This week’s Mellan photo (well, video this week!)…
P.S. — I love seeing everyone interact with each other here, so I am also going approve comments without replying (with the intention of still replying personally!) as I can so that you can see each others comments ASAP!
Mellans sounds a bit like a lion roaring! Awwww, while in college, I spent 4 years away from home, was tough not seeing my Mom on Mother’s Day, not to mention other holidays
*Haul – Ordered UD Alice lipsticks in Mad Hatter and Time (yayyy!). And from MAC Chris Chang Poesia collection, lipstick in Plum Princess and cream base in Sock It Xique. Everything should be coming Sat or Mon – can’t wait to play with them!
*Weekend -more last minute preparations for black tie event next week, family brunch with his Mom, will do my Mom a couple weekends from now due to schedule conflicts
*Favorite Gem – Diamonds!
I can’t remember if I made it home for every Mother’s Day while away from college (I flew home monthly, so I think I probably did, lol), so it feels a bit like the first time, even if maybe it’s not…
One of the harder things I found about joining households (even before we were married) was scheduling holidays with both sides of the family, since when we lived in California, both were relatively local (his two hours away, mine 30-45 minutes away).
Oh tell me about it! I’m pretty fortunate in that both families are local (mostly 30 min-1 hr away) but it’s a nightmare trying to find 1 date that works for everyone, especially since the nieces and nephews are into sports, so if we can all get together great, but if not, we we end up doing separate celebrations. So my Mom gets to celebrate Mother’s Day like 3 times. Anyway, hope you get to see your family in CA soon
I feel for you, Christine. It’s hard to be further away from loved ones. I’m very thankful that my spouse and I are from the same city, and when we go “home”, our parents houses are 10 mins apart at best. No need to decide whose parents to visit at Christmas, thankfulky. But, I miss living where they are and seeing them more regularly.
Ooohhhh – you’ll have to let us know what you think of Time and Plum Princess! I considered Plum Princess…just not sure yet.
Will do! I think Time will be fine on me, but since Plum Princess has some grey in it, I’m worried I’m going to look dead, but I have a couple of cooler lavender blushes that I hope will help me pull it off. It’s funny, I was eyeing Lion Babe Eyeliner but worried it was too warm and disco ball-ish for daytime, but after reading your review, I might get it. I think it has enough bronze in it for me to pull off.
That’s exactly why i hesitated on Princess. I have Jeffree Star’s in Scorpio and that’s very strongly light gray (with lavender). It’s a gorgeous liquid lipstick but for me to wear more often it works better when I blend it with another shade. I can wear it alone but have to be careful with what I pair it with.
Lion Babe was a big surprise for me. the promos for it shows a very dramatic look that i would only wear if I was going to a club (which I’m not btw). It also pulls bronzey – you can even really see the bronze from the pic I took of the liner itself. It’s not that 24K yellow gold tone at all. Because the brush tip is so fine, it’s really easy to get a very fine line going instead of something that’s super statement. I did try it as a lash tip product as well and it worked great for that. It gives kind of a subtle sparkle which I think will work great esp. in the Summer. If you get it, I hope you like it! (Let me know.)
I’m glad you were able to find the lipsticks you wanted!
Thanks Rachel! Me too 🙂
Awww I LOVE the Mellan video! So spunky ?
Haul: Pat McGrath Skin Fetish 003 in Nude. Wearing it again today, it’s so beauuutiful! It really is a unicorn color. I am definitely getting the gold if it gets released as a pigment alone.
Weekend plans: Driving up to Michigan on Sunday for a big customer meeting on Monday. Hoping to go up a little early to see my friend’s new baby, but it feels a little weird to intrude on Mother’s Day!
Favorite gemstone: Aquamarine
He is a fun guy sometimes 😉
Happy to hear you’re enjoying the Pat McGrath highlighter!
Haul: Zoya Naked Manicure
Weekend plans: Celebrating my birthday (and free comic book day!) Saturday, and taking my mom to breakfast on Sunday.
Favorite gemstone: Tanzanite, so pretty.
Happy birthday, Shea!!
Thank you, Christine 🙂
Happy birthday!
Haul: Clinique Take the Day Away micellar cleansing towlettes (never tried these but I love their take the day away makeup remover), Caudalie beauty elixir (to keep in my purse for these summer months), and although I was not planning on purchasing the UD Alice palette when I saw it at Sephora yesterday I just had to have it…sometimes browsing in store gets me in way more trouble than shopping online
Weekend Plans: so many sales this week so headed to the mall early tomorrow morning for Nordstrom fashion show event with some friends and other than that I don’t really have plans so just gonna try to spend as much quality time with my mom as possible 🙂
Favorite gemstone: ruby
Let me know how the Clinique wipes are! 🙂
Have fun at the Nordstrom event! Those are fun!
OMG is that a hedgehog? It looks like the one I bought my daughter at TJMaxx because she has a hedgehog named Dave! And yes, I know I bought her a dog toy.
Haul:
Beautylish: Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick (Gemini and Doll Parts), Sugarpill Cosmetics Loose Eyeshadow (Countess)
MAC: MAC x Chris Chang Cream Color Base (Rich Coral, Sockit Xiqu, Peony Pavilion)
Sephora: Shiseido Synchro Skin Lasting Liquid Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 20 Neutral 2
Target: CeraVe Unscented Foaming Facial Cleanser, Target May Beauty Box. I’ve been curious about the Target beauty boxes. This one looked good and had items I knew I wanted to try. Everything was on sale and I got a $5 gift card so with all the discounts and cash back, I ended up paying $15 for everything so it was worth chancing. Target hasn’t shipped the beauty box yet and I understand they ship sometime around 5/10.
Target (2nd order): The extra $5 gift card was too good to pass up when I realized I wanted to try the NYX BB Cream (Nude) and the La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo Dual Action Acne Treatment. I’ve been using the Mario Badescu Anti Acne Serum and it does shorten the span of breakouts but isn’t preventing them. I’m hoping the La Roche Posay one will do both. And now I have $10 in gift cards – YAY.
Target (3rd order…3 times the charm?): Pixi Natural Contour Powder, NYX Big & Loud Eyelash Primer – This order was actually better than free because I used my 2 gift cards from the previous orders and then got cash back and another $5 gift card
Teeez Cosmetics: Spectrum of Stars Eyeshadow (Minty Haze), Cloud 9 Eyeliner (Iron Radiance and Dark Forest)
Ulta: Tony Moly My Little Pet Wrinkle (4) and My Little Pet Eye Patch (4) (Buy One Get One 50% off), Vitabath Pomegranate & Blood Orange Body Wash (Buy One Get One 50% off), ULTA 3-in-1 Beauty Smoothie (4, Buttercream Cupcake – $4 each I feel like these are being discontinued), 7-pc Bath Sampler (GWP)
Weekend plans: Mani. Write blog reviews. Work on proofreading/editing manuscript (still not done). See what I scored from my daughter for Mother’s Day 😉
Favorite gemstone: Is it shallow if I say diamonds? Runner up is my birthstone – sapphire.
It is! The one they make for dogs has a grunter-squeaker instead of a regular squeaker, which Mellan loves! I think he has gone through half a dozen over the years now, lol. (They last him 3-6 months before there are too many holes and stuffing is left everywhere.) I am guessing your daughter’s will last longer, LOL!
I buy Mellan regular stuffed animals; I don’t find there is a big difference between the two, other than dog ones have squeakers!
Hahaha! It is the same one! She frowned at me when I gave it to her while I was making it grunt! I know she likes it though. Mellan looks like he’s having a ball with it!
Haul: As I mentioned about three weeks ago, I went to MAC to get color matched in Studio Fix, simply because I want to be able to give my MAC skin tone when talking about make up that looks good on me. I was matched in NC30, which made me happy because previously I had been an NC37, and so I thought I had done a great job with protecting my face from the sun. I ended up so impressed with my sample of Studio Fix that I ordered it online, and decided to purchase NC37 so I could compare the colors. It turns out that NC30 is not really lighter than NC37; in fact, NC37 looks slightly lighter. NC30 is more peach, NC37 is more yellow. Both work fine for me, but NC30 is a little more flattering on my skin. I picked up the Studio Fix Powder Foundationtoo.
I got the Pat McGrath Skin Fetish in nude. Everyone else is loving it so I’m trying to love it too. It’s pretty, just not my cup of tea. I also got MAC’s Spring Flock blush, and I do LOVE this color! So glad someone here mentioned it, otherwise I would have never bought it.
I forgot to mention that I picked up the Lush lip scrub and Bees Wax lip balm while I was in Chicago in April. I really like them.
I picked up some UD lipsticks during the sale: Turn On, Liar, Rapture, 69, and Catfight. I am not excited about the new formulas as I think these are very good.
Weekend plans: Recover from my son and his wife’s visit. They’ve been with us since the day of my daughter’s miscarriage last Friday, and I’m ready for a weekend without company and drama. Our cats will appreciate the break too, as my son and wife brought their boxer and German shepherd on vacation with them. We will do a meal for Mother’s Day. My oldest daughter’s gift to me this year is planting a rose bush in my yard.
Favorite gemstone: I am usually drawn to lab-created rubies and emeralds because their color is so striking, but I don’t wear any gemstone jewelry.
Yay!! Good work on the sunscreen efforts, Tammy!! I went from NC30-35 to NC25 myself with religious use, lol. Nice picks on the UD sale!
Hope your daughter is doing as well as she can be during this difficult time!
I’m another big fan of MAC Spring Flock, even got a backup since it’s LE. They need to make it permanent!
I am definitely all for that, Katherine; MAC, please make Spring Flock part of your permanent line?!?
I’m impressed of how both of you went a shade down by using sunscreen, I use it everyday but I’m not at my lightest.
Tammy, what are you not liking about the McGrath highlighter?
Wishing you a lovely Mother’s Day – what a wonderful gift!
I layered products per the directions over lightest amount of foundation–could barely see the glow in the morning and it was gone by end of 8 hour day. I tried it on top of blush to add some highlight but it had less highlighting effect than my regular highlighters and as it wore off during the day it took my blush with it. Tried it on bare skin today, it’s been about 7 hours since I put it on and I have no shimmer now, just an unflattering dirty look on my cheeks–not exactly greasy, but I look like I forgot to wash my face before I left for work. I go out in my natural, untouched skin a couple days every week, and it always looks healthy and slightly luminous on its own. This highlighter is not an improvement. I am willing to try the suggestions of others. I want to experience the “magic” of Pat McGrath’s Skin Fetish.
I don’t have a MAC match since i don’t live close enough to a MAC store to easily get one. I looked up the shades you referenced you purchased to get a sense of your skintone. It loooks to me that you have a light but warm skin – yes? If I’m right, my guess is that you may have done better with the McGrath Golden. Nude does pull cool, esp. when you add the final pigment. If you’re working against your skintone, that might be a problem.
There are probably some creative uses you can still get out of the products though. If you are going for a glow, you can still use the balm applied with a damp sponge and lightly patted on and dust with your fav highlighter. The balm should disburse the shimmer in your regular highlighter and add dimension. You can also just use the highlighter portion of the stick – which is the warmest component IMO. And of course, you can use the pigment powder as a dusting over any eyeshadow you pick, as an accentuation above the Cupid’s Bow, and even patted over a lip product you want to add dimension/glow to. I hope you can find alternate ways to use the products in the kit since it was a big investment. Maybe other readers have some other suggestions as well…
I have been looking in the mirror and I think I know why I don’t like this highlighter: it makes the texture of my skin look rough and my pores noticeable. People stop me all the time to compliment me on my skin, so I know I don’t have bad skin. Maybe I should try this on top of full foundation? (I really only like the to wear a touch of foundation–drops or less than half a pump). I did try putting s touch of face powder on top, but this was a mistake as I immediately lost the glow.
I’m so sorry you don’t love it! It is definitely not a traditional highlighter (especially the nude, which I think was an odd choice for a name as it is pearly pink!). I also don’t wear foundation; I just moisturize then powder. I like all of the products best on their own- I tried topping the pigment with balm and it just erased it to my eyes. I like the powder best applied in concentration to the high points of my cheek bones, then I lightly buff towards the apples of my cheeks since it’s a blush-y color. Since I am applying powder on powder, I feel like the texture ends up smooth and doesn’t cause any textural accentuation. I do hope you find a method that works for you!
Lucky you for great skin! I tend to prefer more coverage (I hide my freckles. My skin is ok, just not great.) Another alternative maybe if you don’t like foundation, is trying it over a primer. I didn’t use setting powder over the highlighter as I think it stands best alone. Fingers crossed for you!
I’m not too excited about the new formula either! I feel like UD quickly “takes back” their releases?
Happy Mother’s Day, Tammy!
Best wishes for your daughter and the rest of your family. I’m sure Mother’s Day will be bittersweet. Enjoy your break from the chaos of company. 🙂
How is your daughter and son in law going? It must be a difficult time for all of you. A rose bush is a gorgeous and thoughtful present. I love them.
My daughter and son in law are still sad, but they have a great deal of support from family and friends, which makes it easier. My daughter is currently excited because she is hosting Mother’s Day in her new home.
Haul: The new rainbow shades of Hard Candy lipsticks. I still have to takes swatch photos (product shots are now done lighting) but I’m testing out ever evening. lol
Weekend plans: Saturday we are dong grocery, Mothers day and a Movie, Sunday I’ll be swimming in code again….. Damn you Visual Studio and you cryptic error Message….
Favorite gemstone: Blue Topaz./ Aquamarine
I’m looking forward to seeing how you like the new lipsticks!
Ditto here – curious to see what you think!
Haul: ColourPop sale goodies (I fiiinally got through to get a brow gel, Glo Up highlight, Frick n’ Frack and Grunge lippies and pencils, and Wattles but they haven’t shipped yet!)
Weekend plans: Grocery shopping, laundry, and meal prep for work on Monday!
Favorite gemstone: Probably opals as well!
So glad you were able to get your order in, Amanda!
Haul: Urban Decay’s Revolution Lipsticks, some ColourPop’s Lippie Stix.
Weekend plans: Coping and nursing pain flare-ups. Also, preparing to travel back to my hometown on Tuesday for wisdom tooth extraction. x_X It hasn’t been a good week for me.
Favorite gemstone: Alexandrite. Alternatively, vitrail/mystic topaz — It’s not really a gemstone but a crystal/Swarovski color, but it’s so pretty I feel it deserves an honorable mention.
Hope you feel better this weekend, Ryou!
Good luck on your wisdom teeth extraction!
Thank you, that’s so sweet of you. <3
I'm really just not looking forward to a soft food diet to be honest. Mashed potatoes get kind of boring after a week. ^^;
Ugh, just try to switch it up if you can, lol. I still can’t eat tomato soup — that’s ALL I had when I had my wisdom teeth out and makes me gag now 🙁
If you want real food, but that is still soft enough, have risotto – and also the plain (small) hamburgers at McDonalds are soft enough to eat after wisdom teeth removal. After I had mine removed some years ago, I sent my brother out to Maccas nearly every day to get me a burger and thick shake!
Omg, how cute is he? And in great shape, for a dog that has to hang around computers and photography equipment. Love the video. Kill the rat! (That’s what earthdog people say) despite he’s a squeaky hedgehog. Charming. Hauled nothing. Good girl!
Plans: SSDW. Night job had a verbal altercation with an arrest last time I was there. I tried to deescalate, but the mgr. exacerbated the situ by yelling and swearing at the customer, who is an ETOH afflicted veteran with PTSD. Not looking forward to it. Gotta replace that job.
Gemstone: don’t get me started. Opal is my birthstone and I do love it. Like Tanzies and Emmies, too. But my true loves are some of the semi-precious stones: malachite, larimar, lapis, fossilized coral, sugilite, Victoria stone, Botswana agate, etc. stones with natural variations have unending fascination for me.
Hope you’re able to replace that job with something less stressful, KJH! That sounds like a really tough ordeal to have gone through 🙁
I think it’s the first time I comment here.
Haul: This week nothing yet but last week I bought LA Colors Mineral blush, they were around one dollar each. And I like them but they’re too powdery so after use them there’s some dust, but they look good on my cheeks.
Weekend plans: Mother’s Day is celebrated in Mexico on May 10th but on Sunday we’re going to visit Chautla Hacienda. And on Saturday maybe going to dinner because my dad won’t be here for Mother’s Day.
Favorite gem: diamonds or amber.
Happy first comment, Efrain! 🙂
Happy to hear that despite the powderiness, the blushes look good applied!
And they swatch well too! If you ever want to do a series of budget makeup I think this deserve a place (three different shades with good payoff so I think the formula is good) but since they were on clearance I’m not sure if they’re going to be discontinued or at least going to disappear in Mexico. That’s the one of the bad things of living in Mexico, we don’t get all the products for example Malice is impossible to get here.
Welcome Efrain!
Thanks Tammy! You’re really sweet.
Welcome, Efrain!
Thank you Tracy, you’re as sweet as Tammy
Haul: My MUFE Florals palette arrived this week, it’s beautiful ?!
Plans for weekend: Not much, just take it easy, maybe take our 2 year old to the park. I’m still recovering from our trip to Paris lol.
Favourite gemstone: Hard to choose! I often prefer to wear semi precious stones, like jade, turquoise, pink quartz, etc. Having said that, I do have a diamond engagement ring, an emerald cut with a small cushion cut diamond either side which I love because it changes colour. It’s not big but it sparkles beautifully.
Showed my daughter the Mellan video ☺, she liked it as she loves dogs, my MIL has a black lab that she adores.
Yay! The Florals palette is pretty 🙂
Haul: Urban Decay Mad Hatter lipstick.
Weekend Plans: Going away party for my friend who is moving to CA next month. Finishing the bathroom. Hanging a photography show for my school today, and the reception/awards tomorrow.
Favorite gemstone: Garnet.
Wow! Sounds you like you have a really busy weekend ahead of you, Alice!
Garner: why am I not surprised? It’s great. So many varieties. I like green garnet, not real common.
Green garnet is really pretty. My favorite is the dark crimson, it’s what I have in my wedding ring.
Haul: NOTHING! Finally getting this no-buy right…at least until the new UD lipsticks come out, at which time I’m in big trouble.
Weekend plans: catching up on cleaning and whatever they do to me for Mother’s Day!
Favorite gemstone: sapphire and star sapphire
Nice job on your no-buy!!
Thanks!
One whole week! ?
You have will of steel! I’m impressed. 😉
•Haul: Picked up the quad, two face duos, and the two eyeliners from the Chanel summer collection. I also did some damage at Beautylish and picked up some Charlotte Tilbury items. I got the Instant Look in a Palette, the bronze and glow duo, an eyeshadow quad, four lipsticks and two lipliners. I think I’m done purchasing for a LONG Time
•Weekend plans: We need to tile the grout in our hall bathroom, linen closet and laundry room. Maybe we will go out for a steak for Mother’s day.
•Favorite gemstone: Diamonds of course!
Hope you get all your goodies soon 😀 Did you get your Chanel products direct?
I ordered mine from Macy’s. I got all my CT items but just ordered the Chanel items yesterday.
Oh, I didn’t know Macy’s had it! Awesome 😀
Haul: Nothing yet. I keep feeling like hauling cause I’m depressed but I rarely do cause I’m trying to be mindful of my budget. Short answer being responsible sucks.
Weekend: Comforting my only local friend who is going through a rough time.
Favorite Gem: Opals!
It is good to be budget-conscious, though! Shop your stash 😀
The struggle is real…but I have enough eyeshadow to last me until the world ends and enough lipstick to last me almost that long. Of course, that’s not going to stop me from buying some of the new UD Vice lipsticks in June, but if I can last the rest of May without buying anything else, that won’t be such a big deal.
Haul-Viseart Minx-love this. Thanks for the review Christine
Weekend Plans-Enjoy the sun, do DHs bookkeeping and talk to my mom across the country
Favourite Gemstone-Sapphire
Yay! Love hearing that you’re having good luck with the Minx palette.
Haul: products from Yves Rocher’s Monoi range, the new shade of Clarins Lip Comfort Oil (at least that’s the one I hope I get! It’s called Red Berry but for some reason it’s named “Cherry” on Nordstrom’s website…).
Weekend plans: crepes, lots of crepes…. and I guess I’ll need to go running to burn them out! But it’s rainy here, for once.
Favorite gemstone: I also love opals, especially white ones.
I hope the right shade of Lip Oil is en route, lol! It’s so frustrating when names are off!
Such a cute video, and it got my kitty Pookies attention! He looks like one happy fella there! ?
Haul: Went to Sally’s to get my root dye and renew my membership card, they let me pick out a free lipstick or nail polish, I chose np, of course! Got a $5 coupon, too. So 3 new China Glaze np’s: That’s Shore Bright (vivid violet purple), Awakening (plum/ coppery duochrome), Pick Me Up Purple ( glitter). A new bottle of European Secret Rock Hard Nail Hardener. Another np @ Walmart: Sinful Kylie Gel Tech in Miss Chief ( palest purply pink). Got *this* close to getting UD Rush last night, but when I swatched it next to my MAC Mehr, they were identical in color with very different finishes, so I left it alone. I may still get Fiend, though, Idk?
Weekend plans: Hair ordeal and laundry. LOTS of laundry! Meeting on Sunday. Other than that, nothing planned.
Favorite gemstone: Ooooh, that’s tough! Because I love emeralds and diamonds, both. Probably diamonds by a hairsbreadth. Oddly, I own no emeralds, but a stone in the emerald family, aquamarine in a gorgeous ring that I never wear because it’s a bit OTT for here.
So funny — if I replay the video with sound, Mellan totally gets perked up and looks around for the toy.
Nice polish haul, Nancy!
I’m sorry you aren’t going to see your mom for Mother’s Day, Christine! I know it can be really difficult to live away from family. Hopefully you’ll get to see each other soon.
Haul: I haven’t been buying a lot lately, as I’ve been feeling pretty comfortable with my collection and thought it might be better to wait until companies start with their fall/winter releases* and holiday kits-this is from the last two weeks:
Nordstrom: When they were doing their sample bag with $130 purchase or whatever, I got Nars Audacious Lipsticks in Raquel and Brigitte and Charlotte Tilbury’s Filmstar Bronze and Glow. I can’t believe I waited so long to get the Filmstar Bronze and Glow-I’m not convinced that the bronze part is so much better than any other bronzer I have (although I do like it a lot and I think it works wonderfully with the highlight) but the highlight is everything I’ve always wanted from a highlight but never got. For whatever reason, I guess because my face is still quite youthful (without makeup most people peg me as being between 14-18, even though I’m going to be 25 next month) when I put most highlighters on my cheekbones I end up feeling like I’m looking into one of those circus distorting mirrors, like it’s clearly not my face. This highlighter doesn’t do that. I put it on and it’s like…it makes my face look like a better version of itself. So yeah, I’m really happy with it. As far as the lipsticks go, Brigitte works for me no problem, but Raquel is just light enough that it’s a “look” for me and not a go-to. Still like it though.
BeautyKind.us: I bought two Rouge Bunny Rouge Seas of Illumination Highlighting Liquids with a $50 off of $75 first purchase promo-Sea of Showers and Sea of Clouds. I would have gotten Sea of Tranquility, but it was sold out. I’ve been wanting these forever, hopefully to use as added illumination to liquid foundation. I love both of the colors.
Lancôme: Color Design Eyeshadow 6 Pan in Jungle Pop. For whatever reason the colors in this palette look totally different on the Lancôme site than they do in person (not a problem I usually have on my computer), so I didn’t realize that two of the browns were actually greens until I had it in front of me. It’s a surprisingly versatile palette, even with all the colors having some shimmer to them.
And for a random one, a lady on a facebook buy sell trade site I’m on posted a Marc Jacobs Style Eye-Con No.7 The Parisienne for $20 and I snatched it right up. The lady I bought it from got it as a gift but only used it once because she doesn’t wear makeup often. It’s basically new-hardly even looks touched, so yay!
I feel like I’m forgetting something, but I have no idea what.
*At the rate things are going, I’ll probably only have to wait until July/August for that, right?? Lol.
Weekend Plans: Attempt to write out a meal plan for the next week and go grocery shopping. Clean the upstairs. Keep reading Rae Morris’s book. I’m watching my neighbor’s cats again until Monday, so I’ll be doing that too.
Favorite gemstone: Amethyst!
It’s the only downside to moving out of state! Luckily, we are only one state away, so at least it isn’t across the country.
So glad that the highlighter is at least living up to the hype for you, Nicole! 🙂 I tend to use the bronzer with the highlighter as a blush or maybe lower as a contour.
That is good at least!
Thank you! =D I have used it as a contour (works nicely!), but I’ve never thought to use it as a blush-that’s a great idea! Thank you for mentioning it!
You got some really nice stuff for someone not really hauling! Glad the Tilbury duo worked for you. I wanted to love it but it pulled too dark for me to look natural. Great score on the MJ palette!
Lol, thank you. When I was writing it out it certainly didn’t seem like a low-buy. Technically the only thing I’ve bought in the last week was the Marc Jacobs palette-all the rest was from the week before and the week before that. It’s just been a matter of things getting delivered and me actually mentioning them.
Thank you! I’m sorry the Tilbury duo didn’t work for you! I hate it when that happens. Oh thanks! I was really surprised to find it.
Haul: I finally ordered a significant amount of Colourpop stuff! Haven’t been buying much makeup lately but I got Monster, Tonic, Get Paid, and Petit Four in the mail.
Weekend plans: road trip to visit some friends
Favorite gem: I like pearls if that counts!
Hope all the ColourPop goodies live up to the hype!
Haul:
*For Mother’s Day, hubby and the kids got me the Urban Decay Through the Looking Glass palette and lipsticks. I’m so relieved the shadows perform much better with primer, so I can wear them.
*CoverGirl Katy Perry Katy Kat Matte Lipstick in Cosmo Kitty and Kitty Purry. I returned them because of the horrible , storng perfume taste that never went away. Usually I can handle CoverGirl, but for whatever reason these were too much for me.
*Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Crave, Matte Stark Naked, Matte 1983, and Matte Menace.
*Notoriously Morbid eyeshadows (I had a 30% off code): Shallow End, Rictatorship, Suminaro, Alkali Lake Monster, Nearly Headless Nick, Pay What is Owed, Plant, Unicorn Horn, Billiwhack, Nothing is Trivial, It Can’t Rain All the Time, Degrees of Death and Virture, Authority Problem, Love What You Love, and See Me Now.
*Large Zpalette with Betty Boop and polka dots design (LE).
*Target: Nyx CC Cream in Green for Light to Medium, Pond’s Original Fresh Wet Cleansing Towelettes, and e.l.f. 2-Sided Cosmetic Pencil Sharpener.
*Some jewelry from The Bees Knees on Etsy. So cute!
Weekend plans: Celebrate Mother’s Day with hubby and the kids.
Favorite gemstone: Opal here, too. It’s my birthstone, and I love all the beautiful rainbow colors.
I love the way opal changes in the light! I wish it was my birthstone, haha 😉
Add the Sauce Box Temptation Palette. I got it on closeout for $15. Sooo pretty. That shipping was fast!
Haul: Laura Mercier Paint Wash Liquid Lip Color in Petal Pink and Golden peach
Weekend plans: Taking my mom her Mother’s Day gift tomorrow and not sure what else
Favorite gemstone: Morganite. I have earrings and a ring (purchased by me to me 🙂 ) that are rose gold and morganite. I will never get enough of it.
Have a great Mother’s Day 🙂
I love Morganite too! It is so perfect with rose gold ?
Haul: Real Techniques eye brush set
Weekend plans: stay with my sister-in-law to help with her boys. We’re going to a baseball game! See my mother-in-law and go to church. Oh and schoolwork 🙁
Favorite gemstone: I don’t have one! I don’t know anything about nice things lol
Have fun at the game 😀
Haul: I went into 3ina to replace my eyeliner pen and came out with an extra unplanned highlight (201), 2 eyeshadows (107 and 105) and a lipgloss (114) – they were doing a deal where you spend £20 and get a free lipgloss so I just got consumed in the novelty and bought things. I also popped into the bodyshop to replace my skincare holy grails and picked up their reformulated lip and cheek stain (bright peony).
Weekend plans: Revision grrrr finals are just around the corner. I also have a package to look forward to, some korean skincare items from beautynetkorea 😀
Favorite gemstone: Onyx 🙂
3ina? I have not heard of that store/brand before!
They’re a fairly new brand and they only have stores in the UK and Greece but I really like them so far 🙂
It reminds me of Kiko cosmetics a lot.
Pronounced Mina, the 3 is actually a M sideways. It’s new to the UK, I’ll have to have a look!
Haul: Some Revlon Lip Butters (I read here, I think, that they’re being discontinued though it sure didn’t look that way), Rimmel Clear Lip Liner, Clinique Super Defense SPF face cream, Vichy Body Milk and another Konjac cleansing sponge (the Quo ones that cost a fraction of the price of the Boscia ones). I also ordered my own Mothers Day Gift from Sephora but technically, I don’t have that yet….
Weekend plans: Dunno – have to see what the family has planned. Hopefully I’m over my TWO colds soon (yes, I had a cold and it hadn’t gone away and still I got ANOTHER ONE!)
Favourite gemstone: sapphire, followed by ruby; I like them both even better when they’re channel set and offset with diamonds!
I have heard a few times that the Lip Butters have been discontinued, but it is always hard to tell!
Have a great Mother’s Day, Mariella!
Feel better!!
In three stone style. Yeah, classic. I like the reverse types, two colored with a central diamond. Doesn’t mean I’ll ever have one, but…
Cute!
haul: Just Chanel Le Beiges foundation for me this week. Still hanging onto the low buy!
weekend plans; Going to Louisville, Ky for a Derby party..KY tradition!
Favorite gemstone; My birthstone is amethyst . So naturally , I’ll go with that one! 🙂
Happy weekend!
How do you like Les Beiges?
I love it! It sets quickly and doesn’t need powdered much. It’s also more buildable than I expected and looks like skin. Really beautiful summer foundation ! ☺️
Wow, awesome job on the low buy! I’m impressed! How’s the new promotion going?
Thanks Katherine! The job is great! But, I’m so busy I can barely think lately! Oh well, I’m sure the dust will settle soon. We’re trying to move this summer too. So, I need to thin the stash anyway. How are you ?
Glad to hear the job is going great! And maybe an upcoming move too? Wow, you must be crazy busy. I’m doing well, and busy too, between the job, the toddler, hubby, and the house. I can’t wait until I’m retired, and the kid’s out of college, but that won’t be for a long while, but staying busy sure makes the time fly!
What a cute puppy!!!
As far as what came, UD’s Alice Through the Looking Glass Palette, and a replacement of my CeraVie Eye Cream.
Still trying to get my hands on Too Faced’s Sweet Peach Palette.
Hope you can snag Sweet Peach, Debbie!
Haul: The past few weeks have been a mix of drugstore and luxury: Maybelline Color Tattoo Leather in Chocolate Suede and Creamy Beige (my new favorite slap-on-and-go eyeshadow), Dior Healthy Glow Awakening Blush (which has converted me to loving brighter, cooler blushes), Urban Decay Matte Revolution lipstick in Bittersweet, Sheer Revolution in Liar, and Original Revolution in Naked, and the YSL Oil-in-Stick lipstick in 47 Beige Blouse. That’s about a month’s worth of stuff.
Weekend plans: I really need to take it easy. I had a bit of a health scare on Wednesday, I ended up in the ER with severe chest pains (and there’s extensive family history of cardiac issues), luckily it was just inflamed muscles on my chest wall and nothing too serious but I can’t do any exercising or heavy lifting for a while, and it still really hurts. Also, my dad’s coming out to visit and we’re seeing the Paul Taylor Dance Company. We used to go see dance shows all the time but we haven’t in a few years, so I’m excited.
Favorite gemstone: As a geology student, they’re all fascinating in different ways! And of course they’re all so beautiful.
What are some of the more unique gemstones from your experience, Kat?
Oh yikes, take it easy Kat! Lucky nothing serious
I love UD’s Revolution in Naked; this is seriously the first nude lipstick I’ve ever loved. I couldn’t find it last week and I about lost my mind, lol.
I am sorry to hear you are not feeling well. Wishing you a return to full health ASAP.
Enjoy the dance show!
How ’bout something from the Burgess Shale? Another fossil source favorite. And let’s not forget the ammonites. For me, that stuff is far more interesting than precious stones. I have a small piece of fossilized turtle dung from China, that I have yet to get set. Talk about a statement piece! Exactly my comment to most things. Btw, you are quite the scholar, and your photos enlightening.
Mellan was really enjoying that toy. My cat was lying on my lap while the video was playing and she has lately really started to pay attention to TV and videos and actually follows the action with her eyes. She was mesmerized. He is quite the handsome fella.
Haul- Well, I had planned for my next purchase to be the Charlotte Tilbury Luxury Face Palette but then I saw the Chanel Spring/Summer line and my plans went out the window, at least for now. So I ordered the eyeshadow quad, one blush, both stylo’s and two nail polishes. I have also been using some samples of the Cle de Peau Beaute Moisturizer and have fallen in love with it but it is $595 for the jar, WOWZA!!! I have been looking for the ingredients because it must have unicorn tears and magic dust for that price. Much as I like it I am not even adding it to my wish list. I just have to stalk the Nordstrom, Saks, Bergdorf’s and Neiman’s sites and get all the samples available.
Weekend-I have serious housekeeping to do on Saturday and then brunch with my Mother on Sunday. She had serious brain surgery this past year and is doing amazingly well but will probably never fully recover. We all feel really blessed to have her and want to spend as much time with her as possible.
Gemstone-My birthstone is garnet and frankly I never really cared much for it and then about 15 years ago my husband at the time bought me a vintage garnet necklace and earrings. They are really stunning and the more that I wore them the more I came to appreciate them so I would have to say garnet, followed really closely by diamonds!
Have a lovely weekend and Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers out there.
Mellan has only met a cat once, I think, in person… but it was a kitten and largely ignored him, lol!
What do you like about the Cle de Peau moisturizer, Deborah?
Mellon is such a cutie playing with his toys. He still has a lot of puppy left in him.
Haul: New Milani lipsticks – Cinnamon Spice and Spliced Berries and an eye shadow in charcoal. Another bottle of Physicians Formula Argon Oil.
Weekend Plans: Yes, it must be very hard for both you and your mum to be so far away from each other.
We are going to have a brunch tomorrow with my family and then I am going for an afternoon tea with my daughter in laws family. We are all very close to each other. They are a great family.
Favourite Gemstone: It is interesting that you choose Opal Christine because that is an Australian gem. Yet very few Australians actually wear it. I like Sapphires the best.
Ooh, Spiced Berries! What a pretty shade.
Have a lovely weekend, Genevieve!
Mellan is enjoying himself, sweet boy!
Haul, nothing. Yay! I mostly manage to keep to my no-new-makeup promise, made only to myself, of course. Don’t want to answer to anyone else when I slip and fall for some gorgeousness.
Weekenplans, not sure some general declutter would be nice to get out of the way before summer.
Favourite gemstone, amethyst, it’s purple! Well most are 🙂
Good work on your no-buy, Helene 😀
Hah, I like the green ones of those, too. I think green amethyst is kind of ersatz: Heat treated stones that naturally were virtually clear. Color enhancement of semiprecious stones is virtually a given, and they don’t have to disclose it. It is especially true, when they want to enhance the contrast in a bicolored crystal, like watermelon tourmaline and ametrine. But I big love both of those, too.
Haul: Lancôme BIENFAIT UV SPF 50+ Super Fluid Facial Sunscreen, as I needed one that sat over my other skincare better than the Kiehl’s one and this one was recommended to me. We’ll see if I return it or not. But also why aren’t there more sunscreens with that level of SPF? SPF 30 is NOT enough. My dad also ordered me the Peter Thomas Roth Mask-A-Holic Kit as a “here’s something to think about that isn’t health related also are you okay” present. He’s cool like that.
Weekend plans: Recover from what the spinal surgeon told me? Possibly by crying and eating my weight in something. Also hanging out with the cats as they’ve been very supportive almost like they know what’s going on
Favorite gemstone: Opal is also definitely one of my favorites. I love any gems that diffract light like that. There are a ton of geologists in my family so I tend to have a handful of favorites at any one time, largely due to whatever dig/restoration/exhibit various extended family are on. I really, really love any gem that exhibits Asterism, which is where it looks like it has a shining star inside. If you google Star Sapphire gems you can usually see what I mean. Watermelon Tourmaline is cool because of the mutli-colored aspect, as are the types of Alexandrite which do so. I also have LOVED Tiger’s Eye since I was a kit, courtesy of my great-uncle bringing me back a small one he found on a dig in Western Australia. He was looking for fossils and found it along with some various ancient critters and polished it himself when he got back to the States. It’s not “perfect” like the stuff you buy as he did it himself, but that makes me love it even more. I have it on my bedside table and, as he passed away about a month ago after a long fight with a brain tumor, whenever I miss him it’s a good reminder that he left parts of himself with everyone he cared about.
I tend to go drugstore (Neutrogena) for higher SPF, which may be odd, but I find drugstore brands have a greater variety of higher SPF products for face and body! Plus, I never feel guilty using plenty!
Oh, no, Anne 🙁 I hope whatever news your surgeon gave you is something you can cope with. Hugs!
I will definitely have to swing by my local drugstore (though I wish we got CVS in Portland!) to check out their offerings. I used to use the Aveeno face one back in high school, and they probably have lighter, oil-free ones nowadays that would be good for over skincare (and cheaper!).
Thank you for your concern, Christine! It looks like I’m definitely having spinal surgery (again… though the last time I was a baby) but the guy we saw was talking about WAY more extensive stuff than we had been thinking, so we’re getting a second opinion as he was pretty scared of how malformed my spine is (join the club, bud) and he’s sending me to the head honcho of the pretty well-known OHSU Spine Clinic in town, who is a lot more experienced so will probably be less freaked out and likely have a slightly less terrifying plan in mind. I’ve just gotta process the whole thing. The cats help XD. And we’re looking into other states (mainly California which is where I had my operation at Stanford back in the day) that may have more focus on the whole spine surgery thing.
Fingers crossed that the second opinion is more helpful/at least makes things easier to approach and digest, Anne!
Thanks so much Christine!
Oh no, sorry to hear you had bad news from the doctor 🙁 I’m keeping you in my thoughts. BTW, thanks for the recs on The Body Shop Soothing Aloe moisturizer products. I finally snagged a kit that included small samples of the Aloe Day Cream and Night Cream, finished both, and have re-purchased both in full size. The kit also came with full-size jar of the Aloe Mask, and I’ve been using it daily as an overnight cream, over my retinols/vitamin C serums. It’s very soothing and seals in all the moisture really well, even when we leave the heater on at night.
I’m glad those products worked out for you! They’re good in that they’re quality but also not as crazy expensive as a lot of skincare. And thank you for your well wishes!
Hey all!! Hope everyone had a fabulous week and has a great weekend!
Haul: Kevyn Aucoin Neo Bronzer in Capri…absolutely gorgeous, can’t wait to get Sienna too!!
Weekend Plans: My little one turns 5! Having a small get together for him with family and celebrating Mother’s Day 😀
Favorite Gemstone: Rubies
The bronzer looks gorgeous! Great to hear it is nice.
Happy birthday to your boy!
I just got some of the new sephora hand masks and some bits from the colourpop sale. This weekend I’m working and writing a paper 🙁 Aquamarine is my favorite!
Hand masks? Very i nteresting!
Haul: Lit Cosmetics Glitter in Champagne Wishes, Cher, Abba, Ella, Seeing Stars, Strawberry Angel, Lover Boy, Soul Sister and Fully Nude. And two glitter bases from Lit Cosmetics.
Weekend plans: Tomorrow my brother is making crepes and bacon for my mom and me for breakfast. Sunday I’m going to my sister’s where my whole family will be celebrating mother’s day and having brunch. Big family weekend.
Favorite gemstone: Opal! (my month!)
Love Lit Glitters! Really some of the best on the market.
I loved this glimpse into Mellan’s playfulness!
Haul: Tom Ford Rose Soleil & Bobbi Brown Pink Gold Shimmer lipsticks (both from browsing at a CCO)
Weekend Plans: enjoy the nice weather, pack away winter clothes, etc. and Spring cleaning in general.
Fave gem: I’m an April baby, so diamonds it is!
Nice finds at the CCO, Tracey!
I’m going to wish on the first blow-away dandelion for better health for all T readers. Pray, too.
That is a great idea 🙂
