Haul: Ulta really is testing my resolve today with emails for 50% products left and right lol
Weekend plans: Prom dress shopping for my sister today, NYC tomorrow, Art museum Sunday and hopefully I can fit sleep in there somewhere lol
What’s your decor style?: I would probably say my style is minimalist. I don’t like to see clutter, but I also like things to be pretty

Katherine T. Avatar

Mellan looks deep into some serious thought over there…..hmmmm, should I go for the doggie snack or doggie toy? To snack or play, that is the question……

It’s such a crazy busy week, that I haven’t even swatched 10% of the stuff that poured in, but so far my faves are the MJ Eyeliner in Peridot and the YSL lipstick in Orange Impertinent ( the gold filigree packaging is so luxe, and the orange color is really pretty, bright but sheer enough to give a stained glass effect, perfect for summer. It does have a tropical fruit scent, and I’m normally not a fan of fragrance in lippies, but it reminds me of a tropical vacation, so I’m good) . But I’ll be playing with stuff this weekend, so I’m sure there will be more favorites!

Katherine T. Avatar

Nancy, MJ Peridot is stunning and so hard to dupe, a must-have in my opinion. YSL Orange Impertinent is a chameleon -it’s swatches as a glossy orange on my hand, but it has a semi-translucent ” stained glass” quality, so it allows some of my natural lip (pink) color to peek through. So on my lips, it looks totally different, like a medium peachy -pinky melon, very brightening, goes well with MAC Spring Flock blush. There’s 30 shades on Sephora’s website, including many other oranges and orange reds. Because of the stained glass quality, I think each shade can look different depending on your natural lip color, but yeah perfect for a juicy look during the summer, and the formula is light, but drenches my lips with moisture, 65% oils per Sephora website. I want to try more, maybe a fuchsia pink for summer, but they are $37 each (yikes!) but you get .15 oz vs. standard .10-.12 oz for most lippies, so not bad at all. They don’t last that long, but it’s easy to re-apply, and the luxe packaging makes me want to whip it out just to re-apply LOL. I’m trying to hold off until next 20% off Sephora sale, but we’ll see……

Katherine T. Avatar

Agree, it’s stunning!! Definitely a bold one, but so beautiful, can see why everyone raves about it. I was planning to pass, since I already have Revlon Ultra HD Lip Lacquer in Pink Ruby, but after Firebird went on sale during the Sephora sale, I couldn’t resist anymore!

Hey Christine and TGIF! You reminded me when you mentioned hauling Sephora eyeshadows that Sephora has added another “Filter” palette to their line-up. You had reviewed the Overcast and Sunbleached palettes when they came out back in July. I had purchased both of those, so — no surprise! — I purchased the newest one called Vintage. The colors are very pretty but I’ve not had a chance to wear them yet since I got it yesterday.

Lauren Avatar

I recently picked up Armani’s CC cream and I am IN LOVE with it. I can’t stop looking in the mirror when I have it on because my skin looks SO GOOD. Nordstrom just released Guerlain’s Pause d’Ete bronzer, which I pounced on. And I ordered one of the By Terry Sun Designer palettes because the reviews/swatches are pretty awesome. Come on, summer!!

Lauren Avatar

very light-it’s the first cc cream/tinted moisturizer I’ve tried (although I haven’t tried tons) that doesn’t still look like makeup. My skin is pretty good and most days all I need is something to even out the tones. But there’s something in it that just gives a radiance without being obvious.

I also forgot to mention I picked up an Urban Decay concealer, which for my under eye area is awesome. Like, throw-out-my-other-concealers awesome.

Haul:
Lord & Taylor (10% Off): Borghese Fluido Protettivo Advanced Spa Lift for Eyes, Four-Piece Intensive Age-Defying Skincare Set, and 4 Piece Borghese GWP (I went back and bought back-ups since the set price was less than the price for 1 item in the set!)

Target: Defy & Inspire Nail Polish (Stagecoach and Top Model), 2 Defy & Inspire Nail Files (Free)

TJ Maxx: Borghese Gel Delicato Gentle Makeup Remover (Less than 50% off regular price!)

Weekend plans: I’m off work today (YAY) to attend a continuing ed webinar. Then lunch with my daughter. Tomorrow I promised my daughter I’d go with her to the car dealer so she didn’t have to sit there for hours alone. Always, weekend mani. I may do a pedi too bc there’s hope the weather is warming up finally. Plus writing reviews for my blog…probably some of the Kat Von D stuff, a Lancome eyeshadow pencil, and some lippies.

What’s your decor style?: Modern/contemporary. Most of my rooms (master suite, living room, home office, kitchen, bathrooms) follow the theme of white, gray, black with touches of red. I do have 2 rooms that are traditional (for guests) which are tan, ivory with sage accents with cherry furniture.

KJH Avatar

You found the Borghese! Excellent. Is it as good as I remember? Loved PMB in the nineties, and their artist, too, whom I recognized 20 years later, out of context. He was absolutely thrilled. Thanks for linking your blog…I’ll be there this w/e.

KJH Avatar

He expects to have some level of recognition, ’cause he’s fairly well known in community theatre, but not as a MUA. I knew him at Bloomie’s, Dior, and later Borghese. Said he’s with Chanel now. Reminds me how much big box m/u stores have eaten into m/u $ for me. I’m never at the counters.

Laura Avatar

I couldn’t resist some of the new Colourpop releases, especially since I haven’t tried the Satin liquid lipsticks. Picked up Spritz, Naked Ladies, Dopey, and Molly plus Topanga lippie stix, lippie primer, and Flower Shop eyeshadow. I think I’m set for spring/summer shades and new products in general for a while!

KJH Avatar

Haul: S came. Liked KA Bloodroses lip and cream cheek. Thanks, Paula’s for my skin not eating cream blush. Besame Cherry Red, UD Bad Blood: all good. Now to the unacceptable: Touch in Sol liners. Think there’s a QC or bad batch issue. Reviews are polarized. Colors are great, but what was I thinking, given CP? Thought the liners might be good, given the Stretchex masc. but dry, almost not apply-able. Of 3, orange was fair, but the built-in sharpener went cockeyed and you can’t put the cap back on. Lilac doesn’t show on coolish me or on Asian, by report. Didn’t bother with the aqua, to even take it out of the package. Epic fail. U: thank you to readers who said their gel liners were good. Got some in the 21 days, and another in the 20% sale. Got 2 Fiona Stiles liners. Easy app, good longevity. The taupe ‘dries’ somewhat warmer and darker than the lay down, which is disappointing. The slightly metallic dark teal is natch more emollient than the matte taupe. They aren’t runny, but can smudge out, esp. the metallic. Not drop dead wonderful, but a good addition.
Plans: SSDW, work, dog, put away winter clothes. Marathon Monday! Used to live on the route. Now i have very mixed feelings and some anxiety about it. The DOT is forbidding all kinds of coolers, containers, backpacks….with good reason. My town lost a summer cop, who was working at MIT. Terrorism is the scourge of our age.
Decor? Change it seasonally. Dark red in the winter and sea blues/greens in the summer. That goes down to the canisters, China, linens, flatware, etc not just the rugs and lr stuff. And I have a short Xmas tree on a table that changes about 6 times a year. The summer tree is spectacular, with sand castle, fishing boat, glass octopus, crab, lobster, mermaid, lobster trap, seagull, etc. maybe I’ll skip to summer and delete spring flowers and patriotic. Feeling kind of done in. Maybe it’ll stay bare for now, with Easter put away. So, I guess the ‘style’ is eclectic. Have a lot of Asian pieces that I love, including some that my grandparents got in the 30s: framed textiles, carved camphor wood chest, ceramics, jade work. I bought 2 carved teak chairs on the eastern shore in the 80s, PRC, I believe. Guess I actually prefer Asian decor. LOVE Hokusai.

Christine Avatar

Lots of red, eh? Not a total surprise 😉

Not happy hearing the Touch in Sol liners were disappointing though. I’ve eyed them, but I haven’t pulled the trigger (I know it’ll take me awhile to get to review them).

Wow! You go all out with your decor. You should take pictures of your six trees 😉 I love the idea of a tree decorated by holiday/season year-round.

KJH Avatar

Yeah, back in the counter days, the SAs would get out all the Reds, when they saw me coming. Nars and Fresh, especially. I liked old Fresh, with the original owners: l/s,blush, shadow. Now, I never look at it. Fresh had a couple of puce shades that can’t be duped. Oh, well. Just about everybody can do a good red variation, so I always have temptations.

Haul: Rimmel Radiance BB Cream in Medium, Rimmel Magnif’eyes Mono eyeshadow in Millionaire, elf cream eyeshadow in Cruisin’ Chic, Too Faced Sweet Peach palette, Sephora Baby Z Palette, deluxe sample of Tarte Smooth Operator loose powder

Weekend plans: Visit family in Virginia for my nephew’s birthday. Christine, you seem to go to the farmer’s market a lot. What do you like to see/do there?

What’s your decor style?: All over the place. I like a little bit of everything, but I also like order and symmetry. I don’t like haphazard gallery walls or cheesy factory decor everywhere. I like intentional and personal pieces displayed decoratively with lots of whitespace. I like a mix of rustic country and modern simplicity.

Joyce Avatar

Basically, I like simple, comfy, and welcoming. I’ve been in absolutely gorgeous homes but fear breathing because the likes of me might ruin the sophistication of it all 😛

Christine Avatar

You have a really great sense of style, I think, Joyce! 🙂

Mostly, we grab local pasta these days. On occasion, maybe bread for the week or a pastry. The one thing that’s interesting (to me) about Arizona farmers’ markets is that there is a lot less fruit/vegetable stands (one or two larger stands) – and in California, there would only be one or two stands for hot food or the like.

Joyce Avatar

Wow, thank you. That’s a very kind thing to say 🙂

Oh wow that’s interesting! I was thinking the same things. I read in blogs and Pinterest and life in general about how awesome farmer’s markets are but like :/ the ones I know are… ok. Like a bunch of expired personal care/cosmetics and maybe some vegetables?

I want to go to an actual market where farmers sell their stuff! Lol. What are the local pastas like? Have any favorites? I looooooooove pastas and breads and pastries. I love warm, soft, savory food, lol.

Tracey E. Avatar

Joyce, you need to visit Madison, WI to see a large scale farmer’s market held on ‘the Capitol Square’ – the 4 blocks that surround the State Capitol. It’s a ritual here eventhough there are smaller farmers markets nearby if you don’t want to ‘shuffle’ around the Square. You shuffle because so many people are there, especially at the height of the growing season. Chefs routinely visit this market for seasonal and locally-made products that they take back to use in their restaurants. ‘Food miles/eating locally sourced food is big here. Off the Square are attists selling all sorts of goods. There’s a 4 block pedestrian/bicycle/transit corridor that the connects the University to the Square and it’s great to watch people flow up and down the street, some with baskets filled with good or bouquets of flowers or people hanging out on a patio. It’s pretty special to see if you’re ever in the area. You, too, Christine!

Nancy T Avatar

In the past 2 1/2 years living in Scottsdale, I keep hearing different people talking about the Farmers Market, but I still have no clue whatsoever where it’s located, except that it is *somewhere* in Old Town Scottsdale? Which for me is a short trolley ride away. FYI, Everyone; the Trolleys are actually BUSES here in SD!!! ?

Joyce Avatar

By the way, I love when a doggie’s ears are flat like that. I call them “Dorito ears” 😛 My dog’s ears rarely naturally lay like that. They’re always folded to the sides like Dobby the House Elf 😀

Nicole Avatar

That sounds like such a fun weekend, Christine! I hope it’s a great one for you!

Haul: I got my Minx and Chroma Viseart palettes in this week. They are really so great-even prettier in person, I think. I actually put the two lighter matte shades and the lightest shimmer shade from Minx on my eyes today and freaked out a little at my judgment because I got up really early and orange-ish colors are usually not best on me when I look tired, but I took a bunch of selfies (lol) and the colors actually look really nice. It amazes me how Viseart manages to create shades that look “wow” but not overwhelming.

Sephora: I ended up ordering the Viseart Cashmere palette on the last sale day (getting it today!) and 2 of the L’Occitane 5.2oz Shea Butter Hand Creams (I had a really terrible allergic reaction to another lotion a few weeks ago that left my hands painfully dry and cut up in places, and they weren’t healing well over a course of 2-3 weeks-this hand cream fixed them completely with a few applications).

Lancôme: I redeemed my points for Le Crayon Khols in Moss and Black Coffee.

Birchbox: Benefit Cheekathon Blush Palette. I didn’t have any of these and was able to get $10 off with Birchbox points. I love this palette so much!

Zulily: Ciate London x Olivia Palermo The Smouldering Eye Palette and The Cheekbone Cheat Duo in Bluff Point and Seaside Park.

I’m also expecting my Viseart Ribbons Boheme palette today. I’m really nervous because I have to sign for it and I found out last night that I have to be away from home for a bit around 1pm. My FedEx guy gets here at any time between 11am and 4pm, so I really hope I don’t miss him.

Weekend plans: I may go to Sephora and Ulta. I have a few things I need to return and one I need to exchange. I’ve been putting it off because I would have to use Uber to get there and I’ve never used that service before. I’m a little uncomfortable with it, but I’m thinking I need to get over that. Other than that, nothing! Well, except maybe grocery shopping.

What’s your decor style?: Eclectic, definitely. I tend to bring whatever I like in my home and make it work. For instance, I’m currently using a 5 foot tall, three tiered metal outdoor planter as a produce holder in my kitchen. I love bright colors, some antique furniture, having lots of wall art up, things that don’t really look like they belong together. There’s really no one who walks into my home without commenting on it, but that’s ok-it wouldn’t really be my home if it wasn’t a little bit weird.

Nicole Avatar

I knew I was forgetting something! I placed an order with Kiehl’s-Super Multi-Correcting Eye Opening Serum and a cranberry scented lip balm. I also got 5 deluxe samples (Rosa Arctica, Cranberry Seed Masque, Pollutant Pure Masque, Powerful Wrinkle Reducing Eye Cream and Super Multi Correcting Eye Opening Serum) and 3 regular samples (Powerful Wrinkle Reducing Crème, Cranberry Seed Masque and Iris Extract Activating Treatment Essence). I had a sample of the Multi-Correcting Eye Serum and loved it, so I knew I had to get a full size. And the sample will be great for travel.

Nicole Avatar

Thank you, Christine!

Thank you for letting me know! My landlady’s daughters have also used Uber and like it-I don’t know why I feel so apprehensive when I keep hearing good things about it. I’m not good with a lot of new experiences though, so that’s probably it.

Julia Avatar

I just got my Cashmere palette today as well, Nicole- it’s beautiful! I am jealous that you are getting the Ribbons palette. It looks so pretty but I wear neutrals 99% of the time so I could never justify the purchase. Please tell us how you like it!!

Nicole Avatar

The Cashmere palette is gorgeous! It really is a great choice. Can you believe Cashmere and Minx are already sold out on Sephora?

Lol! I understand that-I think a lot of people feel the same way. I mentioned to Katherine T. below that these colors can be sheered out to look more wearable, but they are still true to color (just, you know, more subtle) so if you wear neutrals most of the time it probably wouldn’t be worth it. I tend to do the opposite, where I go to do my makeup intending to be all neutral and I walk away looking like a confetti birthday cake, so this palette was kind of a no-brainer for me. Although, for anyone who is wanting to incorporate a little more color into their look I think this palette is amazing-I’ve only used it once and it’s already one of my favorite Viseart palettes.

I will, thank you!

Julia Avatar

oh my gosh, your confetti birthday cake comment makes me laugh! I feel like that’s how I am with highlighters, and really shimmer in general. I start in thinking I’m just going to do a “natural glow” but then I keep adding more ’til I sparkle like a christmas tree. Whatever makes a girl happy, right? 🙂

Claire L Avatar

What do you think of Bluff Point? I haven’t got Seaside Park, but I do love Bluff Point! I’m actually wearing it today, it’s perfect because I have a cold so look tired and washed out, and this helps perk me up and bring a little warmth and colour to my face!

Nicole Avatar

I absolutely love it! It’s the only one of the two that I’ve tried so far. It’s such a beautifully wearable duo, isn’t it? The pink is such a wonderful shade-it really makes my cheeks pop without being unnatural in any way, and I love the shade of the bronzer. I’m glad it’s working so well for you! I hope your cold goes away soon!

Nicole Avatar

Seaside Park is really pretty too. I haven’t worn it yet, but I think if Bluff Point works for you, Sunset Park will work for you also. The bronzer is just a bit darker and the blush is more of a coral, but neither are overwhelming (I’m sorry if you already knew that, lol). I hope it does also! Oh gosh, Paris, that sounds SO amazing. I hope you have a lot of fun!

Claire L Avatar

Haha, I do that all the time, get names mixed up! I had a look at the Ciaté website and Seaside Park does look lovely. I think I discounted it out of hand because I thought it’d be too dark/warm for me. I actually got Bluff Point from TKMaxx for a bargain, maybe I can find Seaside Park another time! We’re looking forward to going to Paris, I just hope things are quiet while we’re there!

Katherine T. Avatar

Oh Nicole, can you let me know how you like the Viseart Ribbons Boheme palette once you get it? Super curious, and it’s LE too. Thanks!

Nicole Avatar

I’d be happy to! You’re welcome!

I honestly don’t know if I am going to get it today now-it’s weird, because I got a text from FedEx last night that I had a package coming today that needs to be signed for (it could only be the palette), but when I look on the tracking it says it’s still in a different state. So it may not be until tomorrow or Monday, but whenever I do get it I’ll let you know!

Nicole Avatar

Hi Katherine T.! I got my palette in yesterday but didn’t get a chance to play around with it until today. So basically I love it, lol. I used six shades on my eyes today. The first thing I would say about the palette is that there is virtually no fall out. I did my eye makeup before my face makeup as I always do in case of fallout and I didn’t have to clean up after at all.

The second thing I would say is that although these colors look super bright in pan and can go on very bright and bold, they can be sheered down to be a more wearable, calmer version of themselves. Actually last night I watched a review on YouTube by a woman named Megan Jones-I watch a lot of her reviews since she has a different eye shape/does her eye makeup differently, as far as I can tell doesn’t use filter or that white light (or whatever it is that makes all makeup look fabulous) and is in a different age bracket than most people on YouTube, so she has a different perspective I think. She did a really pretty, sheered out eye look without a primer, using the copper, two darkest blues and the silver. It’s worth checking out if you want to see live swatches, but also just to see how wearable these colors can be.

With the eye look I did, I chose to use them over a light peach from the Matte Neutrals palette to make them a bit brighter. I also used the same peach color as a transition shade and a darker brown for some under eye definition, but other than that I used only shades from this palette. I did something similar to Megan where I used the blues in the crease and under the eye, silver on the inner corner and copper on the lid, but I changed it up and did the darker burgundy color on the outer third of the lid and the bright yellow on the inner third. All that to say that they layer well over each other, they don’t muddy up when you layer or blend, I didn’t use a primer (just the peach shade underneath) and they’re super bright and just…stunning. I look like I have a sunset on my eyes, basically.

I absolutely recommend this palette if color is something you like to wear. I mean, the odd thing is that in the palette they look kind of OTT and I think that has a lot of people saying no (and they can be really bright, as my eye look attests to), but they’re so versatile that you can really manipulate the brightness but you still get the true color even when it’s sheered out. That kind of amazes me. I hope I didn’t leave out anything you were curious about-if I did, let me know!

Katherine T. Avatar

Nicole, thanks so much for your thoughts on Ribbons Boheme!! Yes, I’ve seen Megan Jones before, and will definitely watch her video. Great to know this is a high quality palette, because it’s SO hard to get bright colors right. And that they can be sheered down without any problems, that definitely makes it more versatile and justifiable. Darn, I should’ve probably grabbed this during Sephora sale! It’s LE (why??), so will have to think fast, but thanks again for your thoughts, very helpful!

Nicole Avatar

It is a really beautiful palette. Not true that you can only do really subtle looks with it either. I did a really rich dark blue smoky eye with it recently that I adored. Oh gosh yes-they have so much. Makeup, skin care, hair care, occasionally vitamins and supplements, as well as furniture and décor, etc. I’ve even seen plants on there. Like, already living, ready to be planted, plants. It’s a pretty good site and their discounts are better than most I’ve seen. I got the palette for $12 less than retail and the bronzer/blush duos for $10 below retail each. So, a really good deal.

Julia Avatar

Haul: UD Gwen blush palette, UD Gwen eyeshadow palette (found a good deal on eBay, couldn’t resist), and I should see my Viseart Color Theory in Cashmere arrive today!
Weekend plans: Weather is going to be AWESOME this weekend, so I am going to fight off the weeds from my garden beds (can’t plant yet) and we are going for to take the pups to a forest preserve nearby. And definitely grill out on Sunday!
What’s your decor style?: I would say modern rustic? We have a lot of acacia wood furniture and black metal accents going on and I love it.

Julia Avatar

Just came home to Cashmere – pictures don’t even do it justice, it is so gorgeous! 6 little pans of perfection 🙂 I think this is going to be an absolutely ideal palette for work travel (and of course great for everyday use as well!).

Haul: Loving MAC Cosmic Force and Nuanced MSF. Returning MAC Otherearthly because in the sunlight it looks too sparkly, and I like Nuanced better. Also returning Hourglass Ambient Lighting powder in Diffused Light. It was my first time trying one. I know it’s supposed to be a subtle product, but I just couldn’t consider it a “must have.” It did give a little glow, but nothing better than my Wet n’ Wild Reserve Your Cabana. I may try another in the future. Maybe Ethereal would make more of a difference on my pale skin.

Weekend plans: I have a birthday party every other week this time of year. Birthday, birthday, birthday, Mother’s Day, birthday, Father’s Day lol.

What’s your decor style?: Eclectic. I love bright colors.

Haul: Husband and I went to Chicago for our 26th wedding anniversary. I knew my MAC skin tone had changed, so I was very happy to get updated. I am not NC37; I am now NC30! While I was in the MAC store I picked up the foundation brush #170, as well as the single eye shadows pantina and expensive pink. I used the foundation brush for the first time this morning and I was pleased with the results!

My Chicago “beauty excursions” we’re primarily focused on foundation. Since my skin tone has changed so much this year, I felt like nothing was matching. Plus I wanted to try some new formulas. We went to Michigan Avenue (the Magnificent Mile) specifically so I could be matched in person in the Giorgio Armani foundation that is so popular but I cannot remember the name at this moment. I also purchased the Giorgio Armani primer and foundation powder. I got matched in La Mer’s foundation as well, and my husband bought it for me as an anniversary gift. Last but not least, I got matched in the RIGHT color for Nars Luminous Foundation, which I love! Husband bought me the Nars Mati Hari blush and Larger Than Life Lipgloss in Oceur Secre. I cannot tell you how lovely Nars audacious lipstick in Angela looks when topped with the Oceur Secre lipgloss! I just swoon when I use this combo. I also picked up Audacios Listick color Anna, which I recommend that everyone stop what you’re doing and check this color out! It’s a very nice neutral that I know I will wear often as a go-to color on days when I am not in the mood for bright colors.

Speaking of bright colors, I went into Sephora and asked an associate to put me in a coral lip color. I love bright colors but even I balked when she pulled out Bite Beauty’s high pigment lip pencil in Zinfandel. Husband loved it and I had strangers stop me to tell me how pretty this color looked on me, so the next day I went back to Sephora and bought it!

Weekend plans: Smoking again (meat that is). We put a pork roast in the smoker this morning, and it will be ready when I get home from work tonight. We will have our Friday movie night, Saturday gym and more cooking, and Sunday I will be working at the cosmetic counters (my second job).

Decorating? Ha! I have no decorating style or talent! I guess make up is where my creativity begins and ends.

Claire L Avatar

May I ask why your skin colour has gotten lighter? Sounds like you had a lovely time visiting foundations and makeup, I’d love to get MAC Expensive Pink and BB Zinfandel ?.

Tammy B Avatar

I get very dark quickly if I get any sun exposure. When I was a child growing up by the beach everyone thought I was from a dark-skinned ethnic background because I would get so dark in the summer. Over the past year I have gone out of my way to be better about protecting my skin from the sun.

In past, I would apply sunscreen only to my face, not my neck (was lazy), but after realizing my face was getting 2-3 shades lighter and no foundation was ever going to look right because it didn’t match my neck , I started applying to my neck. My neck is still naturally darker, but difference isn’t so bad now.

That dog is too cute!! Love that pic.

I recently bought two Amuse Bouche lipsticks from Bite (Pickled Ginger and Spritzer) and they are amazing!! I love them but man I do NOT need any more lip products. So just the two for me…

weekend plans: homework and lots of sleep

decor style: dorm chic? I could use some help there…

Haul: Tom Ford Orchard Haze Quad, Tom Ford Lip Shine SS16, Tom Ford Frantic Pink & Savage blushes, Tom Ford Bronze Age & Ultra Shine Lip Color in Aphrodite, Tom Ford Fire Lust, L’Oreal Visible Lift Blush in Peach Gold Lift, Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche in Meringue & Sorbet, Tarte Tartelette Tease palette (my credit card and bank account HATE me)
Weekend plans: Laundry, cleaning, makeover at Nordstroms on Monday (day off for me)
What’s your decor style?: I don’t really have one

Tracey E. Avatar

That picture of Mellan is sooooo sweet!

Haul: Tom Ford cream/powder eyeshadows, Bicoastal & Afternooner palettes, Pink Sand cream blush; MAC Finally Free lipstick, Clinique redness solutions pressed powder.

Weekend Plans: Enjoy summer-like weather and find a patio!

Decor style: I’m not great at this, so I tend to buy what’s in the showroom or have someone help me put a look together. (With outfits, I’m a ‘buy the mannequin’s look’ kind of shopper. Ha!)

Grace Avatar

Awww your puppy photos are the cutest!!! I know he’s not a puppy per se, but he still looks like one ^^
I snagged the UD Gwen liner in Ex-Girlfriend. I was surprised to see it on the Canadian Sephora Sale page, since that page is usually tumbling weeds lol. I did wonder why the liner costs more than the lipstick.
It’s my sister’s birthday so we are celebrating tomorrow, and finally Spring is here to be able to enjoy it outside. And finally can start to wear spring makeup colours, since it seemed a bit off when I tried to wear lilacs or corals when it’s all dark and grey. And I totally echo being inept in decorating, there’s Ikea for a reason haha

Kat Avatar

I was surprised to see it on sale at all! I feel like, at least on Sephora, stuff like that rarely goes on sale unless it really flops. I feel like it got a lot of hype (at least the two palettes did), but maybe their sales weren’t as good.

Mariella Avatar

Haul: I went a bit mad this week: Soap and Glory Sugar Crush Body Wash and Sugar Scrub; Clarins, Ombre Iridescente cream to powder eyeshadow in Silver Green (I knew it was only a matter of time and SDM’s bonus points redemption was all the incentive I needed); Indeed Labs Facial Exfoliator Powder; Avene Cold Cream bar soap; Jouviance 3-in-1 Anti Age Lotion (I think it used to be called “Complexe Magistrale”) which came in a bonus pack with large sample/travel sizes of their cleansing milk, eye serum and Collagen Boost); two Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire lip things – not sure if they’re a lipstick or a gloss but to me they seem half way between – in the shades Red Cape and Magenta Gloves. They’re lovely but I am glad I got them with points as they’re neither very long wearing nor pigmented but they are nice; some Avene spray Thermal Water. I think that’s it.

Weekend plans: trying to get over a really dreadful attack of vertigo. I have never felt so sick or been so incapacitated in my life! I want to go to the gym tomorrow but might give it a miss. I think the hubs and I will finally go out to see My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 (or whatever it’s called) tomorrow night

Decorating style: Is “eclectic” a style? Most of our furniture is fairly classic/conservative but we have some sentimental/nostalgia pieces and pottery made by our kids when they were in middle school thrown in for good measure. And flowers…they don’t have to be fancy but I love having fresh flowers in the house no matter what the season and especially toward the end of winter, when a few bunches of tulips scattered around really cheer me up.

Mariella Avatar

Thanks, Christine. I’m feeling SO much better than when this first happened. My husband wanted to take me to hospital but I honestly couldn’t even contemplate how I’d get from the sofa to the front door; by the 2nd day, I realized I had to get there somehow and after they whacked me up with a massive dose of Gravol via injection, a lot of the horribleness subsided but I’m still not very steady on my feet! Oh – I forgot one thing from my haul – a tube of Bert’s Bees Shea Butter Hand Cream. One of my son’s friends was applying some in my car a few weeks ago and I was just aware of this lovely smell. She told me what it was and I was determined to get some. Mine doesn’t smell nearly as nice as hers did, though.

Tammy B Avatar

Vertigo is no joke. I injured my neck in a yoga pose about three years ago; I had incapacitating vertigo for 11 weeks and have had residual small episodes of vertigo ever since. I hope yours resolves very quickly and never comes back!

Mariella Avatar

Tammy, thank you so much for the good wishes. I’m so much better than I was 5 or 6 days ago but I think I will be keeping Gravol on hand for a long time (in my purse, at work, etc.). It’s funny – I had an episode of BPPV (a positional vertigo) that developed right at the end of a yoga class about 2 years ago….just coming up from savasana. I didn’t know what the heck was happening as the room was spinning in all directions but I was only about 6 inches off the floor. I was afraid I was having a stroke at first. It was mild; no nausea or anything, and I had it adjusted by my physiotherapist. But this one last week – oh, lord, I was really sick for 2 days and I’m slowly getting better. Anyway, thanks for replying and for the good wishes. It’s funny – since this happened I’ve heard from several people who’ve either experienced it themselves or had a family member be hit with it. YUCK!

Kimberly Avatar

Haul: Pulled the trigger when I found a brand new and unused UD Revolution Mrs Mia Wallace lipstick in a seller’s listings this week! I really didn’t need another red lipstick but it was cheaper than retail price, brand new, and I’ve been wanting MMW ever since I watched Pulp Fiction last year and found out that I missed the UD Pulp Fiction collection. I even emailed my local Urban Decay store about if they still carried MMW but they just said no, and that Bad Blood was a dupe for it (I despise the UD matte lipsticks… something about how they seem to attract dust and hair in every tester I see just grosses me out).
Weekend plans: Finishing up the last of my assignments this semester!
What’s your decor style?: Everything but the kitchen sink! I have no style, just whatever makes me happy.

Alice Avatar

Haul: YSL “Black Opium” and TokyoMilk “Bulletproof” rollerballs, Kat von D “Raw Power” eye shadow, Smashbox insta-matte lipstick transformer. I also ordered a custom dress with a comic block print of Wonder Woman, Batgirl, and Supergirl 🙂

Weekend Plans: more bathroom renovations. Going to Milwaukee for a day trip and touring the Sprecher brewery.

Decor style: I really like Art Deco and Victorian Gothic, but every room in our house has a different theme. (like our living room is sports memorabilia…it’s funny when people call it a “man cave” and my husband corrects them that it’s all my stuff)

Kat Avatar

Haul: Bumble and bumble Surf Foam Spray Blow Dry, Living Proof Prime Style Extender (it sounds like a gimmick but it really works), Dr. Jart+ Every Sun Day UV Illuminating Sunscreen, Tangle Teaser hairbrush, MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA REPLICA Discovery Set (I adore their perfumes, but they’re SOOOO expensive). I also ordered the Dior Rosy Glow Healthy Glow Awakening Blush and the Bare Minerals Mineral Veil, but those haven’t arrived yet! I’m really excited for the blush; I’ve heard only rave reviews on it and I’ve been really into a healthy flush lately.

Weekend plans: Work. Work. Work. (Paper)work.

What’s your decor style?: Well, since I live in a dorm, I don’t really have one. But I love minimal kinds of decor, with light neutrals and lots of big windows, linen and cotton and all that goodness.

Kat Avatar

Oh wait, I also got Looxi eyeshadow in Cakeboy, it’s like a shimmery periwinkle. Over bare lids, it goes on more purple than it looks in the pan, so I’m going to try it over a white base. I kind of wish I’d gone for MUFE I212 Periwinkle, but when there’s a price difference of $15…

Kat Avatar

Oh, probably Tea Escape (described on Sephora as soothing citrus notes of bergamot, green tea, sambac jasmine, and crisped rice for a scent reminiscent of a traditional Japanese tea service). It has a similar feel to a floral or “green” scent, but it’s not boring or expected, it just has a little something else. What I love about these perfumes is that they don’t smell like perfume, they just smell good (as well as being long-lasting). But I do love the other two (Beach Walk – “fresh and radiant notes of bergamot, coconut milk, lemon, pink pepper, and musk to evoke a familiar but forgotten moment—a walk along a sandy beach” and Lazy Sunday Morning – “notes of lily of the valley, patchouli, iris, and white musk to recall a sun-drenched morning of relaxation”) as well.

Haul: I plan on making a purchase during Jeffree Star’s restock tomorrow, and I’m debating getting a few things from the Makeup Monsters restock today.

Weekend plans: nothing as of yet, except the dog park. It’s supposed to be ALMOST 80 (which, if you’re familiar with Chicago weather, is unheard of in April). I think our friends are coming over tomorrow but nothing is confirmed.

My decor style: geeky posters and bright colors. Kind of like how I dress and do my makeup lol

Chelan Avatar

Haul: Planning on picking up some of the Nyx Soft Matte Lip Creams later today!
Weekend Plans: Wedding planning with my fiance and hopefully some time outdoors
What’s your decor style?: I really like some of the more modern styles of furniture, like glass and metal and unusual shapes

Stephanie Avatar

It was a big week-
MAC-Finally Free lipstick, MSF in Perfectly Lit and Prolongwear concealer
Sephora-Burberry Summer Blush/Highlighter, Urban Decay singles in Lounge and Backfire, Clinique Pepstart for Eyes, new Becca Blush in Snapdragon, and an Urban Decay Wonderland lipstick on sale for $14.
Shopper’s Drug Mart- a couple of Lise Watier brushes (I love their brushes for the money)

KaseyKannuck Avatar

Haul: Mac lippies in Stone, Finally Free, All I Want, Evening Rendezvous and Halsey, Tarte Tartlette Tease palette, and Clinique Pretty Wow Pretty Now set.
Weekend plans: Work and a surprise party.
What’s your decor style?: Early clutter with accents of cat hair.

KaseyKannuck Avatar

I haven’t tried it yet. I’m not sure how I’ll wear it. Finally Free is so my colour that I haven’t tried any of the others yet ?

Haul: Sephora: Cover FX Custom Cover Drops and highlighter sticks in Bubbly and Celestial (may not keep Celestial because I think it’s pretty close to the Perricone highlighter which I already have and like), Becca Champagne Pop (which I’m also not sure about…thinking it might be too glittery), a Boscia moisturizer, two Marc Jacobs eyeliner sample kits (I’m a recent convert to the MJ eyeliners – they are amazing!), and Estee Edit makeup remover wipes and eye refresher (forget the exact name).
Ulta: Perfekt tinted primer (don’t like it, going back) and Tarte Lippie Lingerie in Envy.
I wanted to get Tom Ford Fire List and a Viseart eye palette during the Sephora sale, but it didn’t happen. Maybe next time.
I’ve also been buying a bunch of hair styling stuff to have fun with my new pixie cut.
Weekend plans: None!
Decor style: I’d call it eclectic glam. But our place is mostly decorated in a Mission style, because I moved into my husband’s condo and that’s how he had it.

Claire L Avatar

Haul: I’m on a low-buy so it’s just a few items this week. Max Factor Mastertouch concealer in Ivory, Nivea BB cream in Light, Powder Box Drawer. The latter is mostly skincare and haircare, but has Rimmel 24H Supercurler mascara.

Plans for weekend: My uncle and aunt go back home tomorrow and my mum and dad too. My fiancé and I will be getting ready to go to Paris on Sunday, can’t wait!

What’s your decor style? At the moment it’s a mixture of contemporary and old things as we can’t afford to update it. I like comfort and warmth so that takes priority, but I like to try and make it look good. I can’t do minimalism. My fiancé moved in with me, we have different tastes in art, he likes abstract and modern art, whereas mine is softer and either contemporary or ‘old’ art. I love colour so all the rooms have a colour scheme. The living room’s duck egg blue and browns; kitchen, sage green and cream; main bedroom, dark purple and off white; bathroom, light blue and light grey; nursery, light green and pale yellow.

Nancy T Avatar

Yes, he in deep thought! My one cat gets that facial expression, and I’m guessing she too, must be meditating on something important…. perhaps wishing she could get out and hunt lizards! ?

Haul: MAC So Select lipstick (GORGEOUS!), Simple Exfoliating Makeup Remover Wipes, 2 Sinful nail polishes in Kryptonite and Kommandi. And my Ipsy bag, which had a beautiful Tarts Lipsurgence in Wonder (at least that’s what I think it is), 2 Pur-lisse face masks that I’m dying to try, a super soft fluffy blush brush, and a few other things.

Weekend Plans: Going to a 1 day Assembly in Casa Grande tomorrow, so I gotta do my hair and nails today. Sunday: SLEEP!!! And perhaps hit the park later. I really just need to sit and look out on the water and relax. This past week has been stressful

What’s your decor style: Eclectic, but not entirely by my own volition! I happened to inherit some “too nice to toss” furniture when my Mom passed 9 years ago. But it does fit my taste because it has that modern, but not overly harsh looking aesthetic. Trying to save up for a brick red faux leather sectional or just a couch with the one end being a chaise. Purple is already in my bedroom and bathroom, red is in my kitchen. Those are two favorite shades of mine, along with dark wood.

Rachel R. Avatar

Mellan is definitely looking contemplative. 🙂

Haul: MAC — Lipsticks in So Select (Darker and browner than I was expecting, but still gorgeous); Caitlyn Jenner’s Finally Free (Freaking amazing!!! They nailed that one!); and Ionized (It’s much prettier in person than in pictures, IMHO. I’m glad I decided to go for it). Expensive Pink e/s refill. I still haven’t received Halsey. It was sent separately for some reason, and when I checked tracking last night, it claimed it was delivered on the 7th, but no one in my house has seen it. I wrote MAC, but I may end up having to rebuy before it runs out of stock. GRRRR! Sephora — I was good with the sale. I only got the Minnie Mouse lipstick and the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Palette (It’s darker overall than I was expecting, but it’s beautiful. The shadow formula definitely reminds me of MUFE. Now if Tarte would put out more colors…). All Cosmetics Wholesale — I used their customer appreciation sale to get OCC RTW Lip Tar in Wasabi and Rime; original packaging Lip Tar in Matte Rollergirl (it was only $3.25); and got Wet n Wild Color Icon Eye Shadow Single in Penny as a freebie. Macy’s — I used my gift cards to get UD Fireball Highlighter and Stila Eyes Are The Window Spirit Palette on sale for $24.50. Target — Real Techniques Cheek and Lip Brush Set, and Pacifica Dream Big Lash Extending 7-in-1 Mascara. If I end up being allergic, at least I have the cute unicorn packaging for my collection.

Weekend plans: I’m still pretty sick, though better than I was. Most likely I’ll try to catch up on some paperwork (there is always freaking paperwork), dishes and laundry (there is always freaking dishes and laundry).

What’s your decor style? Hmmm…world eclectic with whimsical touches? It’s (mostly) more sophisticated than my personal style, because my husband lives here, too. LOL My living room is deep red with dark woods, black metal & stone tile tables, and decor from or in the style of Asia and India. My office/dining/kitchen area is peach and stainless steel, with some European decor. My main bath has a sign saying “Science Lab” on the door, a periodic chart shower curtain, a haz-(shower)-mat, warning signs (“Don’t use this equipment without proper training,” “hazardous materials,” etc.), glow in the dark objects, and real beakers, flasks, etc. for hygiene items. My bedroom and en suite bath are teal and brown with florals and leopard prints. My makeup room is bright, crazy, and Alice in Wonderland themed. My younger son’s room is yellow & royal blue and devoted to Dr. Who and Daleks. My older son’s room is a mess, but I’ve promised to give it a goth makeover when he cleans and organized it.

Rachel R. Avatar

Thanks, Nancy! The science bathroom is the only one my husband took interest in decorating. lol

This bug is just lingering. I’ve been drinking lots of tea, but I still can’t do more than whisper. If it’s not improving by Monday, I may have to go see the doctor. My throat doesn’t hurt; I just can’t talk.

Katherine T. Avatar

Rachel, sorry to hear you are still sick, ugh, stomach bugs are no fun. I like how every room of your house has a different theme! I was planning to go on MAC’s website to get Finally Free, everyone’s being raving about So Select, and still mulling over Halsey …..

Rachel R. Avatar

Thanks, Katherine! This bug just won’t go away! I’d honestly rather be puking my guts out for a couple day and have the flu over with, instead of this thing that just keep going for weeks.

I think you’ll love Finally Free and So Select! MAC CS got back to me, and they’re going to send me a new Halsey with free upgraded shipping. I’m really impressed they’d do that, and that they responded so quickly.

Haul: Kat Von D liquid lipstick in Bow n Arrow, Burberry Full Kisses lipstick in Rosehip, Tom Ford Black Orchid, Dior Cleansing water, and the Beautyblender brush cleanser
Weekend plans: dinner with a friend, family party tomorrow, and spring cleaning
Decor Style? lots of bookshelves and decorative books, mint green and lavender accents, NYC themed decor as well

Stephanie Avatar

Haul: I was going to be good, BUT…I bought Tarte Rainforest of the Sea foundation and the UD Firebird Gwen Stefani lipstick from Sephora. Love them both, and I actually did a decent job of choosing the shade I needed online, sight unseen, based on my prior knowledge of Tarte’s shade range.

That would have been fine, but Ulta picked this week to do a 5x points on UD offer for Platinum members. So, I ended up with Rapture blush (which I’ve been wanting anyway), one of their newer foundation shades that looks like it will work well for me, matte lipstick in 1993, the pencil sharpener (since we all know how hard it is to sharpen UD pencils with anything else)…and about 3 NYX matte lip creams.

Oh yeah, and I ended up getting the Too Faced Sweet Peach palette, which I wasn’t even going to buy because the shades I like best didn’t swatch well. But I’m glad I did…just about all the shades seem to work fine for me on primer, they blend easily, and even most of the shades that didn’t swatch well (even Delectable, the burgundy/purple shade at the end of the 2nd row) were buildable when I tried them on my eyes.

This no-buy is looking increasingly like a no-go.

Weekend plans: Chilling with the kids, grocery shopping, doing laundry.

I’ll also be handling some cell phone related issues…my phone, itself a warranty replacement, died after 4 months. ? I tried paying full price for a current generation phone, which refuses to connect to wifi at many places I frequent, including the gym (a dealbreaker for me). So, back to Verizon it goes.

Decor style: Nonexistent. I have neither the knack nor the money to get it together in that area!

Lisa Avatar

Haul: I took advantage of the 15% off sale and bought some things I’ve been wanting to try: Snapdragon blush, Becca Opal pressed highlighter, Laura Mercier Matte Radiance in Highlight 01, and Buxom waterproof mascara (favorite mascara!) plus the Marc Jacobs birthday gift. I’m not sure how I feel about the new products yet. I just received them today and so far have only swatches them. We’ll see.

Weekend plans: Relaxing!

Decor style: I love mid-century modern, but also kind of have an eclectic style. I love buying tchotchkes and furniture that are vintage and/or fun. As for colors, I like neutrals mixed with pops of color and jewel tones. Right now my bedroom is actually teal with dark brown vintage furniture.

Lisa Avatar

Just realized the typos! Oops. I meant to say Becca Snapdragon blush and that so far I’ve only swatched the new products. Sigh. It’s been a long busy week.

Haul: I ordered from Muse Beauty the Viseart Theory Minx palette and 02 Ribbons Boheme!! Can’t wait for them to arrive. Sephora VIB :picked up Bite Amuse lipstick in Sweet Cream , used my points to get a sample sized Bite Amuse Radish lipstick, Clarisonic brush head replacements , Sephora eye makeup remover and a small sized Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara. I don’t need more mascara but I wanted to try this one.

Weekend plans: Housework, repot some of my plants , dinner out somewhere

What’s your decor style?: A interior decorator once said I have a Pottery Barn / Ethan Allen style decorated house. Warm woods and leathers, off white kitchen with granite counters , open airy and comfortable!

He’s def not a ‘fox red’ lab. Those are gorgeous; the ones I have seen are big blockheads. I mean that literally, not referring to behavior. Wish I had remembered to put in a link. Saw about 4 in the space of 2 weeks, then never spied another one. Dog color variations are very interesting, as is how colorations go in and out of favor/style. Think how popular the redder goldens are these days, as opposed to the cream leaning ones. Now, the red goldens are blockheads in the goofy sense. Real comedians.

Anne Avatar

Haul: Nest Bamboo diffuser, Sephora play subscription (we’ll see how that one goes)

Weekend plans: Binge watch the new Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt season on Netflix.

What’s your decor style?: I have a more concrete “architectural” style, and a more flexible interior decor style. Architecturally, I like a weird mix of California Craftsman and traditional Japanese rural housing style, which I’ve been seeing more and more and I dub “neo-California Craftsman”. That newer style tends to involve traditional elements of California Craftsman such as built-in shelving and exposed beams, but has higher walls and much bigger windows, plus skylights to bring in natural light. Bringing in traditional Japanese architectural styles, it tends to use more bamboo and some Japanese maple for flooring, and also has more of the open floor plan that comes with older Japanese homes, and incorporates modernized versions of the sliding doors, just with glass instead of paper.

Interior-wise, I prefer minimalist but not “modernist” designs as they’re easy to clean but don’t seem “cold”. I like adding touches of nature, like house plants and driftwood, as well as Japanese Noren in doorways for privacy, light-colored wood frames for pictures, along with area rugs that look more traditional, and definitely prefer wood floors if I can have them.

Anne Avatar

The diffuser is really nice! I smelled the candle version of the scent a while back and liked it- not too strong, not overly floral or citrusy but a light scent still. It’s perfect for my bathroom counter. I also like the design of the bottle.

Yeah, I had a thing for architectural design while I was working at a library during high school, so I read my way through their books and magazines on it, and it was a style just coming into “vogue” then so it didn’t yet have a name. I think the interior style of “mid-century modern” goes well with houses that are designed in the mixture of styles I’m thinking of.

Haul: Milani lipstick in Cinnamon Spice (fabulous) and Candied Toffee, Maybelline Colour Sensational lipstick in In Style Sienna, Rimmel 25 hour (extravagant claim I know) foundation with serum in light porcelain – so far, so good because I wanted a little more coverage and longevity out of my foundation and I like the Rimmel range.

Weekend plans: the usual housework and I am going to a great farmer’s market in the Yarra Valley. It has lots of fresh produce (fruit and veg), plus a wide range of cheeses, breads, pastas, olive oils and chutneys. Just love Farmer’s Markets myself.

Decorating style: uncluttered, warm palette with pops of colour.

Ahh… the forehead wrinkle. I know it well! Our chiweenie “thinks” a lot. Mostly about food! =)

Haul: YSL BLUSH VOLUPTÈ Heart Of Light Powder Blush Light in 03, Shiseido Bio-Performance Glow Revival Cream and Benefiance WrinkleResist24 Intensive Eye Cream, MUFE concealers, NARS Dual-Intensity Blush in Adoration, a SEPHORA COLLECTION Pro Crease Brush, another Marc Jacobs foundation brush, the Tocca Giulietta Nourishing Body Scrub, the Viseart Theory Palette in Theory II Minx, and the Hourglass Illusion Hyaluronic Skin Tint (which is being returned).

Weekend plans: I just had another round of injections in my back today, and the stand-up routine I did before and after the procedure was exhausting, so I’ll just be taking it easy this weekend. =)

What’s your decor style?: I’d say my favorites are Indian, Moroccan, and Arabian design. If you look at examples of the three, you’ll see the similarities. Rich, vibrant color, embellished fabrics, dark, ornate wood… I love the opulence and the contrast. But I also love the elegance and grace of Tuscan decor. I love so many distinct design elements that I use different themes for each room. =)

Mostly nothing exciting for me, some much needed Mineral Veil Primer from Hourglass and three foundations and the chromatic mix in yellow from MUFE, a backup of NARS Laguna/Orgasm mini, a NARS Creamy Concealer to try out, two minis of the Hourglass Opaque Liquid Lipsticks that I’ve wanted to try for a while, and a mini Coconut Water Cheek Gelee from Josie Maran that I’ve had my eyes on for YEARS, and the hair oil from VERB. I also tried the Benefit Gimme Brow and loved that as well, and ended up buying that with my 20% off from ULTA. Hopefully this is the last haul for a while, lol.
