I bought a ridiculous amount of makeup this week, most of it for my sister’s wedding tomorrow, since I’m doing both hers and my own before the ceremony. But I did also get both the MAC C’est Chic and Morphe 35OS palettes for myself. I think I am going to restrict myself to a few low-buy months, only replacing products I empty.

Haul: The Anastasia glow palettes in Moonchild and Sweets. I thought I was going to wait for Christine to review them before I tried them, but as soon as I saw them I had to put them all over my face! They are like a rainbow and I LOVE them!!

Weekend: Big birthday party for my husband (turning 56) and grand daughter (turning 11). I got my granddaughter her first eyeshadow palette (UD Gwen Stefani) so I’m super excited to see her reaction! I had to get her a MAC 239 brush so she will be able to get good results with that new palette, lol.

To think: I have to be alone. My car or the bathroom are places I often go to “hide” when I need to think.

Today I’m wearing Christine’s MAC Charteuse look from earlier this week and it is so pretty!

Poor Mellan! He looks like he was sentenced to time out!
Haul:
HSN (20% Off): Smashbox L.A. Lights Blendable Lip & Cheek Color (Mullholland Mauve). I love the 2 I already have so the 20% off sucked me in.

Josie Maran: Coconut Watercolor Lip Stain + Shine (Getaway Red and Pink Escape), Whipped Argan Oil Body Butter Travel Size (Jasmine and Vanilla Apricot). The lippies were $8 cheaper on her site (with free shipping) than on Sephora. I also wanted to try the body butters and her site has more scents.

Neiman Marcus ($40 Gift Card): Marc Jacobs Air Blush (Kink & Kisses), YSL Black Opium Hair & Body Oil, Oribe Glaze for Beautiful Color, Oribe Airbrush Root Touchup (Black), Oribe Impermeable Anti-Humidity Spray, Supergoop Setting Mist (Beauty Cue GWP)

Nordstrom: Trish McEvoy Intense Gel Eyeliner (Charcoal), MAC Instacurl Lash (Instablack), MAC Eyeshadow (Creme de Violet). The McEvoy gel liners are some of thebest liners out there IMO. Charcoal is a new addition to her shade line so I “needed” it!

Saks: Christophe Robin – Delicate Volumizing Shampoo with Rose Extracts, Volumizing Conditioner with Rose Extracts, Instant Volumizing Mist with Rose Water, and Regenerating Shampoo With Prickly Pear Oil

Skinstore (25% Off): REN – Glycol Lactic Radiance Renewal Mask and Clearcalm 3 Replenishing Gel Cream. Good discount so I bought back-ups.

Unrelated, but I discovered a new site that is MUCH cheaper than Sephora on my REN. It’s BeautyExpert.com. REN recommends them so I think ordering is safe and the shipping is free. They carry a pretty large number of brands. I may place an order later today since they are doing 30% off on REN and 1 product alone ends up being $30 less than Sephora charges!

Weekend plans: I have a bunch of coupons for free stuff at Ulta so I will probably go there. Otherwise not really sure. Mani of course.

Where do you go when you need to think or be alone?: I work from home so I am actually alone most of 5 days a week. If I really feel the need for more alone time, I go for a drive.

Katherine T. Avatar

I just googled MAC Crème De Violet, and it’s beautiful! Will go well with my purple and pink lippies. Can you let me know how it performs? Thanks!

Michele @Binxcat4ever Avatar

Katherine, I wore Crème De Violet yesterday with my UD Moondust. I switched my primer to the NYX Glitter Primer bc of the Moondust (I mention this as it may effect wear). I applied all of my shadows dry using the UD Moondust brush. Crème was very creamy in pan, buttery, and well pigmented. (It did kick up a bit – not duty though – but I think it’s bc I hit the pan kind of sideways with my brush.) It applied as a light-medium toned violet with strong pink undertones. It wore all day with no fading whatsoever.

Katherine T. Avatar

Awww, Mellan– must work for doggie treats!
*ColourPop – Nillionaire shadow (wow), Lippie Stix in Hollywood Blvd and Taurus (love!). And 2 more backups of Lip Pencil in Petit Four because it’s really hard to find gray lip liners, and I’m going to use them to mix with my pink, blue, and purple lippies to create new colors. Tom Ford Velvet Orchid lipstick is coming on Saturday. So is Laura Geller Luminous Essentials Kit ( Highlighters in French Vanilla, Gilded Honey, and Ethereal Illuminating Stick)
*Weekend – relax, attend BBQ graduation party
*My best thinking is done in the shower or during walks

Katherine T. Avatar

Christine, OMG, I just saw a sneak pic of the KVD Metal Matte Eyeshadow palette that’s coming for fall/winter! I’ve never seen anything like this— -9 metallics and 13 coordinating mattes, in neutrals and pops of colors, AND it’s cooler toned, too! Squeeee!!! Sorry for going off track, but I got too excited, hope you will review/swatch if you can get your hands on it.

Katherine T. Avatar

For the KVD Metal Matte, I probably have to stalk the Sephora website, and buy as soon as it hits online, then return later if it doesn’t work out or review well. It’s such a rare palette – cooler toned, 13 mattes and 9 metallics for a complete eye look (woohoo!). I sure hope it performs better than Serpentina. And yes, to anyone interested, I will post my thoughts on Tom Ford Velvet Orchid lipstick. FedEx assures me it’s coming this Saturday, and I will be at home until it comes, because they require a signature for delivery. Can’t wait to get my hands on it !

Tammy B Avatar

I want Nillionaire! But what I really, really want is to know what you think of that Tom Ford lipstick. I am afraid to buy full sized Tom Ford lipsticks because Negligee went bad on me within a few months of purchase. It’s not wearable because it smells so bad. I have six lips and boys that have held up very well, so i don’t know why Negligee was so problematic.

Katherine T. Avatar

Ok folks, I have Tom Ford Velvet Orchid lipstick in my greedy little hands and on my lips! What’s interesting is that I’ve seen 3 swatches from different bloggers (incl Christine’s), and the online swatches all appear more berry-ish, but on my wrist and lips, it’s a muted plummy mauve rose brown. It’s much redder/plummier on Christine than on me. So either we got different batches, or the color pulls more red or muted depending on your natural lip color and your skin undertones. I went through my stash, and I couldn’t find any close dupes, they were all either too brown, pink, or plum. The closest one I could find was Tom Ford Lips and Boys Daniel. On my pale wrist, they swatched similar, but on my lips, Daniel pulls pinker, frostier, and lighter than Velvet Orchid, and Velvet Orchid’s formula is also much better. So….I was looking forward to the color I saw on Christine’s lips, but I didn’t get it. Nevertheless, I’m still very happy with the color I got. On me, it’s a very gorgeous, easy- to- wear MLBB color that I can reach for all the time, and I don’t have any dupes in my stash. The formula is very smooth, lightweight, and creamy. The packaging is luxe, and it has a hefty feel to it. Is it worth $60? IDK, I do love it, but that’s a lot of money. I was expecting a totally different color, but I would definitely wear this color more often, since it goes with almost everything. And for $ 60, you better bet I’m going to wear it until it’s gone, then I might have to hang it from my neck as jewelry 😉 BTW, if anyone has this, and knows of a dupe let me know. I don’t want to have to buy a backup!

Michele @Binxcat4ever Avatar

I have the same issue with looking at swatches – and you’re right, it all depends on the person’s skin tone/lip tone, what they may use before or after (primer/setting spray), skin oiliness, etc. I’ve been following Christine long enough now that I can kind of mentally compensate for the shade differences in my head. I’m going to keep an eye out for a deal on the TF bc it really sounds like something I’d like to add. I would suggest trying a lip primer or pencil to get the shade you were looking for. Maybe something with no color (like UD Ozone or the one from Bite) or something closer to the shade you were looking for will do the trick.

Katherine T. Avatar

I re-read Christine’s review on Vevlet Orchid, and she did mention it’s not completely opaque, so the color will probably vary by person. Thanks for the tip, will try using different lip liners to see if I can get a redder color. I don’t want to plunk down another $60 for backup, so I’m going to try different lip liners on Tom Ford Daniel to see if I can get close to Velvet Orchid. The 2 have a very similar shimmer, and they are in the same color family, so it’s just a matter of tinkering with the base color, and Daniel is permanent.

Julia Avatar

I was thinking about getting one of those beds for my dogs to use outside, but they really love lying on either the deck or the grass, so I think they’d snub me too, lol!

Haul: Oh boy, it was a big week of deliveries here! Most notably, ABH Sweets and Moonchild, which are so beautiful I nearly shed a tear 🙂 Finally got my Goss # 14 brush which which is lovely and picked up a RCMA no color powder to try. Urban Decay 24/7 liquid liner in Perversion since they are dc’ing it (score, $6!!). Sephora Ultra Shine Lip Glosses in Fresh Peach, Sweet Orange, Fresh Mango and Nude Alert, and the MUFE small magnetic palette- I saw on reddit that a few people had used that and some 15mm round tins from TKB Trading and had depotted the UD 24 color Vice sampler into a pretty fab little palette, so I’ve collected 2 of the samplers from my Sephora orders and I’m going to try my hand at that.
I also ended up getting a few things from Prime Day including a pair of Frye pumps at about 80% off the retail price! Really pleased with that one!
Weekend plans: Taking the pups to the dog park tomorrow, trying to get the house back in order after vacation – finish unpacking, etc. Also my UD lipstick depotting adventure!
Where do you go when you need to think or be alone?: Shower is always a nice little escape, and taking the dogs out for a walk is definitely a nice break for me to take a breath and think.

Enjoy your weekend with your family, Christine!

Tammy B Avatar

Julia, I was thinking of you when I was trying all of the Moonchild colors and saw that there really is a GREEN highlight shade in the palette! You had written last week that if Anastsia made a green highlight you would probably buy it. I did my cheeks yesterday with blue, green and pink highlights and thought it was so pretty! You could see a different color depending on the way the light hit my face .

Julia Avatar

Haha!! I doubt the green will be my most- used, but I regret nothing!? i think I had about 6 colors swatched on my face before going to bed on Wednesday. I was just so excited, each one was even more beautiful. I ended up wearing Sassy Grape and Marshmallow from Sweets yesterday (grape as eyeshadow, marshmallow as highlight and tear duct). I just love the glow kits SO. MUCH.

kjh Avatar

Yay for rainbow! Nice. You guys will make me get them. Btw, Looxi is sold out, per usual, of all but about 4 products, both eye and ‘lighter. ABH will give THEM a run for the money. Thanks for the tip on Trish liners, Michele, have totally overlooked her for years. And Katherine, if you are in on Taurus, gotta copy cat you. As to dog beds, cushions, cooling pads, forget it. They are such Velcro animals, that they will be wherever you are. It’s 95+ in Boston, and my remaining fellow is snuggling up as if it’s 50 in here. Used to be 1 malamute and 3 border terriers…..on a twin bed. If it got way too hot, they’d go into the open crates on a level with the mattress, and throw the pads out to sleep on the metal. Miss them all. No haul, good girl! Thinking is pretty out front, rather than solitary. To be alone, wait for Jussi to start a nap. Alone is impossible at most of my job settings, even in the bathroom…..

Julia Avatar

I have a good number of Looxi shades… I have to be honest, now that ABH has ventured into the “creative’ color arena, I don’t think I’ll buy from Looxi again. It does’t cost much more per shade to get ABH and the quality is just so much better. I really applaud them for their cool color choices and good prices, but the powders are so dry and dusty compared to the Glow Kits. 🙁

Katherine T. Avatar

I have cool yellow undertones, and Taurus is one of these rare medium peachy browns that don’t make me look sick! It looks quite stunning on me, will go well with that Anastasia Modern Renaissance palette, might have to get a backup

Mariella Avatar

Haul: MAC Smut eyeshadow (in the pro pan), the skinny version of Marc Jacobs Blaquer liner (I said I was going to wait til a VIB % off sale but I like this stuff so much – to my absolute surprise – that I just couldn’t wait)

Weekend plans: perhaps yoga class tonight, and gym tomorrow. Sunday, brunch at a favourite place down the street with our son (we want to spend as much time with him as we can; he’s got Rib Fest plans with his buddies on Saturday, otherwise, I’d be giving the gym a miss for sure)

Where do you do when you need to think or be alone: I’m lucky in that I have the house to myself a fair bit and tend to do my thinking (what little I actually do) then. My car is also good and so is the Bruce Trail which happens to be about 100 feet from my house.

Mariella Avatar

I was exactly the same when I first got my first one (a Points Perk sample) – I actually thought it was the regular MJ liner and was so disappointed. And yes – it is sharp and hard and kinda dangerous. But I use it for my upper waterline and nothing else lasts as long or gives the same almost undetectable but “impactful” result. With not a single other product on my eyes, my lashes look so thick and dark and my eyes seems so bright and defined. But there’s no way I can use it as a regular type eyeliner – the result is so hard and harsh.

Linda Avatar

Hi Mellan! Cali and Gus Dawgs from Boston say hi!

Haul:
Wayne Goss Air Brush (actually got it last week, but forgot to report). I’m getting used to it. It is super soft and luxe. I didn’t find myself reaching for it all that much and was second guessing the purchase until….

Marc Jacobs new Kinks & Kisses Air Blush came this week. Read Christine’s reviews, and it sums it up. Lovely, lovely product of superior quality. Buildable yet light. I was wondering if the color was the best choice for me, and I think it’s good to go. I really like this blush, and the Goss brush applies it perfectly.

A few drugstore purchases:
L’Oreal Infallible Super Slim Liner. I was looking for a replacement for my Kat Von D Tattoo Liner. I was pretty sure I could find a good one for less $. I did an A/B comparison of one on each eye, and I could not tell the difference in the least. The L’Oreal is easy to apply, and the longevity is A+.

Took a flyer and bought L’Oreal Infallible 24-Hour Eye Shadow in Smoldering Plum. Holy 24-hour claim is right! The stuff wears like iron. I’ve been using it as a liner jmostly, and it doesn’t budge. There is fallout, but the staying power has won me over.

Weekend — Nothing much. Doggie time, begin packing for vaycay, and lounging some poolside after laps.

When I need to think, be alone — two places, nothing fancy. My bedroom is sanctum sanctorum for me. Close the door and I’m good. Or a quite walk alone with the dogs in the woods. I do some good thinking there.

Tracey E. Avatar

Hi Linda, I’ve only been using my WG Air-Brush for a few days but wanted to echo what Christine said about it working with highlighters. This brush as been able to pick up and beautifully apply the highlighter shades from 2 Bobbi Brown blush/highlighter palettes that I long wrote off and was just using the blush shades. That blew me away!

A Avatar

I got Chanel Blush Creme in a shade Revelation – it’s a lovely colour and a great natural, go-to everyday kind of blush that works with everything on my skintone, which surprised me as it looked too cool for that but seemed to turn into a soft, warmer pink blended out.

Haul: I hauled a whole lot of sheet masks at the Korean store Shin Shin. I mean a lot.
Weekend Plans: Probably not a whole lot but I am supposed to have a Korean food date on Sunday.
Where do I go to think: Hmmm, usually bed I guess. I’m pretty good about thinking on my feet.

kjh Avatar

Hope you are reading the snailcasters. KB is quite the rabbit hole. My next project is DIY sheet masks with proven ingredients, not nec Asian. Will score some mask blanks on Amazon and go for it. Would love to hear your mask choices, but this isn’t Reddit AB. I write quite a few off, due to high alcohol or aloe. If Shin Shin has a site: there. Korean food reminds me of Japanese, but with more garlic. Happy hanbang-ing.

Erin Avatar

I bought a lot of what they had there, not everything but I bought 17. One is a pack of 5 in one container, however. I should have paid more attention to the ingredients. I like the Aloe ones. I mean it’s not as good as fresh of course but is there a reason you don’t like them?

As for alcohol, there wasn’t any in the one I used the other day. The only bad thing was parabens.

I have a photo of all of them on my Instagram feed if you want to see what I got. I even got hand and foot ones!

kjh Avatar

Interesting. I have sensitivity to aloe on mucous membranes. Took me a while to figure it out. I’m simply not using anything in a sheet mask that bothers any other body system, including apple products, and it’s far too gross to explain either. Alcohol is a maybe, if low on the list. Strictly taboo to Paula B, and I’ve had super results from PC, so I’m pretty much an acolyte. I really want to try snail and galactomyces, maybe probiotics. I almost app’d tumblr to look at some sneak peeks, but I refuse to tell them my age, and they would not accept 999, 99, 90, or 9. Basically hate all social media and cells, for psych/neuro/beh reasons. But many times I have clicked on a google result for Instagram, only to have the screen slide up. Boo. I hate having to join/ subscribe. Just generates all kinds of unwanted poop. Not to mention drives, focuses, and demands your attention. I have a no cell policy at home, bec it’s bloody rude to answer your phone, while you are venting to me, wanting me to listen to your woes, and solve your problems. Lock the bloody thing in your trunk. Too many people are driven obsessively to be not in the present. Go to a rest w/ friends? Everyone is on their phones and not even interacting. And don’t get me started about delegating brain functions to a device. A person visiting my day job panicked that her gps apps would not work, and she could not find the highway. Down the hill, turn right, right there. Panicked. Could not even get in her car, and the highway was 2 minutes away? But I would like to see your mask haul. Be careful of the foot masks and cosdna the ingredients. Some are fairly strong peels, and how do you know, except through research? Like your CGRs, including wine.

Alice Avatar

Haul: birthday order from Salus Beauty (I had a gift certificate form a friend): shea butter body cream, orange clove soap, sweet almond oil, 2 lip balms, and 3 shower bombs.

Weekend plans: Back to working on the bathroom now that we’re home from vacation 🙂 The roofers were here Tuesday so now we have to schedule the guys to come in and fix the ceiling/wall in our bedroom that is water damaged from the old leaky roof.

Where do you go when you need to think/be alone: The patio in the summer, the parlor in the winter.

Lacey Avatar

That puppy bed story, omg! When we brought our little guy home, we took him to the backyard for several minutes. We came back inside, showed him his bed, and he immediately peed on it. Twenty minutes in the grass, no, but in a brand new puppy bed for 2 seconds, yes.

Currently weighing my highlighting options. There are several from Bobbi Brown that I want, but also the new ABH palettes. The UD Moondust palette is on my list as well. I just have to budget and I hate that everything I want most is LE!

When I need time alone I go to my office or to my makeup vanity. In the office, I either color in my adult coloring books or plan (with stickers and such) While watching Netflix. If I’m at my makeup table, I’ll clean, reorganize, shop my stash, and so on. I find that focusing on something creative and/or organizing and tidying up areas I actually enjoy cleaning can help me relieve some stress. Then I’m better able to tackle other things.

Tammy B Avatar

Lacy, I was going to Ulta to make a return on Sunday and my husband asked to come along. (He never does this!) Ulta had the UD Moondust palette on display so of course I had to swatch it. He loved the sparkly colors so he bought it for me…for my birthday in NOVEMBER! He told me on our way out of the store that he asked to come with me so that he could find out what I was interested in and buy it ahead for a gift. So I will be getting this palette but I have a pretty long wait ahead of me, lol.

Lacey Avatar

That’s so sweet of him! My boyfriend is a good sport about my makeup obsession, but he hasn’t bought me anything. He says it’s because I always buy myself what I want and there’s nothing left for him to get, but I think he’s secretly trying to avoid being an enabler.

Julia Avatar

Aww, Tammy – that is so sweet of your husband! My magpie tendencies have me ogling that palette even though I’m a die-hard neutral wearer. I hope you love it!

kjh Avatar

Have to (expletive deleted) love dogs. Just love spite peeing. A friend slept in my bed? Guess I’ll mark THAT scent off the pillow! But yours is just puppy beh. We have 3 new pups in the hood: a Pyr, a Morkie, and a mini poodle. Heaven.

Lacey Avatar

Mine is 2 now, but yes, you love them despite their accidents and bad habits. And in my case (Australian Shepherd), all of that fur on my couch and floor! 🙂

Michele @Binxcat4ever Avatar

Lacey, if you’re registered with (and order from) UD directly, they’re doing 10 free samples today. I don’t always order directly form them but they do have those kickbacks (I got a $20 one recently) so it does really help if you buy a fair amount of their products.

Lacey Avatar

Thanks for the tip! I am registered with them but I can’t remember the last order I placed. I tend to buy from Sephora and Ulta so I can get other brands at the same time or boost my point count. But I might check out their current deals!

Audrey Avatar

Haul: I just got back from Las Vegas where I made it my mission to go to every Sephora on the Strip. I made it to 4 of them–not sure if I missed any, but I’d say 4 is enough, lol. I shamefully hadn’t picked up a new foundation since the last one I bought 4 years (maybe 5?!) ago, so I figured it was time for it to hit the trash and get something new. I tried on 4 or 5 in the stores and settled on NARS’ Sheer Glow Foundation. I’ve never tried it before so I’m a bit nervous that it may break me out as it seems to do for others, but the finish is truly lovely and I see what all the hype is about. Time will tell about the breakouts. I also got a Kat Von D liquid lipstick in Lolita II, Guerlain’s D’Or primer, Dinoplatz’s Spilled Wine lip balm (it smells AMAZING, but isn’t that hydrating…I’ll use it up but won’t repurchase), and a sheet mask from Dr. Jart that I’ve yet to try. I will give it one more go, but I think Lolita II will be returned since the color looks straight orange on my lips and nothing like it did on my hand or other lip swatches online.

Weekend plans: Tomorrow I’m going up to Seattle for a Mariner’s game, and then Sunday will be filled with making lessons for the last semester of Summer School.

Where do you go when you need to think or be alone?: I like my living room couch. I feel like that’s were most of my work and big decision making gets done.

Audrey Avatar

LOL! I know, I’m a bit ridiculous, but it was great fun.

The four I found were in the Fashion Show Mall, next to the Venetian in the Grand Canal Shoppes, inside the Forum Shops at Caesars, and then inside the Miracle Mile shops in Planet Hollywood, where I finally bought all my stuff.

I think that the Sephora inside Caesars was the nicest. It had the best in-store brand selection and most everything was fully stocked.

monica Avatar

Haul: definitely planning on picking up a few things from the Nordstrom’s Anniversary sale. Other than that, I’ve been on a low buy
Weekend plans: nothing planned yet
Where do you go when you need to think or be alone?: on a walk or I escape into a movie or book if I’m not able to go on one.

Rachel R. Avatar

Enjoy your visit with your family!

Haul: Nothing beauty related. I got a bunch of cute jewelry for my industrial piercing.

Weekend plans: Hubby and I are taking our older son to Eugene to visit my BIL, and then were heading to the coast for some camping. We have a camper on our pickup.

Where do you go when you need to think or be alone?: Leave the house. I can’t think around here.

Alys Avatar

MOAR NAIL POLISH! I recently went a little crazy for the ILNP Summer release although I only bought two. But that caused me to buy 4 from Illyrian and 1 from Baroness X. I bought two other polishes but those were a gift for a friend (although I did have to try out the one shade…..) So I had about 10 new polishes. Nevermind that there’s an Illyrian new release today, avoiding that like the plague!

Weekend plans? Please, I’m a hermit hahaha

When I really need to think I go for a run. It’s a zen experience. I don’t actually really think while running, but after I view things differently.

Estefania Avatar

Haul: The Charlotte Tilbury Hot Lips collection, Anastasia Moonchild and Sweets Glow Kits, Urban Decay Moondust Palette, Too Faced Queen B Melted Matte and Born This Way Concealer.

Weekend plans: I’ve got a freelance makeup gig and an appointment to check out wedding venues tomorrow! I’m so excited!

Where do I go to think: I love being home by myself, writing. I don’t get a lot of time alone because I live with my family, but when I do, I bust out the laptop and start writing 🙂

Joyce Avatar

Haul: Becca Champagne face palette

Weekend Plans: a friend’s son’s birthday party tomorrow afternoon :), church, and having my mom & sister come over after!

Where do you go when you need to think or be alone? I usually just lay in my bed until I fall asleep! Lots of thinking or trying to avoid the problem going on before I eventually dose off 😛

Tracey E. Avatar

Ah yes, Mellan and his new bed. We buy toys for out cat but his favouries seem to be a broken shoe lace and, at present, packing peanuts.

Haul: Bobbi Brown Telluride Highlighter and Bobbi Brown Luxe lipstick. Ordered a Kevyn Aucoin eyeshadow roller in Amethyst and a KA Look in a Book from the Space NK sale (my ordered totaled $18 and free shipping). I’m usually not attracted to a palette that has lip products as part of palette but decided for $11, if all I tried were the eyeshadows, it’s worth it. This is my first intro to KA.

Weekend plans: Dinner with my spouse at my favoritte sushi restaurant (we’ll get a little dressed up) and taking online classes before my subscription ends.

Thinking Things Out: I often work things through when I’m driving or listening to music, or going for a walk by the lake.

Enjoy time with your mom and grandmother, Christine. These are precious moments together.

Tracey E. Avatar

My cat just went crazy over packing peanuts and now I have bit of foam everywhere. At least he’s not shredding our toilet paper! ?

I picked up Hisbiscus and love it! I had Pink Sugar blush on my cheeks, Telluride highlighter swept along the mid-to-high areas of my cheekbones (it had this neat lavender effect) and topped off with Hisbiscus lipstick. I declined trying other lipstick shades so not to disrupt the look. I beamed all the way home! Waiting in the wings are BB Hot Rose and Red Velvet Luxe lipsticks.

Veronica Avatar

Haul: Trying out Colour Pop for the first time. I nabbed a couple of the matte and satin liquid lipsticks and a few lippie sticks. I’ve been trying to convince my coworker that it’s the same product as the Kylie lip kits (literally, same company makes them) and that she shouldn’t wasting her money on a 300% markup. 9_9

Weekend Plans: Other than working, I’m giving my sister some company while she dog sits.

Where do you go to be alone? My room. I live with my friends and their young children, so there isn’t much space to do otherwise. I’m not a total introvert, but I tend to split down the middle on those personality tests for intro/extro personality, so I like my space.

Nancy T Avatar

Too darn funny about his first pet bed! My oldest cat had the exact same response to hers….

Haul: My Colourpop and Sephora orders arrived this week!!! Colourpop Telepathy e/s (amazing!), Truth e/s, Zulu e/l, Sticky Sweet and Lunch Money highlighters, plus 2 free lipglosses that are really nice! Buxom 6-pan with It Crowd, Rose Gold, Bronzed Bod, Dusk Til Dawn, Twilight Tryst and Room Service arrived yesterday with a bunch of samples. I am SO excited to do a look today using this palette! ?

Weekend Plans: Because I did my root t/u yesterday to hide my increasingly mousy looking brown hair and stress highlights, hair is already done. So, nothing much. Just a little food shopping and redo my nails.

Where do you go when you need to think or get away: Hmm, no car anymore, so no more long adventure drives to clear my head. So now, with the kids grown and no one else around, I actually have too much of what I longed for back then: time to myself. Be careful what you wish for, I have learned.

Nancy T Avatar

Both have made it into my top 5-6 Colourpop shadows! Telepathy is SO glowy and draws out all the gold in my eyes, makes me look like a cat! And absolutely YES to Truth being a fantastic browbone highlight! Makes everything else blend like magic, and even corrects an accidental over-application of a bright or intense shade, too, ie; Buxom It Crowd, today.

Katherine T. Avatar

Hmm, looks like I need to check out CP Sticky Sweet and maybe Truth too! Purple blushes tend to pull pink on me, so maybe Sticky Sweet will help

Nancy T Avatar

Katherine, I have the same issue, everything turns warm on my cheeks. This looks dark plummy purple in the container. When I put it over a pink shade, it alters it to noticeably more plum. Now, I want to try it on top of CP Rain to see if I get I perfect violet-purple blush. Truth will SHOCK you! In the pan, it *looks* light brown, but it goes on as a perfect satin beige. Oh, and it blends out an overly zealous application of a crease shade, too!

Haul: Urban Decay Moondust pallete, 4 new Moondust singles in Crux, Dark Cloud, Horizon, and Stellar, a Buxom custom palette with Bronzed Bod, No Faux, Style Icon, Dusk til Dawn, Twilight Tryst, and Rose Gold. Plus Urban Decay highlighter in Aura and Vice lipstick in Amulete.
Weekend plans: I’m on vacation and a friend of mine is in town so I’ve been hanging out with her and going to dinner and such. Also have plans to go out for casual dinner and drinks with another friend of mine. It’s been fun
Where do you go when you need to think or be alone?: Usually just somewhere alone or the shower. Something to calm me and clear my brain

Stephanie Avatar

Haul: Nothing! But it’s going to be hard to resist for much longer what with the 5x points on UD at Ulta!

Weekend plans: other than getting the slow leak in one of my tires checked, nothing specific.

Where I go to think/be alone: The shower, or the gym (at night, anyway).

Deborah S. Avatar

Haul: Not very much this week as I am waiting for our trip to Seattle where I plan on stocking up and hitting Sephora/Nordstrom’s/Ulta. ABH liquid lipstick in “Kathryn” and “Craft”. Dream Dots for my daughter and It cosmetics Bye Bye Red.
Weekend Plans: Spending most of the weekend getting ready for our trip to Seattle, Vancouver B.C. and then down the coast of Oregon and California. We are seeing Adele while in Seattle so trying to decide what to wear. It is a concert so would normally opt for jeans or something comfortable but for Adele it just doesn’t seem right. I feel like I should dress up a little. Have to decide before Monday.
Alone time: I lived alone for several years and then when my ex-husband moved in so that I could take care of him I quickly realized how much I missed alone time. He is a major extrovert and I am an introvert so his constant need for stimulation sometimes just overwhelms me. I have grown since we were married though and now I just tell him, “Hey, I need some quiet time.” I go for a walk or just go to my room and close the door. He must have grown some also because he doesn’t push me anymore.

Christine Avatar

How long will you be in Seattle for, Deborah? I hope you enjoy your time at the concert. She has such an amazing voice!

It’s great that you’re able to voice your needs better now, and also that he can accept that you just need your quiet time as well!

Pearl Avatar

Mellan sure knows how to pose!

Haul:
Camera Ready Cosmetics:
Ardell Black Demi Wispies
Every Last Drop Beauty spatulas (lipstick, small container)

Makeup Geek:
Spatula

Amazon:
Mario Badescu Summer Shine Lotion (totally random because I was getting bear spray)

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale:
Chanel Quads Tisse Rivoli, Essentiel
Deborah Lippmann The New Romantics nail polish minis set
Glamglow Glamazing kit

Weekend plans: Continuing backyard project and the usual cleaning/laundry/cooking.

Where do you go when you need to think or be alone?: I go for walks or drives. I get a lot of alone time when I’m getting ready in the morning and on the drive to and from work and it really helps me gear up or come down from the day. Sometimes exercise classes help with that too, like if I just go and stay in the back or in the gym getting on the treadmill.

Anne Avatar

Haul: Not too much beauty-wise. My Jouer liquid lipstick in Pétale de Rose that was backordered came in. Oh! I also got the Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick Palette for 50% off during the Macys sale. I wasn’t going to get anything but I’d been eyeing that one and avoided it because of the price (and also I don’t usually go for Smashbox items for some reason).

Non-beauty ish wise, I found out Victoria’s Secret is discontinuing their swimwear line and as a busty lady whose spine can’t handle anything but thick, non-halter straps that’s bad news for me, so I got a basic black tankini with underwire that cost waaaay too much, but will last me for a while. If anyone has good recommendations for places that have good support w/thick shoulder straps, good coverage, basic swimwear that lasts, please let me know!

Weekend plans: the usual waiting game with medical stuff, otherwise chilling at home

Where do you go when you need to think or be alone?: Used to go for walks or also the shower, but nowadays I can’t go for a walk and the shower is no longer chill as standing is tough, so I don’t really have a place I can go for thinking or alone time.

Katherine T. Avatar

Hang in there Anne! I googled that Jouer lipstick, oooh it’s very pretty, I can see why it’s on back order, hope you enjoy it.

Lea Avatar

From Nordstrom I got 2 sets of the Neulash duo, Burberry lip liner in Rose Blush, 2 Armani Eccentrico mascaras (made my eyelashes hid my lids – amazing), Lippmann polish in I Feel Pretty and remover duo, CT Instand Beauty palette (I caved with my triple points and will test it out in person), Cle de Peau cotton and eye cream, Dennis Gross peel pads and the tiny foreo to try.

Sephora – GlamGlow cleaner (white one) and three from the queue of doom in green, black and orange. I forget the various names offhand.

Neiman’s – pretty spectacular discovery (for me at least) – they have some of the new Cle de Peau cleansers, radiant liquid rouges and luminizer online, so I ordered the liquid rouges in Chenille and Flushed (will get more if these are as good as CdP other lip products), Luminizing enhancer in Almond (#16), the new Clarifying Cleansing Foam and Edward Bess lip liner in Natural. I have alive-hate with lip liners in trying to find the right pinky-nude color that doesn’t get muddy but still goes on creamy. I’m also eyeing the CdP cleansing clay scrub, but holding off since I just got the GlamGlow

Lea Avatar

Totally forgot about the other questions. I’m going to relax free a long, long week and clean up around the house.

As to where I go to be alone or think – I tend to watch movies to relax or sit with the better half but read to be alone, but not alone. Sometimes it’s nice to sit with your partner even if you’re not chatting.

Lea Avatar

Thanks. Not sure it was out then, it only arrived in the last week or two just as the new matte shadows were arriving in store. The tube is black with a red cap in line with the maestro lipsticks.

I mix and match my skincare based on needs and time of year, so I have quite a bit of CdP skincare and cosmetics. Shiseido was my starter brand as a teen for skincare and make- up, so I’ve only strayed a few times from the line overall. I also use Chantecaille, SKII, bits of Amore Pacific (Korean), and Sunday Riley. The so-called skin ideal for most of Asia is to get and maintain immaculate, very fair skin. While I was born with the very fair part, the rest of the ideal is also what I strive for. The eye cream I bought is my holy grail. Expensive, but it works so well for me without disrupting make up; the only others that come close are Fresh Black Tea (which I also really love) and Amani Crema Nera Extrema Obsidian for the brightening. Like you, I had been using a lot of skincare from my derm, but I ran out of my suffer cleanser and have been trying out new cleanser options with great results but less of the funky smell.

Genevieve Avatar

Oh – poor Mellon – he looks so forlorn. But hopefully he will come to love his airy, comfortable bed in the summer heat.
Haul: just some skincare products this week – daily moisturiser (Innoxa Sensitive Skin daily moisturiser), shampoo and conditioner (DeLorenzo).
Weekend Plans: Probably a drive to the mountains, a visit by my grandchildren tomorrow, the usual cleaning stuff.
Place to Think: I have my comfy spot in a corner of the couch in our Rumpus room or our garden swing outside on a sunny day. They are my favourite spots.

Genevieve Avatar

That is so hard Christine – on both sides when grandparents live so far away. My mother’s family live in another state to us and we rarely saw them too. Fortunately our grand children live only 10 minutes away and we see them quite often during the week as well.
Olivia (2 years) picked out a miniature beauty case as a little present when we were in Target last week. She knew exactly what to do with the pretend lipsticks and nail polish containers.. She just wished they were real. So cute.

Cory Avatar

Haul: ABH Moonchild Glow Kit & Summer Lip Gloss set, ABH Modern Renaissance palette, Too Faced Chocolate Bon Bons Palette (idk why I felt like I needed it!), Benefit Ka-Brow! in shade 3—I will NEVER go back to just using a pencil & powder again!!! The pomades are so much quicker & this one is waterproof! I have oily skin, so this is an A+ for me.
Oh, & from Beautylish, the Bioderma Pore Refiner, it’s like magic for oily skin or large pores! Highly recommend

Naomi Avatar

hauled recently: burts bees and simple cleansing oils, KVD new tattoo concealer, tarte shape tape concealer, 3 MUG shadows, it cosmetics blending concealer brush (LOVE), and Sonia kashuk #205 brush (love this for highlighting!)

weekend plans: off the to the beach tomorrow, then have work on Sunday :/

places to think: I just plug in my headphones and let my mind wander while I lay on my bunk, or in the shower

Naomi Avatar

haven’t tried the KVD one yet, but the tarte one is AMAZING!! like there are no words, full coverage, not cakey, waterproof, doesn’t crease on me (and I have quite a lot of wrinkles under there)

Dianne Avatar

Poor Mellan! Exiled to a bed! It took about five years before my dog appreciated a dog bed– before that, he refused to sleep anywhere but my bed!

Haul: None! On a bit of a no-buy, but I am in a hotel in another state right across from a mall and I’m wondering if their Sephora might carry some stuff my local ones don’t…

Weekend plans: At a conference for journalism educators this weekend in Dallas. Looking forward to attending some interesting classes and spending some time poolside, but also maybe hitting up that aforementioned Sephora.

Place to think? My car is my thinking place especially during my commute, but honestly, my boyfriend knows he shouldn’t really disturb me when I’m sitting at my makeup vanity– I do some good thinking/reflecting there too in the mornings, and in evenings during my PM skin routine.

Dianne Avatar

Who knows?! I bought him a bed he finally “clicked with,” I guess. Either that, or he decided it was more effort to chew it up and rip the stuffing out than it was to just lay down and sleep on it!

Lea Avatar

It could also be the scent. My husband wanted to get our late cat a bed and she refused to use it until we threw a couple of worn tshirts on it to put our scent on it. Then she loved it and we took the shirts away

Cat Avatar

I think Mellan will grow to appreciate the outdoor bed. It has to be so much more comfortable than hot patio tile!

Haul: Missha M Signature Real Complete BB Cream; ABH Moon Child Glow Kit
Weekend plans: Spending time with my daughter and helping her prepare for the coming month. She is leaving some time this week, possibly Sunday, to stay at the Ronald McDonald House until the baby is born. She has to call every day until they tell her there’s an opening. The plan is to induce labor during the third week of August, then both she and the baby will be having surgery soon after delivery.
Where do you go when you need to think or be alone?: I don’t really need to go any place to think, I’m always running through ten different things in my mind. I wish I had a place I could go to NOT think! When I need some uninterrupted time, I sit at my computer with my headphones on, the music turned up just loud enough so I can’t hear if someone knocks on the door. 🙂

Cat Avatar

Thanks, Christine. She left this morning but says she thinks they will be able to drive back for a day visit once or twice before the baby arrives.

Quinctia Avatar

Picked up the UD Moondust palette and Trick lipstick. Cashed in 500 points at Ulta, and basically was back up to 300 almost immediately. Can’t beat that! I’m really impressed with the shadows, I think they’re a bit more strongly pigmented than the singles I’ve got, and they’re just as sparkly.

Don’t have any immediate plans for the weekend. My work schedule’s a bit odd, though–I ended up going out Monday night this week.

I’m a big fan of shower thinking! Also I like curling up in my bed to listen to music or a podcast while doing something like solitaire or sudoku for relaxing quiet time.

Quinctia Avatar

I’ve used it three times so far. First time, I went straight for the purple, so I wore Magnetic on the lid with Galaxy on the outer-v. I did something similar with Lightyear and Galaxy, but Lightyear is so green, I’d probably use it as an accent color the next time I use it.

I wore Specter on the lid with Element on the outer-v and the Sephora Pantone Marsala eyeliner yesterday. That was super pretty.

Helene Avatar

Such a good looking bed and he dislikes it? Oh, Mellan, you have a mind of your own, and that is a good thing, but you should give the bed a chance. 🙂
Haul, only lip products, from Lipstick Queen (on sale) Upper East and a set of three sheer crayons, Mystery,
Catalina and Thriller.
From OCC, Stained Gloss in Off World it vas $3, I couldn’t resist. Lip Tar in Synth and Strange & Unusual, the latter was a must have, the colour is fantastic and the name, describes me rather well (and quite a few others, I think).
I made one spontanious purchase, L’Oréal La Palette Glam, a little ten eyeshadow palette, itt was really quite cheap. I also got a steely liquid eyeliner that was on sale, for here it was ridiculously cheap.
Weekend, just relax, do household chores and keep bingewatching Lost. My son bought the DVD box and I find it fun to revisit the show. I don’t think I saw all the episodes when it aired, I do know I missed the ending.
I think I do my best thinking when walking the dog. I have a lot of alone time, well, almost always with the dog, if I need to be completely alone I like to take a bath.
