical of the quality for this one, and refused to buy it until I saw at least 1 positive review from a trusted blogger. Since then, I’ve seen 2 more positive reviews, but if it doesn’t work out for you, at least Nordstrom has a great return policy.
Haul: I fell in love with Arden’s limited
Edition spring lipstick in Violetini back in February, I was trying to resist, and finally caved. Such a perfect Violet-magenta shade for me. Since I was in the buying mood I also picked up another Arden limited edition spring lipstick in Magenta Bubbly (more of a pink shade). While I was at the store I decided to try Lancome’s cushion foundation and I love it! I moonlight in the cosmetics department and have worked for LANCOME for 6 years. I rarely try or buy any of their products anymore; not because their not good, but there are so many brands killing it that I usually spend my money elsewhere. Since I was getting a new foundation, I decided to grab an Absolue Radiant Smoothing powder. I bought Ecru medium because none of my current powders are dark enough for my self tanner. This is such a nice face powder! I plan to pick up Ecru Light for winter and golden for highlight.
Lastly I saw a video on YouTube using Maybellines Color Tattoo eyeshadow in Edgy Emerald so I decided to give it a try. It’s not the highest quality cream shadow; however, the look was fabulous and I will be doing it again before the summer is gone.
Weekend: Not sure yet.
The last thing I cooked was spaghetti on Wednesday night. Such a simple meal, but so good. I use fresh garlic and herbs in the sauce and buy Parmesan in the brick (grate it myself) for the topping. Cheese and fresh herbs make all the difference!
Was it National Spaghetti day recently? I think you are the third or fourth person who cooked spaghetti last!! That is pretty cool 😀
What fresh herbs do you put in yours? We get parmesan in 2lb blocks from Dean & Deluca, and it adds SO much flavor!
I put fresh basil and oregano. The garlic really makes a difference too!
Oh hello there Mellan! 😉
Haul:
Birchbox (15% Off): Oribe – Magnificent Volume Shampoo and Conditioner, Volumista Mist for Volume, Shampoo and Conditioner for Beautiful Color, Superfine Hairspray (Arrives today)
Jouer (40% Off): Hydrating Lipstick (Whitney), Crème Eyeshadow Crayon (Renaissance) (Arrives next week)
MAC (Obsessed Early Access): Trolls – Eyeshadow (Paradisco and Black Tied), Beauty Powder (Play it Proper), Lipstick (Dance Off Pants Off), Lipglass (Glitter Grunge). I’ve already swatched and posted 2 items. Probably going to create a look tomorrow using all of the products.
Tarte (30% Off): maracuja C-brighter eye treatment, timeless smoothing primer, empowered hybrid gel foundation (light neutral). (Arrives today)
Weekend plans: I have a hair appointment in the morning. I may go to a Grand Opening of a sort of close Ulta on Sunday to see if I can get one of the “first 100” gift cards. My daughter’s messaging me saying “we should do something” this weekend so not sure what else may happen!
What was the last thing you cooked?: Dinner last night – roasted chicken and broccoli and cauliflower.
Glad you were able to take advantage of the 40% off sale at Jouer!
Have you used the timeless primer before? I ordered this too but haven’t used it before.
Tammy, no I haven’t. I was impressed with the description and the reviews so I thought I’d give it a try. I’m using it today so will hop back and let you know. I will say that when it was delivered, all of the product had melted to one side of the jar but it still looked ok. It also looks like there isn’t a lot of product in the jar but I guess it depends on how much you actually need to use each time.
Ok so I used the primer this morning. It is a bit tricky to work with. I found I needed to pick up a little bit and warm it between my fingers so it spread evenly. I doubt you could really just pick up a bit and get it evenly distributed without warming it a bit first. Once warmed, a little did go a long way. They recommend about the size of a pearl and I used probably slightly less. The finish was a smooth matte. I’m fairly light toned and I found the primer made my complexion look significantly lighter. For that reason, I doubt I could ever use it as a stand alone as Tarte suggests is possible. The primer did make some fine lines around my eyes look slightly less noticeable. It did nothing for the very fine line on my forehead. Over it, I used the Tarte gel foundation I had bought (same time). The gel is a full coverage and is supposed to have skin smoothing properties. I found that over the primer, it gave a lightweight full coverage with a satin-like finish. The fact that the primer was matte probably had no effect on the foundation. The primer is said to have brightening effects but I did not notice any (other than the change in my skin color on application). At the time of this reply, I have had my makeup on for 12 hours. I do spray on the UD setting spray though. The weather here today was awful…started out in the low 90s with high humidity. Then I got caught in not 1 but 2 torrential downpours. The foundation/primer has not budged. It looks just as fresh and smooth as when I applied it. So for me, my final thought on the primer is that I will probably continue to buy/use it for when I am going for a full coverage foundation and want a really smooth final appearance. When I want a light or radiant foundation finish, I think I would reach for a different primer that does more to enhance the “inner glow”.
Haul: There was a rather large and popular sci fi/fantasy convention in my city last weekend, and I braved the costumed crowds to snatch up a bunch of things from the MAC x Star Trek collection:
Luna Luster and Strange New Worlds beauty powders
To Boldly Go, The Naked Truth, and Bird of Prey eyeshadows
Where No Man Has Gone Before lipstick (kind of got caught up in the moment, so I’m not sure I will be keeping this one)
Hourglass Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Stick in Porcelain
Urban Bush Babes Edition Nail Polish in EverDream and Seeing Double
Clinique eyeliner in Black Honey
Dior Fix It 2-In-1 Prime & Colour Correct in yellow
Amazing Cosmetics Concealer and Corrector duo
Marc Jacobs Air Blush in Lines and Last Night
Several pairs of jeans and leggings from Target and New York & Company!
Weekend plans: Not sure! I do need to clean up a bit around here.
What was the last thing you cooked?: Not too much cooking, but I did make balsamic glaze and brown sugar strawberries over Trader Joe’s shortcake biscuits. Really good!
Strawberries and shortcake are a great pairing!
Pteetsa, I’ve been eyeing that Star Trek lipstick, Where No Man Has Gone Before –curious why didn’t you like it?
Oh, it’s super pretty. I may keep it yet. I just spent more money than I anticipated (oops!) and I don’t wear lipstick too often, so I’m not sure if it’s a worthwhile investment for me!
Awww…..well, glad to hear there wasn’t anything wrong with the lippie. I’m hoping to get my hands on it!
What is it about the MAC Where No Man Has Gone Before lipstick that makes you unsure? It looks so pretty in the pics I’ve seen so far!
Oh, it’s super pretty. I may keep it yet. I just spent more money than I anticipated (oops!) and I don’t wear lipstick too often, so I’m not sure if it’s a worthwhile investment for me!
Lucky you! I have been dying to go to a sci fi convention for years! Plus you got all that great MAC! Other than the one lippie, how are you liking what you got?
I didn’t actually get to go to the convention 🙁 . Tickets are expensive and hard to get! But my husband and I like to go downtown during the Con and people-watch. One of these days we will go!
Everything is really pretty. Some things are a bit glittery (the eyeshadows mostly), but pretty cool. Plus, most things are getting Christine’s good rating. I am a die hard Trekkie from way back, so I had to get some things! 🙂
How are you liking the Hourglass foundation stick? I got one (in Shell) and have been really pleased with it so far.
So far it’s nice! The color match seems to be pretty good. It’s been really hot here, so I’m not using it (or any makeup) as much, but I expect I’ll be using it a lot more when it cools down a bit. Because I have pretty oily skin, I think it’s too heavy to put all over my face. I just kind of use it more like concealer.
Haul: MUFE large crease brush (my life is changed), Nars concealer, Bite Lush lip tint in Watermelon (cute sheer summery color, fine for work).
Weekend plans: Today is my birthday so I am not doing anything I don’t want to. Unfortunately, I am having some health problems, so I am going to the doctor this afternoon and then probably taking it easy. I think I’m going out to brunch tomorrow with my mom and sister, though.
What was the last thing you cooked?: My version of saag aloo paneer. It’s a work in progress, lol. I think it tastes pretty good even it’s not exactly the most authentic Indian food of all time.
Why was the new brush so life-changing for you? 😀
Happy birthday! Feel better soon!
I LOVE Indian food (it’s my favorite cuisine and also my choice for comfort food), but every time I’ve tried to cook it, terrible!
I just love the sheer and even coverage the brush gives me. It’s great for blending but I’ve also been using it for just all over application and it gives me a level of coverage I really like. I’d been wanting the MAC 217 brush and now I think I’m good! (Although the MUFE brush was even more expensive than the MAC brush, way to go self.)
I love Indian food too, I’m a vegetarian and I love how many different and tasty options there are in Indian cuisine.
That’s what I love about Indian food – it’s kind like a punch in the tastebuds… in the best way, lol!
Happy birthday weekend! Hope you feel better with each day!
Yeah, I noticed the 2 Indian spinaches, too. My recipe has 17, not a misprint, spices and yoghurt, but no paneer. You can use frozen, not as good, but freezing it afterwards works well. Good thing, to make huge amounts, given the recipe intricacies and living alone.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Hope you feel better soon!
Thank you!
Me too. 🙁
Happy birthday!
Haul: lots of new MAC stuff from the new collections!
Weekend plans: Relax! It’s been a busy couple days so we’re just going to chill, maybe go into the city, have a movie/gaming marathon, make ourselves some drinks,…
What was the last thing you cooked?: Last night’s fries and chicken nuggets don’t count (because let’s be fair, that’s not cooking) but on Wednesday I made Chinese stir-fry.
Enjoy a relaxing weekend!
OMG I have Tom Ford Ravish in my online cart – I have a Saks offer that expires Sunday so I need to decide whether I am taking the plunge or not. I am going to be checking the page like crazy waiting on that post 🙂
Haul: Urban Decay Spectrum – I finally gave in, couldn’t pass on the sale price. It’s gorgeous to look at and the quality is as good as ever, but man, do I hate whoever designed that packaging. I bet it’s the same person responsible for the terrible Naked On The Run palette, lol!
Weekend plans: As long as the weather cooperates, dog park on Saturday morning. There is a really nice one in our town that’s on a forest preserve, with trails to walk. I also need to relocate my basil plants before we get our new patio next week or they are getting ripped out, which would be sad.
What was the last thing you cooked?: I love to cook! We went out last night, but the night before we cooked lamb chops, roasted brussels sprouts and Brazilian cheese bread (although the cheese bread was frozen from Costco 😉 )
I have a review going up soon, but I don’t think it’s before Sunday! It is good, though 🙂 Swatches and photos are in the gallery already!
What is Brazilian cheese bread – or how do you make yours, Julia?
Heading over to check those swatches, you rock! I’m calling this a birthday splurge since mine is coming up in a few weeks, ha!
I don’t think I would never attempt to make the cheese bread from scratch, as I’m not much of a bread baker (it takes so long/ is very labor intensive!) It’s served to the table in most Brazilian steakhouses, and they are little bread rolls about the size of golf balls filled with cheese. SO GOOD. Costco just started carrying a frozen bag – you pop them directly in the oven from the freezer and they come out perfect!
Ahh, gotcha! I will have to check them out 🙂
Sorry to keep on about the Tom Ford Blush, but I was planning on getting Love Lust and Ravish- I did a side-by-side and they look more similar that I would have thought swatched. Maybe it’s just my monitor. Are those two very different in person/ applied? Enough to warrant purchasing both?
Love Lost is warmer and has a stronger coral/peach base, and it’s more shimmery – Ravish is more of plum, whereas Love Lust is a coral.
•Haul: I see someone hit up the 10% off saks sale! I bought some UGG slippers for maternity leave (still 5 months away).
•Weekend plans: The flooring is being replaced in by bedroom (changing from carpet to tile). That means our bedroom furniture is being relocated to the living room this weekend for about 4-5 days.
•What was the last thing you cooked?: Ha! I don’t cook. So the last thing I made myself was a chocolate peanut butter banana protein shake.
I surely did!
What UGG slippers did you get? I find they are some of my favorites (in general) because of the thick sole.
I got the Ansley Moccasin Slippers in Gray. This is my first pair of UGG’s.
Nice!!
Ooh, the botanical garden sounds like fun! And I love burrata! I need to try this. Thanks for linking the recipe!
Haul: Nothing yet but Ulta doesn’t like me very much…they just emailed me 3 days deals I’m not sure I can resist lol
Weekend plans: A sunflower festival this Sunday. Crossing my fingers that it doesn’t rain
What was the last thing you cooked?: Nothing interesting lately
No problem! Let me know if you try it 🙂
Haul: Nothing. I’ve been trying to shop my stash.
Weekend plans: I finally got my license on Monday, so I’m going to look at a new-to-me car today and possibly take it for a few days to test it out. I’m guessing lots of driving.
What was the last thing you cooked?: A ravioli bake. Its basically exactly what it sounds like-ravioli in a casserole dish with marinara sauce and lots of cheese, baked until golden on top.
Congrats on getting your license, Nicole! Enjoy your drive 😀
Thank you so much Christine! I’m ecstatic!
Yay! Hope you find the perfect car! (And the weather’s good for driving!)
Thank you so much Michele! I’m really looking forward to finding the right car! (Fingers crossed for the weather. It seems like all we’ve been getting lately is scalding sun or ridiculous downpour.)
I make baked ravioli–so easy and delicious!
It is! It’s definitely a favorite.
Congrats, Nicole. How exciting to have your driver’s license! Best of luck car shopping!
Thank you so much Tracey E.! =D
Haul: Our offer was accepted on a house, so no makeup hauls for a very long time!
Weekend: Putter around in the garden, harvest some veggies, maybe catch a movie on Sunday, as it’s supposed to be rainy.
Last thing I cooked: grilled pizza, it’s a summer staple. My favorite recipe/instructions are from Lydia. The easiest thing to make on a hot summer night!
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!! How exciting!!
What fabulous news! Wishing you many years of happiness in your new home!
Thank you!
Congratulations!!!! I’m so happy for you. I hope you have many happy memories in your new home!
I have such a soft spot for home buying stories because my own was so up and down and miraculous.
YAY!
Thanks! We are actually buying the house we’ve rented for the last couple of years. We are so happy not to have to move again!
Very happy for you getting your house, Sarah!!! Congrats!!!
Thanks!
You have a house! Congratulations!
Thank you! 🙂
Well done Sarah – it is so hard these days to save up for a house. I hope you and your partner/husband will be very happy in there.
Tell me about it! No pretties for me for a while, but it’s all worth it!
Wow, you’re a homeowner! That’s big news! Congrats!!
Awesome news about the house! Congratulations!
Haul: Some Wet n Wild brushes, Nyx Color Mascara in Purple, and Olay makeup remover wipes.
Weekend plans: Nothing special.
What was the last thing you cooked? Pork roast and baked potatoes.
Hope you have a lovely weekend, Rachel! 🙂
I love a good pork roast, especially with the crackling.
Haul: the Dior quint I got should be arriving today, I received my YSL Vinyl Lip Cream early this week, and I ordered the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea foundation at Tarte’s 30% off sale, and that should arrive tomorrow! At first what I believe is my shade (Light Neutral) was out of stock, but they restocked on the last day of the sale, so I grabbed it and ran, lol! I also got the Naughty Nudes matte lip color in Rave to reach the free shipping limit. I’m just a tiny bit concerned about the foundation shade, because I got a sample a few weeks back and it started fine but tended to oxidize and become darker/more orange. I think that’s because the formula got exposed to air too much in the sample jar, so I hope it doesn’t happen with the full-size product.
Weekend plans: house party at friends tomorrow, and baseball game on Sunday!
Last thing I cooked: our go to easy week night meal: lentils and sausages. Basically you throw everything in boiling water and wait, lol! Lately we’ve been grilling the sausages though.
I love this photo of Mellan, so cute!
Fingers crossed Light Neutral suits you, Lulle! I am so in love with Tarte’s foundation these days.
Haul: from the Illamasqua sale on Hautelook I got Disciple lipstick, Mould cream pigment, and Android loose pigment. Should be arriving any day now! I’m so excited I’ve been wanting Disciple forever but for YEARS they wouldn’t ship it to the US.
Weekend plans: Depends on if it keeps thunder storming or not – I want to get some yard work done. We’re taking all the rocks out of our front landscaping, ripping out the plastic, and putting down mulch. I also have to dig out our dead rose bushes and cut down the lilies that the roofers accidentally crushed 🙁 🙁 🙁 .
Last thing you cooked – porcupine meatballs with brown gravy, mashed potatoes, Parmesan and olive rolls. (porcupine meatballs are ground beef meatballs with rice in them)
Disciple is a fun shade 😀 Can’t wait for you to get your Illamasqua order!
Haul: Anastasia Gleam, Sweets and Moonchild Glow Kits (I’m amazing at how fast I became obsessed with these, Gleam is probably my favorite tho, the powders just look so smooth on my skin), several Colourpop Ultra Glossy Lips and Ultra Metallic lips, and several Wet N Wild brushes are coming in the mail… I spent way too much on cosmetics the past few weeks. Oh well, so pretty!
Weekend Plans: Finish painting the dang living room. I can’t wait to be done.
Last thing I cooked: Hubby and I are trying a subscription to Hello Fresh. Our first meal from there (and also last meal we cooked) was the seared steak and creamy chipotle pan sauce with poblano, corn and crispy potato hash. Super yummy!
Moonchild is SO cool, and Sweets is great with it.
Good luck painting, Celesta!
Have you tried any other of the subscription services? I’ve done Blue Apron and Plated but not Hello Fresh!
Haul: I lost my mind for the Fall Chanel collection. I ended up with the quad, the blush, the reddish eyeliner, the jelly finish polish and the shimmer cream shadow. Oh yeah, and the nude lippy. So, so pretty. I hadn’t bought anything Chanel in about a year except the sunkiss ribbons blush (love) but this one was made for green eyes so I couldn’t resist. Hope you’ll review some pieces, Christine!
Weekend Plans: Relaxation. Knitting. Little bit of housework.
Last Thing I Cooked: It’s been all about the BBQ this summer so it was marinated chicken breasts on the grill with oven roasted carrots. Yummy! I always feel the urge to keep it simple in the summertime.
The Chanel fall look is very bold! How do you like the polish?
I haven’t worn the polish yet but the SA was wearing it. You’d think from the way it looks that it it looks in the bottle that it would be transparent but it’s actually pretty opaque. Definitely an orange leaning red. It’ll be a bold fingernail color for me but I think I will love it in the fall.
I think you’re like the 5th person I’ve seen go nuts over the Chanel Fall collection! No one seems to be able to limit themselves to 1 piece. I’m afraid to go anywhere near a Chanel counter to swatch for fear I will fall in love with everything. I’ve been eyeing Eros, the red eyeliner. Is it a burgundy red or more purple red?
Lock up your credit cards, Katherine! It’s definitely a warm red — not purple, more burgundy with a slight sheen to it — not matte. I think it’s amazing and unique.
Haul: Nars Pygar and Stud; Sephora Primer Oil, L’Oreal LZR eye cream (it has a long name that I can’t remember and it’s still in the bag waiting to be unpacked!)
Weekend plans: we leave early tomorrow for 5 days in NYC
Last thing I cooked: Grilled chicken in a Portuguese marinade, oven roasted little potatoes, steamed broccoli with a home made cheese sauce (I love to cook sometimes but having done it for so long, I also get really tired of cooking). I absolutely LOVE burrata but since the really good cheese store near us closed down, it’s hard to find so I settle for bocconcini instead…it’s a poor substitute but the best I can do.
So glad you picked up Pygar and Stud, Mariella! They are both so nice.
Have a fantastic time in NYC 🙂
Haul: A vintage sugar bowl with lid to hold my baking soda (I use it as a deodorant), Jack Black products for a friend, and some perfume samples.
Weekend plans: Try to get my computer fixed! Blogging is super hard without it.
What was the last thing you cooked?: A chicken macaroni pasta salad. I sliced two chicken breasts in half, seasoned them on both sides with Old Bay and garlic seasoning, cooked them in olive oil and cubed them. I threw 5 ounces of chopped fresh spinach into the same pot and cooked it until wilted. I placed the cubed chicken back in and allowed it to cook further. Then I added one pint of sliced grape tomatoes and 8 ounces of boiled macaroni. After tossing this together I mixed ½ cup of sour cream, ¼ cup of mayo, black pepper and onion seasoning in a small bowl and poured that into the pot for the dressing. I ate it cold after the first serving because it’s really good as a summer meal. It doesn’t need to be reheated.
Poor computer! Hope you can get it back up and running sooner rather than later!!
Haul: nothing this week!
Weekend plans: my grandfather had a stroke so I’ve been in NC/SC since last Friday. I’m flying back home tomorrow for a couple days then driving back down with my husband. It’s been a crazy week! Would love prayers❤️
What was the last thing you cooked?: Korean bbq? made my own marinade and everything! Basically thin sliced beef and pork in a sweet, savory, spicy marinade and cooked on a skillet.
I’m so sorry to hear about your grandfather, Joyce! I hope he is doing better now – you and your family are in our thoughts!
Sorry to hear about your grandfather 🙁 I hope he recovers and you get some rest
Keeping your grandfather in my thoughts and prayers, for strength and better health with each passing day.
Haul:
Nars Ondine eye shadow, oldie but goodie.
Took Nancy’s rec and got an Essence black gel liner — not bringing it on vacation so trying it will have to wait (darn). But they sent a free black gel pencil which is going with me. Super black and super nice when I tried it this morning.
Two Sigma shadow brushes — E54 and E57. I honestly did need a couple of eye brushes.
Weekend: PARIS! We were supposed to be leaving for the airport in an hour, but they just delayed the flight two hours. Cabin crew strike is messing everything up. Wish us luck getting there!
Cooking — I love(d) to cook. After raising four sons, not so much. In fact, I avoid it at all costs now. Marinated a flank steak and grilled it the other day to put on top of salad. That’s the extent of it for me these days. 🙂
Have a lovely time in Paris, Linda! Hope you were able to get there 🙂
Haul: Ordered MAC Trolls Lipglass in Bubble Butt and Grunge. They looked so pretty on you and I don’t have many sparkly lip glosses . Mac Sized to go Lipglass in Candy Yum -Yum. To go with my Candy Yum-Yum Lipstick.
Weekend Plans: Chill and watch Netflix. Dinner at a restaurant . Also reading some good books!
What was the last thing you cooked?: I cook just about every weekday . Grilled Salmon, Macaroni and cheese, squash and zucchini .
I hope you like the sparkling glosses, Denise! 😀
What have you been watching on Netflix?
Haul: Nothing yet, but my Pixi Mud Cleanser just showed up!
Weekend Plans: Starting it off with a bang and getting a CT scan! PARTY! Other than that IDK yet.
Last thing you cooked: Steak with an heirloom tomato salad with smoked salt and burrata!
Yay for your new cleanser 😀
LoL!!! I just died, Mellan’s nose got super-sized in his “selfie”! ?
Haul: UD Moondust Palette, Benefit Roller Lash Mascara travel size, e.l.f. Eyeshadow Primer (which seems to have been reformulated, and now itches), UD Anti-Aging Primer Potion Eyeshadow primer mini to try out, had to return my gorgeous purpleness, UD Pandemonium, because I had a very nasty allergic reaction to it, so I exchanged it for Jawbreaker, which I will try out today in order to see how it does after wearing it all day. Hopefully, there will be no issues.
Weekend plans: Do my hair, go to my meeting on Sunday, and keep trying to save my beloved cat, Pookie. Pookie is an FIV+ cat who has been in a good, solid remission for 3 years, 4 months. But now she’s very sick again and went off her food and water last weekend, so I had to begin giving her mirtazapine again for appetite and to aleve the symptoms of obvious FIV induced encephalitis, which has symptoms similar to rabies. Very, very sad and upsetting to know that she will likely pass in the near future!
Last thing I cooked: A seasoned chicken breast, rice, and broccoli. Boring-ville! Last FUN thing I cooked was homemade pork fried rice, even Chinese BBQ’d the pork first! ?
LOL! He has a pretty big nose.
Fingers crossed that you’re able to give Pookie some comfort, at the very least! Fingers and paws crossed for you and Pookie!
Thanks, Christine, I hope I can. She certainly has given me a ton of comfort and unconditional love during the almost 12 years I’ve had her. Poor baby was already approx. 7-8 months old when we rescued Pookie, she was semi-feral and malnourished. But we had no clue that at some point she had been infected with FIV. I hope I’ll be strong enough to do the right thing for her when it gets to be time.
I know you’ll be able to make the right (difficult) decision if it comes to that! Will still keep our paws and fingers and toes crossed over here for both of you!
Thank you so much everyone for the outpouring of love towards my sweet little Pookie! She has been through so much. And now the dreaded FIV encephalitis. By some miracle, I hope she pulls through. Stats are very grim, though.
I know we Fur-Moms are not supposed to have “favorites”, but Pookie is mine. Her pics are on Temptalia’s Pets.
Still hoping for you both! Sending lots of love your way! xoxo
EDIT: Bought UD Vice lipstick in Amulet and Nyx Nude Truffle lip liner late Friday. Walked over to Target to grab something fast for dinner, plus a couple clearance t-shirts, got on line to pay…and KABOOM! Thunder directly overhead! What is it about Tempe Marketplace and violent t-storms??? Got home soaking wet, found out Benefit Roller Lash ain’t waterproof, and stings like hot pepper juice as it melts into ones eyes! Crazy!
Nancy, so sorry to hear how sick your cat is 🙁 I hope she gets better
That’s sad news. Sending prayers and good energy to you and Pookie! We sure love our furry friends and he’s in loving hands.
Haul – I have some Sephora items that should be there by the time I get home. I did buy the new Sunday Riley UFO oil last weekend and have been enjoying it so far. Too soon to say what kind of difference it’s making yet. I will be getting the coordinating Martian Mattifying Primer today, along with Burberry eye shadow in Mulberry (still hunting for a dupe of a discontinued CdP shadow single that I love), Anastasia shadows in Not Today and Chocolate Crumble (hopefully either Not Today or Mulberry will be the right match), Marc Jacobs fineliner in Blacquerberry – I like to tightline with plums; makes the green in my eyes stand out more. I’m going to go take a look at the CdP lip lacquers in person tomorrow and see if there are any other shades I like or if I wait for the new Armani ones to come out in September.
Weekend plans – Hoping to see Star Trek with hubby this weekend if he can stay awake after golfing all day the whole weekend!
Last thing I cooked – It’s been a few days, but Korean Ramyan. Sooo good.
Keep us posted on how the UFO Oil works for you, Lea!

Tortellini but I would not call it cooking because I did not make them myself
Nice haul, Kylie! Have you had a chance to try the Trolls hair spray yet?
Haul: small but I like it. MAC Dusky Pose Palette x9
Plans: I have get some jewelry made for upcoming shows and to refresh the display in the gallery where I show. Lots of pearls and tassels
Last thing I cooked: chicken with spicy orange honey glaze.
Oh, you make jewelry? That is so cool!
I ordered UD Moondust palette from SEPHORA plus some other stuff and freebies including my birthday gift. Im hoping the will come tomorrow. I received my first Sephora Play box this past week which included a sample of La Mer face cream. Very nice but way out of my price range. Also recd a color correcting palette by either Tarte or Too Faced. I like it very much for redness around my nose and chin and darkness under my eyes. Its easy to use a light hand with this one. Several other little things that slip my mind.
Weekend plans: dentist today. No problems. Other than that, just relax, usual dinner place.
Cook? Me? Not ever.
La Mer is pricey! My mom covets the samples like they are gold, LOL!
Almost wish I never knew. It’s that nice! Your mother is wise. I will probably not share…. unless a great need.
Happy birthday Susan!
Thank you! ?
I have to pick up some skincare essentials this weekend. I may try a new toner, I need to stock up on makeup wipes, and I need a new moisturizer. I really want to try Sunday Riley UFO oil, but I don’t know if I can justify the price right now.
A friend of my boyfriend is having a pool party, but I’m nervous about it. I don’t do well in groups of people I don’t know, especially in a swimsuit. Eek!
My boyfriend does the cooking, but the last thing I *attempted* to make was crockpot chicken spaghetti. It was…well, I didn’t give us food poisoning, so there’s that.
What was the toner you used before, Lacey?
Hope you’re able to enjoy the pool party 😀
I’ve used Murad Clarifying toner for a couple of years straight, but lately my skin seems to be going through a problematic phase. I’m trying to gradually work in different products to figure out where the issue is! It’s tempting to do a huge skincare overhaul, but I know that’s not the way to go.
Tom Ford “moisturecore” lipsticks in Mustique and Carriacu, my first Tom Ford makeup.
The texture really hooked me on these.
Fragrance samples of YSL Mon Paris (review on fragrantica.com)
The Moisturecore lipsticks have a nice finish! Are they living up to the hype?
The TF moisturecore lipsticks are softer in color than they appeared when I swatched them at Sephora, but still wonderful in texture. Just as TF fragrances have a unique “vibe”, these lippies also have a unique vibe among lipsticks. I will be trying them with my Nars lip pencils in Isola Bella and Lodhi to give better definition and hopefully make the colors “pop”.
Gotcha! Thank you for the clarity 🙂
Haul: Tom Ford Honeymoon palette, Marc Jacobs lipstick in Magenta, Dior fall quint eye shadow palette (can’t remember the name and not home), and Charlotte Tilbury lipstick Hel’s Bells from the Hot lips line.
Weekend plans involve continuing down the California coast with Sacramento as the destination so my ex-husband can have his surgery on Monday.
I last cooked pork chops in a sour cream sauce with mashed potatoes and broccoli.
Honeymoon! What a gorgeous palette you picked up there.
Best wishes to your ex-husband on his upcoming surgery, Deborah!
Haul:
Nordstrom anniversary sale: a Laura Mercier lip set — lip pencil in Naked plus Lip Parfait Creamy Color Balm in Rapsberry Ripple; Supergoop Forever Young hand cream set SPF 40 and sunscreen mist set SPF 50 (my son prefers the spray); plus a long black trench coat, a leather wallet and tote bag, and I stocked up on bras and compression tights.
Sephora: the new Hourglass stick foundation, in Shell, and the brush they made to go with it — love — it seems expensive per ounce, but a tiny bit gives medium to full coverage with a lovely finish, and it goes on like a dream over mineral-based sunscreen, while leaving very little product behind on the brush; the Urban Decay Moondust palette (really looking forward to trying); NARS Hardwired eyeshadows in Pygar (wearing today, love) and Parallax (I already have and love Stud); Deborah Lippman gel lab nail color in Great Balls of Fire, a strawberry red (love), and Mermaid’s dream, a glittery bright green, both for summer toenails in sandals; repurchase of Living Proof Fresh Cut split end mender, which actually works fairly well.
Weekend plans: nothing special — just relaxing! Reading a book featuring dragons in the British forces during the Napoleonic wars, a great escape (In His Majesty’s Service: Three Novels of Temeraire, by Naomi Novik).
The last thing I cooked: a one-dish skillet meal with spicy black beans and fresh corn kernels cut off the cob, served with locally made tortilla chips and salsa, yum 🙂
I love the Lip Parfaits 😀 Hope you are digging Raspberry Ripple as well!
How do you like the hand cream from Supergoop? Does it dry down quickly?
The Raspberry Ripple is a lovely MLBB shade on me, and so moisturizing and comfortable!
So far the Forever Young hand cream from Supergoop is my favorite hand cream with significant SPF. It doesn’t dry down all that fast, but a bit faster than the deborah lippman Rich Girl hand cream, which is the same price per ounce in non-sale packaging, and, once it does dry down, there’s no annoying tackiness or shininess to deal with. I like it a lot better than Paula’s Choice Resist Ultimate Anti-Aging Hand Cream, which stays quite greasy on my hands (but does have the advantage of having some mineral as well as chemical sunscreens in it, so that some of its ingredients start to work right away). When I’m in a hurry to get out the door, which is most of the time, I’ll top the Supergoop cream with Colorescience Sunforgettable loose mineral sunscreen so that I have some sun protection on my hands during the 15-20 minutes that it takes for the chemical sunscreens in the cream to bond with skin and start working. That also takes care of greasiness/tackiness while it dries down. I keep a tube of the Colorescience powder and a stick of MD SolarSciences Mineral Sunscreen Stick in my bag when I go out so I can renew sun protection throughout the day, especially after washing my hands. All-mineral sunscreen creams that I can tolerate on my hands are First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Pure Mineral Sunscreen Moisturizer and MD SolarSciences Mineral Moisture Defense SPF 50 (in the blue tube), but they are not as comfortable as the Supergoop cream, the sunscreen stick, or the mineral powder for me. They’re great for arms and decollete, though, just a bit too noticeable on my hands. Some people like the Drunk Elephant Umbra sheer physical defense SPF 30, but to me it seems greasy, gritty, and smelly. I’ve got a whole tube of it that I’m reserving for use on my legs at the beach or the pool, because I really don’t like it much.
It seems like good-quality (comfortable-to-wear) sunscreens are crazy expensive, but I’m a bit of a sunscreen nut, since I’ve already had one melanoma, and since my face, fingers, and toes turn bright pink with just a few minutes of sun exposure, and my facial skin won’t tolerate many of the chemical sunscreens because of my rosacea.
Thank you SO much, Fran! This is very helpful for someone like me who can’t retain much knowledge about skincare and the like 😉
I picked up the Supergoop hand cream!
Aw, thanks, Christine! I’ll never understand how you keep track of all the dupes of products that you do. I hope the hand cream works out well for you 🙂
Swatch Gallery 🙂 It’s usually where I start. When anything is really close, then I can go compare in person, but when it’s obvious they aren’t like 90%+ then I don’t need to physically compare in person (as long as the photos are reasonably close, of course! something shot in 2011 vs. now I’d have to check).
I bet Mellan is always ready for a close up! It must be difficult to be that handsome all the time! 😉
Haul: Two more empty, twelve-pan palettes; Maybelline 24hr Tattoo in Inked In Pink; MAC Fun & Flirty Look In A Box (for the packaging on the lipstick!); the BeautyBlender/solid cleanser set; and some body butter.
Weekend plans: My husband’s birthday is Saturday so we actually have plans this weekend!! WOO!! 😀 He wants to grab something to eat and then see a movie. I’m hoping I feel up to it. I’ve been in bed most of this week. Severe, chronic anemia is no fun! 🙁
What was the last thing you cooked?: Beef Stroganoff, yesterday, in the slow cooker.
Oh, I know, what a life it is to be Mellan, LOL!
What are you going to put in your empty palettes, Cat?
Happy birthday to your hubby 😀 Hope you feel well enough to going out!
I have a few singles from MAC, Lancome, etc, that I want to get into a palette so I can free up some space. I also want to mix in a few of the BH shadows as they will fit in the palettes, too.
We made it out for dinner but came home after that. Good thing, because both of my daughters showed up on Sunday! My youngest daughter and her husband stayed until Tuesday so I was able to spend some time with my granddaughter! 😀
Hope you feel better soon, Cat!
I haven’t purchased any cosmetic products, neither makeup nor skincare, in the past couple of months. I’ve reached the point where I’m able to resist temptation and that feels so good. I am however compiling a small list of products, mainly skincare, that I will need to replenish but I’m holding off on buying anything until this year’s Black Friday sales.
Nice job, Susan! It’s so great to only buy what you need, not just what you’re tempted by!
I think he is smelling something good cooking!
Haul: nothing this week as I am using up all that I have (which is a lot!)
Weekend plans: We have a rare sunny day with no rain so I am going to take Olivia to a great park so she can stretch her legs. It’s really hard on little ones when it is freezing and raining all the time, they get a bit of cabin fever I think.
Last thing I cooked: I made a big pot of my vegetable minestrone soup – some to take to my girlfriend, whose uncle had just passed away and some for my family. A day later and it is all gone. It was really yummy.
So glad you’re going to get some sun this weekend, Genevieve!
How funny – we finally got some rain this weekend, LOL! (Well, on Friday.)
We sure did, right? It poured cats and dogs, and bunnies, hamsters, and goldfish, too, last night!
Haul: KVD Lolita (3rd batch ELL), UD naked skin foundation in 3.0, MAC Full of Joy. I’m really happy with all these purchases so far! I found out that my old Lolita that I sold away was actually from the 2nd batch, which was why it looked so unflattering on me. The new one is a lot pinker and lighter. UD Naked Skin is a new HG foundation – so light and skin-like, and plays so well with my skin even when dry! It could use some oil-control but I think I’ll remedy that some way else.
Weekend plans: I’m shopping with my aunts later today and then catching Jason Bourne after. I really like the Bourne series, saving the one with Jeremy Renner, so I hope it turns out well.
What was the last thing you cooked?: Pasta with spicy olive oil, cherry tomatoes, bacon and mushrooms. I love how oily it is.
Full of Joy has such a great finish!
Congrats on finding your HG foundation, Kimberly!
Haul: Charlotte Tilbury Instant Look in a Palette Seductive Beauty arrived! Can’t wait to try it!
Weekend Plans: Spending Saturday afternoon in Chicago. We’ll do some artsy things but I’m also going to a Tom Ford counter to try out their blushes in person. Otherwise, plan to enjoy every single moment of low humidity. It’s been a sweaty week!
Dinner: I’m more of a meal planner and ingredients procurer, than one who ‘cooks’. ? I recently made a Cold Noodles Shredded Chicken and peanut sesame sauce dish from America’s Test Kitchen. It’s one of our go-to recipes to beat the heat. America’s Test Kitchen recipes always work out because what’s been published has been tested. (Oh, if this leaks, I’ll deny ever having made it. Heh, heh.)
Happy weekend to all!
Yay! Can’t wait for you to play with your new Charlotte Tilbury palette, Tracey.
My Mom is a big fan of America’s Test Kitchen! I used to watch the show with her from time to time!
Haul: I caved and bought the ABH Modern Renaissance palette. I’m blaming Antique Bronze– that color just speaks to me.
Weekend plans: Had a girls’ night out on Friday to celebrate my best friend’s birthday, and the celebration continues tomorrow when we do an escape room (anyone else done one of those?) and go to the casino. Sunday kicks off my second-to-last trip of the summer.
Last thing I cooked: Beef albondigas with yellow squash, from a Blue Apron shipment. I don’t subscribe to that service, but my parents do, and I just happened to be housesitting for them this week. 🙂
Hope you end up l oving the ABH palette, Dianne!
Haul:
MAC:
C’est Chic palette
Look in a Box(s): Sassy Siren (the burgundy one), Sunblessed (the peachy one) – I just love these this time around. MOAR mascara is always a plus for me and I love that I got a full size eyeshadow and eyeliner also. All things I will use so yay! I passed on the others because the pink wasn’t my color and the other two I was going to get but both are matte lipsticks and they don’t play nice with my already dry, textured lips.
Prep + Prime 24 Hour Extend Eye Primer
Chanel Le Rouge Illusion d’ Ombre quad
BH Cosmetics 28 Foil palette
Morphe brushes
Scentbird and Allure beauty boxes came in (I finally picked up June and July shipments from work)
Weekend Plans: Today: cleaning and laundry, Saturday: brunch and errands and grocery shopping, Sunday: My annual Girls Vegas trip is this Sunday – Wednesday. We meet at my house and then I drive us down there (3 or 4 hours). We live for this all year and I am so excited! I have been thinking about what makeup I’m taking all week – still not sure! I don’t want to use my new things just yet but then I have bought certain things specifically for this trip. I’m leaning towards the Chanel Empreinte du Desert and maybe . . .MAC Amber x 9, then I can just bring the same blush and lipstick for both.
What was the last thing you cooked?: I love to cook but it’s been so dang hot. Lately it’s just salads from the salad bar at the local grocery store but a week or so ago it was Jambalaya Pasta. That and eggs or cereal and fruit for breakfast.
Have a blast in Vegas, Pearl! What a fun tradition that you have going with your friends 🙂
What do you put in jambalaya pasta?
Bell peppers, onions, andouille sausage, chicken, shrimp, cream, parmesan cheese, diced tomatoes, thyme and chicken broth and a few other things I’m sure I’m not remembering. I use Emeril Lagasse’s recipe – it’s Mr. Pearl’s favorite.

Thank you!!
