Formula X Infamous Nail Lacquer Review, Photos, Swatches

Formula X Infamous Nail Lacquer

Formula X Infamous Nail Lacquer ($12.50 for 0.40 fl. oz.) is described as a “teal and purple metallic.” It’s a steely gray that leans slightly teal along the edges and shifts to a muted violet. It has more of a metallic shimmer running through it. MAC Submerged (LE, $16.00) is much bluer. KBShimmer Rollin’ with the Chromies (LE, $8.75) is more shimmery. Color Club Portfolio (P) is purpler. Deborah Lippmann Wicked Game (LE, $19.00) is much lighter. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

In the bottle, I thought it might be a possible dupe (or at least, similar to!) for Chanel Sweet Star, but it’s not (way, way darker). The duochrome is strong and noticeable, which is always a treat, though there are some visible brush strokes from the more metallic shimmer/finish. It dried down to a naturally high-shine finish, so it doesn’t need a top coat to shine. It was mostly opaque after two coats, but there was a hint of the nail line coming through depending on the type of lighting/angle of my nails.

I love duochrome polishes. My all time favorite is Chanel Peridot, though actually, that is probably considered a multi-chrome.

I popped into a Big Lots the other day (I go in there about three times a year, since it’s kind of fun because you never know what treats you might find), and they had several different Formula X polishes for around $2. I picked up a pretty red microglitter called Power Hungry and put it over my (then) mani of Zoya Raven (black) as a base coat, topped with Zoya Isa (a darkish, shimmery red) to get a beautiful dark, blackened red shade that I thought Isla was going to be by itself. PH kicked it up a notch with glittery goodness that wasn’t too OTT (over the top). Good for an accent nail too.
